Sonic Cyber Revolution, Entry 3: The Awakening
''Watch me rule the night away! Watch me save the day! Feel my storm is getting close, headed your way!''
– Sonic Heroes by Sonic Heroes (NateWantsToBattle Cover)
xXxXxXx
Sonic stood across of Metal Sonic, observing the latter. Despite his earlier surprise of seeing a robotic version of himself, he took the existence of Metal Sonic in stride. He may have been a metal copy of himself, but he was also just another ARNav. If he wanted to fight, Sonic was not only going to accept the challenge, but also defeat him, being confident that he could handle his metal counterpart.
Metal Sonic, on the other hand, just glared at his counterpart. He had been observing the hedgehog ever since he found him, making it his goal to personally annihilate the hedgehog. He felt that Sonic's existence was an insult to his own existence, that Sonic was just an inferior copy to himself. There could be only one Sonic and Metal Sonic would be the one to stand at the top.
''Let's see if you can keep up with me,'' Sonic said, using his super speed to charge at Metal Sonic. Metal Sonic activated his jet-engine propulsion system, dodging Sonic attack, then appeared right behind the latter just as Sonic turned around and punched him square in the chest. Sonic staggered back, but then charged back at Metal, who ducked, turning on his heel and attempting to kick Sonic. Sonic managed to block the attack this time by crossing his arms and attempted to punch back, only for Metal Sonic to hover back, crossing his arms, the inside of his chest charging up and the firing a beam of energy at Sonic, hitting the latter.
''Sonic!''
Sonic was knocked over, the ground around him cracking up. He could hear Lucas crying out for him in concern. He knew that he needed to get up and fight back, despite the fact that his whole body was aching. He got up, breathing heavily, with Metal Sonic preparing for another attack.
''Well, I guess this answered my question. Congratulations,'' Sonic said, chuckling and fist-pumping. ''Ready for Round 2?''
Metal Sonic lowered his head, a little disappointed that Sonic didn't go down so easily. Still, he would prove himself.
Meanwhile, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Silver surrounded the lizard Irregular, who was turning to each of them, trying to keep an eye on everyone. The absorbed BioEnergy surrounding him crackled, with the four keeping their distance.
''Okay, here's the rundown!'' Tails said, glancing at his friends. ''Don't make any physical contact with the Irregular, else you'll get paralyzed. Silver, use your power to give us cover. The Irregular may be able to crack your barriers, but I think that keeping it on a smaller scale should be enough to protect us.''
''Got it!'' Silver nodded.
''We need to keep him busy long enough until he runs out of BioEnergy,'' Tails added, holding up a device, the Miles Electric, which he used the read the levels of BioEnergy the Irregular emitted. They were still high, but lower than the initial read displayed when they arrived at Eden.
The lizard Irregular snorted, sounding a little amused. ''I'll defeat all of you before that happens!''
''We will take you down!'' Knuckles exclaimed, charging at the Irregular, about to punch him.
Silver pointed his hands at Knuckles, enveloping him in a cyan aura. The Irregular attempted to swipe at Knuckles, but the latter ducked and leapt again, hitting the lizard square in the chest. This was followed by Amy, also enveloped in a cyan aura, appearing right above the lizard.
''You won't beat us!'' Amy slammed the Piko Piko Hammer down at the Irregular's head, causing him to smash right into the ground, cracking it up. The lizard, however, managed to use his tail to swipe at her, but Silver quickly moved Amy away from harm, placing her down on the ground. Tails glanced at the Miles Electric, smiling in satisfaction when he saw that the BioEnergy levels went even lower.
As long as we keep attacking him, we'll be able to take him out. Tails reached for his backpack, taking out his boomerang, glancing at Silver. ''We need to keep him occupied. Once the BioEnergy levels have lowered enough, I'll be able to restrain him.''
''Sounds like a good plan,'' Silver said, then flew up, creating a barrier around the Irregular. The lizard smashed through it, only to slam into another barrier Silver had put up. The Irregular snarled, clawing through it, only to be surrounded by one more. Silver could sense every punch, every slash at the barriers, which drained his own energy. However, he managed to keep his focus, seeing Tails flying towards the lizard, his Miles Electric out. Suddenly, multiple copies of Tails appeared all over the field, surrounding the Irregular just as he broke through Silver's last barrier.
