Propaganda for Cream Ball Cookie: He is a pro basketballer who attended the Sports Event to achieve greater status. But instead of status, he achieves something else; a new best friend (Cherry Ball Cookie) and a new love interest (Choco Ball Cookie), of which he then knows that he doesn't have to be on some pedestal to be loved, he can be loved just by understanding and feeling compassion towards others, that way he can still be loved even out of the spotlight.
Propaganda for Pimento Cheese Cookie: Captain of the Cheese Spread Pirates, she was once the daughter of Golden Cheese Cookie and the princess of the Golden Cheese Kingdom, burdened by strict standards. Despite those standards, she managed to befriend almost every cookie in the kingdom, such as Mozzarella Cookie, Smoked Cheese Cookie, and even Burnt Cheese Cookie. It was only when Pimento Cheese Cookie noticed her stash of gold for her debt was becoming low and decided to sneak out of the kingdom, with the other cookies in the kingdom covering for her. But alas, how could one cover for her sneaking away when the kingdom has already bitten the dust? When she came back with her crew, and her new ally/love interest: Goblin Cookie, she learned what really happened to the kingdom while she was gone. At least, in the end, she and Golden Cheese Cookie, her mom, had a reunion that ended well.

tagged by @brella HEY PAL while sat eating contraband and reading at the reference desk so let's do it
3 Ships: there are so many. ok: obi-wan/cody for the serious adult/serious adult content my heart craves, apollo/klavier because i LOVE an anxious weirdo and what's better than 1 anxious weirdo?? and finally peter/harriet on account of all the heyer mysteries i've been reading and there are some good and fun romances in them but truly nobody did it like peter and harriet.
First Ship Ever: i have forgotten the specifics of the chronology of my youth. Nancy Drew & Ned Nickerson or Anne Shirley & Gilbert Blythe, likely. han & leia also, possibly. i watched the original trilogy straight through on a snow day so i wasn't left in suspense about them for very long but i did very very badly want it to happen. the first ship i ever read fic for, however, was mulder & scully.
Last Song: the Glass Onion score while doing some research, but i currently have Transgender Dysphoria Blues by Against Me! playing on a loop in my head (not a complaint)
Last Movie: watched Invitation to a Murder last night after finding it on a wikipedia list of films set in the 1930s. i have been reading almost exclusively books written and set in the 30s and i just wanted to see it. i like the unpretentious nature of tv movies so an american-made straight-to-streaming take on a Christie country house mystery should have been right up my alley but mostly i was bothered by how wrong the breakfast service was.
Currently Reading: just finished one heyer (A Blunt Instrument) and immediately started another (No Wind of Blame)
Currently Watching: nothing. i am very weird about tv.
Currently Consuming: just finished the contraband (a peanut butter cup cookie from the cafe)
Currently Craving: it's still fucking pimento cheese

