Don't go on that date | Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw
Tumblr media
A/N: FIRST REQUEST FROM THE PROMPT LIST WHOO! This was longer than intended. Hope you like it @beebslebobs!
Pairing: Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw x Fem!Reader
Warnings: mentions of death, Rooster's baggage, mentions of alcohol, mentions of food, bit of angst and fluff.
Tumblr media
“Sorry, y/n, but I don’t feel the same” Rooster said with a sad smile. “I hope we can still be friends”
He had said that to you two months ago, and it was hard for you to keep him in your life. Rooster was a good friend, and you couldn’t just walk away from him. He was everywhere.
As a bartender of the Hard Deck, you would always be a part of his world, and he would always be around there. Rooster worked now as an instructor in Top Gun, taking Maverick’s place once he left to work on his relationship with Penny. You were bound to see each other almost every day.
Phoenix, one of your best friends, had been there to help you restore your broken heart once Rooster rejected you. It wasn’t easy, you were head over heels for the man. Who wouldn’t? He was practically perfect.
“I just don’t get it” she said, the night you called her crying because Rooster broke your heart. She knocked your door 20 minutes later, holding a back full of sweets, ice-cream, and a box of your favorite pizza. “He’s always talking about you, messaging you when we’re away, heck he even made two students do 200 push-ups because they were saying how hot you were.”
“Nat, he was pretty clear about it. I’ve been torturing myself for months now, trying to confess and for what? I’ve been friend zoned!”
“This is bullshit, I’m telling ya. I’ll keep an eye on him, see what this is all about” she hugged you and gave you a slice of pizza. “Now you gotta eat something”
The next day, Phoenix and Rooster were called for an important and secret mission. They left without many explanations, only knowing that they were still alive from the messages you received every few days.
Two months later, they came back. You almost cried when you saw them entering the bar, smiling at you. You were so excited that you jumped over the bar top, running towards them.
“Damn, this is the kind of welcoming I’ve always wanted” laughed Phoenix, hugging you. You couldn’t help but laugh, too.
You turned towards Rooster, his smile reaching his eyes. “Hello, sweetheart”
You smiled, a few tears welling up to your eyes. He hugged you, harder than ever before, while stroking your hair. “Glad to see you”
You moved away from him, getting inside the bar and giving them two beers. “These ones are on me. Now sit and tell me everything you can about the last two months”
You didn’t notice but Rooster’s eyes looked at you differently. There was a slight adoration in his eyes. His mouth twitched every time you smiled, his own mouth seeming to reciprocate your happiness. But Rooster knew he couldn’t smile at you like that.
He was an absolute idiot.
What he said to you wasn’t true. He didn’t understand the deepness of his feelings towards you but he knew for sure that he wanted you. He couldn’t stop thinking about you. You were his sweet, precious, happy girl. And he couldn’t allow himself to be with you. He couldn’t destroy you like that.
Life as an aviator wasn’t easy. There was always a possibility of not making it back from a mission, to have a problem with the aircraft in an exercise. To die during an ejection. His own father had died like this. And he didn’t want to see in your eyes the same pain that had killed his mother slowly during years. He didn’t want you to be left with a folded flag and a broken heart. He chose the easy option.
He lied to you.
He saw that same pain in your eyes, but he knew that you would recover eventually. You would move on, forget about him. You would find someone better. You would marry, begin a family. Maybe you would even leave the town and he would never see you again.
That’s when Rooster realized how big a mistake he made.
In those two months he spent away from you, he understood his feelings. He knew when the first text message arrived. Even after being rejected you still wished him to be safe and to come back home in one piece. He wished he could turn back home and ask for forgiveness.
He couldn’t. And he would have to go through Phoenix first, though. She became your protector after you confessed.
Phoenix wasn’t very subtle. Well, she wasn’t trying to be subtle at all. She asked openly why did he reject her when it was obvious that he wanted to be with you.
Let’s just say that it had been two very long months.
Now, you’re here, at the bar. You’re not working tonight, you’re having a few drinks with your friends. Some of the dagger team members arrived to town a few days back. Hangman, Coyote, Payback, Fanboy and Bob are playing darts with you. You totally suck, but is fun to see how everyone tries to cover Hangman’s eyes to stop him from winning. Every single time.
Phoenix and Rooster are sitting by the bar. They seem to be talking about something really important.
“Maybe if you stopped staring at her and actually talked to her, you might have a chance.” says Natasha to Rooster, tired of his eyes following her friend all night.
“You know that’s impossible. I fucked up. I don’t think she would ever look at me that way again”
“You won’t know unless you try, Bradshaw”
“Would you give me a second chance?”
“It’s not me we’re talking about. She has been your friend even after that little stupid brain of yours thought that hurting her now would be easier than whatever the heck you believe is gonna happen in the future. Man, breaking her heart to ‘save her from living without you'? That’s stupid”
“You’ve been scolding me for the past two months. I don’t think you gave anything more to say about it” he says, voice tired about the topic. He fucked up and he can’t gain you back. That’s it.
“You’re literally an idiot” she says, Rooster turning around to ask for another beer. Phoenix looks at Coyote and nods, making the man smile. If Rooster doesn’t want to confess… they’ll make him confess.
“Hey y/n!” says Coyote, putting an arm around your shoulders. “I have a proposal”
“Do tell me, Coyote”
“I was thinking that maybe, and just maybe, we could go out this weekend. There’s a new restaurant I’ve been wanting to go”
You can see Hangman, Bob, Payback and Fanboy’s eyes moving towards Rooster. You stop yourself from looking to. He said that he wanted to be friends. Friends. And if you want to go on a date with Coyote, you’ll go. But do you really want to go?
“What do you say?”
“Oh, yeah. I’d like to” you smile, turning around to continue watching the game.
A few meters away, someone has lost his smile. “Did you hear that?” Rooster asks, leaving his beer on the bar.
“What, Coyote asking y/n out? Yeah, I heard it” she answers, a smile on her lips.
That makes Rooster frown. “You seem to like the idea of Coyote dating her”
“I told him to ask her out, actually”
“You did what?” he turns completely in his stool, looking at her with widened eyes.
“C’mon, Rooster. She has been moping around for two months because of you. She needs to go out, live a little. Maybe even get la-“
“Do not finish that sentence”
“You said you didn’t care, and I want my friend to be happy” she shrugs.
“I didn’t say I don’t care, I said I can’t fix this”
“Have you asked her?” she stands up, tired of Rooster’s pessimistic attitude. He remains silent. “Yeah, that’s what I thought. You don’t ask her to forgive you, but you don’t want her to be with someone else. That’s egotistical, you know?”
