February 10th, 2024.
Mardi Gras in the desert definitely has nothing on actual Carnaval/Carnival celebrations, but the Hurricanes sure were strong.

I can’t believe that, after twelve years of playing Fallout New Vegas, I only just now realized that Goodsprings, Primm and Nipton are real places in Nevada. I mean, I always knew the in-game map was fairly accurate but I guess I assumed all of the towns were made up. Turns out only a couple of them are.

Autobianchi A111, 1969. A small front wheel drive saloon designed by Dante Giacosa. What set the A111 apart was that, like the Primula it replaced, it was one of the first cars to use front wheel drive and a transverse engine with the transmission and clutch mounted left of the motor, which today is almost universally used on all front-wheel drive vehicles. Fiat’s Autobianchi subsidiary was used to try out new technology so they pioneered the use of front wheel drive and transverse engines which Fiat then adopted from the late 60s into the 70s. The 1.4 litre A111 was positioned between Fiat’s 128 and 124 models but was discontinued in 1972 and not replaced

When Paige Overton sang with the cowpunk quartet The Clydesdale, she performed at Brooklyn Bowl and during the Neon Reverb fest, and seemingly every other local venue and event. She has played her share of stages, but few compare to the setup of Blake Shelton’s new country bar and restaurant Ole Red.
“This is definitely different from anything I’ve experienced in this town,” says Overton, who fronts outlaw country band Paige and the Overtones and duo Opal and Turq. “I feel like we’re all kids again. It’s this new, buzzy, fun place and there’s a lot of camaraderie there.”
Overton is one of several local musicians who’ve been invited to play the Strip venue, and the feedback has been resoundingly positive. From the professionally staffed sound and lighting teams to the sprawling stage and lightning-fast stage breakdowns, she regards Ole Red as a true concert venue.
This new, high-profile home for live performance at the heart of the Strip should impact the local country music community, which, despite the popularity of the genre, only plays in a few local venues. Stoney’s Rockin’ Country at Town Square, Gilley’s at Treasure Island and Losers Bar at MGM Grand are among Vegas’ most prominent country bars and lounges.
“I don’t even know if it’s the lack of country bands, but sometimes I think it’s the lack of places that they fit,” Overton says. “I know bands that there’s only a few and far places that really embrace [country] so they have to drive all the way out to Pioneer Saloon to play, or the LeDoux that’s all the way over by Lake Las Vegas.
“I think it may encourage people to step out a little bit, but also it’s a breath of fresh air for people who already play this type of music and have their own little spot in the sun now.”
Ole Red senior talent buyer Marc Feldman says that’s precisely what this venue has set out to do here.
“We’re really giving the opportunity to plant a flag and give country music a home, and give some of the folks who live here, who truly are authentically country, a place to shine,” he says.
A big part of that has been encouraging musicians to play original music rather than what may be popular with Strip crowds. To Feldman, Ole Red is “the proudest stepping stone anyone could have in their career,” and artists are taking that seriously.
Local musician Zach Ryan, who spent eight years in Nashville before returning to Vegas, can attest to that. He often performs his twangy brand of ’60s and ’90s country at Ole Red.
“They treat you there like you’re the talent,” says Ryan. “Some places I’ve played, they’re herding me around and don’t give any breaks. In Nashville, we played about three hours and 45 minutes with no breaks, so someone would have to jump on the drums, which was usually me, while the drummer went to the bathroom.”
Transitioning from the shotgun bars of Nashville to Ole Red has been a “real treat,” he says. “A place like that is a place where you can come as a casual music country fan or a real country fan. It felt a step above Nashville.”
Ryan views Ole Red’s arrival as a sign of the times. He points to Beyoncé releasing Cowboy Carter—“Country music is becoming relevant again, and it’s not your grandpa’s music anymore,” he says. “It’s something young people identify with because so much of it just is talking about everyday problems.”
It’s also incredibly versatile. At Ole Red, Overton can lay on the Waylon Jennings and the Loretta Lynn.
“Sometimes if I’m feeling crazy I’ll even do ‘Stand By Your Man’ from Tammy Wynette, which is sometimes a show suicide because it’s slow, but I don’t give a sh*t,” she says. “It’s fun, and people are usually really into it.
“I hope we see this as a step in the right direction to really embrace more of our musicians in this town, Overton says. “Let’s get the people paid to play and let them do what they love.”