''Let's see whether you'll be able to deal with this!'' Tails said.
''You little- I'll eat you alive!'' The lizard Irregular started swiping at the copies, all illusions of Tails, too distracted to notice Knuckles, Amy and the real Tails creeping up from a blind corner. Silver, who floated above them, enveloped the three in cyan aura.
''Now!'' Silver yelled, with Knuckles, Amy and Tails charging at the Irregular. Knuckles punched him from below, while Amy slammed the Piko Piko Hammer from behind, and Tails threw his boomerang from above – all of their attacks boosted by Silver's psychokinesis.
This attack had managed to bring the lizard Irregular down to his knees, leaving him shaking. Tails looked at the Miles Electric, grinning, and took out a bunch of yellow and grey metallic devices, throwing them at the lizard. The devices linked by emitting an energy beam, which wrapped around the lizard, pinning him down to the ground.
All four of them landed on the ground, observing the lizard, who tried to escape his restraints, but was unable to do so. Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Silver exchanged glances, with Knuckles stepping up.
''I declare this a victory for us!''
The four cheered, joined by their partners. The teenage girl from before was leaned against a tree, arms crossed as she observed the little celebration, smirking. She had to admit, their teamwork was impressive. However, she did notice that Lucas wasn't among the ones celebrating, as he was focused on the ongoing battle between Sonic and Metal Sonic.
Speaking of said battle, Sonic had managed to get the upper hand over Metal Sonic, pinning him against the ground, only for his eyes to widen when Metal Sonic started to charge up for another laser beam. Fortunately, Sonic dodged this one, leaping to the side and using her super speed to escape the energy beam. Metal Sonic then flew at Sonic, trying to catch the latter. Sonic dodged Metal Sonic's attempt at punching him and curled into a ball, spin-dashing right into his robotic counterpart, knocking the latter away. Sonic then leapt back, landing in a three-point stance and looking at Metal Sonic.
''Not bad, Metal Me, but your toy laser beam is still too slow for me,'' Sonic taunted his metallic counterpart. Metal Sonic's eyes started to glow and he took the same three-point stance as Sonic, much to the hedgehog's surprise. ''Uh, what are you doing?'' As Sonic got up, Metal Sonic also got up. Sonic put his arms on his hips, and Metal Sonic put his arms on his hips. Sonic then crossed his arms, with Metal Sonic crossing his arms as well. Sonic rose an eyebrow in confusion. ''Why are you mimicking me?''
Metal Sonic didn't answer, but he continued copying Sonic's every move. Sonic smiled, deciding to have some fun with this, and started to do several poses, including standing on the tip of his toe like a ballerina, making faces at Metal Sonic and waving his hands. As predicted, Metal Sonic followed his every move, with Sonic laughing at some of the more stupid poses Metal Sonic made, only to suddenly have to dodge another laser beam fired by Metal Sonic, managing to avoid it in the last second. Metal Sonic tilted his head, all of his earlier goofiness having vanished.
''Oh, boy… Let me guess, this was supposed to make me let my guard down,'' Sonic said, dodging another laser beam. He then leapt again, as more laser beams followed; weaker than the ones before, but faster. ''I should've figured that.''
Metal Sonic then stopped firing, switching over to his jet propulsion and charging after Sonic. The two clashed several times, spin-dashing into each other, both equal and both too fast for the naked eye to keep track of them. Every time they clashed, dust and wind swirled around them, their last clash ending up with their heads against each other, trying to push their opponent back.
''For every move you have, I will find a counter!'' Sonic told him, only for his ears to twitch when he heard Metal Sonic charging up. Before he could get away, Metal Sonic grabbed his arms and then fired a laser beam point-blank at Sonic, sending him flying, then charged once again at Sonic, knocking him down into the lake below them.
''Sonic!'' Lucas cried out, drawing everyone's attention to the battle and the fact that there were only a few bubbles on the surface of the water, Metal Sonic hovering above it and waiting for Sonic to emerge. He didn't.
