Avery stares up at the hero. A licensee in action, costume and all: kicking down doors, saying one-liners. All to save her from... no one anymore. From anyone to begin with, if Thea is telling the truth.
In what should be a moment of relief comes an onslaught of questions. Worried questions. Spawned by her habit of blurring past one catastrophe in search of the next. Am I going to have to pay a bill or something? How much does a rescue even cost? Shit, this is my first year paying taxes. Are rescues tax-deductible?
Avery doesn't ask any of those, opting to keep them prisoner within her oxygen starved mind. She sucks in an unsteady breath. "Why did it take you so long to get here? Is the ambulance close?"
Scrypher moves her head, but barely: a centimeter up and to the right. She probably has a clock in here. "No. It's only been five minutes since you made the call and we were on-site within three; that's more than acceptable." Scrypher says, reaching a hand into the breast of her trench coat. "Medics will arrive momentarily. Before they do, could you tell me who's hiding behind that desk with you?"

There's really a game series out there that's the zany child of early cinema giant *thing* movies, '50s alien movies, a dash of starship troopers, and a healthy helping of kaiju films- all wrapped up in a coop shooter with 100% dedication to just being silly and fun and no one knows about it.
Play EDF already.
Play it.
This is a demand.
Earth Defense Force 4.1 is like 20 bucks when not on sale on every platform and steam and it's a perfect title.
Earth Defense Force 5 is on sale plenty and is the current epitome of the series (available in the west)
EDF6 is out in Japan and coming to the west soon and looks astoundingly fun.
If you have Playstation Plus with the game catalog you LITERALLY HAVE THESE GAMES ALREADY-

Microsoft confirmed for shit taste, they did not add a single EDF game to their pass list.

*= Iron Rain is an interesting and worthwhile spinoff by a western developer. It's certainly worth a try, and has aspects that are better than the core series (such as customization), but this post is about the core main series developed by Sandlot- which the fanbase can pretty confidently claim are the superior titles.
World Brothers is FUN AS HELL but same story and is arguably more of a celebration reference filled game with less meat on its bones.

Ok g/t community, someone NEEDS to make a g/t Minecraft server. For my sake. Just, if I could get (technically) vanilla gameplay with a cool playerbase and awesome builds PLUS having g/t mods and stuff on it so we could have cool interactions AND tiny houses? just. chef's kiss.
If nobody else does it, i'll find a way to do it myself, but on the off-chance that someone more well-versed in how to even make a minecraft server WORK could step in and help? that'd be great.

"The Brothers Sun" And why you should watch it
OKAY SO
This show came out this year. Which means it came out like just a couple days ago. Very new
IT'S FUCKING AMAZING
SO basically
Lemme give you a summary
In Taiwan, there are a bunch of gangs, triads
One of these triads is the Jade Dragons. What makes them special is their secret weapon. That being the Roledex
Every single triad owner uses a fake name, to not be killed or found by the police. "The Roledex" is a person who figured out all the real names of each triad owner. And since they could share this information with the police or anyone else at any time. The Roledex is basically like a gun held to the head of every triad owner, a gun held by the owner of the Jade dragons
Now "The Roledex" is also the wife of the owner of the Jade Dragons. To keep herself, and one of her two sons safe (since she has such sensitive information, a lot of people are out to kill her) she moves out to LA, to keep herself safe.
"But what about the other son?" You ask, noticing that I said "One of her two sons." You've got a keen eye, reader.
The other son, the firstborn son, has been trained to become an assassin by his father since he was 12, and he had his first kill at 14.
He stayed behind in Taiwan as his fathers (who, if you didn't figure it out is the owner of the Jade Dragons) most loyal, and ruthless soldier.
Meanwhile, the secondborn son who moved to LA with his mother knows nothing of his family's life of crime. He's studying to become a doctor, whilst taking improv classes on the side. And that is life for our characters for a while. That is until. The owner of the Jade Dragons gets shot in an assassination attempt. He enters a coma from the wound, and so the firstborn son- whose name is Charles btw- goes out to LA to make sure the rest of his family is safe. After all, their very family motto is "Protect the family". But what happens when Bruce sees his basically long-lost brother for the first time in years? What happens when Bruce sees his long-lost brother and mother work together to dispose of a BODY (Charles got followed from Taipei) Well