He stands too, looking down at her. “What do you want me to do? Beg her?”
“Yes! Do it! Because if you don’t do anything now she’s going to be kissing Coyote in a few days” she sees something snap inside him. The realization. He leaves her without a word, walking in your direction.
“Y/n, can we talk?” you turn around, looking at Rooster’s serious expression.
“Is everything okay?”
“Let’s go outside” he grabs your hand, taking you out.
“Rooster are you ok-“
“Don’t go on that date” he interrupts you. You look at him. He looks tense. His jaw clenched, his eyes focused on yours.
“You’re joking, right?” you try to laugh, but his face tells you that this is not a joke. “You’re serious”
“Yeah. Y/n I know I fucked up, I really did. And I’m really sorry. But if you let me explain…”
“You told me you didn’t feel the same. You just wanted to be my friend and now that someone is interested in dating me you do this? How can you explain this?” your words hurt him. You can see it in his face, and his closed eyes and sorrowful expression.
“I was trying to protect you” he confesses.
“Protect me from what?”
“I didn’t want you to be hurt if something happened to me”
“That it’s my decision, Rooster” you move towards the beach, trying to put some distance between the aviator and you. But every step you move away, he follows.
“I knew you would be mad at me”
“Then why did you do it?!” you’re tired of this conversation. It’s like going around in circles.
“Because I love you!” he says, raising his voice.
You both stay silent, looking at each other with thousands of thoughts running through your head. He loves you. You should be angry at him for lying but he just admitted his feelings. Natasha was right, he loved you. And he still does.
“You love me” you repeat.
“With my whole fucking soul” he admits in a whisper.
“I should be mad at you, you know”
He looks at the floor, kicking the sand with his boots. “I won’t blame you if you are”
You walk closer to him, grabbing him by his shirt and pulling down to kiss him. He freezes for a moment, not really understanding what’s happening. Then he pulls you closer, his hands on your hips, his tongue fighting for dominance. You pull back to breath, and Rooster follows you, searching for your lips. You chuckle a bit and he opens his eyes.
You hear cheering and clapping from inside the bar, turning to see all your friends celebrating that the two of you got together. Finally. Phoenix and Coyote high five each other and you know those two had a plan.
“…are you still mad?” Rooster asks in a tiny voice. Why is he so cute?
“Oh, I’m really mad. But you’ll have time to make it up”
He smiles. “I like the sound of that” he says, pulling you closer to kiss you again.

good as hell
Tumblr media
Song- Good As Hell by Lizzo
Pairing- Dagger Squad x gn!reader (A little IcePop and MavDad cameo)
Warning(s)- Alcohol consumption, mentions of cheating
Wordcount- 971
Pt. 2
A/N- I wrote this one-shot way before the whole thing about Lizzo
Pulling up to the Dagger household, I wiped my tears and grabbed my duffle bag from the back seat before walking up to the door. I knew everyone was home since I saw their cars in the driveway and heard everyone’s laughter in the house. Ringing the doorbell, I waited for a minute until I heard footsteps coming to the door. The door opened revealing Bob and he pulled me into a hug when he saw the look on my face. He rubbed my back as I cried into his shoulder.
“Hey Bob, what’s-” I saw Phoenix pausing her steps. “Y/N, what’s wrong hun? What happened?”
“I found him cheating on me,” I told her. “I came home with another chick in our bed.”
“Oh honey,” she wrapped me in a hug. “I’m so sorry.”
“It’s fine,” I waved it off and wiped my tears. “Can I just stay with you guys for a few days? I can’t sleep there now.”
“Yeah sure,” Phoenix nodded her head. “Come on, follow me and you can sleep in the spare bedroom. Bob can tell everyone that you’re staying with us for a few days.”
Nodding my head, I followed Phoenix upstairs while Bob went to where the others were. When we reached the room, Phoenix gave me a comforting squeeze before leaving the room so I could be with myself. I grabbed a pair of shorts and a t-shirt before grabbing my toiletries and heading into the bathroom. Turning on the light, I saw how red my eyes were from the amount of crying that happened on the way there. Washing and cleansing my face, I changed into my pajamas and headed downstairs where everyone else was.
“Y/N, hey!” Fanboy waved at me.
I waved to everyone and sat down in the open space that was next to the wizzo. He wrapped his arm around me as I cuddled him. I listened to their conversation about their plans for the three-day weekend.
“So, have you and Sean made any plans Y/N?” Hangman asked and I immediately burst into tears again.
“Great job Hangman,” I heard Phoenix slap him on the back of the head.
“What?” He questioned. “I did nothing wrong.”
“The dude cheated on Y/N,” Bob explained.
“Oh the bastard,” I heard Rooster say.
“You okay?” Fanboy whispered.
I shook my head no and he hugged me tighter while placing a kiss on the top of my head.
“Wanna get drunk?” Coyote asked and I nodded my head yes. “Fritz! Make some of your finest alcoholic concoctions. We’re getting drunk tonight!”
“Thankfully we haven’t had dinner yet so ordering it is,” Omaha pulled out his phone and started to order the food.
“Now,” Coyote pulled me off the couch. “Wipe those tears off because we don’t cry over stupid men who cheat on their partners.”
Letting out a chuckle, I got off the couch, washed my face again, and hydrated myself before having what Fritz made. Music started to play throughout the house while we waited for the food. Soon a mix of pizza and Chinese food was placed on the kitchen island. I took a slice of pizza and bit into it before taking a sip of whatever Fritz made. I just know that it’s strong and his Florida side is showing. Soon the tune of Good As Hell by Lizzo started to play throughout the house. Soon Bob and Fanboy dragged me away from the food and drinks to have a dance in the living room since it was our jam. The three of us stood on the strong and stable coffee table and started to sing out the lyrics.
“Baby how you feeling?” Fanboy sang.
“Feeling good as hell!” I sang back while still dancing.
“If he doesn’t love you anymore, just walk your fine ass out the door,” Bob sang.
“And I did!” I cheered. “I left that cheating bastard!”
Everyone cheered and we got off the table before heading back to the kitchen. I drank the rest of my drink before I topped off my third round. I was getting to the point where I was getting drunk but not too drunk. Whatever Fritz put in there was really strong.
“I love all of you guys,” I slurred as I laid my head on Harvard’s shoulder.
“We love you too Y/N,” everyone replied.
Soon the doorbell rang and Rooster got up from the floor to open it. Everyone was chatting to each other when I looked over to see who had come.