Suddenly, Lucas ran towards the lake, ignoring the screams of his friends and pulling up his AR Visor to shield his eyes and jumped right into the water, all of his senses screaming as he realized that the water was freezing. However, he kept swimming down, thankful for the AR Visor being waterproof and managing to find Sonic sinking down, his eyes closed. He grabbed Sonic's arm and started swimming upwards, but that was harder than he thought. Not only was he trying to pull Sonic up, but his own clothes, now soaked, were pulling him down like weights. He felt his lungs searing, aware that he was running out of air.
It can't end like this… Lucas felt dizzy, placing his hand over his mouth to prevent himself from exhaling and flailing his legs as he tried to swim upwards, but his progress was painfully slow. Bubbles escaped his mouth, his limbs cold and numb. His lungs were screaming for air as he realized that he was going to drown. He once again tugged at Sonic's arm, pulling him up and trying to push him up, feeling Sonic stirring. His vision turned black as he felt his energy being drained, floating in the cold water.
Suddenly, an electric blue light orb appeared between Sonic and Lucas, emitting powerful energy which enveloped both of them.
xXx
''Lucas!''
''Sonic!''
Warren and Tails cried out for their friends, horrified when they realized that they weren't going resurface. They charged towards the lake, only to be stopped by a laser beam fired by Metal Sonic, who was determined to prevent anyone from helping the two. However, before the two could make another move, they saw an electric blue light coming from the lake, with something flying out of it at supersonic speed, something covered in a blue energy, and hitting Metal Sonic.
To their shock, the blue energy revealed itself to be Sonic and Lucas, both fine. Sonic was covered in blue electricity that was sparking around him, his green eyes now glowing dark blue. Lucas was covered in a sparking blue aura, his icy blue eyes having turned the same colour as Sonic's. Both were focused solely on Metal Sonic, both of them having stern looks on their expressions.
Metal Sonic was frustrated to see Sonic again, having hoped that he latter would have drowned. However, he was willing to continue this fight, charging at Sonic once again. Sonic's eyes narrowed as he stared at Metal Sonic, only to suddenly vanish just as Metal Sonic kicked the ground. Appearing right behind Metal Sonic, he grabbed the latter's shoulder, blue electricity sparking all over the robotic hedgehog, affecting his circuits. Sonic then kicked him in the torso, releasing more electricty, then threw him back into the air, spin-dashing into him and releasing all of the accumulated energy. Due to the ensuing explosion, Metal Sonic was sent flying into the horizon, disappearing from Sonic's sight. The group stared at Sonic and Lucas in shock, only for the crackling energy to disappear, with both of them falling on the ground, looking exhausted and confused.
''Wh-What had happened?'' Sonic asked, holding his head.
''I… I have no idea. One minute, I'm in the lake and the next- Achoo!'' Lucas sneezed, shivering. His clothes were still soaked and he could smell the lakewater all over himself. Sonic, on the other hand, shook himself dry, smoothing his quills.
''Sonic!'' Tails tackled the hedgehog, relieved to see him, while Warren went over to Lucas, helping him up. ''You guys had us worried!''
''Heh, I'm sorry about that,'' Sonic replied, grinning as he saw the rest of the group arrive. He looked past them, seeing the Irregular on the ground. ''I see you've done a great job.''
''It was nothing special,'' Amy said.
''Hah, the lizard was no match for us,'' Knuckles bragged.
''Too bad the area got destroyed,'' Silver said, frowning as he saw the broken ground and rosebushes, only to feel a hand on his shoulder. He turned, seeing Makoto giving him a comforting smile.
''Don't worry, things will grow back, especially under our care.''
''I would still like to know what exactly happened to you two,'' Lily said, looking at Sonic and Lucas. Before either of them could answer, they all heard a familiar voice.
''Isn't it obvious? Sonic absorbed Lucas' BioEnergy.''
''Touka?'' Lucas' eyes widened in surprise when he saw Touka Kageura walking up to them. Frankly, she wasn't a stranger to them, especially considering how many times she had appeared over the past two weeks, leaving Lucas to wonder whether she was deliberately following them around. However, they weren't on friendly terms with her either, as Touka wasn't exactly the type of person who would easily warm up to someone. Lucas had actually tried to talk to her a few times, but she would just leave.
