Chapter 1.10 - Samuel Moore, a father
Helena walked into her father’s office. “Hi Dad. Mom said you wanted to speak with me before dinner.”
“I did. Have a seat. How have you been lately, daughter?” Samuel Moore asked.
“I should be asking you that question. You’re the one having a kidney transplant in at the end of the week.”
“I feel okay. I’m ready for it. I did not ask you in here to talk about me. I want to know about you. I saw the photos from the anniversary gala. You did well.”
“Thank you. You gave your invite to Darius,” Helena’s voice went up as if posing a question rather than stating a fact.
“I did.”
“I also saw him with Marcelo at Candice’s house earlier today. He said he works for you now.”
“He does.” There was a brief pause in the flow of the conversation. “How are things between you and the King.”
Helena scoffed, “so he’s just “The King” now? When did you start referring to my husband by his title?”
“When did you stop referring to him as Tony?”
“Dad, that’s different.”
“Is it, Helena? Are the two of you on good terms? Have you started trying for another child.”
“Dad, please!”
“’Please’ what, Helena. Do you enjoy your lifestyle? Do you enjoy being the Queen and all the perks that come with it. Do you live for the adoration of your subjects? Do you want to continue to be the Queen of Vinford?”
“Dad…”
“If you do, then I suggest you find yourself pregnant, sooner rather than later with the next monarch of Vinford.” Samuel said.
“In your endless stream of questions, you never asked if I still love my husband.” Helena said.
“Whether or not you love him is irrelevant.” Samuel stated.
Helena laughed, “Anthony asked me if you ever loved Dante, but to you love is irrelevant.”
“Helena, I love all of my grandchildren. I loved Dante. His death was tragic. But if you want to continue to have power, you need to have an heir. My sources are saying there is some kind of movement within the inner circle of the Royal Trust. My guess is they’re going to start a push to hold an official coronation of Maximilian as the crown prince. You know once that happens, even if you have another child, it will be nearly impossible to reverse, short of death.”
Helena stared at her father, the last part of his statement sounded strange. It sounded as if that was a road he ventured down once before and was hesitant to go down it again. “Well, you’ll be happy to know, we have started trying again.”
“That’s good, Helena. But we need a guarantee.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“You know exactly what it means. I didn’t give Darius the invite out of nowhere.”
“Dad! Darius is married with three children.”
“Don’t play innocent Helena. I’ve met his family and seen his three children. His son looks like Dante. When I met the kid, my questions about Dante’s paternity were answered.”
“Dante was Anthony’s son.” Helena said fiercely.
“Are you sure about that?”
