It turned into a little angsty weird, some kind of pre-and-missed-fenders ficlet.

Fenris can't sleep. At least not yet. Maybe later, when the first morning light crawls over the horizon, gently pushing the darkness of night away, maybe then he can sleep. That's when Anders will leave the tent to take up the watch. He always takes that one, something about being used to getting up early, and about picking herbs and such. The dew of the morning moistening the leaves, so that they keep better for the trek back to the drying racks in Anders' clinic.

At least that's what Anders told Isabela once, when she asked about his early morning habit. He pretended not to listen. Anders would never have answered his questions, not like he answers Isabela's questions. Not with that smile and that twinkling in his eyes, and not with the joke about putting leaves in your smalls to make yourself smell better.

Anders doesn't talk to him anymore. After so many fights, so many vicious words, he just stopped. Stopped altogether. No words about mages, about the Gallows, about freedom for him and all mages. Fenris isn't sure what to make of it, at first it was a relief to not hear his complaints anymore, but now it feels like something is missing. Something that made Anders who he is, is gone. Instead, another version of Anders walks with them, quiet, serious, friendly. Friendly like the head slaves used to be, polite, carefully projecting being contend and calm.

Fenris looks at Anders' back next to him. The mage sleeps fitfully, twitching, sometimes even making a sound. He cries out and sits up, wide eyes staring into nothing. "No, sorry," he says, but his voice is still laden with the weight of the nightmare.

"It was just a dream," Fenris says.

Anders' head whips around and he frowns at him.

"You are safe here."

Even in the dim light of the tent, Fenris can see the mask settling back on Anders' face. Contend. Friendly. Polite.

"Of course." Anders lies back down, folding his hands on his chest.

"Why are you like this?" He had not meant to ask the question but now it is out.

Anders slowly turns his head to look at him. "Like what?"

"Cold. Quiet." He doesn't know how to explain how eerie it is to see Anders like this. "I know you were passionate and now... why are you hiding everything?"

Equally slowly, Anders looks back to the roof of their tent, his fingers tapping out a rhythm on his chest. "I thought you would be happy about that. You always said you didn't want to hear my yammering."

"But now you don't say anything anymore."

"Yes." Anders' voice has lost all its softness. "I don't say anything. It's better this way."

"Why?"

Faster than his eyes can grasp it, Anders is up and leans right into him, his breath in his face. Fear tightens his throat, as if Anders had his hand around his throat. But he is not touching him. That is even worse.

"You don't want to hear what I think." A mad smile draws at Anders' lips. "None of you do. Be glad you don't hear what I think."

He is out of the tent before Fenris can take a breath. His heart beats too fast. Like he is drawn from an invisible force, he crawls out of the tent, grabbing his sword. There, tall in the moonlight, he sees Anders stand at the edge of their camp. He doesn't hide his steps, and the way Anders glances over his shoulder shows him that the mage is aware of his approach.

"Tell me," Fenris says. "Tell me what you are not saying."

The mask slips, for the first time in weeks an actual emotion shows on Anders' face. He recognizes it. Pain. Grief. "Tell me."

Anders lets out a breath. "It has to end. The suffering. It has to end, soon."

"Tell me."

Finally, Anders looks at him, smiling gently. "No. You should not know." Without another word, he walks into the darkness.

Fenris watches him, fighting the feeling that he missed something important.

Excerpt:

The first time had not been planned at all.

‘The Hanged Man’ had been bustling and the weekly card game had gotten rowdier than usual. The laughter and cheer took him away from his gloomy thoughts for a bit. Perhaps he was too relaxed as he had even tried to joke with Fenris but of course the elf had taken it as an insult. He had returned with a dry barb that brought laughs from the others but instantly deflated Anders’ good mood. Before Anders could think of a reply the elf had headed to the bar for more of his wine, brushing Anders face down cards to the floor in the process.

Anders had been hunched under the table gathering the cards and grumbling when he noticed just how unstable Fenris’s chair looked. Everything in the Hanged Man was worse for wear but this chair in particular looked to be on its last leg.

An electric feeling that Anders hadn’t felt in a decade had overtaken him.

