so. woke up this morning to an email notification that the etsy shop i made specifically for EU/UK orders has been suspended.

for reasons they’re not willing to elaborate on besides a vague “violation of etsy terms of service.”

(if it was copyright infringement it would tell me and suspend my listings, not sink the whole shop. i’ve done my best to follow their rules and learn their platform.)

there is no support number i can call. there is no email except through the site, for other issues besides suspension. i can file an “appeal” option through the site, to promise to do better or whatever or say i’ve resolved the issue, but i don’t know what it wants from me and once i send that appeal, whatever decision happening on the other end is final. there’s no do-overs.

“if you think this suspension is in error, please contact the help center” well i do. but im afraid of that not being a solid enough defense.

i’ve already made some sales through etsy, and i have no idea what’s going happens to though. they’re still showing up on my shipping software, but with the comments i’m reading about, will etsy even give me what it owes me? after the “180 days as per policy” of withholding funds is over?

I’m tentatively planning to finally open the enamel pin shop in mid to late August, for anyone still hoping to grab a Ring pin. As for the Dragaux pins—god, I have to make a proper glamour post, but the design is finally ready! The vector file is prepped and ready to be sent to the pin manufacturer. Admittedly, I’m a little nervous about the colors (enamel tends to bake a lot darker or lighter than you think it will), but that’s something I’ll have to slowly iron out with the manufacturer.

(Actually, my rep sent me two, but I determined that this one was more true at representing the enamel colors.) On the left, is the black nickel plating I originally wanted. On the right, is a sample of regular nickel plating that I also asked for. Because I was really, really stressed about the possibility of the black nickel being too mid-toned of a metal. And that wouldn’t have looked too good in this case.

(We are not going forward with the regular nickel. Are you seeing this? The black nickel looks amazing.)

The pin mold also came out fantastic. The one concern I have—that makes me really glad that I asked for samples—is his skin tone. He baked about three shades darker than the Pantone I selected.

These are my notes! I hope they’re legible; if not, well at least they helped me sort my thoughts as I made them.

I knew going into this, that enamel tends to bake darker than you expect it to. Every color I chose (with the exception of pure white) did this. Above, you can see the swabs of color I took from Photo Prime compared to swatches from the original pantones (which are circled and check marked in the middle of the page).

I think the pin looks fine as is. But just a shade lighter in gray creates much better contrast between the enamel and black nickel, and also feels that much closer to Dragaux’s actual skin tone. As illustrated by my edit in the middle rightish of the canvas, I digitally lightened one of the pins to better establish my point.

His eyes also came out much more saturated than I was expecting. Bluer instead of greener. I’m not really sure how to feel about that. It’s not bad. But I was aiming for something a little more subtle, so as not to risk overpowering the pink of his horns.

Am I going to ask for another round of samples? Probably not. But I am going to ask my rep to swap at least one of my pantones for a slightly lighter version.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I might have to push back when the next round of preorders ship by a couple of weeks. But I personally feel a lot better knowing they look this good so far.

i dont think i’ve said this publicly yet—but a big thank you to everyone who sent kind words my way while i was freaking out about the suspension this weekend. i was really torn up about it. i still can’t believe that nightmare lived and died as fast as it did. there’s nowhere else that I know of where you can just, use the platform’s VAT ID like this than on etsy. so it was pretty dire for a minute there.

in hindsight i feel almost silly about despairing as fast as i did, but it feels like there’s always at least a few big things going haywire every time i make and campaign for a pin like this. i try my best, but sometimes it really hits me that so many things are just outside of my control.

until i try to fix or fight them myself, anyways.
