Treinei bordado com Pascal Jaouen, Caroline Gamb e Nicolas Jover, com Dominique Pilliard para plumasserie (trabalho de penas) e Marion Seranne para styling. O fio condutor da minha abordagem artística assenta no objetivo de dar vida à arte têxtil, de trabalhar a transversalidade das artes na forma de simbiose interdisciplinar. A minha prática desenvolve-se numa dinâmica que defino como “maximalista”, saturação, excesso de cores e informações que amplificam os sentimentos. Duas linhas de pesquisa surgiram: arte vestível e iconografia têxtil.”

“I am very attracted to anthropological debates and folk art and craft traditions, my curiosity has led me to develop specific skills in connection to these themes of interest to me, and towards combining fine art, textile art and anthropology. I trained in embroidery with Pascal Jaouen, Caroline Gamb and Nicolas Jover, with Dominique Pilliard for plumasserie (feather work) and Marion Seranne for styling. The main thread of my artistic approach is based on the goal of bringing textile art to life, to work on the transversality of the arts in the form of interdisciplinary symbiosis. My practice is developed on a dynamic that I define as “maximalist”, saturation, an excess of colours and information that amplifies feelings. Two lines of research have emerged: wearable art and textile iconography.”

The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit affirmed the dismissal of Benghazi- inspired litigation

Sean Smith and Tyrone Woods tragically perished in the September 11, 2012, attacks on United States facilities in Benghazi, Libya. Their parents, Patricia Smith and Charles Woods, sued former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for common-law torts based on her use of a private email server in conducting State Department affairs while Secretary of State and public statements about the cause of the attacks she made in her personal capacity while a presidential candidate. They appeal the substitution of the United States as the defendant on the claims involving the email server and the dismissal of their complaint for lack of subject matter jurisdiction and failure to state a claim. We affirm.

The court found that the various proposed causes of action either failed to state a claim or lacked subject matter jurisdiction

“An allegedly defamatory remark must be more than unpleasant or offensive; the language must make the plaintiff appear odious, infamous, or ridiculous.” Id. (internal quotation marks and citation omitted).

Clinton has made no such remarks here. In the ABC News interview, she contradicted Smith and Woods’s version of events but did not state or imply they were lying, instead noting she “underst[ood] [their] continuing grief.” Compl. ¶ 23(a). And in the Conway Daily Sun interview, it was the reporter, not Clinton, who posits someone is lying; all Clinton did was deny that she was lying. Id. ¶ 23(b). In the two subsequent interviews, Clinton bolstered her own version of events by noting that others present at the meeting supported her account and suggesting reasons why her recollection differed from that of Smith and Woods. Id. ¶ 23(c) and (d). Clinton did state that Ms. Smith was “absolutely wrong,” id. ¶ 23(c), but disagreeing with another person’s recollection does not necessarily imply that the other person is lying.

The appellants were represented by Larry Klayman. Secretary Clinton was represented by David Kendall. Jessie K. Liu represented the United States.

The per curiam opinion was signed by associate Judges Rogers, Millett and Pilliard. (Mike Frisch)

Dan Lenard, the co-founder of the renowned Italian yacht design firm Nuvolari-Lenard, departed on his daring adventure: a transatlantic crossing departing on January 20th from Cadiz, Spain and arriving at the Miami Boat Show around February 14th. Ulysse Nardin will be present as one of the main sponsors. Dan’s company specializes in the design of yachts for both private clients and shipyards. Based near Venice, the studio has created some of the world’s most acclaimed superyachts, winning every major award and becoming both prolific and highly sought-after yacht designers.

The aim of his journey is to raise awareness for the plight of the seas. Dan Lenard chose sailing, a 5000-year-old invention, because it is one of the modes of transport that were used by humans to explore the Earth. Today, his voyage is bearing witness to how polluted the seas and coastlines have become. Ulysse Nardin is proud to endorse Dan Lenard’s mission, which he has called “Vela-Code”. For this new Ulysses, this journey is a “distress signal on behalf of the ocean”, calling for a need to reset how we treat our environment. We need focused initiatives, for both prevention and cure: prevention, through intelligent design of yachts and through education to highlight activities and behaviours that cause damage; cure, by taking responsibility for what we have done and devoting resources to repair the damage.

Dan Lenard joins the Ulysse Nardin Armada of Explorers formed by free-diver and photographer Fred Buyle, sailors Sébastien Destremau and Romain Pilliard, snowboarder and surfer Mathieu Crépel and kite-surfing champion Alex Caizergues. Like the hero of Homer’s “Odyssey”, these modern-day Ulysses throw themselves into adventure, not afraid of the unknown and of the possible obstacles, following their dreams and ambitions.

Dan’s true challenge on this journey is the fact that he is alone on his 33-foot-long sailboat, SCIA, without equipment such as an engine, any electronics, GPS, log, compass or autopilot. Dan’s only gear will be the watch on his wrist, a Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronometer Great White, that will accompany him on his mission.

The Vela-Code mission has set up two accounts, Instagram @vela.code and a Facebook page, Vela-page. SCIA is equipped with a tracker/beacon that will signal Dan’s position every hour throughout the voyage. While Dan can’t chart his progress via this device, his audience can. The shore team will update the project’s social media sites and the website will display his progress from data received via the beacon. From 20th of January until around the 5th February, Dan will be out of contact with the world, until he reaches the Carribeans. A voyage with a mission, a call to raise awareness, an adventure for the free-spirited.
