( poppy drayton, cis female, she/her, 26) ** ♔ announcing ATHDARA MACDONALL, the HEIR TO THE HIGHLAND CLANS ! in a recent portrait they seem to resemble POPPY DRAYTON. it is a miracle that SHE survived the last five years and for that reason, they are AMBIVILOUS the kingdoms working together. reflecting on them now, they remind me of THE BRINGING OF A PEOPLE TOGETHER UNDER ONE BANNER, THE WILDNESS OF THE NORTH WRAPPED INTO A WOMEN, FORGOING SAFETY FOR THE SAKE OF THE PEOPLE, THE SERPENT BENEATH THE FLOWERS OF EDEN.

She is a child of the North , through and through . Druidic , yes . Pacifistic ? No . It is impossible to be so in these times , when your lands are split by the Lowlands favouring England , and the Highlands fighting tooth and claw for their traditions , their kinship , their ways of life . She is the dagger beneath the hem and the tip to the canine . Athdara is a bridge , or a torch to burn it .
Athdara was born screaming . Hearty lungs , red faced , that would only be calmed when soothed with Gaelic rhyme . One child of many in her father’s brood , but the favourite without a doubt . Seven siblings , two surviving to adulthood and wedded and warred off for the sake of the Highlands , Athdara took up the idea of bridging Scotland with a wedding to the Stuarts — or , if necessary , pincering them with a wedding to the English . A bold and risky move , but one that would allow infiltration from the inside ( and give Scotland a right to the English throne ) .
It was from fifteen onwards that she would take speeches , that she would muddy her hems and hands in aid to the people . From farming , to cooking , to distribution , to rallying up the warriors with war speeches . Any aspect in which she could touch the hearts of her people , she took . And in this respect , she is their future Laird . Even , their future Queen , if the need arose . Especially after the most recent six years gone .
At age nineteen , Athdara was packed up with her hounds , her horse and her maid , and sent for a year’s mission to the Stuart household . A diplomacy . A scouting mission . Secret letters back and forth , describing the state of the house , how they ruled , and how the power balance swayed from day to day . It was only meant to be a year sacrificed , something to be finished with a potential engagement and returning to her home in the highlands , lesser prince in tow .
And then , at twenty , the plague hit . And Athdara was trapped .
Unable to travel northwards for fear of introducing more plague to remote lands that remained somewhat untouched , the heir would witness the disruption to the Stuart household . Their Queen’s death , the shift in heirarchy — but most of all , their aid to the English , and the lack of response . The people began to hate and fear and Athdara would take none of it . Her hands would take callouses with shovel hilts , as she resumed her previous habits of farming in nearby fields , in delivering grain where she could grab it , in even dismantling what small amount of finery she owned for the folk to trade at any chance . It was all she could do , those five years , and it was enough to put the Highlanders in the Lowland common’s good graces .
Perhaps even whispers of a change in crowns .
And now , twenty five and aching for home , she stands in the halls of Switzerland , surrounded by monarchs and nobles alike , aware of sharing space with the English , with the Catholicism that wished her ways gone . Uneasy and homesick , she stands , and she waits for the nonsense to be over , for the home calling for her to be revisited .

greatly prefers the company of animals to people, she has a limited amount of patience for people that annoy her.
nyx is a little abrasive and hard to get along with at first, she doesn’t have much a filter, but once you are considered a friend to her, there is nothing she wouldn’t do, fiercely loyal to a fault, something that she picked up from the animals she has continually grown up around. this has made her a pack animal, her house is never empty, there is always a stray animal or recovering patient in there, the more the merrier, it’s her own person sanctuary.
werewolves over vampires because somehow to her they are the perfect blend between animal and human, plus fluffy.
being a creature of habit, she doesn’t very much care for modern day technology. now that isn’t to say that she doesn’t have a phone, and a laptop at the clinic, but she keeps all veterinary records hand written with an immaculate filing system,
nyx didn’t become dr. sparrow just for her love of animals, oh no, this was a tactical decision you see, when people are worried and stressed about pets and animals they are far less likely to pay attention to common sense rules like not giving your name to the fae. during emergencies, check ups and almost any situation she can coax a name from someone and it goes down on clinic records. but it also finds its way into a small leather bound notebook no bigger than your hand.
rarely does she use it for her own gain, but that little extra power it provides, as well as knowing its there should she need to use it, to pull a name from her list and use it against its owner.

Bio:
Maisie (or Maisie May, as her mother liked to call her) had a golden childhood. Sure, she had no father to speak of, no other family besides her mother, and little money growing up, but she had her mother. Vanessa Adams was her daughter’s best friend. In fact, she was the only thing the little girl had in the world. When the pair’s crummy apartment exploded in fiery haze that not only killed Vanessa, but also deafened little Maisie, her whole world was plunged into silence and despair. Poor orphaned Maisie learned that she did, in fact, have family the day her mother died. She also learned, that for the nine years she had been alive, her grandmother had wanted nothing to do with her. Clara Adams was a stern, unforgiving, and superstitious old woman that had disowned her daughter when she fell pregnant at just 17 years old. Still, to her credit, the old woman took Maisie in and provided for her private tutors in sign language so the girl wouldn’t fall behind in her education.
One night, Clara heard voices coming from Maisie’s room. She burst into the room, expecting to find an intruder, for her granddaughter had been long mute since losing her hearing. What she found instead was a jovial Maisie who excitedly signed that her mother had come back to speak with her. Clara thought these were just the ravings of a grief-maddened little girl and dismissed her with a quick sign. But then, Maisie began to speak. Clara could only hear Maisie’s side of the conversation, but it was more than enough to convince the elderly woman that her granddaughter had been practicing witchcraft, was the spawn of the devil himself, or perhaps something even worse still. In the blink of an eye, Clara had packed Maisie into the car and left her on the doorstep of the government to be dealt with. Yet again, Maisie was all alone in the world.
She likes to think of herself as a “veteran” of Grimstone, having been there for almost her entire life. Gone is the reserved and grief-stricken little girl that had been dumped on the doorstep of the government. Maisie is a bright and bubbly young lady, choosing to find the beauty in the world where she can. Grimstone has been her home for so long that she figured long ago that she had very well make the best of it. Despite her sunny outlook, the girl has very few friends, given that very few people know sign or would consider putting in the effort to learn just to speak with her. She likes to keep her power to herself, not wanting to be labeled not only as the deaf girl, but the girl who saw dead people.

Joseph Fender: Despite Maisie’s best efforts to keep her power to herself, Joseph somehow found out that she can see and speak to the dead. He’s been begging her to contact his girlfriend, to send her a message, and while Maisie wants nothing more than to help him, she can’t just call on the dead. That doesn’t stop Joseph from asking every chance he gets, though.
Haider Ajam: Haider and Maisie are often paired together in various settings all over Grimstone. Over time, the two formed a timid friendship. Maisie appreciates Haider’s friendship more than he’ll ever know and the two have even began to develop their own form of communication