For Veganuary, some of my favorite vegan foods!
As a general rule, I use canned or frozen veggies in all of these. They’re cheaper, they last longer, and you don’t have to do any chopping (which is especially convenient when it comes to onions). The only exceptions are mushrooms and potatoes.
Rice!
I cook it with veggie broth (or a vegan chicken flavored broth), garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.
Before I set it to simmer, I dump in a bag of frozen veggies (I like mixed veggies or spinach) or fresh veggies (I like mushrooms) and throw in a can of chickpeas for good measure
Right after it’s done, I stir in some vegan cheese if I have it. I usually do about a cup of cheese when I make a big pot and that’s plenty.
Dirty Rice
Pasta!
To stretch mac and cheese, melt some vegan butter in the pot, add your unsweet dairy free milk, then add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and whatever seasonings you want. Bring it to a boil and then whisk in enough flour to get it to a gravy-like consistency. then add your dairy free cheese--you’ll only need half as much.
Garlic Butter Pasta
Chickpea “Tuna” Casserole
Alfredo
I like to add red bell pepper or spinach to a mozzarella mac and cheese; peas or meatless crumbles to a cheddar mac and cheese.
For tomato sauce, I just use a can of crushed tomato with salt, garlic and onion powder, italian seasoning, and a bit of balsamic vinegar. Spinach and mushrooms go well with this, too.
Some of my top recipes
Biscuit Topped Chickpea Pot Pie (takes a while but so worth it!)
Tabbouleh (I usually add chickpeas to make it heartier)
Corn Fritters (I just throw in whatever veggies I have on hand)
Biscuits and Gravy (I usually add some fake sausage to the gravy to make it more filling)
Split Pea Soup
Hummus and Pita (This isn’t real pita, but it’s close and much easier. Of course you can always just buy it at the store, too.)
Potato Wedges
Refried Bean Burgers
Burritos (No recipe, but I fill mine with refried beans, spanish rice--the little knorr packets are vegan!--taco sauce, and mexican style dairy free cheese)
Nachos (No recipe, but I top mine with black beans, a vegan cheese sauce, salsa, and black olives)
Pancakes
Desserts are easy--just sub out dairy-free milk and dairy-free butter. Or search for vegan versions of your favorites!
Cinnamon Rolls
Banana Bread Cinnamon Rolls
Orange Rolls
Sprinkle Sugar Cookies
Rolled Sugar Cookies
Double Chocolate Chip Cookies
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Vanilla Pudding
Chocolate Pudding
Lots of stovetop pudding mixes are vegan--just use non-dairy milk!
Vanilla Cake
Chocolate Cake
Coffee Cake
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
Banana Nice Cream
Frozen Pineapple Whip
Vegan Egg Substitutes for Baking
Cheese - I buy raw cashews in bulk from foodtolive--shipping is free, tax is included, and the price is very reasonable. I eat cashew cheese every day so I usually get the 7lb bag and keep it in the bottom of my fridge.
Easy Cheese Sauce (no cashews)
Go-to Cashew Cheese (This is a great base! Sometimes I add tomato paste and hot sauce for a buffalo cheese, or sometimes I go heavy on the lemon juice and add dried dill and parsley).
Pimento Cheese
Sundried Tomato Cheese

Since it seems like you'd appreciate some grandparent food stories
My grandmother was a truly spectacular cook most of the time. She had a potato recipe so complex the family, who never agreed on anything, quietly removed the dish from the holiday menu once she was no longer capable of making it. It was replaced by my aunt's pureed cauliflower potato blend, to my eternal chagrin. Grandma also made egg nog from scratch, and not getting her to teach me is a big regret. Sister and I would go to her house every December and help make Christmas cookies - spritz, pralines, sand tarts
When she and my grandpa were first married, she was advised to make a pie from scratch every day because "that's what men want" this lasted a week and then her husband opened the fridge and pointed out that they had far too many barely eaten pies
But she loved pimento cheese spread so much. She thought it was a party essential. I tried it at 6 yrs old and thought it was the grossest possible thing, but I have a feeling you'd appreciate her pimento cheese sandwich fingers and if I ever find the recipe I'll send it your way :)
I am always down for grandparent (or other) food stories!
I think about "lost recipes" like those all the time - the one that comes immediately to mind is my maternal uncle's manicotti, which my mom raved over whenever it would come up but which was not very straightforward or easy to make apparently. Also, because my grandma was both a "cook" and a "baker" whereas my mom has said she is more of just a "cook", a lot of those recipes didn't really migrate down either.
(and now I'm curious about the potato recipe and the eggnog! for them to be so well-regarded :D)
That "make a pie every day" thing sounds exactly like the kind of advice that would be given, and I can only think of how many servings of pie there must have been just sitting around at that point!
Please, if you ever do find that pimeno cheese sandwich fingers recipe, definitely send it to me! I would love to try and make it :D

Please folks… I understand the intention, kindness and such…
PLEASE DO NOT try to push people to eat if they say no.
You don’t know if it’s diet, or food too hot it’ll affect the person’s core temp if they do, allergies, faith (of pork for example.)
••••••
I say this because I refused supper at a VBS while waiting to get photos. (hot food when I know it’ll affect me - found out with hot coffee).
They kept pestering me to a point I’m - thankfully - mildly overloaded.
I even refused no bake oatmeal cookies, which I love, because of the push on the a sandwich.
It also made me nauseous when I smelled pico de gallo and peppers.
My supper is cool and refreshing (pimento cheese wrap and imitation crab sticks) but the push had never push back so hard I’m having to wait until the overload calms down.
••••••
Folks, please just respect a refusal for food/drink/etc. It isn’t an insult… if someone refuses there are reasons.