After years of playing tricks on all those assholes in the Tower Anders could see it was a perfect set up. With a flick of his wrist the tiniest of spells had loosened the bolts from the chair. With the clammer of the Tavern nobody heard them fall to the floor. Anders shot up to his seat and carefully laid his cards on the table, legs restless at first with the effort to not grin.

Jitters and good luck kisses

paring: musicianbur x fem!reader

authors note: just a short little blurb i had floating around my brain if the reader was dating wilbur and she joins him on tour for support lol. more wilbur fics are cominggg!!

warnings: Wilbur having anxiety, fluffy fluff, pda, short, unedited! if their is anything i missed let me know!

pre-show was always filled with anxiety for wilbur.

He's not exactly sure where his anxiety stems from when it came to performing, but it seems to be a combination of various factors. His overthinking brain tends to focus on potential mishaps, like messing up lyrics or strings breaking. However, he has rehearsed and there's no need to worry about these things.

He tried to clear his mind by shaking his head, hoping to expel the constant noise bombarding him, but it didn't work.

The opening act concluded fifteen minutes ago, and he sensed the audience becoming restless and excited about his band's performance. This caused him to feel increasingly nervous.

Wilbur had always been eager to please others and wished for everything to go smoothly in every circumstance. He had no desire to let anyone down, especially himself and the numerous individuals in the packed venue that had sold out within minutes.

He was still on cloud nine from everything recently. his band was finally taking off and getting more recognition. He was finally making a name for himself and was feeling proud of all the hard work he had put in. He was ready to take on the world and continue to make more music. He was determined to stay humble and keep learning, no matter how successful he became.

As his loving girlfriend, you were immensely proud of him. You stood by him through thick and thin, supporting him every step of the way as he chased his dreams. To you, nothing was more important than seeing him genuinely happy, and his passion for music brought him just that.

Remember that you left to get water five minutes ago he is anxiously pacing on the side stage again, wondering where you are. You went to the venues small "dressing room", which consisted of a mirror, a sofa, and chairs in a musty old room that smelled heavily of cigarettes. He expected you to return by his side sooner.

For the past month, you have been there every other night to wish him good luck with a kiss and cheer him on from the sidelines. You sing along to every single song.

You could tell that he was at ease when you were around, observing him from the sidelines and listening intently to every note he sang. His natural on-stage presence was undeniable and it was clear to you that he was meant to be there.

You were always there for him as a comforting presence whenever things took a turn for the worse. Though he felt guilty about relying on you for emotional support, he knew that your love for him surpassed any such concerns. Your mutual support for each other was a source of joy and strength.

Wilbur nervously chewed on the skin around his nails while Joe next to him tried to calm his nerves as well. Meanwhile, Ash and Mark engaged in casual conversation. Wilbur couldn't comprehend how they managed to stay composed before performances. If they did feel anxious, they never showed it.

“How are you guys not freaking the fuck out?” Wil questioned Mark and Ash, as he now was fiddling with the pegs on his fender.

Ash just shrugged. Great input.

“I used to but now it’s like not as much, since when I'm out there it kinda goes away like a switch is flipped in my brain to not be as anxious,” Mark explains.

Wilbur could agree with that. He experienced the same feeling every time they performed. As Mark mentioned, a switch would turn on in his mind, causing the bright lights and muted sounds of the audience to fade away. All that remained were the sounds of his own voice and his bandmates playing passionately in his ears.

"Okay guys, just one more minute before it's time for you to go on!" The stage manager gave them a thumbs-up before heading backstage to ensure that everything was ready to go one last tiem.

Wilbur’s eyes fell back to the spot where he last saw you disappear and felt his heart beating against his ribs. Panic settling in again.

As another minute passed, he worried that he wouldn't have enough time to kiss you before he went out. Mark was the first to go out due to his queue, followed by Joe and Wilbur could hear the fans cheering as Joe waved to them.

Just as Ash was preparing to take the stage, you rushed in through the side door and approached Wilbur with an anxious expression.

"I'm so sorry. My mother called and wanted to check in on me," you explained.

