So I watched the first three episodes of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin….*NO SPOILERS!
I like it. It’s different from the original PLL.
One thing: Tabby has got to stop with the film references. I get it, she loves movies. But almost every other line is a movie reference.

Can somebody explain to me why would Karen want to be Kelly? I really don’t get it. I’d get it if it was the other way around.

Pretty Little Liars Original Sin Season 2
Tumblr media
“We are beyond excited to continue telling stories with our amazing group of little liars — exploring their friendships, their romances, their secrets, and their status as scream queens supreme!”
“We certainly have a lot of places for these characters to go, new mysteries to tell and hopefully new ways to scare people.”
What do we know and what can we expect:
New season, same liars - the 5 main girls + Karen/Kelly
New places to be explored in the PLL universe- there’s a whole world of secrets between Millwood and Rosewood.
-A will get a new look, figuratively and probably literally, too.
Possible cameo by Lucy Hale as Aria (Imogen’s baby adoptive mother)… just keep Ezra as far away from this universe as possible plsss
The PLL moms will also returns with MORE secrets… and more flashbacks

Random ppl:os thoughts (spoilers maybe)
The scene where the sheriff was getting he*d from an underage boy???
The girls all getting detention with no actual evidence was such bullshit. Is there absolutely no cameras in the school that's a bit ridiculous (or convenient idk) but they have the budget for a school nurse? (I'm from Europe and we don't have school nurses)
Imogen being (I think) 15 and pregnant like??? Is there a pedophile walking around the town or is he in high school. Him being mentioned once in passing is a bit nuts.
Tabby secretly filming the guys locker room wtf?? Very odd weirdo behaviour. (Not that this would be an excuse but she never mentioned she was working on a project so wtf is it for) I imagine her laptop is going to be taken either by A or the police and what she has is chxld pxrnography right?
The flash drive that tabby currently has hasn't been viewed by the girls my guess is that the Karen footage isn't there are it's something else. It's a small town and my guess is that everyone shops at the Same stores so she might have picked up a different flash drive from wes' house
Also this show is meant to be steeped in reality. And the girls are meant to be gen z.... I fear our generation films everything would you not have filmed the weirdo figure that's literally stalking and start compiling evidence.
Tabby and wes should have ran that A character with their car instead of starting and naming films like girl is you're really about it you would have given A a tap so that you could later identify them in broad day light. (I guess they couldn't have done this bc plot but still)
Would love that there would be enough thought being put into this show to show the school gradually getting messier in the following episodes to show that the janitors not doing his job to leading up to finding the body.
The school ballet teacher (??) gives absolut weirdo vibes. Her veiled threat to Faran about her scoliosis... Odd. Also I feel like she might have gone to school with the original sinners though Faran's mom didnt seem to know her when she got Faran reinstated.
Also I felt like the directing was a bit one note. The creators said that this show was going to be highly stylised...... But I always felt the director always went for the obvious choice. I really don't think direction wise it does look and feel like the mid 2000s teen dramas. I was expecting something fresher than that I fear dutch angles aren't revolutionary.
All in all I thought it was to be expected but I wasn't hooked I heard from people that got early access that it doesn't hook you in until episode 5...which is a little bit crazy.
Bc in this day an age every two weeks an excellent show gets dropped so having to wait 5 episodes to be drawn into a show is a bit nuts. And not being hooked after dropping 3 episodes is a bit disappointing. These are just my thoughts.

