Watching IchiHimes really put all the blame on Pierrot for people not liking the ship is another level comedy.
Check the manga, there really isn't much content. Why is this so hard to admit that their whole dynamic was dominated by Orihime's one-sided feelings that low-key bordered obsession?
Then check IchiRuki dynamic and their endless stares full of admiration and respect for each other. I have no idea why Kubo had the need to draw them with starry eyes every time they saw each other. He did, he still made Ichihime canon. That still doesn't take away the great build-up IR had and doesn't make IH a likeable ship.

I've always loved the Ichiruki dynamic and I loved that no other shonen had this kind of bond between two protoganists. That's what made Bleach stand out to me. Rukia was always the one getting our hero out of the misery, without forcing romance or unnecessary sexual jokes into it. Ichiruki will always have my heart. Please don't misunderstand: I love the end pairings!

Someone pointed out that Rukia is basically the "shonen male best friend whose relationship with the protagonist comes off as very gay" and, like, yeah. Also, that means that if she was a man, the entire fandom would ship them and hate on Orihine for "getting in the way of the ship"

For me, one the most telling, extra-textual arguments that ichiruki was initially the planned pairing, is the fact that other official content creators, not fans on the internet mind you, put professionals in their fields, treated it like it was a foregone conclusion. See the first arcs of the anime, the musical AND the live movie adaptation.

This is gonna sound like a hot take, but the shipping wars were never THAT serious in Bleach fandom during the manga's ongoing status.
It wasn't serious simply because the IR far outnumbered IH and dominated the conversations online. IR was HUGE and by that I mean more than half of Bleach readers both in Japan and internationally shipped them, there was never room for big fights, because the conversation was too in favor of IRs. Even Ulquihime had more following at some point, than IH.
It is only now that many IR shippers left after the ending and some new shippers joined IH just because it's canon that people like to twist the narrative.
It was never that serious.
I said what I said.
Stop villainizing IR, move on.

Y'know it's kinda revigorating to see that even seven years after the ending, that Ichiruki fans are still thriving and remain prominent in the Bleach fandom when it comes to presence and especially fan content. In spite of the harassment and revisionist propaganda that IH shippers have used to to discourage our voices, or the mental gymnastics that they continue to engage in to legitimize their hollow ship, we still come out on top. Even the TYBW anime hasn't done them any favors in that area since people are still praising Ichiruki over Ichihime.
Sorry that I saw this too late but you’re absolutely right!
We still thrive in spite of everything that’s happened and I love how talented our artists and authors are 💕
I still love the ichiruki fandom even when I don’t enjoy the Bleach fandom
I also want to say that I still do love Bleach as a series even when there are things I didn’t love about the last arc, ships aside. It was a series that was with me through my tough teen years and even through the pandemic, when I was stuck at home. Rukia is still my favorite character ever and she still gives me such hope. I still relate to Ichigo Kurosaki to this day (how come we majored in the same thing?)

People in Bleach fandom talk about how IR are delusional, crazy, aren't real Bleach fans, disrespect Kubo's decision of making I//H and are terrible for not accepting canon, without counting all the 358752175 excuses of why they can't be together.
All that rethoric make me think if IR was canon, would they react in the same way to defend this ship? Would they hunt every person which didn't ship the canon couple to tell how stupid they are? Would they respect Kubo's decision? Would they call everyone who didn't see it delusional? Considering how this fandom react to IR as a fanon ship, we already have the answer...