Wilbur noticed your panicked state and approached you, moving closer until your chests were almost touching.

"It's alright. I'm just relieved that you arrived on time. I was just about to step out," he exhaled, feeling as though he had taken his first breath in minutes.

Being close to you again felt like he was grounded and not lost in his thoughts. Regardless of the time and distance, he always felt your absence and missed you dearly.

As you smiled at him, Wilbur felt like he could die from the sheer beauty of the moment. The apples of your cheeks were so round, and the look in your eyes made it clear that you belonged to him.

He loved you so much.

"Of course! I couldn't let you go on without a kiss," you playfully remarked.

His hands came up to cup your cheeks tenderly and you both leaned in simultaneously until your lips met. It was soft and had nothing but your love and admiration poured into it. It wasn’t rushed or heated, just enough time so that when he pulled away your lips felt tingly with excitement.

You took his hands in yours and kissed his knuckles while gently squeezing them, letting him know that you would be waiting for him after he finished his set. He took a deep breath.

“go be a rockstar,” you kissed his cheek.

As you stood before him, he leaned in and placed one last soft and tender kiss on your forehead. The moment was too precious to resist the urge to kiss you one last time. He held onto your hands until you were too far apart to hold on anymore.

He then turned around, his guitar securely strapped to his back as he strode confidently toward the center stage. The microphone stood tall and proud, waiting for him to deliver his musical gift to the eager audience.

You watched in awe as the man you loved nervousness instantly floated away, as Mark counted into the first song and played his heart out. You never got tired of seeing him be so in the moment when he presented himself in front of an audience.

Wilbur approached you after the show with his heart pounding in his ears and a smile stretched across his face. The stage attendant took his guitar, and he embraced you in a bone-crushing hug spinning you around You could feel the excitement radiating off of him as he set you down. Sweat clung to his shirt and skin but you didn't care.

"That was one of the best shows we've done!" he exclaimed. "The audience was really engaged and enjoying it. I'm so proud of the band!" His happiness was infectious.

He looked into your eyes and smiled. It was important for you to let him know how proud you were of him. You have told him countless times, but you never got tired of telling him.

"I'm so proud of you honey!" you beamed.

Wilbur left your side to go congratulate the rest of the team. the rest of the band gathered around to celebrate together as You watched on in admiration as Wilbur interacted with each of them so effortlessly You felt immense pride seeing how far they had all come in such little time.

You couldn't tell what they were talking about as they all nodded at something Joe had said and separated to get ready to pack up and get back on the tour bus.

There was a look of love appearing on Wilbur's face when he looked back at you. You felt a warmth in your heart as you returned his gaze. He returned to you and embraced you once more, burying his face in your neck. As he bent over you, your hands threaded their way into his damp curls.

"Thank you for being here, I honestly don't know what id do without you." he sighs into your ear.

Your heart fluttered at the softness in his voice and you tightened your grip around him.

"I'm glad I could be here. I love you," you whispered the last part so softly that you doubted he could hear it.

Until he whispered back so affectionately; "I love you too,"

You both left the venue hand in hand as you walked with the rest of the group to the bus to get ready for going out for drinks at the local bar to celebrate another great night.

Jonny's Super-Rare New Telecaster Guitar

NOTE: Thank you to Antoine for pointing out that this is in fact Dudu Tassa's guitar, borrowed by Jonny for the session! That certainly explains why it's such a rarity for Jonny!

With Radiohead, Jonny uses his Telecaster Plus to cut through the other guitars in a mix, thanks to the guitar's mid-heavy Lace Sensor Red Dually pickups. He also breaks out his Starcaster when he wants richness with some sparkle. With Junun and the Smile, sparser arrangements leave space for the rich, slightly scooped pickups on Jonny's Les Paul Standard to shine. But Jonny has only rarely performed with a guitar fitted with single-coil pickups. Soundchecks in 2008 and The Daily Mail in 2011-2012 are rare exceptions. But paired with the Normal channel on Jonny’s AC30, his sound has remained warm and rich even with those guitars. It’s never been what you’d normally associate with a “Telecaster player”.