''What are you talking about?'' Warren asked.
''Do I really have to repeat myself?'' Touka asked, crossing her arms and earning glares from the rest of the group.
''That's nonsense! Sonic would never do something like that!'' Tails defended his friend. However, Sonic and Lucas exchanged anxious glances, well aware that Touka had a point. Suddenly, they heard sirens, realizing that someone had called the authorities.
''Guys, I think we should go now,'' Lucas said, drawing everyone's attention. ''I don't want to stay here and explain to the Irregular Hunters what had happened.''
''How about meeting up at the workshop?'' Warren suggested. ''There, we can go over what had happened.''
''Sounds like a good idea to me,'' Lucas said, with the rest agreeing.
xXx
''So, can we agree that the prediction had indeed come true?'' Minami asked.
''It depends on who the shadow that was looming over Eden was – the Irregular or Sonic's metallic counterpart?'' Amy said, sitting in a chair in the Taylor workshop and playing with her tarot cards.
''Couldn't it be both?'' Silver asked.
''Honestly, I'm not sure,'' Amy said, scratching her head. ''It is possible, but I feel like we're missing out on something.''
''Whatever it is, the battle's over now,'' Lucas said as he entered the room. While the rest of the group remained at the Taylor workshop, Lucas went to take a shower and changed into some of Warren's clothes. ''So, how's the situation?''
''Well, the police and the Hunters didn't really ask a lot of questions about the Irregular that had been subdued. They just took him away,'' Makoto said. He and Silver had stayed behind to inform Makoto's mother about what had happened, albeit keeping the details vague, before catching up with the rest. He shrugged. ''From what I know, we're in the clear.''
''That is good news,'' Knuckles commented. Tails then flew over to them, holding his Miles Electric.
''Now, to address the question that had been on everyone's mind,'' he started, looking a little nervous as he looked at both Sonic and Lucas. ''What Touka said…''
''…may be true,'' Sonic said nonchalantly, much to everyone's shock.
''Hedgehog, do you want to say you actually absorbed the BioEnergy?'' Knuckles asked, stepping in front of Sonic, who crossed his arms, smirking confidently.
''I guess I did,'' Sonic said. Knuckles rose an eyebrow and turned to Lily.
''Shall I punch him? He might go berserk,'' he asked, with Sonic giving him an annoyed look.
''I don't think that's necessary,'' Lily replied, chuckling softly.
''Could you please explain to us what you mean?'' Silver asked, sounding a little frustrated.
''Well, I'm not sure either what had happened, but I do remember Lucas pulling me and trying to get me out of the lake. I could feel my body reacting to his BioEnergy, trying to absorb it without me putting any intention into it,'' Sonic explained, his eyes narrowing as he lowered his head for a moment. Admittedly, this wasn't the first time it had happened, but back then, he had better control of himself.
''It is possible that your body reacted to the BioEnergy as act of self-defense,'' Warren commented. ''You were put in a dangerous situation and your body was trying to keep you alive.''
''I guess that makes sense,'' Sonic replied. ''However, when I realized what was going on, I tried to stop it and then an orb of light appeared and everything turned into a blur. In one moment, we were in the lake and in the next one, we were back on dry land. Not that I'm complaining.''
''I think that the orb of light was the BioEnergy you had rejected,'' Tails said, looking at his device and scanning both Sonic and Lucas. ''Also, you both ended up absorbing it.''
''Really?'' Lucas didn't appear that surprised, having already had a hunch that both of them were affected by the BioEnergy.
''Well, you both still have residual remnants of BioEnergy,'' Tails added, looking at the two. ''How do you feel?''
''Great!'' Sonic answered. Lucas shrugged.
''I feel a little tired, but otherwise, I'm fine,'' he said.
''I think that we will have to keep you both here to make sure there are no consequences to your actions,'' Warren noted. ''Messing with BioEnergy is a big deal and I don't want either of you suffer because of that.''
''Do we really have to? We both know what being affected by BioEnergy looks like and we're doing great, so I don't think we need any babysitting,'' Sonic said.
''We could, however, try to figure out what exactly we can do with BioEnergy,'' Lucas suggested, with Sonic smirking, elbowing his partner.
