The twelve Sun-gods (12 Adityas) and their associates

The twelve Adityas are nothing but different forms of the Sun-God Surya. In different Puranas their names are given differently. Brahma once recounted to the sages the one hundred and eight sacred names of Surya. The Brahma Purana lists these names and we reproduce them in nine groups of twelve names each.

(1) Surya, Archana, Bhagavana, Tvashta, Pusha, Arka, Savita, Ravi, Gabhastimana, Aja, Kala, Mrityu.

(2) Dhata, Prabhakara, Prithivi, Jala, Teja, Akasha, Vayu, Parayana, Soma, Brihaspati, Shukra, Budha.

(3) Angaraka, Indra, Vivasvana, Diptamshu, Shuchi, Shouri,Shanaishvara, Brahma, Vishu, Rudra, Skanda, Vaishravana.

Idk if I am reading too much into it but I love how weird Agni and Vayu look, even compared to other Atma avatars. Varna, Prithivi, Dyaus look fairly close to human with extra teeth, Indra just looks cool, but I feel like Agni is fairly monstrous, and Vayu is just bizarre.

For Agni, I think what gives me that vibe is the weird hunched up posture and the double-head action. The former in particular really gives the vibe of a prowling predator, and his physical move animations have him jumping around very suddenly like he's pouncing on prey. @goatwithaplan also mentioned in a post that the 2 mouths are probably representative of how willing he is to abide by the new laws of the Junkyard; my guy needs two mouths cause he do be eating a lot. It's really cool; I think "this guy is kind of violent and means trouble" is clearly communicated through Agni's design

The clearest inhuman thing about Vayu is the insect-like elements of its design, like the elytra. The Atma avatars that are clearly animal inspired draw primarily from mammals, since we have an easier time projecting humanity onto them; Cerberus and Hayagriva, for instance. Insects, by contrast, are harder to project onto; we're used to thinking of eusocial insects which have little or no individuality to speak of. It fits well for early DDS1 Gale, who is preoccupied solely with the Embryon's success and relatively little for his comrades ("Bat would make a better ally than Cielo"). This is totally vibes based, but Vayu always makes me think of a praying mantis.

Vayu's split head and idle animations also contribute to that alien vibe. The former is, again, clearly inhuman; all the other Atma avatars have recognisable head shapes and mouths. And unlike the subdued idle animations of other demons, he does that very noticeable side-to-side jerking motion over and over again, like he can't quite find his balance, or as if his body was constantly jolted by an electric current. It's weird!!

Those things play in the general autistic pattern I've mentioned in the past for Gale. Autistic people often relate with robot characters because they struggle with social cues and emotion, and because they are othered and isolated from their peers due to their nature. Those aspects of Gale's character translate into his Atma being bizarre, inhuman, and othered even when compared to the rest of the monstrous cast

(also the side to side swaying reminds me of physical tics)

I have fewer opinions on villain atma avatars. Rahu is very weird, but Mick is not really much of a character, so I don't want to read too much into it. Ravana is also very weird, in much the same "clearly alien" way that Vayu is, but I'm not totally sure what it's meant to convey about Beck. Opinions welcome :)

This piece was used for the cover of one of several Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner books, titled 'Digital Devil Saga: Official Final Guide'. It prominently features Cielo and his Avatar, Dyaus.

While the official title to this piece is still unknown, it’s likely something simple like ‘Cielo’ or ‘Cielo and Dyaus’. Similar pieces of Serph and Sera were also used for the Japanese covers of DDS 1 and 2. Similar illustrations were also used for the covers of various iterations of the aforementioned guide book, as well as a fan book and some DDS 2 books, including pieces of Gale and Vayu, Argilla and Prithivi, Heat and Agni, Angel and Harihara, Roland and Indra, and Seraph and Ardha.

Nepal

Nepal initially existed as a distributed power. Prithivi Narayan Shah played a pivotal role in unifying and forming Greater Nepal. Throughout this historical period, various Ranas held sway as leaders, while numerous Shahs ascended the throne as kings. Despite the passage of many dynasties, Nepal managed to remain isolated from the rest of the world.