Note
Make your own skinline theme what would be the theme and cost and who are the operators in the line.
Idols specifically to torment Dreamer
I thought about a lot of horny options (because of course I did), but ultimately I settled on old-timey Western skins - the Columbian Pioneer line. Rhodes Island made the mistake of letting Nian direct another set of movies, but at least they got Ling and Pozzy to edit the script this time.
I kind of ran away with this and it got really long, so just pick 5-6 for the actual skin line or assume they're released in sets.
Protagonists:
Sheriff Nearl headlines the skin line, complete with cowboy hat and enormous fake mustache
Deputy Gavial helps Nearl bring in lawbreakers.
Blemishine is the protagonist, a young gun whose journey we follow over the course of the film series.
Whislash is her mentor, the retired gunslinger that passes on her tips and tricks to both Margaret and Maria. Can frequently be found drunk at the bar in the town saloon.
Allies:
Gladiia, Horn, and Bagpipe are Columbian military officers assigned to occupy the territory and keep the peace and provide manpower to the protagonists when necessary.
Mountain is a wealthy rancher with political connections back in more settled areas who comes into frequent conflict with SilverAsh over the latter's efforts to expand his influence. Saria is his bodyguard. Croissant and Exusiai are his ranch hands.
Swire is the daughter of a Senator and Mountain's childhood friend. She's the one he sends a telegram to when SilverAsh is causing too much trouble. Swire insisted that her character be married to Ch'en's before she would participate/help bankroll the film.
Ch'en wanted nothing to do with this nonsense, but was eventually bullied/cajoled into taking her (relatively small) part. Nearly throttled all three of Swire, Closure, and Nian when they tried to shoehorn her into a shower scene.
Tomimi barged into one of the planning meetings and demanded a part that let her be close to Gavial, so Nian made her the town barber and Gavial's wife. Tomimi initially demanded at least one explicit and fully method-acted sex scene between her and Gavial per movie, but casting director Shining managed to negotiate her down to making out with tongue.
Penance plays the Hanging Judge. She keeps correcting Nian's ideas about how the legal system works.
Antagonists:
SilverAsh is the wealthy railroad baron from back East, and the backer of the various troublemakers Nearl/Gavial/Blemishine have to contend with early on. He's the ultimate antagonist.
Degenbrecher is his personal gun-for-hire, the fastest gun in the west, who Margaret faces down in a climactic shootout at the end of the series. For added bonus points, she's the one that retired Whislash.
Matterhorn and Courier are more of SilverAsh's hired gunslingers.
Chongyue plays the corrupt territorial governor in SilverAsh's pocket. He asked if he could have a part to help Nian out. Closure agreed on the condition that he get at least one shirtless scene to drive sales.
Hoshiguma is the leader of the legendary Oni Gang, a group of outlaws that also includes "Deadeye" Schwarz, Specter "The Shark" Laurentina, Lappland "The Executioner" Saluzzo, and Indra "El Tigre" Jackson. All five of them are having the time of their lives hamming it up as villains.
Passenger is an arms dealer who hired a group of mercenaries to start skirmishes on the frontier to drum up business. W is the leader of those mercenaries. The heroes have to hunt them down before they manage to start a full-fledged war.
Townsfolk:
Mlynar once served in the army, retired, and now owns and runs the town's general store. He disapproves of his nieces' decision to become gunfighters and voices that opinion frequently.
Kal'tsit is the owner of the town saloon and the madam of the attached brothel. She frequently has to be reminded to deliver her lines as written and not... expand upon them.
Blaze is the saloon's bartender/bouncer. She was not permitted access to real alcohol during filming.
Skadi plays a dancer/singer at the saloon. She took the part to get the Doctor's attention and then immediately regretted it when she saw the dress that Nian and Closure expected her to wear. Forceful negotiation from both her and Gladiia convinced the costume department to provide her with clothing that is unlikely to cause a wardrobe malfunction during filming.
Elysium plays the classic hooker with a heart of gold and has to be frequently reminded that ratings agencies do not consider full frontal male nudity acceptable for the films' intended audience.
Franka plays another one of the brothel's working ladies and keeps asking the costuming department if she can show more cleavage.
Liskarm is a Pinkerton detective who swings by town to spend her wages on Franka with considerable regularity.
Saileach is the local schoolmarm. The kids at Rhodes Island play her students.
Eunectes serves as the local blacksmith. There may or may not be a budding romance between her and Blemishine.
Executor plays the town preacher and takes his assigned role very seriously.