However, for his new collaborative album with Dudu Tassa, Jonny has broken out a Tele with standard single-coil pickups. You don’t need to look at the video to hear the different, the sparkle of his tone is a real surprise! The tone blends very nicely with the warmer sounds of the brass ensemble and Tassa's riffy bass playing. On first hearing the initial single, Ashufak Shay, I assumed Tassa must be playing guitar because it was so bright — now you know I'm not so sure.

We did see a butterscotch Standard on a stand behind Jonny during tour rehearsals with The Smile last year, but that guitar had a white pickguard. Jonny decided not to bring that instrument on tour with the band, and we've never knowingly heard it on a The Smile track. But the new footage of Ya Mughir al-Ghazala makes it clear that this new butterscotch guitar is a very unusual “Standard” Telecaster. The heavy wear to the butterscotch finish suggests that it’s vintage, as do the three round brass string saddles. However, the key is the headstock…

But before we reveal the new instrument, a little context on Jonny’s other guitars: while the 1970s Fender Starcaster might be a rare and expensive instrument today, it was fairly undesirable when Jonny bought his in the 90s. Similarly, Jonny’s late-70s Les Paul is from what many consider to be the companies worst period (the “Norlin” era), and it too was fairly undesirable in the 2000s when Jonny acquired it. And he bought his first Fender Telecaster Plus brand new from a guitar store after the band were signed. While Thom and Ed have grown increasingly interested in vintage guitars, Jonny has generally kept the same guitars and focused his energy on learning other instruments instead.

That makes Jonny’s new guitar all the more surprising. It seems that when Jonny goes vintage, he goes all in. The headstock on Jonny’s butterscotch Tele features a “silver spaghetti” Fender logo, which suggests that it’s a pre-CBS instrument. But the real key is the empty space below the logo. The guitar has no “Telecaster” name on the headstock! That makes it one of fewer than 500 “no-caster” guitars produced by Fender between February and September 1951. Earlier that year, Fender was forced to drop their original “Broadcaster” name after learning that Gretsch already produced a drum set called the “Broadcaster". Until they settled on “Telecaster” (a hybrid of Television and Broadcaster), they simply shipped guitars with no model name. For more info on the No-caster, fuzzfaced.net has a great page on it!

Given the rarity of the instruments, purists are probably furious that Jonny crammed some 0.88mm Dunlop picks into the vintage single-ply pickguard. That said, it was clearly well loved and well used by the prior owner — the fingerboard is visibly missing much of its original finish already. And I’m sure most would agree that it’s better to hear it used for music, rather than see it sit in a case to retain its condition.

We should also mention that Jonny did very briefly tour with a white Telecaster Standard in 1992. That instrument, in a white finish with some black tape or paint, was Jonny’s first guitar, purchased from his guitar teacher when he was 14. It’s visible on a stand in a photo from the recording of the Drill EP, but Jonny probably didn’t use it much since he’s seen playing his Telecaster Plus in the same photo. That guitar was unfortunately stolen on May 15, 1992, during Radiohead’s first tour, and hasn’t been seen since (it’s not to be confused with the two Tele Plus guitars stolen in 1995, one of which was returned in 2014).

General Update

So, if you missed it, two days before the con, a big branch fell on my car. Fortunately it just damaged the fender and the windshield. Unfortunately, because of some problems switching insurance the month before, none of it will be covered. So I'm paying all of that out of pocket. Luckily, I had a pretty good weekend, money-wise, at AMW. Unluckily, there are bills to pay, groceries to buy, and supplies to restock, and I would like to stay ahead of those things, if possible.

I don't understand their marketing plan and what demographics they want to target other than relying on fans. BTM is being added to pop playlists despite Louis posing as an indie artist. They had months before the new era to try to change his image a little bit and they didn't do anything, he remains isolated in the industry. Sorry if I'm wrong but I haven't seen artists like Dmas, Sam Fender or The Snuts talk about BTM. It's very clear that the indie niche doesn't see or treat him as an equal.