''Huh, who would've thought? Do you really want to take the risk?'' he asked.
''As long as no one gets hurt and we get to learn more about Irregulars,'' Lucas replied, him and Sonic exchanging confident looks. The rest of their friends didn't look as confident, with Amy placing a hand over her forehead, sighing.
''Why do I have a bad feeling about this?'' she muttered under her breath.
xXx
Touka was walking through the streets of Neos City, holding her hoverboard and thinking about what she had witnessed. Sonic had managed to tap into Lucas' BioEnergy, but instead of absorbing it, he literally shared it with Lucas. This had resulted in both Sonic and Lucas becoming empowered, but it appeared that they still had no idea what kind of power they had actually unlocked.
Now, this is quite an interesting situation… If they manage to harness those powers properly, they'd be unbeatable. After all, each of the Irregulars is already special enough – sharing the power with a human partner, it makes them only more dangerous; it makes them instant targets for anyone who decides they're not welcome.
Touka sighed, only to suddenly feel a strong headache, pressing her hand against her head. She felt dizzy as a strange memory flashed in her mind, one of her finding herself in a room, alarms blaring in the background. She saw two figures fighting and trashing the room, one figure being desperate to protect her, while the other was snarling ferally, determined to murder her. Touka suddenly felt the memory wavering, but she forced herself to focus on it, on the dark figures fighting over her. She needed to know who they were and what was going on with her memories. Unfortunately for her, they faded.
She leaned against the nearby wall, taking deep breaths as she tried to recover. She shook her head, trying to clear her mind, exhaling in exasperation and thinking about her situation. Ever since she had woken up at the Kageura residence, she had been dealing with amnesia. She had been on Earth for 16 years, and she remembered none of it. The person who had brought her there, Kisaki Kageura, told her that she had been in a terrible accident and that it would take time to recover. Since Touka had no parents or other family, Kisaki had decided to let her stay until she was ready to leave. Touka would get flashes of the past, sometimes even dreaming of them, but they rarely made any sense.
For example, one of her memories had her being stuck in a wheelchair, completely paralyzed from waist down, despite the fact that she had fully functional legs. She had asked Kisaki about it, but Kisaki assured her that Touka was completely healthy. Another memory had her restrained to a bed, with a dark figure looming over her, telling her to stay calm as inserted hypodermic needle into her. She would scream, cry and kick, crippled by her fear and the pain she felt, wanting it to stop, but no one would listen to her.
However, the memories that stood out to her were the ones were she walked through hallways, being stuck inside some kind of facility. Frankly, she hated how sterile and quiet the environment was, feeling slightly creeped out by the place. However, whenever she was walk, another pair of steps would follow her. She was never alone at that facility, having a companion who would always stay by her side. Touka rubbed her temple, sighing.
Unfortunately, I can't remember more. It feels as if I have the scene before me, but someone ripped the characters out of it. Touka frowned. Then, there is that shield I would pass by in my memories… Co-Code- Codix? Coda? She activated her hoverboard, throwing it down as it stabilized itself, hovering only slightly above the ground. No, I think it was Codex. Codex… something. She stepped on it, flying away, her expression changing to that of grim determination. I need to learn more about my past. I simply have to!
xXx
Metal Sonic was slowly walking, if not dragging himself, towards where he knew he'd be safe enough to recover. Sonic's last attack had really messed him up, causing him to fly all across Neos City due to the impact, breaking his arm, which was now limp, and dislocating his knee, making him unable to walk properly. He knew that he was lucky that he was a robotic ARNav rather than an animal one, as this would be complete torture. Fortunately for him, aside from being barely able to move and having his system warning him about the damages, the pain was, for the most part, minimal. Although, this may have also been because he diverted his remaining energy into numbing his pain sensors.
'WARNING: 10% Energy remaining. Activate Standby Mode? YES. NO.'
'NO.'
Metal Sonic knew that, by activating Standby Mode, he would be left lying on the street, unable to move or function at all. This would leave him exposed to anyone who passed by, making him an easy target for the Irregular Hunters. He was aware that they had scanners that would reveal him as an Irregular and his weakened state would allow the Hunters to capture him easily.