Watching PLL Original Sin and MAN it's so good. So different to the original, definitely more of thriller/slasher vibes, and being on HBO is such a benefit. I'm only on ep 4 but I'm having a blast. PLL was an absolute shitshow, (that I still watched every second of) but this is great so far!
Also, spoilers for ep 4 [although I think it's more just an Easter egg]

My 'Pretty Little Liars' Obsession Led Me To My Best Friend
Tumblr media
“Got a secret, can you keep it?” Well, I’ve got one: Though Pretty Little Liars ended in 2017, the seven-season mystery thriller schemed its way into being an integral part of my life for the long haul, so much so that the opening credits live in my head rent-free. To this day, each time I hear the sinister theme song — “Secret” by The Pierces — I’m brought right back to my childhood comfort show (ahem, obsession). The visuals begin with a swipe of mascara, the smear of red lipstick, and a clasp of a heel onto a porcelain doll, which makes me feel like I’m watching someone get pampered for prom. Until, of course, it cuts to four girls standing in front of a casket. It's a chilling moment, one that, until Season 6B, ended with Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) delivering her iconic “shh.” I got cast under the show’s spell the first time I saw it, and I wasn’t the only one: Pretty Little Liars led me to my best friend.
Ironically, plotlines about deceit and betrayal actually helped ignite a long-lasting friendship. In 2011, the only other person I knew to be watching PLL was my now-BFF, Taylor, who’s been by my side for over a decade. We were only about 11 and 12 when it premiered, so shout out to our parents for letting us watch a show that dealt with very adult themes like substance use disorder, assault, and grief. Unlike our classmates, who watched tween-appropriate hits like iCarly and Victorious, we became PLL stans.
As fans know, the show is loosely based on the Sara Shepard YA series of the same name, and the first book was my entry point into the PLL universe. I loved reading about blackmailers and murderers navigating high school, but I thought I was the only one who was into it. (Was this my ~I’m different~ complex showing, or were my peers just naturally more inclined to recap Dance Moms? I’ll never know.) So, Taylor first struck up a conversation with me at school because she spotted the first PLL book on my desk — you know, the one painted with porcelain wax dolls warning to “never trust a pretty girl with an ugly secret” in a Gothic script. She asked if I’d watched the TV adaptation yet and we immediately exchanged phone numbers to text about upcoming episodes. We then fell into the fandom. Fast.
I’d never talked to Taylor before this interaction — we had only been in a few classes together — but I always saw her as approachable and friendly. Universally, the beginning of middle school is a big and terrifying year when kids from different elementary schools unite. Eager to meet new people, I reached for friendship at any chance I could get. Taylor made it easy. Aside from being a genuinely kind person (a rare trait for a middle schooler!), she was fangirling over the same thing as me.
Fast forward over a decade later, and the show still feels timeless, especially in its accurate depictions of how dramatic high school can get. It’s no surprise there’s a PLL HBO Max reboot on the way along with the remakes of other buzzy shows from that era (hello, 2010s nostalgia). Ah. It was a simpler time. Back then, Freeform was still ABC Family and for me, Tuesdays meant one thing: PLL is on. What first started as a solo viewing experience soon became a designated hangout time, a time slot reserved for me and Taylor to gush over how much we loved Ashley Benson. (We still do!)
The series had a vibe similar to Gossip Girl or Bridgerton in that a mysterious, unidentifiable pot-stirrer keeps fans guessing each episode, but it was arguably so much better since “A,” the anonymous villain, is out for, you know, murder. Ultimately, it was the type of whodunit that made me and Taylor (and millions of viewers) go down a couple of Reddit rabbit holes — remember the “Aria is A” suspicion? — and this is where my and Taylor’s experience with fan theories began.