“Ice Pop! Papa Mav!” I stumbled to them and hugged them. “Hi.”
“Hello to you also,” Ice chuckled and hugged back.
“How many drinks has Y/N had?” Mav asked. “And what was the drink?”
“Three and Fritz made it,” Yale replied as I continued to hug Ice.
“Though day I guess?” Mav questioned all of us.
“Mostly for Y/N,” Halo answered Mav’s question. “Let’s just say Sean cheated.”
I nodded my head and mumbled, “I’m tired.”
“Alright, let’s get you to bed,” Ice said. “Can you walk by yourself?”
I nodded and started to carefully walk to my room. I heard Ice tell Mav something as I made my way up the stairs and successfully made it to my room without tripping. I brushed my teeth and collapsed on my bed trying to make my room stop spinning.
“Ice?” I asked as I saw him leaning against the doorway.
“Yes?” He replied.
“Can you tuck me in?” I pouted.
“Sure,” he chuckled.
I covered myself with my blanket and he tucked me in before placing a kiss on my forehead.
“Love you Ice,” I told him.
“Love you too,” I imagined him smiling. “Sleep dreams.”
Hearing the door close, I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.

~The both of you had finally moved in together. Choosing your apartment as Jake’s lease was up and he had less stuff to move.
~It was a couple of months later that Jake asked you to marry him.
~The both of you got dressed up and went to your go to pizza place that you had your first date at.
~He asked Jimmy if they could hide your ring in a cannoli he knew you would order.
~You instantly had tears in your eyes when you found it.
~Jake also had tears in his eyes.
~Javy had been in a different booth in a disguise and had gotten pictures of the whole thing.
~The wedding planning went smoothly.
~Your wedding was in California.
~You had found an old rustic barn and the both of you fell in love instantly.
~The ceremony would be outside.
~Then the reception was a combination of inside and outside.
~Unlike some grooms, Jake was completely immersed in the wedding planning.
~The night before the two of you had stayed apart per his nanna’s request.
~You guys did a first look.
~You and Javy however conspired together and pulled the groomsmen in a gown prank on Jake.
~He lost it at that. Was basically on his knees crying in laughter.
~When he actually saw you for the first time though you’d have sworn he was up in his plane.
~The air was torn from his lungs and he got weak in the knees.
~His brain was fuzz and he got dizzy.
~You putting your hand on his face is what tore him back down to earth.
~He fell in love with you all over again in that moment.
~Maybe you guys also had a deep and passionate kiss. (Please don’t tell nanna)
~He cried when you walked down the aisle.
~Had the biggest grin on his face when you finally stood in front of him.
~His brother, Javy and Bob were his groomsmen.
~Phoenix and his 2 sisters were your bridesmaids.
~Jake had decided to wear his dress whites for the ceremony and then a suit for the reception.
~You had found an absolutely gorgeous gown that you had fallen in love with the second you had put it on.
~Your family was invited but not involved in any way other than attending.
~Jake’s grandfather gave you away and Jake was threatened by said (his own) grandfather not to hurt you.
~You both wrote your own vows.
~Jake’s went a little something like this “The fact that I am standing in front of you today about to call you my wife makes me the happiest man in the universe. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life telling you all the ways I love you. I will spend everyday making sure you know you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I will love you forever darlin’.”
~That had tears rolling down both of your faces.
~He was also holding your hand while saying his vows, occasionally squeezing or rubbing his thumb across your hand.
~You guys decided on pasta, steak, mashed potatoes and salad for your food options.
~With a cannoli bar as dessert of course.
~You had gotten a simple wedding cake for the guests that didn’t prefer cannolis.(also for Jake)
~The color scheme was a mix of yours and Jake's favorite colors.
~You had a beautiful bouquet that had some of the same flowers as the ones Jake got you on your first date.
~Lights were hung from the ceiling and wrapped around beams.
~You also had a wall of Polaroids that Jake was reluctant to use because he didn’t want them damaged or stolen.
~Then you had a simpler dress to change into after yours and Jake's first dance. He was also changing into his suit after the first dance.
~You guys had gone back and forth on whether you wanted a live band or a DJ before finally settling on a live band.
~It was easy to find them because it was one that Penny would use at the Hard Deck on special occasion nights.
~You guys decided on an open bar and were thankful that Penny also knew some trusted bartenders and where to get alcohol.
~Your signature cocktail was “Sex on the ranch”(wink wink)(see part 12 to see why that’s so funny to me lol.)
~Javy did a speech that mostly complimented you and threatened Jake.
~Natasha did a speech that basically only threatened Jake.
~Though everyone knows that he would never hurt you.
~You danced with Javy, Natasha and Bob.
~You did a slow song with Natasha and everyone for a second wondered if this was your guys’ wedding rather than yours and Jakes.
~Jake had also danced with his mom and nanna.
~You ended up surprising Jake with a line dance.
~You had on your boots he had bought for you while you were in Texas, the jeans that he loved on you and a white t-shirt that said Mrs.Seresin on it in longhorn orange on the back.
~Placed atop your head was his favorite cowboy hat that you had borrowed the night you guys went to the Line Dance in Texas.
~You both 100% went and had a quickie in your dressing room after that.
~Then he surprised you with a dance in his hat that you had danced in, jeans, your favorite flannel of his and cowboy boots as well.
~You then went and had a quickie in his dressing room.
~Javy and Nat were in charge of making excuses so nanna wouldn’t hunt them down.
~The photographer was given his polaroid camera to get as many polaroids of the two of you as she could.
~He did borrow it for the quickies though.
~He could barely keep his hands off you all night.
~Whether it was holding your hand, hugging you, having one of his hands on your thigh(He was happy you had picked a dress for the reception that made that easy to do) or he was dancing with you.
~You did not do a garter toss or a bouquet toss either.
~You both agreed a garter toss was uncomfortable and outdated.
~You didn’t want any damage to your bouquet.
~The night of your wedding was pure bliss.
~You guys had slow and passionate sex.
~He had you seeing stars at one point.

Warning: This one contains violence and slight gore.
After three months in Jacksonville, you couldn't deny the loneliness that crawled up your very being; work was great and it paid all your necessities, so you couldn't whine about financial problems, but outside work, you were pretty much alone, saw for the fact that you took on a poodle dog to ease some of that depression. Dating just wasn't your department and most guys couldn't even live it up to put on a great conversation. You still kept in touch with some old friends from Illinois and occasionally chatted up with them to get the time going. One of your girl friends gave you some cheap advice about entering dating sites, but you knew from high school that most of these sites were full of creeps and old perverts who wanted to jack off to under-age girls. It made you almost throw up, but you took on her advice and entered one, putting on a single picture of you, but a very decent one. You weren't going to be found on a dating site with nude pictures of you, just no.
