GUYS DOES ANYONE KNOW IN WHICH EPISODE (and maybe around what time...) CONTAINS THE SCENE WHERE DUSTIN SAYS: 'Joyce has this telemarketer job. She's always on the phone. Mike won't stop whining about it.'
I'M IN DESPERATE NEED OF THIS SCENE FOR AN EDIT 😞

There’s at least 2 (technically 3) phone calls to the Byers in s2 that go unanswered.
First in 2x01, when Joyce, Bob, Jonathan and Will were watching Mr. Mom. The phone starts ringing, which triggers Joyce (bc of s1 events, obviously), but Bob just tells her to let it go, saying it was probably just a crank call.
Rewatching recently, this scene just felt so odd to me? Like the phone continues ringing and they aren’t even curious who it could be?? The scene ends and we never find out.
The other two occurrences I can think of were from 2x08, at the time that they had Will in the shed when he was possessed.
I remember the phone rang once and Dustin rushed to the phone the first time to stop it from ringing, because they realized it might alert the mindflayer where they were. But even after they denied that call, another one follows directly after, causing Nancy to destroy the phone all together…
Maybe it’s nothing, but I do find this sort of odd. Like, who was calling the Byers?? And they felt the need to call right after not getting through the first time?? That just doesn’t seem like crank call behavior to me? Seems like someone calling for something important?
Was it actually a crank call like Bob thought, or was it something else?
It just feels a little too cryptic to be nothing. And for us to not even find out one way or another? Idk…

Not to break anyones heart rn but when Mike said he would call El in California he said he would use cerebro to contact her on their frequency, meaning that the phone not going through would just be another excuse for Mike to not have contacted Will. In the same way that he could have written to him but did not, he could have radioed but did not, meaning that mike not reaching out was most likely out of anxiety or fear of being rejected (losing him) or finding out he was being replaced (losing him), et cetera, et cetera…
Make of that what you will

Just thinking about the implications of “Mike won’t stop whining about it”
Like it was a quick, throwaway, easily missed comment but there’s so much weight behind it.
Yes we know it is (one of) the main evidences for phonegate, but like I just never fully thought about what would have brought Dustin to so quickly comment about it; since Will left, and they all got the Byers’ new number, Mike tried to call all the time and hardly ever got through, this we can get from the subtext pretty easily. Maybe at first they all complained to each other about it (Dustin Lucas and Mike - Max likely always wrote to El and probably didn’t try to call Will, maybe just wrote to him sometimes? They weren’t shown to be super close so idk), but then after a few weeks it was just fact like yeah nobody can reach Will, he’s probably out making friends or whatever. But Mike just keeps trying, keeps complaining, keeps moping around in his now messy basement room where he probably sleeps most nights. And then Dustin and Lucas just start rolling their eyes whenever he mentions it and smirk at each other like ‘this again’. But then Lucas starts on the basketball team and hangs out with them less often, so Dustin hears about it the most but just puts up with it - it’s inevitable, at some point Mike is gonna start whining about it again. It’s expected. So the second Max says she can’t get through, Dustins like yep, and Mike is constantly whining to me about it, so you better not start too (lmao a little Mike and max parallel - same person different font). Also both Max and Steve’s comments about it are interesting, makes you wonder if that’s mikes internal monologue/argument with himself every time he tries lol.
I bet in that moment Lucas was probably wondering why Mike was still trying/failing/complaining lol. But they were all each others best friends as Mike said all the way back in season 1, but it’s implied just from that one comment from Dustin, that Lucas and Dustin just accepted Will was hard to reach, but Mike was different from them to the point that it was noticeable cause he wouldn’t stop complaining: so that then leads to the question why weren’t Lucas and Dustin complaining as much? Whining as much? (We know the answer lol).
All that from one sentence. 6 words. Genius.
Netflix pay your writers.

'Maybe we should call them.' 'You can do that?'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
vs
'Joyce has this telemarketer job. She's always on the phone. Mike won't stop whining about it.'
Tumblr media
when we know Mike and El have been communicating over letters and according to Will, Mike's 'only called a couple times' (not only called him a couple times, but only called a couple times at all)
So Mike definitely called more than a couple times but could never get through and the couple times he did he spoke to Will so assumably he was calling all those other times for Will as well (because according to Mike letters are a 'girlfriend' only thing) Especially considering he sent a books worth of letters to El, it's not like he would have been desperate to talk to her to the point he wouldn't stop 'whining' about it.
plus the fact he might not have been able to call El for safety reasons so..