Oh, and let’s not forget the location. PLL takes place in the fictional suburb of Rosewood, Pennsylvania, and for two girls from Bucks Country — aka the Philadelphia ‘burbs — we ate it up. The beloved “Welcome to the Dollhouse” episode was exceptionally creepy not only because the Liars get locked into a life-size replica of their bedrooms, but also because our real neighborhood looks extremely similar to their hometown. It operates like Rosewood, too, in that small-town gossip travels at lightning speed.
The Pennsylvania-based plotline also made it easier for us to identify with the characters, who felt like extensions of ourselves. In many ways, we got to know each other through their personalities. Taylor is studious and high-achieving, obviously a Spencer. And I owned feather earrings because I saw Lucy Hale sport them in Season 1, so obviously an Aria. Asking “Are you more of a Hanna or an Emily?” held as much weight in 2012 as asking someone their rising sign in 2021. While it might not say much, it also tells you everything you need to know about a person.
PLL got its start right before live-tweeting shows became popularized, so when we weren’t together, I used to text Taylor on my slide-out keyboard phone (only Zillennials will remember) to compare notes without stumbling upon many spoilers. They read something like this: “Caleb and Hanna are soul mates, TBH.” Like every other fan, we theorized about why A had to be Ian… and Melissa… and Jenna… and Mona… and, you get the point. When our elaborate speculations ran cold, we’d pause DVR’d episodes to gather more clues, like glimpses of Red Coat’s face in her second season introduction, or inspections of those eerie-gloved hands assembling dolls and sharpening knives at the end of each episode.
This game of Clue made room for conversations about all the things. We were in high school during the show’s peak, so it felt like the Liars had laid the groundwork for how to operate our school’s halls. Rosewood High was not traditional — uh, multiple students came back from the dead (*cough* Mona and Alison) — but it did prepare us for the stressors of college applications and first romantic relationships. In fact, Benson’s Hanna Marin would be proud of my matchmaking skills because back then, I introduced Taylor to the boyfriend she’s still with today.
As we both grew up with the show, our friendship got even deeper. The Liars weren’t the only ones to share secrets, and I found it incredibly easy to confide in Taylor. She’s trustworthy, level-headed, compassionate, and an excellent listener. She’s someone I know will always pick up on the second ring and is the type of friend to be there with advice, reassurance, and a quick-witted one-liner. She once joked about never needing a diary because we’ve transcribed the past 10 years of our lives via text.
Our bond has remained strong, especially because the most outrageous PLL-esque plotlines of our lives are ones we’ve experienced together. I love Taylor because I don’t have to provide background for my stories. I’m even so familiar with the cast of characters in her life that when someone re-enters after a long period, I like to say they Alison DiLaurentis’ed her.
And on the off-chance she’s not there to witness something meaningful happen to me IRL, she’s always ready to decipher what went down over texts or dinner and drinks — just like we did when we were teens trying to figure out who A was (minus the wine, of course).
The way she can reconstruct my way of thinking and offer up a perspective I hadn’t seen before is almost paranormal. Whether these are Taylor’s naturally given talents or traits learned from peeling back all the layers of the series, I’m not sure. But she’s always there to decode situations with me — whether they relate to a TV show or during moments when I feel lost.
I couldn’t be more thankful that Taylor entered my life and that PLL played a role in our friendship. I feel so incredibly lucky to know someone like her. Plus, now I have someone who is obligated to watch the reboot with me. Ali was right: Friends do share secrets. And she’s ~quite literally~ the reason Taylor’s got all of mine. Spencer and Aria, you’ve got some competition.

