every now and then i remember the time a few years ago, when sdmi fandom first had its revival thanks to netflix, when a wildly popular sdmi blog run by an anti said the words 'perfectly good Black woman' in reference to why you should ship [man you could easily read as white, whose arc she was fridged for] with her instead of [hatesink character whose race is ambiguous due to being a furry, but has a BLISTERINGLY antiblack narrative under a thin layer of fantasy racism, with a fun side of homophobia and holocaust denial the latter of which is directly invoked in the post], which got hundreds of notes, and i grimace my face through the back of my head all over again lmao

Ok so here’s another au idea. Jones shoots down the fucking parrot (even though he thinks it’s some kind of a poltergeist. so what) with his rifle instead of running away from the house in A Haunting in Crystal Cove episode. Just kidding.. unless ??

Favorite Cartoon Series Villains
Tumblr media
Slade Wilson - While I love Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke the Terminator in most of his incarnations, the one from the 2003 Teen Titans animated series will always be my most beloved. Voiced to chilling perfection by Ron Perlman, this Slade Wilson is implicitly the same soldier turned mercenary we all know, except that he finally got fed up with being smarter, stronger and all around better than the powerful people who hire him and has decided that he should be the one in charge of his own empire. To that end, he has become a criminal mastermind bent on conquering cities and finding an apprentice to carry his empire forward long after he's dead. Slade is cold, ruthless, underhanded, manipulative, predatory, and just all-around evil. Having dispensed with any notion of a "code of honor" that has traditionally been Slade's excuse to justify his actions, there is nothing this madman won't do to make his megalomanic dreams a reality. In terms of sheer supervillainy, there's just no topping him.

Professor Pericles - Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated is an outstanding animated series for many reasons. One of them is how many truly, viciously evil villains it has, and none are more evil that Scooby's predecessor in Mystery Inc., Professor Pericles. A parrot that is equal parts super genius and super sociopath, Pericles is like Hannibal Lecter crossed with Yami Bakura: gleefully in tune with the spirit of a demon and ready with all kinds of schemes and manipulations to bring him closer to his goal of setting that demon free so that he can obtain ultimate power. He's even willing to kill people....and he actually does, several times! How genuinely malicious and scary they made this cartoon parrot is truly something to behold.

There is something so poetic and wretched at the same times in this scene. It's nearly painful

Professor Pericles isn’t in the Sitting Room.
Just a liiiittle something I noticed that I would like to point out and discuss.
Tumblr media
His “better half” wasn’t shown to be trapped there with the others. So did he never separate from his? Or did he never have one at all?
Tumblr media
Makes you wonder just how affected Professor Pericles was by the curse, because also consider:
He recounts hearing the “soothing” screams of Krampus’ victims as a hatchling in his homeland of Germany. (The gif above is him talking about it) Which would have been before he had ever set a talon in Crystal Cove. Soooo…
Was he really corrupted by the curse like everyone else? Or was he a manipulative red flag waving psychopath at birth? And if that’s the case, then what does that say about the reset timeline? Is he reeeeally as innocent as he appears as Creationex Corp’s mascot? Or is he still a wolf in sheep’s clothing?
Tumblr media
Just saying. This makes for EXCELLENT fanfic material. 👀
(Also PLEASE comment and reblog with your own thoughts! I want to talk about this because it gave me an idea for another fic!)

Thoughts after watching Scooby-Doo: Mystery Inc
Of course the Velma show drew me to fully watch Mystery Inc after all these years of having only seen the filler episodes
| Spoilers for most of the show |
1. I love Professor Pericles, he’s the polar opposite of Scooby and really comes off as a threat. He’s dark, ruthless and powerful, a perfect villain for the series. And his end was perfect: he was so hungry for power it literally consumed him
2. The ‘’Shaggy x Velma’’ plotline was unnecessary. If you take it out it wouldn’t make a big difference. Really all it does is put them both in a bad light for a good part of Season 1
3. Fred and Daphne are very nice together and I really like them both, but for the first season I feel like Daphne’s whole personality revolves around him. They do fix that a bit in Season 2 but I still feel like we miss out a lot from her lack of character in Season 1.
4. I overall consider Season 2 a lot better then Season 1, not only because of how Nibiru gets closer but also because all the characters feel more like themselves.
5. Cassidy and Hot Dog Water are among my favourite characters from this series. It really felt earth shattering when they died in the destroyed timeline.
6. Also holy shit they really managed to have characters get consumed by an eldritch being, drowned, mauled to death by a bird and executed by firing squad in a Scooby-Doo show
7. I also love the idea of multiple groups of mystery solvers, I would genuinely enjoy seeing a movie or anything starring the Benevolent Lodge of Mystery
8. Lastly, as a Jojo fan, I can’t help but think that the ending is eerily similar to the ending of Stone Ocean. I will certainly research this more, but I’m just saying, the Stone Ocean manga finished in 2003, Mystery Inc premiered in 2010..just saying

Yes I know I asked this a while back, I’m asking again because I’m curious.
(By original I mean the mystery incorporated before the current ones, not original characters to the show.)

having a lot of thoughts as usual about sdmi and its portrayal of the cycle of abuse, and how pericles, cassidy, and ricky's foils and parallels to each other there are all both fascinating and deeply tragic.
in particular today i'm thinking about how ricky is an abusive mentor toward marcie, and tries to be abusive toward velma and fails because she has a support system and hasn't been worn down yet, and velma being an example and continuing to extend marcie support and a hand out of her situation is what gives marcie the courage to leave even when it's dangerous to do so, and how pericles spends the series--present day and past--systematically isolating ricky and dismantling his support system one by one, and how everything cassidy stood for was refusing to continue the cycle with everything she had, and how she felt so so guilty and violated and betrayed when ricky manipulated her into it anyway, and how she was willing to die to make it right, and how marcie standing up to him to great effect with her new support system leaves him utterly stunned, and how after that he starts trying to stand up for himself against his abusive mentor and break the cycle, and how he tries to take up cassidy's convictions as his weapon to do it with because cassidy was crushed under the wheels of the cycle but marcie proved it was possible to break,
and how he couldn't do that with his own abuser because pericles has spent his life building a steel cage around him, and tightening and tightening and tightening it without him even realizing it until it was too late, and how fucking devastated he is when it's finally demonstrated him that the door to the cage is closed for good,
and how when he is made complicit in his abuser reaching through the generations to make sure cassidy died for nothing, and that this little girl who gave him hope by defeating his attempt to continue the cycle couldn't escape him after all, it breaks him.
fucking kill me, man. god.