A couple of things I’ve only just noticed….
During the championship game after Jason misses the basket Lucas takes the ball and wins the game for the team. But just before Lucas throws the ball we get a close up of the digital clock saying 001 and afterwards we get a close up of Lucas lifting off of the ground!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Either this was simply foreshadowing for Chrissy dying shortly after the game and every other death that followed, or my boy Lucas is in danger in s5……
During the basketball/hellfire sequence we get a lot of close up character shots and amongst those close ups we also get Steve and the girl he took to the game who is actually wearing triangle earrings and we know that triangles were used this season to symbolize queerness. Another girl that is standing behind them is also wearing a rainbow heart necklace:
Tumblr media
Now, his could of course simply apply to the girl but I think it’s rather interesting that the next character we get a close up of is actually Mike:
Tumblr media
There is a dice roll in between those shots though which features cans of Mountain Dew which is a brand by Pepsi and there’s also generally a lot of rainbow lighting stuff going on in the hellfire room:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the airport scene when they’re walking out of the airport and El talks about her plans for the day, there‘s actually a guy wearing a shirt with rainbows on it in the background:
Tumblr media
I‘m pretty sure I‘ve found the shirt on the internet though even though it might not be an exact match it is still very obvious that the shirt in the show does feature rainbows.
Tumblr media
The guy also stands by the telephones which is…. interesting (phonegate).
These scenes are parallels:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s their first and their last heart-to-heart of the season.
the scenes have the same color scheme and every color appears almost in the exact same spot [the green dresser and the green curtains on the left, the green chair and the green trees peaking through the hole on the right. The yellow light and the yellow bits of the tapestry in the middle, Will with his yellow shirt on the right. The blue picture on top of the dresser and the blue kit/tank whatever that is on the left, Mike with his blue shirt on the left as well].
In their first heart-to-heart they’re divided by the vertical line on the tapestry and in their last heart-to-heart there’s a big stream of light between them.
In both scenes Mike’s arrow pocket points at Will.
In the bedroom we have the upside down tapestry and in the cabin we have the upside down sofa.
Will is talking about second chances: Mike getting a second chance to tell El what he didn’t tell her and El getting a second chance to win against Vecna [funny enough Mike’s reaction to the former is a fake smile, reluctantly accepting the advice he doesn’t wanna take, and his reaction to the latter is: “let’s hope not”….. interesting].
They’re talking about how it’s up to them to defeat Vecna in both scenes.
In the bedroom scene they’re talking about Owens and in the cabin scene they’re talking about Brenner.

s/out to @wizardclericc for bringing this up!!
We always talk about the significance of Mike and El having their last talk in Will's room at the end of s3, but what about Mike and Will's last talk?
Why have their last talk in the Byers' kitchen?
Maybe because they wanted Will standing in front of the phone from Mike's POV, to hint about their storyline in s4...
What's crazy is they still left this aspect of story in the subtext AGAIN in s4, which is that Mike was constantly trying to get ahold of Will over the phone since the Byers' moved. Because these hints were so tiny, most of the audience missed it entirely, but the truth is still there nonetheless.
What's sad is thinking about how when Will called out Mike at Rink-O-Mania for sending El 'a book of letters', in comparison to only calling him like 'a couple of times'... the reason Mike probably got so defensive was because he knows he tried to call Will WAY more than he wrote El. Mike knows this. Will doesn't. And yet El knows this...

ok wait maybe I’m being totally tinfoil hat but considering the weirdness with the byers’ phone in s4 + the fact that El only mentioned Joyce’s “new job” in her most recent letter to Mike: what job did Joyce have when El went to that party at rink-o-mania? El says “I have been to parties here before,” when Will calls her out for lying, and Will says “Yeah, for mom’s work. That’s not what you implied.”
Now, is it just me, or does a rink-o-mania party for a work from home telephone sales job sound a little strange? Like sure it’s not impossible, but most of the employees are probably based in wildly different parts of the world or at least different parts of the states or even different parts of California because it’s work from home.
Did Joyce have a different job + the work from home phone job IS really new? And so that would mean that something ELSE was blocking the line over the 6 months that Mike tried to call. But we also hear from Will during the rink o mania fight that mike did call “maybe a couple times”. So mike was able to get through, but then wasn’t: but Joyce’s phone job seems to have started way more recently. So why wasn’t the line blocked initially and then why did it become blocked? Did Joyce have a different job? And why is Murray able to get through to Joyce in s4, but Joyce gets a busy signal when calling the house form Alaska? It’s bizarre. I thought at first it was maybe blocked on hawkins’ end + Murray was able to get through bc he has all that secret bunker “I’m not letting the government monitor/cut me off” stuff for his phones, but that doesn’t explain why Joyce got a busy signal when calling from Alaska.
@messrsbyler tagged me in a post regarding this post and I PROMISE IM STILL FINISHING UP MY REPLY TO THAT POST HC I HAVE A LOT TO SAY

The pattern of Will making/receiving failed calls is actually pretty weird. He makes a blocked 911 call when running from the demogorgon, his first attempt at communicating with Joyce is a phone call, and that’s highlighted when the phone triggers Joyce in s2. We make a point of Mike attempting to call the Byers and being ignored when Will misses school in s2e4. In s3 he insists that Mike and Lucas ignore a phone call and starts yelling specifically when Mike mentions “calling the girls later”. Then of course in s4 Joyce’s job blocks Mike from calling him making him think he’s been forgotten.
Like…what’s the deal?

So im S2E5(DigDug) when they are in the motel ans comparing scars there is a Phone in the background. For External calls you dial 7910 (Oktober 79?) And for ROOM TO ROOM you dial 7 + room number.
Don't if it's normal but the phone also doesn't have the Z (the letters over the numbers).
I would make a photo but you can't read what it exactly says because it's blurry. I have a big screen that's why I saw it.

Radiation from WIFI, cell phones, firebrigade antenna’s et cetera cause cancer. This is scientifically proven. See research by Joel M. Moskowitz Phd, a researcher on the faculty of the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley and that of many other scientists. The WHO has been lying to us and was bribed by the cell phone industry to tell you radiation would be safe.