However, he wasn't afraid of the Hunters. As a matter of fact, the only emotion he felt was cold fury. He was furious that he was defeated by his counterpart, whom he saw as the inferior one. He hated the fact that the blue hedgehog had managed to damage him so much and he was determined to get his revenge on the latter. This was an insult to his own strength, to his own existence, and he would make sure that Sonic payed for his insolence.
Suddenly, his vision turned red, followed by static. Metal Sonic felt something scraping against his back and when he turned his head to the side, realizing that he was surrounded by scrap metal, even lying on a pile of it. Everywhere he looked, nothing by metallic trash that had been thrown away, broken or shredded. Now, he was part of this scrapyard, unable to remember who had abandoned him here or why he was here in the first place. He was just trash, left to rust…
'Error, error, error…'
Metal Sonic fought back to close the memory. His system had been damaged enough to mess with his memory, giving him an unnerving flashback to the scrapyard he woke up at.
''Metal?''
Metal Sonic was alerted by a familiar voice. He looked up, with the person who had addressed him being a 16-year-old girl with long platinum blonde hair tied in a pair of twin-tails with dark metallic blue ribbons and light blue eyes. She was wearing a dark blue, almost black, sleeveless turtleneck shirt, dark grey arm warmers, a dark grey skirt, black leggings reaching to her knees and black sneakers with red accents. On the top of her head was a pair of sunglasses with dark metallic blue frames and red lenses. She sighed, shaking her head.
''You're fortunate I had managed to find you, Metal. You're in such a bad shape,'' Ferra Ahearn said. She had decided to let her ARNav partner to go after Sonic on his own, but once she received a warning message on her AR Visor from Metal, she immediately went to search for him. Metal Sonic stared at her, then slowly nodded, emitting a bunch of beeping and buzzing noise. Even though he couldn't speak, somehow Ferra was able to understand him without any issues. He figured it was just perks of being his partner.
'You don't have to tell me.'
''Don't worry, I'll fix you up in no time and then you can have a go at Sonic again,'' Ferra said, tapping at her AR Visor. Metal Sonic turned his head away, emitting a buzzing noise that clearly showed just how annoyed he was by Ferra bringing up his defeat and that he was resolved to do anything to defeat the blue hedgehog. His arm sparked up and he recoiled from the damage, with Ferra crouching next to him and trying to hold him up, feeling worried. ''Hey, take it easy, Metal. You- huh?''
Both Ferra and Metal Sonic were surprised when the corner of Ferra's AR Visor flashed white, indicating that she got a message. She tapped on it, the holographic screen appearing before her, showing her the message.
'''If you desire more power against your enemies, go to these coordinates and follow the instructions below.' What is this about?'' Ferra frowned, typing on the screen as she tried to track down the sender. Much to her frustration, the message was untraceable. She got up, looking around suspiciously. Someone is spying on us.
Ferra turned back, seeing Metal Sonic stepping up, despite the damage. ''Metal?''
Metal Sonic emitted a few short buzzing and beeping noises, appearing to be interested in the offer.
''Wait, are you sure about this?'' Ferra asked. Metal Sonic just stared back at her intently. Ferra then sighed, nodding in agreement. ''Fine. I admit, I am also curious about what we might find. It might be something useful.'' She then placed her hands on her hips. ''However, you're not going anywhere until I repair you.''
Metal Sonic just lowered his head, allowing himself to enter Standby Mode without any fuss and fell into Ferra's arms.
xXx
''We're getting closer to the coordinates,'' Ferra said as she was flying on her hoverboard over Infinity Forest alongside Metal Sonic. While he was recovering, she was still contemplating whether to follow the instructions the mysterious sender forwarded to her. Admittedly, she was the kind of person who was something of a thrill-seeker, getting easily bored by her day-to-day life, but that didn't mean that she wasn't cautious. After all, her own partner was an Irregular, with an appearance based on an old video game franchise and she had learned about the existence of more Irregulars over the past two weeks based on the same franchise. This discovery was quite exciting, but she felt that it still wasn't the time for her to reveal herself to Lucas and his friends, leaving Metal Sonic to take charge of the situation. However, it appeared that it was finally time for her to interfere. Of course, I also need to find the one who had sent me the message. I'm sure they too know that there are several non-aggressive Irregulars on the loose.
