(another post in my Tumblr Anniversary Twaddle series:P)

On 16/02/11 I was invited to join @simsfaq by the always- lovely @pixelpixies. Simsfaq was her brainchild. There were about half a dozen of us who were permanent mods on the site, and a few other Simmers came and went (with varying degrees of success, *cough*) I loved being a part of Simsfaq, and formed strong friendships with @phoenixfg, @ninoochat @simminglystrange and of course @pixelpixies. The workload could be exhausting though...I remember being on holiday in NZ in 2012, and spending 2 or 3 days hunched over my brother-in-law’s laptop trying to get on top of all the questions that constantly poured in! We answered any and all Sims 2 and Sims 3 questions, and I’m very proud of the contribution Simsfaq made to the Simming community on Tumblr during those years. 

We decided to cease answering questions when Sims 4 was launched in September 2014 because we thought the whole community would become Sims 4 focused and obviously none of us had any expertise about fixing Sims 4 game problems. Happily Simsfaq still exists to this day and incredibly still has thousands of followers, and our database is an absolute treasure trove. I still reblog relevant Sims 2 and 3 material including tutorials, resources, game developments, etc. If you want to check it out, here’s the link!

How long have you been playing The Sims?

I’ve been playing The Sims for its entire 21 year life cycle (wow. I just realized how much of my life has included this game in some form or another). Although, to be fair, I was so young when TS1 came out that my haziest memories involve watching my older cousins play it. I remember my mom and I played it together at one point, but I don’t think I was a certified Sims nut yet (too young). Honestly, I just remember that most of my time spent with TS1 involved the Unleashed expansion pack-- I was obsessed with pets in The Sims (to be fair, that hasn’t changed).

How long have you been a simblr, and why did you become one?

I actually had to go back and look, but I’ve been a Simblr for just over a year now :). I used to have one, back in the days of yore, but I never posted anything on it-- it was just to lurk and like things, bc I was so shy. So I guess Gummifish is the only one that counts :). The only reason I have one is the pandemic, and the subsequent lockdown in my country (we’re in another one right now). I was so bored, I ended up revisiting @pixelpixies blog and I decided I wanted to start my own :). I would’ve been a strictly TS2 Simblr (I managed to swipe the UC when Origin was giving it away for free) but my game still isn’t 100% where I want it to be, so I decided to do the LEPacy challenge for TS3 instead :).

Which generation of Sims do you primarily play?

For now (because my TS2 game is a mess) TS3! I’ve played all 4 of them, I own TS2 and TS4 as well-- but (and I’m still kicking myself for this), when TS4 came out, I gave away my TS3 collection (every single EP and a couple of SPs) because I fell for the marketing hype of TS4 (remember when they told us that there would be lots of new interactions/reactions, and the Sims would be way smarter? Hahaaaaaa). Honestly, through playing TS4, I thought I’d just outgrown the franchise. I have everything up to TS4 Seasons. I still can’t manage to play it for more than 20 minutes at a time, and I never actually want to. I decided to repurchase TS3 on Origin to do the LEPacy challenge and have been blown away by how much detail and thought and creativity went into that game.

I still have an extraordinary soft spot for TS2, honestly,  that one is probably my favourite but tbh, TS3 is the one I’ve played the most consistently. I played it with friends in school, and took it with me when I went off to post-secondary. It’s not a perfect game, I recognize that, but just playing through it, you can really tell how much the devs cared and were trying to push the limits and come up with new ideas for this game they loved so much.