That's how you found yourself now on a Saturday night on the couch with a glass of red wine, your white-furred pet next on the couch, sleeping after a day of running with you in the park. Your laptop was on your lap, listening to some music, a separated opened window of the dating site. So far just a few guys entered to chat with you. One was living in Oregon, so too far away, another one was just flirting cheaply with you.
You wondered how your brother managed to get a girlfriend so easily. He told you that he meet her when he went to buy a new laptop; so far he was very happy with her. Her name was Spann and she worked in the business industry, you haven't met her but your brother sends you a picture of her. Definitely pretty and very professional looking. You were glad he finally found someone who will cherish him, she always came by to his apartment to help him and even cook for him. To you, it sounded like a dream partner.
You were pulled out from your thoughts by the sound of a ding, signaling that someone entered on your chatroom on the dating site. You only hoped it wasn't some creep who wanted your nudes; so you opened the window.
JSkull: Hello there.
Well, at last, it wasn't a direct 'I wanna see your boobs' message.
TattooedKitty: Hey there.
You sometimes hated your choice of username, but it was completely random, plus it had a bit f truth behind it, having your whole back tattooed. You did that in high school when you had that rebel phase, still deep inside you enjoyed the freedom you had back then.
JSkull: What's a girl like you doing on this site?
TattooedKitty: Trying to find a guy who can manage to keep a conversation, at last.
JSkull: Sassy. I like it, but trust me. You won't find that type of person here.
TattooedKitty: So, you say you cannot manage to keep up an intelligent conversation?
JSkull: Smart girl. I was joking. You don't seem like the type of woman to seek out dating sites.
TattooedKitty: Then what type of girl do you peg me as?
JSkull: Daddy's good little girl.
TattooedKitty: I'm not little and what about you? Why are you on this site?
JSkull: Kill some boredom.
That was his last reply, then he logged off. Well, that was weird and when you looked at the clock your eyes widened, remembering that tomorrow you had to go to work. You closed your laptop and went straight to bed before you filled your dog bowl with food in case she was going to wake up and be hungry later.
Somewhere else in Jacksonville...
Jesse smirked; he couldn't help but tease you and you took the bait. So, you were single? Perfect, all the easier way to get his hands on you. He looked at the silver clock on the wall of his office. After so many weeks of stalking and getting all the little information about you, tomorrow night when you will get off your shift he will strike, plus tomorrow Asa will arrive in Jacksonville.
The bald man chuckled silently, remembering how Asa always asked him how his tracking on you went. Jesse knew Asa like no other and he knew that the nerdy collector got obsessed over the little things. Jesse couldn't blame Asa, you were a piece of candy for the eyes, and he almost forgot of how many men he had to put off the dating game that was trying to get to you.
Jesse twirled one of his twin knives, looking at his reflection on the blade, scowling as the disfigured image of his face was shown. The thought of your face full of disgust when you would see him made his insides turn, a bitter feeling setting into his throat, but he pulled that feeling aside. He had to focus on the job at hand; getting his hands on you.
Yes, tomorrow would be a perfect day.
The Next Day...
Work had gone just fine, no problems and you could eat lunch in peace; you had some pizza with extra cheese and your favorite dessert, strawberry cake. It seemed like a perfect day and you were looking forward to getting home and having a bubble bath, making pour a glass of wine. You smiled as you saw the clock 10:30 AM, meaning that in just half an hour you will get off work and could head home, so you began to clean up your desk of remaining files and empty plastic coffee cups; you hated to come back to work with a mess for a desk.
You cursed yourself for having your car break and had to walk. All you were glad was that it wasn't raining tonight and it was quite a warm night. After 15 minutes of walking, you passed an alleyway but stopped when you heard some crying; it sounded womanly and your heroic heart had to make you step into the shadows, a little reluctant.
"H-Hello? Is someone there?" you asked, the whining continues and you gulped down, your instinct telling you that something bad was going to happen and you needed to get the hell out of there.
Before you could listen to your gut, a hand wrapped around your throat, slamming your body into the brick wall, knocking the breath out of you. Whoever it was, was strong, because it knocked you as you were a ragdoll.
Your eyes opened and were meet with silver metal, probably chromed. A skull mask? He was tall, very tall, you reached just his chest. He was dressed in all black, your eyes a little blinded by the red light on his shoulder. A videocamera? His gloved hand on your neck tightened, making you gasp out, your hands grasping his arm.
"W-What? What do y-you want?" you managed to ask before you felt a sting on your neck, whatever he injected into you, making you feel dizzy and weak, until you blacked out, your body falling onto the cold ground.
After 30 minutes...
He couldn't believe how easy this was; it was like stealing candy from a kid. Jesse smirked as he was driving to one of the warehouses he owned for his 'little' hobby, your body knocked out in the backseat of his Chrysler. Nitrile covered hands gripped the steering wheel as he was thinking what he will do to you once he gets there. Oh, he hoped you would scream and cry, even beg; that would be cheery on top.
After getting on the outskirts of Jacksonville, he finally got to the building. Even if you could get away, the closet town was 30 miles away, plus it was night, and cars hardly passed by here; another reason for why this was one of his favorite places.
Parking the car and stopping the engine, he got out and moved to pick up your limp body, getting inside the warehouse where many coffins laid there, some having dead bodies of past piggies inside, some of them so badly disfigured you need the dental-prints to find out who they are.
He put you inside one of the coffins, shutting the lid and waiting for you to wake up. By the dose he injected into you, you should wake up at any moment. After 15 minutes of setting up his mini-camera, he heard a groan from the coffin, a smile pulling at his lips behind chromed skull-mask.
Jesse got the drill and walked to the coffin, making a small hole into it so he could record you. You whimpered as you saw the lens of the camera, feeling like you would suffocate. Memories of when you were trapped into the red trunk came back to you. Outside, Jesse smirked seeing your panicked face and wide eyes.
"L-Let me out!" you screamed, banging on the lid, tears running down your face. This was too good.
His gloved hands were running on the lid of the coffin, his breath picking up as he saw all your reactions, the fact that he could re-watch them again and again, so much sweeter.
He loved to see you trapped, but this wasn't exactly what he was looking for, although it was highly arousing, he wanted you to fight. Taking the camera off and setting it up onto his shoulder, he opened the coffin, taking some steps back, knives in each hand.
