Cereal #137: Post Chicken & Waffles

So....I may have taken a five-year break since my last cereal review. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t eaten lots of delicious bowls. I am fully prepared and ready to go through every last cereal I can find at Aldi; I am ready to find another terrible store-brand version of Life; I’m ready to try every last cereal/pop culture tie-in from the Avengers to the Funko Pops.

But what I was REALLY waiting for was someone to make a Chicken and Waffles cereal. When that happened, I knew I had to get back into the cereal blogging game.

Here I am. I’m back. And I am ready to eat and review a crap-ton of cereal.

Today’s bowl is the aforementioned Post Chicken and Waffles.

I suppose to the cereal layman, this one might be a bit of a head-scratcher. Does it taste like waffles? DOES IT TASTE LIKE CHICKEN?!?!

The answer lies more with the logo on the center of the box...

It really tastes more like Honey Bunches of Oats with a hint of syrup flavor.

It’s like what would happen to an off-the-rails cereal like Waffle Crisp (which is CRAZY maple-flavored) and had to grow up.

I can just imagine lil’ Waffle Crisp just standing there in front of his parents and his dad was all like, “Are you just going to be a lazy piece of sugary crap your whole life? Someday, young man, you’re going to have to grow up and join other adults in the real world!”

...and this is what happened.

Waffle Crisp went out and after a real milk bender got together with a box of Honey Bunches of Oats. Nine months later...out pops Post Chicken and Waffles.

And the chicken particles DO NOT taste like chicken. They are just for show.

I’d also add that I REALLY like maple-flavored stuff. I put syrup in coffee. I may be that guy that likes to just mix syrup and butter on the side of my plate and eat it with a spoon. But for me, this one was just sorta okay.

If you are down with maple-flavored things, this is worth a buy. If for no other reason...you’re eating a CEREAL called CHICKEN AND WAFFLES and that in and of itself is worth $3.50.

Yesterday’s picks were two new Post Cereals: Nilla Banana Pudding: This cereal breathes the banana life right into you-literally. Once you open the bag you are immediately hit with the overwhelming smell of banana. I mean if you like the smell of banana just leave this bag cracked somewhere and the aroma of banana will fill up the room. The bowl presentation is good with this one. Tiny little marshmallows and big Nilla wafers. On initial bite the banana flavor unlike its smell isn’t really there, but allow this cereal to rest in the milk for a brief moment and the flavor explosion emerges. Yes, it definitely tastes like banana, but the banana flavor isn’t over powering. There’s a good balance of flavor, crunch, and texture. This cereal a top pick if you enjoy banana just know that it’s peak flavor isn’t truly exposed until it sits- hence, “a sitter.” ™️ Hostess Donettes: This cereal is...WOW! Seriously, it is one of the best cereals I’ve ever had. Let me back track one second. Unlike the above cereal this cereal does not greet pleasantries with your nasal passage. This cereal smells like the awful protein powder that you bought from Walmart that you have to choke down. Yes, the smell is horrible. However, are we really into cereal for its smell? Dry this cereal has decent flavor and good crunch. However, once this cereal touches milk it’s a magical experience. It’s almost hard to describe how delicious this cereal actually is. It’s literally delicious powdered doughnuts. Soft, chewy, yummy, deliciousness in a box served with ice cold milk and it is a phenomenal experience.