'Arrival imminent.'
Ferra glanced at Metal Sonic, hearing only a beeping noise, but understanding the message. The two flew between the thick tree crowns, landing on a clearing. Ferra's eyes grew wide when she saw what was an abandoned facility hidden deep in the Infinity Forest. She got off her hoverboard, observing the building, parts of which had been claimed by nature. It appeared that no one had visited this place in years. She and Metal Sonic exchanged glances, then both pushed forward to the entrance. The building was curiously quite low to the ground, built into the landscape, with Ferra wondering why it was so hidden and what exactly had been going on at that place.
That person had promised us power to defeat our enemies. But, what exactly is this ''power''? Is it some kind of weapon or item that would empower us or give us special abilities?
Ferra tried to open the rusty door, but when it didn't open, Metal Sonic kicked it in. As they walked inside, they were met with darkness, only for the lights above to kick in a second later. Metal Sonic was on high alert, but Ferra waved it off. ''It looks like those activate via motion sensor. Although, I'm surprised that a facility that looks so old still has power.''
Her attention was then drawn to an old and dusty plaque on the wall. She wiped the dust off, trying to read the letters. ''Co- Codex Re- Faci-lity… Oh, Codex Research Facility.'' She rose an eyebrow. ''I've never heard of this place. What about you, Metal?''
'Negative,' Metal Sonic buzzed back, following Ferra as she started walking through the hallway.
''Well, if this is a research facility, there has to be something here,'' Ferra said, activating her AR Visor and following the instructions on the message. It took her and Metal Sonic a while to navigate through the building, the instructions telling them to find the lowest point of the facility. However, eventually, they came across a room, the metal doors opening and allowing them to enter it. Ferra was stunned to see old machinery and computers inside the room, while Metal Sonic scanned the room, spotting a control panel.
'Hidden compartments detected.'
His buzzing drew Ferra's attention and she checked the instructions once again. ''The message says that we'd need to press a few buttons on the control panel and that we will find this 'power' we need.'' Metal Sonic buzzed again, fingers hovering over the control panel, but Ferra shook her head. ''Wait a second, we still have no idea what we're dealing with.''
Metal Sonic backed away for a moment, staring at her intently. Ferra knew what this look meant, aware that her partner was willing to go through anything for his obsession. As for her, she felt tempted to find whatever had been hidden down here. She didn't mind creating any chaos either, as long as she didn't get caught in the crossfire. At least, it gave her something to do.
''Fine, let's see what we have here,'' Ferra said as she walked up to the control panel, pressing the buttons as per the instructions.
Immediately, her and Metal Sonic heard a hissing sound, with the machinery moving. A panel at the far side of the room had opened, with a stasis pod emerging from it. Metal Sonic took a battle stance, while Ferra's eyes widened in shock when she saw what was inside the stasis pod. She then quickly grabbed Metal Sonic's arm, dragging him out of the room, her heart beating rapidly. The doors closed behind them, with Metal Sonic giving her a questioning look.
''Trust me, we did find a weapon to deal with Sonic,'' Ferra told him, leaning against the wall, then stared ahead, shaking her head. ''However, I doubt either of us will be able to control this weapon.'' She glanced back at Metal Sonic. ''We need to leave and we need to find the one who sent us that message.''
Ferra walked away, while Metal Sonic glanced back at the room, then followed her quickly.
xXx
The stasis pod was illuminated by a dim blue light, revealing a small creature inside it, his eyes closed, as if in deep sleep, his arms, legs and torso wrapped in steel shackles. He was a black-furred anthropomorphic hedgehog with a patch of white fur on his chest, a black nose, a tan muzzle, and small, triangular ears with tan canals. He also had six quills on his head, four of which curved upwards while the other two curved downwards, two spines on his back, and a short, pointy tail. He had red stripes on each of his head quills, around the edges of his eyes, and on his arms and legs. He wore white gloves with black cuffs and red tongues, and air shoes which, like his gloves, had black cuffs and red tongues. Gold rings were on his wrists and ankles. Suddenly, he opened his red eyes, which started to glow in a red-orange tint.
Shadow the Hedgehog has awakened.
