The Top 5 Rock Concerts of all time
Selecting the “top” rock concerts of all time is inherently subjective, as different people have different criteria for what makes a concert “great.” Some might prioritize attendance numbers, others might focus on the historical significance, and still others might look at the quality of the performance itself. That said, based on a combination of attendance, cultural impact, performance…

16 April 1978 - Queen performed @ Vorst Nationaal (Forest National), Brussels, Belgium 🇧🇪
‘News Of The World’ Tour
At the beginning of the concert, the crown tilted off to one side, as seen in the last picture. The crown was raised on a four-switch system and two of the switches didn't work. The band left the stage, the crew started the process over, and the show went on as normal. In 2012, Brian May recalled the night:
"We had, at the time, this huge lighting rig in the shape of a crown, because we were Queen, right? At the beginning of the show it was down on the deck. It's down on the stage as a sort of introduction to the show. We played with a sort of intro tape or whatever, and lots of smoke came out and it lifted off like a rocket from the stage. At this point we're underneath it because we're getting ready to play. It's powered by these chain hoist things; it's not actually rocket powered, you know. So on this particular occasion they wired up the chain hoists wrong, and I was on the side that went down and I was like, 'Oh, fuck! Let's get out of here real quick.' Looking back on it, it was amusing, but at the time it was a little scary. It's a definite Spinal Tap moment."
In 2001 he likened its obtuse angle to being like the sinking Titanic, and how they (and the road crew) had to leave the stage. "We went, 'do we preserve our dignity or our lives here?' It turned out to be one of those things, as often happens, which was special and very nice, because when we eventually get back on and do it properly there was this great bond between us and the audience, because they realized that we're human and stuff can go wrong. It was one of the greater nights that I remember. It was a really good night."

Here’s a fabulous fan story:
“I attended the Queen concert in Brussels, Belgium on 16. April 1978 (or 17. April but I think it was the 16th).
I can not explain it very well (my English is not that good) but when the concert started there was a big problem with the crown that was going up. The right side was going up but the left side of the big crown stayed down. The band members were a bit confused and it was clearly they were afraid the the crown was coming (falling) down again so they were not standing under the crown while they were performing the fast version of We Will Rock You. Also the public was a bit confused. Every one saw this was not an normal situation.
After playing the fast version of We Will Rock You Freddie excused himself for the technical problems and he promised to set this right by playing an extra long concert. Which they did!
During the second song of the concert the crown came down again and was immediatly lifted up again and now everthing worked out well and safely! I can remember while I was sitting in my classroom at the Sint Norbertus School in Antwerp a couple of days before the concert that a huge robot which is on the News of the World sleeve came by. The robot was towed by a truck and it was VERY impressive to see. Every one at school talked about that robot.
The two Queen shows in Brussels were sold out immediately and a 3rd show was added a couple of days later. I was at all 3 shows.” 🤩

Gallery update 1 September 1984, Queen performed their second evening @ The Birmingham National Arena, Birmingham, UK  “The Works” TourFreddie's vocal introduction to ‘Somebody To Love’ is very beautifully drawn out. He then says, "f***ing let's do it", and jumps into the infamous piano theme of the song. During the improv section of ‘Keep Yourself Alive’ after the first chorus, Brian plays part of the solo from ‘Dead On Time’ off the Jazz album. On many nights of this tour, Freddie mentions the rumours of Queen splitting up which have come to light because it's a known fact by now that he has been working on a solo album. Tonight after ‘It's A Hard Life,’ he says the journalists can f**k off, and adds, "as long as you want us to be on this stage, we'll come back." It is no coincidence that he makes this speech before introducing the next song, ‘Staying Power.’ Originally a song about relationships, Staying Power is given a somewhat new meaning on this tour amidst all the band breakup rumours. Before ‘Is This The World We Created,’ Brian tells everyone that they're much better than last night's audience (they really are an enthusiastic bunch, as is clearly heard on the recording).
He then tells a little story about his new guitar, the solid-body Gibson Chet Atkins classical electric: "Roger is a collector of guitars, and in his travels around the world he found this little job, which is very strange as it hasn't got strings [nylon, as opposed to steel]. So it sounds like a spanish guitar, and we use it for this particular song. So if you listen to this, you'll get a chance to sing after this, alright?" After the masses sing ‘Love Of My Life,’ Freddie tells them, "What a superb bunch you are." Brian's solo is significantly shorter tonight, perhaps due to a review stating how last night's only low point was how the guitar workout was a bit long. The end section of ‘Brighton Rock’ follows, and then Freddie introduces the next song. "Ok, we're gonna do something that Brian's written. This is gonna be our new.. our next single release. Thank you for buying all the other ones, by the way. If you buggers don't buy 'em, we won't be here! Enough of this crap. This is called ‘Hammer To Fall!”As soon as the audience sees Freddie with his Telecaster on they begin to sing the chorus of ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love.’ He urges them to "get it a bit faster" and then he begins the song. Although 1984 presented the more ambitious choice of songs, Queen took much less time settling comfortably into a setlist than they had done on their previous world tour. There would only be a couple more minor changes throughout the month. QueenLive

I came across this bit of observation on queenlive about the June 12, 1986 show in Leiden & just love it: "Big Spender is performed tonight for the first time since 1979. [...] He notably sings 'man of distinction,' whereas in earlier years he purposely slurred the word 'woman' so as to remain ambiguous in his sexuality." <3 He used to slur it so much that I wondered if he said 'one of distinction' to be completely neutral!
Oh my gosh I noticed this too!! He slurred that word so much that I also thought it was “one…” Clever boy and something about him saying man so openly makes me so full of pride for him! Ahhh yes! Own it baby! Own your beautiful gay self! 🥰

26 March 1976, Queen performed @ Fukuoka-shi Kyuden Kinen Taiikukan in Fukuoka, Japan
“A Night At The Opera” Tour
Queen performed two shows tonight!
The afternoon show started at 2 pm, and the evening show at 6:30 pm.
Since the shows were about two hours long, there wasn’t a lot of rest between shows. Two shows in one day was common in the world of Japanese pop music, but was highly unusual for rock acts. It’s clear that Queen was seen as pop idol acts by the music promoters at the time.
It's a pretty rough night for Freddie, as the two-show day leaves his voice sounding pretty strained.
Freddie speaks to the audience in Japanese after Sweet Lady, a moment which always receives a cheer wherever they play in the country. He says to himself, "Ah, I love how that works."
After Stone Cold Crazy, he says, "Ahh, they're all sitting down. They must know what's coming next." He drinks his usual champagne toast to the audience with "Kampai!" which is cheers in Japanese. He adds, "That's the one that gets them every time."
Freddie’s throat was in pretty bad shape after the second show, they considered cancelling the upcoming Osaka show.
They didn’t want to disappoint their fans so they went ahead with their itinerary 💛👑