During the British rule in India, Nepalis sought employment beyond their borders, particularly in regions like Darjeeling and Assam controlled by the British. Nepal exhibited a rent-seeking mentality, desiring external rule and guidance. Unfortunately, a pervasive attitude emerged where individuals were reluctant to instigate change, contributing significantly to our challenges. The issue of brain drain became prominent in 1815 and escalated rapidly in the 1850s. Initially, it was fields like Darjeeling in India that attracted Nepalis due to British influence. However, in contemporary times, destinations such as Australia, the USA, and Dubai have become magnets for Nepali migrants.

The historical pattern in Nepal reveals a recurring cycle of distributed power, followed by centralized rule under a king, then a shift to democracy. Interestingly, it appears that democracy has gained favor among the populace. Nevertheless, Nepal consistently finds itself positioned between two influential countries, China and India, both examples of distinct development models—one democratic and the other more isolated from the global arena.

In contemplating the cyclical nature of events, it's crucial to recognize that in times of war, it's the soldiers who bear the brunt, not the kings.

The key to progress lies in fostering a mindset geared towards improvement rather than a mere desire for change.

MEET THE PROTAGONISTS!

Main Protagonist "I did not do it!" South

The only son of the Goddess of Blessings Prithivi; the former ruler of Kingdom Theorindia. He is an idiot. A loveable idiot. A half-blood who works as an Inspector Combatant and a part-time Librarian helper in his kingdom. A man driven with anger to continue onward his revenge against a certain Seraph. Likes: Being alone, soft/ happy atmosphere and patrol missions Dislikes: The color white, Potatoes, and feeling useless ---Funfacts!---

-South may not look like it but he is the son of the Goddess of Blessings, having inheriting her golden eyes. -He relies solely on what he thinks he can do, that's why it was always advised that his friend and coworker Haonn should always go with him. -After hearing so many sarcastic remarks from Haonn, South has became unable to distinct if it was sardonic or not. Getting used at the empty words thrown by Haonn. -South leads the expeditions mainly known as the Inspector Combatant Alongside Haonn, who is the Sage Master Investigator. -He's also has immunity to poisons. Well, some poisons. One of the reason why he's Shura's special poison testing specimen. -He hates potatoes. No, he despise it from the bottom of his heart. -He can cook delicious food. -After a certain trauma, he couldn't force himself to smile and if he ever wants to smile, it would always be a genuine one. (Unless he's on his way to piss someone off, he will flash an annoying crooked smile that you want to wipe away) -South can't stand his swordsmanship, and every time he notices a similarity of his movement, he intentionally tries to stop himself midway. Often failing to execute his next move or letting go of his sword midway. Librarian "I'm so done with life" Haonn

Someone who suddenly appeared coming with South's teacher Crest Whitefall when going back to Theorindia. The work overloaded Librarian who was supposed to be only focused on the Kingdom Theorindia political affairs and paperwork gets dragged to annoying missions where you have to move so much. Likes: New information, Rumors, Reading and Discovering New Magic Dislikes: Music, baseless chatters and using curses ---Funfacts!--- -He is someone who annoys the annoyance. -One of the close people who respects South and treats him as fellow 'human'. (Openly insults South despite knowing the latter is a Half-Deity) -Haonn's red highlights are not, in fact, dyed. -You need connections? Just ask him. He probably knows everyone around the kingdom and many places. -Even with having so much work, Haonn still manages to finish whatever task he was given and at the same time get enough rest. (Mainly 3-4 hours only. Who could blame him?) -Love's South's cooking. He prefers it over the royal chefs. -He is someone who can maintain elegance even in a dire situation. -His curse comes active every once a month that he need to periodically need to do something painful to keep it at bay. -Haonn's red highlights are once again not dyed.

Finished up the DDS and P2 duologies recently and I was sketching Argilla when I thought, but what if Yukino?

(Kind of wanted Ulala in the mix considering Callisto and Prithivi’s designs, but Yukino and Argilla have so much crossover with their personalities. Ulala and Heat have the same energy and I’ll explain that when I figure that out)
