Psycho Series: The Show of the Year
While the Psycho Series did not officially win the Streamy Award for best show of the year, it has no doubt changed the entire game of YouTube and film production.
The Psycho Series is a 3 year long YouTube series which featured Jesse Ridgeway, the protagonist, as a young boy trying to make a living off of gaming and YouTube videos. In the series, Psycho Dad, the antagonist is depicted as a father who doesn’t believe that gaming or YouTube is a “real” job and as a response to his son’s gaming addiction, he smashes Jesse’s things.
The series goes on for three full years depicting every step of Jesse’s story without telling the audience, aka the Juggies, that the videos were actually fake. While some of them knew the series was fake, most of the Juggies believed the Psycho series was real or at least COULD have been real.
The Psycho series is, without a doubt, like no other YouTube series out there. The series has well developed characters, well developed plots, and is able to connect to the audience in a way that no other series can do. Each element of the series has something that is relatable to everyone.
For example, there are many children who are unfortunately raised in a household that is not the most ideal, and some even live in houses that are worse than Jesse’s. Many parents have a hard time considering YouTube or playing video games a “real” job as most parents were raised in a manual labor based society where the only thing considered a “real” job was cutting wood and doing chores just like Jeff Ridgeway.
The Psycho series successfully portrays every element of life that a kid or parent may struggle through: abuse, disagreements, college, getting a job, moving out, paying bills, struggling through depression, mental disorders, privacy invasion, creating a movie, living up to contracts, business, Hollywood, anger management, love, and many more elements that would make this list endless.
McJuggernuggets, the director of the series, released two episodes a day and never failed to entertain his fans. While most TV shows released once a week with breaks in between, McJuggernuggets was able to successfully release his episodes to the Psycho Series more than daily.
McJuggernuggets clearly spent hard work and money putting together a series to entertain his fans, and it worked. Millions of fans around the world stopped by his channel to check out his next episode just to see what would happen next or to see what Psycho Dad would break next.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not discrediting Phillip De Franco’s hard work at all. I understand that he also spent a lot of hard work on his own series, and I’m sure it was entertaining to those who chose to watch his series, but the Psycho Series was not just entertaining, it was real.
No, not literally real, I know it was fake, but Jesse himself has said that it felt real to him even though it wasn’t, and many of the audience thought it felt real despite it being called fake.
In the end, McJuggernuggets was robbed of his deserved award because the winner was most likely already determined before the votings even occurred. Most award shows like the Streamys Awards or Teen Choice Awards are rigged so that the winner is already chosen, and it is most likely something that is realistic because the nominee has a lot of publicity or makes a lot of money.
The other nominees are simply there to make the audience feel they have a choice and then be compelled to watch to see the result and if their choice had won. Of course, their choice would only win if it was the predetermined winner.
It’s sad to see that a majority of award shows are rigged, but in the end the FANS choose the who they believe won their hearts, and a majority of those fans chose Jesse Ridgeway or McJuggernuggets because the Psycho series had won their hearts, and they wouldn’t allow it to die in vain.
The Psycho Series is the real best show of the year, and it doesn’t need a metal statue to prove that because it is shown through the Juggies and the Psycho Family.