You got out from the coffin and looked around, your eyes looking on the shiny silver mask.
"W-What do you want?" you asked, eyes puffy from crying. He twirled the knives, practically mocking you.
Then you felt your gun on the utility belt, hand grasping it and pointing it at the tall man, your eyes now pulled into a glare. Jesse tilted his head to the side, then took a step forward and a loud bang was heard, your finger pulled the trigger and shot him three times. You weren't going to make the same mistake as you did back in Illinois.
The only problem was that the man was still on his feet, a little take back that you actually used the gun on him.
Jesse wasn't dumb, and he had under his clothes a bulletproof vest. He huffed, then before you knew it he threw one of the knives at you, the sharp blade piercing your shoulder, making you release your gun and fall down on the ground.
The hit wasn't fatal, but God, did it hurt like hell, your breathing increased and you gulped down, feeling the warm blood soak your shirt. Your eyes looked up as the masked man approached you, his hand grasping your pony-tail tightly, making you stand up.
Even trough the latex material Jesse could feel how soft your hair was, and he was so tempted to use that mouth of yours on something much better than screaming, but he was a patient man.
"S-Stop it! You piece of fuck!" you screamed, only for him to tug harder on your hair, making you swallow your words. Jesse's other hand that wasn't fisting your hair, pulled out a mobile phone, typing on it very fast, then showed you the screen.
'Quite the mouth on you, piggy. Don't make me use it for something else that cursing like a whore.'
Your eyes widened, then looked from the shiny screen to the chromed mask. You were turned around, your back towards him as you felt him take your handcuffs from your belt, and with precise moves, he locked your hands together behind your back, making you completely useless.
His foot kicked one of yours, making you fall down on your knees. You could taste the blood on your mouth, the knife still impaled into your shoulder, then you heard the double doors of the warehouse open and you prayed that someone came to save you.
That wasn't it. You almost wished you were dead when you saw the bulky form dressed in black entered the building, black-gloved hands on the knives at his belt, black foam mask covering his face, and the eyes that haunted your dreams for months. Obsidian eyes looked into your eyes, your mouth open in shock.
'Finally, you came. She put up a fight. Quite the feisty kitten here.' the robotic voice came from the phone, the message directed to The Collector.
The Collector rolled his eyes and began to walk towards you two.
"Traffic. So, you got her." he said, stopping in front of you, your still shocked face making him smile, a smile that made chills creep up your spine.
"Miss me?" he asked, voice deep and mocking you.
This has to be a nightmare. Sure, and you would wake up in your bed, with your poodle cuddled by your side. Yes, it had to be.
"N-No...T-This cannot b-be real." you said in a whisper, afraid if you spoke any louder, your tongue will be cut off.
"Not real? Does this feel real?" The Collector said, gripping the knife from your shoulder and twisting it a little, making you scream and shut your eyes, more tears falling down your cheeks.
'We are gonna have lots of fun, little piggy.' the robotic voice spoke, a dark chuckle coming from The Collector and you almost fainted when the skull masked man was running one hand down your hip.
This was only the beginning, little piggy...
To be continued...

X-23 x Male Reader
Request- Can I request a X-23 x Male Reader? Have the R be the son of Jean Grey and Scott Summers and that Logan becomes the R guardian after Jean and Scott die. The R does not like Logan due to knowing the thing between him, Jean, and Scott but nonetheless Logan watches over the R throughout the years and also sees a lot of resemblance of Jean & Scott in the R like having Scott/Jean personality and abilities and R having Scott’s visors and having the Phoenix emblem on his suit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You are standing in front of your parent's tombstone. You have been crying all day and you hope it's a bad dream. You are nine years old and you felt the pain of losing your parents. Logan stands behind you, he doesn't say anything or ruins your moment. Everyone knew your parents, Jean Grey and Scott Summers. You have their powers and Scott’s shades. You don't like Logan, you know the history that he had with your parents.
Logan is your guardian until you're older enough to live on your own. He lits his cigar and it's only you two around.
”Let’s go kid. They are about the close the cemetery” Logan said.
You don't say anything but you walk towards his truck. He starts to follow you and you wait for him to unlock the door. The drive home is silent and you only look out the window.
”Y/N, I know you don't like me and I can sense that. I promised them I will take care of you and I will. Ever need to talk I'm here for you” Logan said.
You don't say anything and he doesn't say anything else.
Finally arrived at Logan’s house. It's small but cozy and he showed you, your new bedroom. It's simple just a bed and a tv, you sit on the bed.
”Dinner will be ready soon. Make yourself at home” Logan said.
He went towards the kitchen and tries to figure out what to cook. An hour later, you eat dinner with Logan and he tried to make something healthy and decent, but instead just ordered pizza.
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Anything that Logan does you get annoyed by him. He isn't much of a cook but he tries his best to feed you a decent meal.
”Y/N, we have to train,” Logan said.
”What for, old man,” You said.
”You want to be an X-Men, you have to train hard. It won't be easy if you want to save people” Logan said.
”I don't want you to train not with you, old man,” You said.
”I’m not that old. You are just like your father Scott. The same attitude” Logan said.
”Whatever” You said.
All-day, you have been giving Logan a hard time. He did get annoyed by you calling him, old man.
”What is this?” You asked.
Logan tried to cook meatloaf but it's kinda burnt.
”Meatloaf, eat up,” Logan said.
”What did you use a blow torch?” You asked.
”Just eat it” Logan demand.
You mimic him and he rolled his eyes at you.
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Throughout the years, you are still living with Logan. He can see that you resemblance like your parents when it comes to your personality. He does make you train every day and you still don't like him. There were you and Logan would argue on a lot of things. You have better control when it comes to your powers, thanks to him. You always call him old man and he calls you kid.
It's your birthday on your bed there is a gift. You open the card and it says, happy birthday kid. You open the gift and it's a suit an x-men suit and it has Phoenix emblem. You sigh and you touch the symbol. You look at the photo that's on your nightstand.
”I miss you, mom and dad” Your voice cracked.
Logan yelled from the living room.
”Kid!” Logan yelled again.
You go to the living room and see a girl standing next to him.
”Who the hell is this?” You asked.
”She is my daughter and her name is Laura and goes by the name X-23,” Logan said.
”X-23 is a stupid name,” You said.
Her claws come out.
”I will show you how stupid you will look when I'm done kicking your ass!” Laura spat out.
Your eyes start to glow red.
