Birth of a Fox Plush!
Watch one of my plush grow from uncut fabric to final photos.
Video description: stop-motion animation of a fox plush being made. 101 pieces from 19 different fabrics (17 faux furs and 2 vinyl) went until this fox. It took me twenty-some hours to complete over a month's time, possibly longer to account for all the camera angle fiddling.
This was my first stop-motion video so I definitely learned some things! This is my usual order of assembly for plush, though not every step was captured, in part because I wasn't sure how to do so or it would have been awkward. For example you can see I redid the neck, but didn't show the replacement of the piece between the shoulders. But I hope to try this again and get even more of the process!

Hello!
With the implosion of other social media sites recently, I thought I'd establish a presence here and try this place out. If we've met on other sites, hello again! If you're new to my work, allow me to give a quick intro.
I specialize in realistic, floppy, poseable plush made with faux fur fabrics. I've been making plush since childhood, but I've been working with faux fur since 2014. My favorites to make are canines, felines, and mustelids, but I make all sorts of wildlife.
I'm an animal nerd and love to create true-to-life, life-size replicas of real species and natural color variations, but I do stray from realism from time to time! I really love fantasy as well. My plush-making journey started out with dragons after all, and someday I'll get back into making them.

Like the corn she's named after, Maizel the cross fox is a symbol of fall. Handmade with faux fur and airbrushed with acrylic paints, she's life-size, weighted and floppy.
She's not up for adoption but she'll be coming with me to an upcoming renaissance faire, so if you see her come say hi!

"What color fox plush do you want for Christmas?" I ask my brother.
"This one." He shows me a photo of a cross fox dubbed "Mat" taken (and enhanced) by the photographer Sam Gaby (Keen.Feed on Insta).
"That one! It's beautiful but real foxes aren't that saturated. Do you still want the vibrant oranges?"
"Yes."
He hasn't seen the finished fox, and won't until Christmas. I think he'll like it.
Made with faux fur fabrics (not real fur) and touched up with acrylic paint. He's life-size (on the large side) with measurements taken from fox population studies. I have process pics and a video of his process on my blog.

It did a snow here, so I did an outside.
I've been doing a major rehaul of my art room lately, so I haven't been able to do any plush work. I'm excited to show it once I'm done though!

I'm also finishing a wolf I started last year, and I'm designing 3 new patterns: chonky arctic fox, maned wolf (not life-sized), and a dhole. (I mostly work in life-size unless stated.)

Meet Lumi, a little black fox plush with luminous rainbow eyes.
He's made with synthetic faux fur, vinyl, grief and love. Almost three pounds in weight (1.3 kg) and 40" (103 cm) including tail, he sits comfortably in my lap curled up. With no armature, he's completely floppy and his weight helps him hold his poses--though he can't hold his head up well on his own, thus the dowels in the photos.
Lumi has his own lore and meaning, which I'll share in a later post. Also as quite a personal piece, he will not be for sale.

Art improvement check!
I always love seeing art improvement comparisons, so here's 8 years of improvements on my red foxes. Also a bit of history of my plush journey for those of you new to my work.
2014
I wanted a life-size realistic fox plush and couldn't find any to buy (or that I could afford), so I made my own. This is my second fox, made for my little sister. She named him Red-Tail.
2018
I wanted a life-size, fully poseable, floppy plush, and I'm still pretty happy with this pattern, all things considered. Ginny here is a personal fox and of the 14 of these I made, she is still one of my favorites.
My issues with this pattern really came down to the minky face being difficult to keep from wrinkling, and I wanted to improve the face in general. (I also had a couple people start copying this design piece-by-piece so I lost interest in it.) But I might revisit the body pattern someday but with the new heads.
2022
I'm still adjusting this pattern, but I love it so far. I moved away from minky fabric to beaver faux fur for the face. The body has more definition, with more proportional legs. Later editions have more proportional ears and I'm working on neck size and chest width. As prototype, he joined my personal collection and is named Vincent.
If you don't like where you are with your art or hobby right now, I encourage you to keep working at your craft! You may not see improvement day to day, but months or years you'll look back and realize how far you've come.
And for those of you who are going to go "but wait the first fox is already good!" let me show you my first plush.

Hello!
Time for a new updated post! I'm an artist and post my work fairly often, but also reblog a bunch of other stuff I find interesting. Plushies, art, animals and fantasy, botany and ecology, etc.
For info and examples of my art, please see below!
As an artist I specialize in sculpture and textile art, specifically realistic, floppy, poseable soft sculptures (plush) made with faux fur fabrics. I love to create life-size replicas of real species and natural color variations, but I enjoy fantasy as well. Because my passion lies outside of mundane life, I do not make domestic animals. (No pet portraits, sorry!) I also have a full-time job outside my art which pays the bills, which means my art output is relatively low right now.

Availability:
Sales: I am not selling at this time, but I plan to in the future! I will post announcements and shop links before any openings or shop drops. I'm looking optimistically at later in 2023.
Commissions: Currently closed. Please check out my Future Commissions post for what to expect when I open.
Prices: I don't have prices available at this time, but this post may give you a general idea.
Shipping: It kills me, but I can only ship within the US currently. I'm not set up for international sales and don't sell often enough to register with foreign countries. There may be some countries I can ship to, but no promises. (UK and EU generally off the table due to their VAT laws.)
Patterns: I do not sell my patterns.
Info
I do not use real fur.
My pieces are not toys. They are art pieces and are not for children. While I use durable thread and attach all parts as securely as I can, in the end they are still handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces that have not received safety testing since they are intended for display or gentle handling. I'm always improving my methods, but I recommend care for longest lasting enjoyment.
Surface wash only. Some parts are densely stuffed and may not dry quickly if waterlogged. Painted details are permanent but may fade with rough washing.
Allergy Warning: I have 3 cats. Due to the setup of my home, I cannot prevent allergens from entering the studio.

Winter is here! We got our first good snow, so I took this cherry floof out for pictures. She seemed to love it!
Note: this fox is not real, nor made with real parts. It is a plushie I designed and made with faux fur fabrics.
She wants all your treats. Don't feed wild foxes! Give them all to her instead.
I always love how chonky foxes look in the winter and absolutely had to recreate that in a huggable form!

I've made two species in plush form so far, American martens and mink (the ranched kind so I can do lots of colors). All made with faux (fake) fur fabrics and vinyl.
Three colors of American martens: dark summer coat, cinnamon winter coat and caramel winter coat.
And two mink so far, though I plan to make more colors. A black cross and a white.
Martens are a favorite of mine so expect to see more species of those! As well as other mustelids.

Wolves!
Since I'm thinking about wolves... here some of my favorite outdoor photos of the wolves I've made.
None are for sale except the work-in-progress at the end, which will be going into my shop once I resume selling.
Akeila (the neutral colored wolf, top 3 images) is my personal wolf so she has lots of photos in general. I'd also be amiss not to show how her footprints look in the snow:
I took a long break in making wolves because those paw pads are sewn individually by hand and take 10+ hrs per wolf to finish. Very tedious. But I've finally finished the paws to this guy below so I'll finish him soon! He'll be available once I resume selling.
People have been calling him the Cookie n' Cream wolf which I think is adorable.