things about vegas trip that 99% of people would not think is interesting:
nevada does not have painted lane divider lines on the roads, just groups of the reflector things
vegas is one of the only places in the usa still producing new neon signs because it's The Culture
even shit like denny's, walgreens, in n out burger have neon on their signs
we drove around 3 states and saw maybe 3 churches in total. in florida i can walk to 3 churches from my house.
don't ever try to rent a car in vegas during march madness and spring break.
saw a surprisingly small amount of cops around ? like there was one sat in a ghost town in california. not many around vegas. in florida they're practically wildlife.
the desert is fucken wimdy
all state line signs have places on the road to pull off onto to get pictures.
i-15 is the easiest highway i've been on and we were like wow we will NEVER have it this good again. (our regular highway is 75 and it's fucking bullshit)
50% of all cars in vegas have california plates
there is a fallout new vegas day every year at the pioneer saloon in goodsprings.
the pioneer saloon in goodsprings also has a mini fallout musem full of things left by visitors and two full guestbooks of messages written by people. i drew a little trans flag by someone's thing saying "[you have become addicted to estrogen]"
there is a billboard on the strip that currently says some bullshit about repenting for your sins. in las vegas. which is nicknamed sin city. on the big touristy road chock full of casinos.
there are quick marriage places everywhere. a fucking denny's has one. i Will be posting the sign on qualitysigns.
they got slot machines at the airport
the luxor is a static electricity factory
at hoover dam they have restrooms like out on the actual top of the dam. the men's is on the nevada side and the women's is on the arizona side.
boulder city, closest town to the dam, has like 75847385 businesses that are like "the best dam x"
the shortest toilets in the fucking world, that are not intentionally designed that way, are in the chevron gas station in primm, nevada.
The Lottery Store on the state line was closed and there were many people passing through who were all gutted it was closed. nevada does not have a lottery (because the casinos don't want more competition), so people go to california for it.
i think [big redacted work client here in florida] is stealing ideas from the Downtown Container Park.
someone is putting googly eyes on a bunch of signs.
they sell booze and booze milkshakes at the fast food places in the casinos.
we got dirt samples from a bunch of different places we visited and it was all completely different dirt
i took a rock from hoover dam and it flagged my bag at TSA. the guy was like "oh it's a rock lol ok you can go"
i took fucking 1400 photos. i do not have that many irl photos on my pc COMBINED

Rhyolite Valley Inspirations/References
I wrote about this earlier, but it was right before leaving for work so I didn’t have time to gather all my sources. I know walls of text aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, so this is the picture version :P
If I don’t mention a specific sim/lot it’s because I didn’t use any references to make it. Either way, both my ideas with and without references were filtered through self-imposed limitations to keep everything in line with the hood’s themes (wild west, grungy/ramshackle, self-sufficient, isolated, etc.)
Also my plan is never to do a perfectly identical recreation of the image I’m referencing, it’s just a foundation for developing my own concept.
Also also, if it’s not from a video game I found it on Google lol
