i just went to buy some things before shabbat and by chance came across this old secondhand bookshop that had (among other things) tons of german-language books so I stopped to browse and the Very Old owner came out to talk to me and at first we spoke in hebrew, but when he noticed the book i had in my hand (and probably my accent) he switched to an obviously-native-yet-slightly-disused German and i know this is half the fact that i literally currently spend 8 hours every weekday on holocaust related things and at least a little bit also the heat, but sometimes there are small facets of Israel that make me want to cry from emotions that i don't even have a name for.

Shoulda never smoked that shit, now I’m pondering the fatalistic view of the Weimar Republic presented by Babylon Berlin and how it at once fits perfectly with the genre but also promulgates reductive views of history that may be nonetheless correct…
