One thing my father and I make note of when we go outside together is the suspicious lack of trash cans and recycling bins in public spaces.
Spaces we frequent and congregate, like bus stops and public parks rarely have an adequate amount of trash cans near benches and picnic tables where people sit and eat. A lot of the trash cans near the bus stops in my neighbourhood have been removed for whatever reason.
We also point out how far the bins are placed from exits and entrances and how inconvenient that is for people who are coming and going and might have trash on their person that they need to dispose of.
Ultimately, all of this just leads to more littering. Makes me sad. So I’m pleasantly surprised when I see bins adequately placed and properly maintained.