Does it feel weird to anyone else that Sadie is 19 and Dylan is 30?? Why not get someone closer to her age??
That’s the point of it. That’s how old Taylor was when she dated Jake and that’s how old he was. It’s meant to be uncomfortable.

Kevin Cage of @spotlightsaga reviews... Riverdale (S01E05) Chapter 5: Heart of Darkness Airdate: February 23, 2017 @cwnetwork Ratings: 0.975 Million :: 0.34 18-49 Demo Share Score: 8.25/10 **********SPOILERS BELOW********** Maple syrup, huh... According to several different procedurals I watch that's a key ingredient in the ink in counterfeit bills. I'm only suggesting that there's more to the story... As there usually is... And secrets & Riverdale seem to go hand in hand. Madelaine Petsch once again is a scene-stealer throughout the episode, tho Chapter 5 really slows down the barn-burner type pacing that 'Riverdale' has conditioned us to and made sure we understood how over-the-top and wicked The Blossom family is. I had mentioned before that Cheryl was like an archetype as other characters seemed to be much more 3-D, and then in a later episode she remarked that not only was she aware of this, she was proud of it and used it to her advantage. She wears the brevity of her character like an armor... And now, as we get a real inside look into the Blossom household, we see why. The Blossom's are as dark and sinister as their history would suggest... And as well as the framing device of Jughead's poetic narration. In the beginning he claims that The Blossom Estate was like 'Riverdale's very own haunted house' and referred to Cheryl as a 'Gothic Heroine'. A few critics have taken issue with Jughead's narration, but I find that, along with the iconic color scheme, and emotional original score, only helps to add to Riverdale's overall unique aesthetic and furthers the idea that Jughead is the right man for the job of handling the school paper and side-investigation into Jason Blossom's murder. He's talented, naturally curious, and he has a lot of free time on his hands... So when he's not downing burgers at Pops, he's leading the show's narrative and helping the town piece together theirs as well. Cheryl reaches out to Veronica, who ends up with the real grasp of who The Blossom's are... Sitting at Cheryl's self imposed dinner party the night before the funeral and getting an earful of the trademark 'Blossom Bitchiness' as Penelope chastises her daughter every chance she gets, and both Penelope and Clifford use the opportunity to remind Veronica that her father is a crook and in jail. So not exactly the hippest of dinner parties... It's more like a Dark Shadows' version of 'The Real Housewives of Riverdale'. It's campy and dark, but deliciously so. I'm not sure why Penelope doesn't want Cheryl to speak at the service, but to be perfectly frank, there is some serious resentment which makes my mind goes to incestuous places... Maybe Penelope was jealous of Cheryl and Jason's relationship, I have no clue. It's actually perfectly fine that they don't really explain it, I like that The Blossom's are more myth then men... While Archie, Jughead, Veronica, & Betty are allowed full blown nuance to their personalities... And like I said, Madelaine Petsch is nailing this role, she doesn't need a character with many different facets, because she's giving so much life to this almost cartoonish 'Weeping Willow' from 'Bring It On' type chick, so really there's none needed. Meanwhile Archie is going through it, he's having trouble deciding what's more important... Football or music. His new *almost* music mentor that Valerie sent him too, Oscar Castillo (ironically played by Raùl Castillo of HBO's 'Looking' fame) says he cannot give Archie what Ms Grundy gave him. I had a good laugh at that one, as Richie from 'Looking' could totally give Archie all that and more... But let me stay focused. We're almost through this. Archie decides that he can do both, but captain is off the table, and gives Jason's old jersey to Penelope at the service... To which Penelope responds as freakishly as possible... Even adding a little stroke for good measure. Oh it's going to be juicy AF when The Blossom's secrets are put on blast, they've obviously got them in spades. Betty continues on her sleuthing mission with Jughead, creeping around the Blossom mansion and making the most of her visit... The weirdness continues as The Blossom Grandmother wheels from a dark corner of the room and mistakes Betty for her sister Polly. Polly's relationship and it's serious nature comes to light as Grandma Blossom reveals that a family heirloom was handed down to Polly. Jason & Polly were seriously involved and Hal Cooper, Polly & Betty's father, stepped in and either separated the two or... Something even more sinister (but as a long time viewer of PLL, I'm totally ready for a logical explanation that just leads to more questions). They deduce that whoever stole & tore down Sheriff Keller's case files wasn't at the drive-in, because that's when it all went down. All roads are leading back to Betty's father, Hal, who was obviously the one who destroyed the original evidence and murder board. The show isn't ambiguous in letting us know as it cuts to Hal literally holding one of the files. More juicy secrets to mull over for another week! Another great episode in the books for Riverdale, slightly different tonally, and the pace has definitely taken a hit, but it all works... It all still embraces that iconic look, sound, and feel that 'Riverdale' continues to coin as its own.