”I’m ready to fight” You growled at her.
Logan stands in the middle.
”No one will fight under my roof. You two knock it off it now!” Logan yelled.
Your eyes aren't glowing red and Laura put her claws away. She glares at you and Logan is remained of the type of relationship he had with Scott.
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
You and Laura are still frenemies. There were times you two got along, but brush it off as if it didn't happen. Logan is training you and Laura to be the Next Generation of the X-Men.
”Is that all you got?” Laura asked.
You and Laura trained on hitting fast targets and she did better than you.
”Shut up,” You said.
”What happened to all that crap you were talking about, how you will beat me?” Laura teased.
”I said shut up!” You yelled.
You went back to the house and you hear Logan calling your name.
”We are not done training, get back out there now” Logan yelled.
”Leave me alone!” You yelled at him.
Your anger took over and you hit him with your optic force blasts. Logan didn't want to hurt you badly, so he punched you and you passed out.
”Dad, why is he angry all the time?” Laura asked.
”Today is his parents’ anniversary since they passed away. He never liked living with me but we did have good moments. You and Y/N, do remind me when Scott and I were at each other throats all the time” Logan said.
”He will be okay?” Laura asked.
”Yeah,” Logan said.
Later you did wake up and your lip hurts. Laura brings you an ice pack and you put it on your lip.
”How are you feeling?” Laura asked.
”Like crap. Thanks for the ice. Where is the old man?” You said.
”Smoking his cigar. He told me about your parents” Laura said.
”I miss them,” You said.
She sits next to you and you still have the ice pack on your lip. Laura listened to you talk about your parents and living with Logan.
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
You and Laura are now adults. You and Laura sometimes get along but mostly act like frenemies. Logan sent you two on a mission, a first real mission. It's getting late, you and Laura set up camp and fire. Laura sits close to you and it's getting cold, you and Laura start to eat the food.
”I like you,” You said.
You stuffed your mouth with food.
”What?” Laura asked.
”I like you a lot Laura a lot. I always liked you but I just didn't want to show it” You said.
Laura placed her hand on your cheek and she kissed you. After the kiss, you smiled at her and she smiles at you.
”I like you too, Y/N,” You said.
”For a minute I thought you were going to reject me,” You said.
”Because we are frenemies? Y/N, I like you too a lot if I didn't I wouldn't have kissed you” Laura said.
”I’m glad you kissed me,” You said.
She let you kiss her.
”Are we going to tell my dad?” Laura asked.
”Not yet. Just hope, your old man won't kill me” You said.
”Why, you call him old man?” Laura asked.
”I just did and he never once told me to stop calling him that. It just stuck” You said.
”If anyone else called him old man, he would have kicked their ass,” Laura said.
You nod because you agree with her.
~Next Day~
You and Laura wake up at dawn went to the facility where they keep the mutants. They are being trafficked to somewhere else, you and Laura will stop them before it's too late.
”Are you ready?” You asked.
”Yeah, let's show them how we do it,” Laura said.
You and Laura went gun blazing. The guards start to run towards you and her.
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Logan has been sick for a while now it's even worse. He is on his death bed, you and Laura are by his side.
”Laura, I know didn't say this often but I always been proud of you. I'm proud of the women you have become” Logan said.
Laura is holding his hand.
”Dad, thank you for everything. I just wish you had more time with us” Laura said and her voice cracked.
”You are strong don't ever forget that. Y/N and Laura take care of each other” Logan said.
You did start to cry and you wipe your tears away.
”I promise, I will take off her old man,” You said.
”I hate it when you call me that,” Logan said.
”No, you don't. You would have told me to stop calling you that a long time ago” You said.
”I know in the past, even tho we may not have always been buddies, I was glad to watch over you. And watch you grow and become the men that your parents would be proud of” Logan said.
”I’m grateful for everything you did. Thank you, old man” You said.
You cried more and Laura starts to rub your back. Logan passed away, you and Laura cried more.
”He will always be a legend,” You said.
You hold her and rubbed her back.
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
~Time Skip~
You and Laura got married now you two have a daughter together. She has optic blast, telepathic and adamantium. You and Laura teach her how to get used to her powers.
”Do I have to were it?” She asked about the shades.
”Yes, you have to wear it” You said.
You picked up your five-year-old daughter. She points at the picture of you and Laura as kids and in the middle is Logan.
”Is that grandpa?” She asked.
”That is my father and he is your grandpa. That’s Y/N and me when we were kids. He would train us to be X-Men, so we can save people from bad guys” Laura said.
”Grandpa, has claw-like me?” She asked.
”He does, just like you and me. And your blasts you get it from your father” Laura said.
”When you're older enough you can be an X-Men” You said.
”Yay!” She cheers.
You and Laura play in the backyard with your daughter, moments like that you and Laura enjoy the most. You and Laura start to chase her around and she is just giggling and trying to get away from you and Laura.

Book Smart
I am a voracious reader, always have been.  I discovered the “Supernatural” books years ago gathering dust at my favorite second-hand bookstore and purchased the whole series for $10.  I’ve always been a fan of paranormal stuff so they were right up my alley.
The books were chock full of monsters, ghosts, and demons but I found myself more drawn to the complex relationship between the two brothers, Sam and Dean.  My relationship with my own sister was difficult and the lengths Sam and Dean were willing to go for each other intrigued me.
I read those books over and over.  The spines grew bent, and the pages tattered, but when my work at the hospital made me sad and drained me, Sam and Dean were there to take me away.
When I heard they were making the books into a TV series. I have to admit I was pretty skeptical.  I couldn’t imagine any show would be able to get Sam and Dean right.  Especially Sam. I had such a thing for him.
That combination of strength, intelligence, vulnerability, and faith just did it for me.  He had been through 10 lifetimes worth of pain and damage but he was still determined to do the right thing.
So when the show premiered I watched but didn’t expect much. But it was good.  And I kept watching.  It was Sam and Dean from my beloved books.  This Eric Kripke guy had gotten it right.
So when my neighbor Diane died from what the sheriff called a suspicious “animal attack” I had to keep from laughing.
“What’s with you?” My other neighbor Kyle asked.
“All we need is two FBI agents with rock star last names showing up and we’d have ourselves a Supernatural episode.” I snickered.
Later that evening there was a knock at my door.  Two very handsome men in suits stood there.  They looked a LOT like the actors who played Sam and Dean on Supernatural.  “Can I help you?” I asked warily.
“The shorter one said, “I’m Agent Page and this is my partner Agent Plant, FBI.  We are looking for Jennifer.”