Yeah, anon, I kept hoping they would do something to start turning things around before a single—not the festival in 2021 or him in the studio for months or his impressive tour around the world reached outside the fandom bubble. One might argue it was better to wait for there to be new music to link to his name, but then, what are they doing now? It has all been essentially the same as in the past.

A couple good press interviews are only going to take you so far. If radio play is a problem—and it obviously is in the UK, why aren’t other avenues not being explored and why miss a chance to perform at The One Show, which had a nice interview? Then there was Lorraine: useless if not detrimental. And then? Nothing for days when it hasn’t been two weeks since the song was released. Even Louis’ accounts—active throughout tour, are dead? No end of tour post or about his biggest show to date, which he even mentioned in interviews? It doesn’t make sense.

The thing with Louis is that it goes beyond artistic erasure where people need to hear his music—and you can’t wait and hope for them to be inspired to check him out—there is an embedded negative bias to counter, belittlement that goes back to XF; years of disrespect, casual and expected. BMG should have made certain TodayFM played his song in full after granting them an interview, for instance. They shouldn’t allow two thirds of an interview to be about 1D and Freddie. They better keep that harrie DJ who is hosting one of the listening parties in check. If they don’t protect him, what’s the point?

There is a lot to overcome. It won’t change in a day, but it requires work—it won’t change with the same promo or even less.

I think with a good strategy you can target and reach different demographics simultaneously. With his background and the associations to his name, an ‘indie’ label is always going to be hard, but what you can’t do is undermine what progress is made in that direction with e.g. NME and AltPress with tabloid personality ‘promo’ that is damaging for any artist.

Listening parties for fans in random cities in the US will not expand his audience or keep his current fanbase engaged either. An international singer doing a meet and greet at a coffee shop? I still remember the Q102 Jingle Ball where he was the entertainment for the pre show instead of having him perform—Niall was headlining the actual show…

I hope to be wrong and there be much more good and beneficial promo to come. But UK has definitely been… bad.

To be fair, The Snuts did include his song in their playlist; Johnny from DMAs at least went to one of the shows and their account tweeted about it. Sam Fender would not be caught dead with him—but also for people who claim that Louis as an ‘indie’ artist wouldn’t do or get this or that: Sam celebrates charting, gets played on radio, has attended award shows and walked red carpets, etc.

Nobody is cancelling him, they are just disappointed he’s calling an abuser a ‘hero’ and even wanting to be in his presence. If you think a white straight male can be cancelled you’re very wrong. Do you even know what the term ‘cancelled’ means? Sam has said he wasn’t thinking and knows he was wrong for it. Stop defending him for something he knows he shouldn’t have done

This is going to be a messy answer because it's an emotional and volatile subject matter for me and my thoughts are muddled but... For a start...

You're doing it, you're literally doing it again right now with your "white straight male" thing.

Also cancelled is a meaningless word, there isn't a single person who has ever been effectively cancelled.

Also as a victim of domestic violence/rape and coercive control I think I have a pretty solid say on this one. I wasn't even disappointed in him for taking the photo, Johnny Depps a really famous actor who starred in some big films from my childhood, I'd probably have a drink with him because I'm not naïve and I don't believe for a second you can live a morally pure life in which you can be perfect all the time and avoid contact with other people or things you perceive to be morally bad.

What you're saying about how Sam shouldn't even have wanted to be around him, that's you effectively saying that Depp should now be isolated from society forever and idk, that strikes me as weird and not justice at all.

I actually don't care that Sam's apologised either, I don't think he needed to apologise for a photograph. It's dumb, it's not progressive, it hasn't helped DV victims. This whole case has been shit for DV victims, not because of the verdict (though the verdict has been grim) but because its made a complete mockery of DV cases.

It turned a nuanced and horrible case into reality TV for two months. As a victim of DV I can safely say I am now no more likely or unlikely to ask for help, or to talk about my experiences.

My ex tried to take me to court for defamation when I told people what had happened to me and seeing this court case pan out the way it has has been grim BUT,

This court case is so far removed from reality and so deeply embedded in celeb culture that it may as well be an episode of big brother or some shit. Its not going to effect DV victims at all, women were being sued for this shit before, victims will continue to be sued after.