French Truck Coffee, 650 Poydras St, New Orleans (Warehouse District), LA 70130
Tumblr media
French Truck Coffee has 11 locations in NOLA, one more than Starbucks. They roast their beans in small batches for freshness. They even have pour over coffee! And New Orleans iced coffee. The locations have a polished feel. They have more options than Starbucks. The owner was inspired by a bag of coffee his cousin brought from San Francisco.
Pastries include cookies, muffins, croissants and cake slices. They also have a breakfast menu (toast, granola, waffles) and lunch menu (sandwiches, salads, quinoa bowl, soup). For drinks, they have cold brew, hot and cold coffee drinks, drip coffee, cold brew, pour over coffee, and tea.
Avocado toast ($6): crushed red pepper, pickled onion, avocado mash. The avocado was bitter and I didn’t like how hard the toast was (they used focaccia bread and it was very crunchy and dry)
Pimento toast ($6 or 2 for $11): homemade pimento cheese, chopped bacon, tomato salad on the side. Didn’t like the bread again (too toasted). The spread was super tangy and the tomato salad was tangy too.
Cappuccino: The cappuccino seemed pretty good, with decent foam art and a bitter edge, good fruity notes.
The place had a pleasant, cheerful feel: Floor to ceiling windows, ceiling fans, wood tables, white chairs, blue tiles, pops of yellow (signs, cups, coffee bags), and plants. They sell coffee beans, tote bags, mugs, t-shirts, hats, and even cold brew pods.

Coach's Note:
It is always a good idea to arrive early and do the warmup and all exercises in the sequence scheduled. That is especially true today since this involves a lot of SHOULDER work. Athletes are advised to use weights that they can easily handle for all the reps in unbroken sets. This is not your day for PR's.
Another absolutely perfect afternoon at the Barn.

Cool-Down:
Wine and snacks around the picnic table. It was a perfect evening.
We had at least 15 assorted bottles of wine brought to the picnic table. A few were left for the next time.
Foods brought were in the extreme category. I always fear having to list them because I cannot remember foods and who brought them without error. But I'll try: Kayla brought a huge casserole of Ziti pasta/ meat, and cheeses. Shannon brought a "To Die For Dessert". There were a few bites left that she took home for Armando. There were fresh peppers and veggies with Hummus, a couple different popcorns, fruits, nuts, home made cookies, Chic Fil A Nuggets galore, and Mr Butler produced bags of Chic fil A pimento chicken sandwiches. There must be stuff that I am missing.
We never had Thursday's quite like these before Alicia returned from Pittsburg and we recruited Kayla from the California Hustler's Gym. Believe it or not, I think the atmosphere is much more sedate and cordial, and the food is hugely improved. At least 2 things are the result of having more GIRLS: better foods and better behavior. But sometimes I miss the drunks trying to leap over the fire-ring, and coming up to the house and falling through a glass table and not realizing I was hemorrhaging to death until Miss Linda unquestioningly served my morning coffee under said table.
Did anyone spot Faith (The Kid) meticulously listing the WOD in chalk on the mat she was using? Did you know that if a parent can't bring her, she rides her bike from home? There is no adult who comes here who has a more serious attitude than The Kid. In 3 years when she is 14 yo we will have a CrossFit Games Teen Champ on our hands. Many thanks to Coach Butler for working with her. I know he loves it.
Holley and Jackie returned after many months un-excused absence. Why do girls always get insulted when the near 80 yo Coach can't remember their names after a 6 months absence? Maybe that's not the fault of my memory.
Saturday at 0730 and 0930. It will be Kayla's 1 Year anniversary and 10 on-line romances since first coming to LHCF. The only appropriate way to celebrate would be to have a crew of male strippers come sing the Happy-Happy Anniversary song. After today, I promise to quit giving Kayla so much free advertisement in this blog.
Also, Rosh Hashanah may interfere with attendance. We cover all the news that's fit to print.