My mouth dropped.  “Seriously? Very funny Dean.  I watch the show too you know.”
They both looked at me very strangely.  The taller one finally said, “May we come in?”
I held the door open. “Sure, Sam,” I said with a wink.  If they were this heavily into cosplay, I was playing along.
The blond one looked rattled. “What did you call him?”
“Sam.  As in Sam Winchester?  Guys, I’ve read Carver Edlund’s books a million times. I know them by heart, including the unpublished works from online. I’m also a die-hard fan of the show.  So can we cut the crap please?” I sat down and looked at them, it was hard not to laugh, they looked so confused.
“Show, what show?” Sam asked. Damn, he was even better looking than Jared Padalecki. Down girl!
I stared at them both intently.  “Where’s Baby?”
Dean immediately straightened.  “You know about my Baby?”
“Of course I do. I know everything about Sam and Dean, and about Supernatural. Now, will you please tell me what the fuck is going on?”
And that is how I found out, A. Monsters are real and my neighbor Diane had been killed by a one, and B. Sam and Dean Winchester are real people and everything from Carver Edlund’s books ACTUALLY happened. Mind FUCKING blown!
Dean was skeptical that I knew “everything” about him, so I brought up the pink panties incident, that he was allergic to cats, that he was terrified of flying but he still flew to Scotland to find Crowley’s bones to get Bobby’s soul back, and finished with how he liked the simplicity of Purgatory.
“Fine, I get it.” He snapped. “You know everything.”
So I helped Sam and Dean research what killed Diane.  I told them they were welcome to hang out at my place.  I’m sure it would be a nice change from the endless sketchy motel rooms.
“So what do we know?” I asked, handing both of them steaming cups of coffee fixed exactly the way they like it.  Sam smiled at me and my heart skipped a beat.
“Bite on the neck, but not drained.  Spike hole in the head.  No sign of forced entry.  She must have known the person and let them in.” Dean said between sips of coffee.
I thought for a minute. “It’s a Jefferson Starship,”  I said matter-of-factly.
Sam and Dean’s mouths dropped simultaneously.  “How do you know about that, Jen?” Dean asked.
“I have an eidetic memory,” I told him.
“You have a what?” Dean asked me, looking perplexed.
“She remembers everything she reads,” Sam explained.
“That’s how I know so much about Supernatural. I remember details.“ I was a little embarrassed to admit this in front of Sam.
“That’s a dumb name for a show,” Dean mumbled.
“Teeth like a vampire, a spike like a wraith, able to shapeshift? I think she’s right, Dean.”  Sam was clearly impressed.
“I thought all the Starships died when Dean killed Eve with the Phoenix ashes?”
“It’s kinda hot how much you know for a non-hunter,” Dean told me.
Sam shot Dean a look and they had one of those silent conversations they always have on the show.
“Well guys, I was gonna order a pizza and watch this weeks episode before bed. I gotta be at work early tomorrow.  You interested?” I asked.
“I’m game.  I wanna see this bozo they got pretending to be me.” Dean commented.
As the credits rolled, I looked over at Sam and Dean to gauge their reactions.  “Well?”  I asked.
“Is Dean always that much of a douche?” He asked. “I’m not that cranky.”
“Yeah, you kinda are,” I said with a giggle.
“I am not like that. I DO eat burgers once in a while, and I am not always “studying the lore.” That Sam will die alone surrounded by his books and his 10 dogs.” Sam looked supremely annoyed.
“You’re doing it! You’re doing the bitchface!” I said gleefully.
“So you don’t want to help us catch the Jefferson Starship?” Dean asked.
“Nope. I’m a healer and a pretty decent researcher, but I’m not a hunter.  I’m going to bed.  I’ll see you guys when I get home from work tomorrow.,” I told them as I said my goodnights.
When I got home from work, I found Sam unconscious on my couch with a bloody neck and Dean pacing.  “We almost had him! I need you to take care of Sam.  His neck needs stitching, and He hit the wall pretty hard, he probably has a concussion. I’m going after the Starship.  He took off. I’ll be back for Sam.  I’ll call to check up on him.”
I took a week’s vacation to take care of Sam while Dean chased the Starship across 3 states.  By the time Dean returned, I realized I had fallen for the real Sam Winchester too.
As Sam packed his things to head off with Dean I couldn’t look at him for fear I would cry.  Dean thanked me for caring for his brother and said they would be in touch when they needed research help.
“You know where I live,” I said, hugging him.  He walked out to Baby and gave us a minute alone.
“We will be heading by here on our way back. You and I have some unfinished business, Jen.” Sam told me as he grabbed his duffle bag.
“We do?” I wasn’t sure I’d heard him correctly.
He smiled that dimpled grin at me, and I blushed. “I sure hope so. I’d hate to think I told Dean to back off for nothing.”
Before I’d finished processing this bit of information, Sam’s warm lips were pressed against mine, and my brain was short-circuiting.
“I’ll see you next week.” He whispered before walking toward Baby and a smirking Dean.

24 Stories About the Touching Kindness of Strangers That’ll Make You Tear Up
The Man at the Market
When the supermarket clerk tallied up my groceries, I was $12 over what I had on me. I began to remove items from the bags, when another shopper handed me a $20 bill. “Please don’t put yourself out,” I told him. “Let me tell you a story,” he said. “My mother is in the hospital with cancer. I visit her every day and bring her flowers. I went this morning, and she got mad at me for spending my money on more flowers. She demanded that I do something else with that money. So, here, please accept this. It is my mother’s flowers.” – Leslie Wagner, Peel, Arkansas. Here are 30 more acts of kindness you can do in two minutes or less!
Jim and the Job
My neighbor, Jim, had trouble deciding if he wanted to retire from the construction field, until he ran into a younger man he’d worked with previously. The young man had a wife and three children and was finding it difficult to make ends meet, since he hadn’t worked in some time. The next morning, Jim went to the union office and submitted his retirement paperwork. As for his replacement, he gave them the name of the young man. That was six years ago, and that young husband and father has been employed ever since. – Miranda MacLean, Brutus, Michigan. Make sure you know the powerful health benefits of being nicer to yourself.
A Family’s Food Angel
While going through a divorce, my mother fretted over her new worries: no income, the same bills, and no way to afford groceries. It was around this time that she started finding boxes of food outside our door every morning. This went on for months, until she was able to land a job. We never did find out who it was who left the groceries for us, but they truly saved our lives. – Jamie Boleyn, Emmett, Idaho. These 12 heartwarming stories will restore your faith in humanity.