And I'm ngl, the verdict was probably correct, at the close of the trial they had both done so much damage to one anothers careers for having gone through the whole thing so publicly.

Abusive relationships are messy, and nuanced and you can never point blank say that one person was perfect and one person was evil, especially when it sounds the way this one was. It sounds messy and blurred and I just think anyone getting mad at Sam Fender of all people for taking a photo with Johnny Depp pre verdict, not even drinking with him as pals just like one drink and then leaving to go seperate places... Is missing the point massively and as I said,

Proving Sam's point about how there's 0 room for mistakes and you're held to a ridiculously high moral standard that is IMPOSSIBLE to meet by social media and society in general.

His post was obvs not in support of Depp and he hasn't said anything in support of Depp pre now either so for people to jump on it in such a reactionary, angry brain, way is stupid.

I don't know how to break this to you either but, the DV stats across the world are SO high, the gender based violence stats are SO high, that we are all mutual friends with at least 1 if not more people who have treated another person poorly.

You litterally can't avoid them, and again, getting mad at Sam Fender, a man who speaks about women's rights a lot, who does actually try and is actually quite politically concious, over one photo, is missing the point.

IPL 2024: Dhoni relinquishes captaincy of Chennai Super Kings

CHENNAI SUPER Lords are set to start their Indian Head Association title guard against Illustrious Challengers Bengaluru, denoting a possibly essential season for Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who surrendered as skipper on Thursday (21).

Dhoni played his last global in 2019 yet remains one of the country's most famous players, and keeping in mind that the 42-year-old made it clear that things are pulling back last season he actually assisted Chennai with bringing home a fifth championship to match Mumbai Indians' take.

Recording in The Studio

When The Studio was built I went for an additional option of sound-proofing, which not only made sense from a privacy standpoint (because I am taking work calls on loudspeaker in the sapce) but also because I anticipated that I would pick up my guitar again after many years away from it and even start to record some music again.

My setup is pretty basic, but also therefore quite affordable, and is within the reach of most (albeit with some amendements to different models of certain equipment deending on how deep your budget is).

First up. The Mac Mini. In my case this is a second hand one that I sourced off ebay for about £250 and it does everything I need it to. Obviously had my budget been more significant I could have opted for a new model which would be future-proof for many years to come but I couldn't justify it at this point. The other great thing about the mac Mini is the small footprint. It sits very easy ion my desktop.

The Mac Mini was a good option in another regard for me as I didn't want another monitor, and instead it shares the monitor which I use for work. In this case the mac Mini is connected via HDMI to my 27" AOC monitor. My work Macbook air connects to the same monitor using the DP input and switching between work and msauic is a breeze.

For recording I use a Steinberg UR22 audio interface connected to the mac Mini. I used this originally because I used to use Steinberg Cubase to record, but I have now switched to Logic Pro but this audio interface works perfectly with it.

Mic recording is done thoguh either the Shure Prologue mic which has been supersceded by new generation mics, like the Shure 58 which provides a great deal of bang for your buck.

I also use a Behringer T-1 tube mic which requires a pre-amp. This mic has been supersceded by the Behringer TM1 and represents true professional quality microphone setup for a pretty reasonable price. This is a professional piece of kit whjich provides a very real and deep recording capability.

There are cheaper Behringer condensor mics on the market like the Behringer C-1 which is a self-powered condensor mic and the C-3 which can also be driven by a phantom power unit,

The 1 piece of kit I'm missing is some active studio monitors as my old ones broke due to being stored in the cold roof, so I need to fid a replacement set. In the meantime I am using an old pair of B&O wired headphones.

Guitar duties are taken up by my Martin electro-acoustic 000C-16RGTE, which whilst discontinued, new equivalents sell for over £2000 now. However, a more budget appreciative model is the LX1RE which gets very solid reviews for a fraction of the price.

I also play around on my Mexican Fender Stratocaster. Again, these come at a price, but the Squier Stratocaster range are a great budget alternative.

So that's it. Her'es a couple of shots of my setup.

It's simple but everything I need to be able to create some content is reasonable quality for public consumption.