Color Me Amazed
I forgot about the rules on liquids in carry-on luggage, so when I hit security at the airport, I had to give up all my painting supplies. When I returned a week later, an attendant was at the baggage area with my paints. Not only had he kept them for me, but he’d looked up my return date and time in order to meet me.  – Marilyn Kinsella, Canmore, Canada

Seven Miles For Me
Leaving a store, I returned to my car only to find that I’d locked my keys and cell phone inside. A teenager riding his bike saw me kick a tire and say a few choice words. “What’s wrong?” he asked. I explained my situation. “But even if I could call my wife,” I said, “she can’t bring me her car key, since this is our only car.” He handed me his cell phone. “Call your wife and tell her I’m coming to get her key.” “That’s seven miles round trip.” “Don’t worry about it.” An hour later, he returned with the key. I offered him some money, but he refused. “Let’s just say I needed the exercise,” he said. Then, like a cowboy in the movies, he rode off into the sunset. – Clarence W. Stephens, Nicholasville, Kentucky. Next, take a look at these incredible photos of heartwarming moments.
The Little Lift
One evening, I left a restaurant just ahead of a woman assisting her elderly mom. I approached the curb and paused to see if my arthritic knees could climb it. To my right appeared an arm to assist. It was that of the elderly mom. My heart was so touched. – Donna Moerie, Goldsboro, North Carolina
Bounty For a Navy Wife
I was balancing caring for a toddler and working a full-time job, all while my Navy husband was on extended duty overseas. One evening, the doorbell rang. It was my neighbor, a retired chief petty officer, holding a breadboard loaded with a freshly cooked chicken and vegetable stew. “I’ve noticed you’re getting a little skinny,” he said. It was the best meal I’d had in months. – Patricia Fordney, Corvallis, Oregon. Here are 10 life-changing acts of kindness you can do right now.
My Granddaughter’s Dress
I saw a dress in a consignment shop that I knew my granddaughter would love. But money was tight, so I asked the store owner if she could hold it for me. “May I buy the dress for you?” asked another customer. “Thank you, but I can’t accept such a gracious gift,” I said. Then she told me why it was so important for her to help me. She’d been homeless for three years, she said, and had it not been for the kindness of strangers, she would not have been able to survive. “I’m no longer homeless, and my situation has improved,” she said. “I promised myself that I would repay the kindness so many had shown me.” She paid for the dress, and the only payment she would accept in return was a heartfelt hug. – Stacy Lee, Columbia, Maryland

White Shoulders
A woman at our yard sale wore a perfume that smelled heavenly and familiar. “What are you wearing?” I asked. “White Shoulders,” she said. Suddenly, I was bowled over by a flood of memories. White Shoulders was the one gift I could count on at Christmas from my late mother. We chatted awhile, and she bought some things and left. A few hours later, she returned holding a new bottle of White Shoulders. I don’t recall which one of us started crying first. – Media Stooksbury, Powell, Tennessee. Try these effortless ways to be nicer to people.
Breaking Bread
Last December, before work, I stopped at a deli and ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese. It was toasty warm, and I couldn’t wait to dig in. But as I left the store, I noticed an older indigent gentleman sitting at the bus stop. Knowing it would probably be his only warm meal of the day, I gave him the bagel. But all was not lost for me. Another customer from the deli offered me half of her bagel. I was so delighted because I realized that in one way or another, we are all looked after. – Liliana Figueroa, Phoenix, Arizona
“I Can Still Help”
As I walked through the parking lot, all I could think about was the dire diagnosis I had handed my patient Jimmy: pancreatic cancer. Just then, I noticed an elderly gentleman handing tools to someone working under his stalled car. That someone was Jimmy. “Jimmy, what are you doing?” I yelled out. Jimmy dusted off his pants. “My cancer didn’t tell me not to help others, Doc,” he said, before waving at the old man to start the car. The engine roared to life. The old man thanked Jimmy and drove off. Then Jimmy got into his car and took off as well. Take-home message: Kindness has no limits and no restrictions. –Mohammed Basha, Gainesville, Florida.  Start giving these 10 little compliments to people every day.
Top Note
When my husband died unexpectedly, a coworker took me under her wing. Every week for an entire year, she would send me a card saying “Just Thinking of You” or “Hang in There.” She saved my life. – Jerilynn Collette, Burnsville, Minnesota
He Kept an Eye on Me
Driving home in a blizzard, I noticed a vehicle trailing close behind me. Suddenly, my tire blew! I pulled off the road, and so did the other car. A man jumped out from behind the wheel and without hesitation changed the flat. “I was going to get off two miles back,” he said. “But I didn’t think that tire looked good.” –Marilyn Attebery, Spokane Valley, Washington. Being kind to strangers is great, but don’t forget these ways to be nicer to yourself.
My Commander’s Call
It was one of my first missions on a gunship during the Vietnam War. I was scanning for enemy fire when I spotted a bright object that looked as if it were coming straight at us. “Missile! Missile!” I shouted into my interphone. The pilot jerked the airplane as hard as he could, dumping guys from one side of the craft to the next. Well, turns out the “missile” was a flare we had just dropped. Suffice it to say, the guys weren’t pleased. Back at the base, my commander put an arm around my shoulder. “Sergeant Hunter,” he said, “you keep calling them like you see them. Better safe than sorry.” That kind act gave me the confidence to be one of the top gunners in my squadron. – Douglas Hunter, Fort Walton Beach, Florida
21 Apples From Max
When my grandson Max told his mother, Andrea, to donate any check she would give him for his 21st birthday, Andrea got an idea. She handed Max’s brother Charlie a video camera. Then she took out 21 $10 bills from the bank and bought 21 apples at the supermarket. When they spotted a homeless man, Andrea told him, “Today is my son Max’s 21st birthday, and he asked me to give a gift to someone to help him celebrate.” She handed the man a $10 bill and an apple. The man smiled into the camera and announced, “Happy birthday, Max!” Soon, they passed out their booty to men and women waiting in line at a soup kitchen. In a unified chorus, they wished Max, “Happy birthday!” At a pizza parlor, Andrea left $50 and told the owners to feed the hungry. “Happy birthday, Max!” they shouted. With one last $10 bill and apple, they stopped at Andrea’s sister’s office. Unable to contain her laughter or her tears, she bellowed into the camera, “Happy birthday, Max!” –Dr. Donald Stoltz, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Don’t miss these 21 acts of kindness that changed these people’s lives.
How Did She Know?
I was driving cross-country to start a new job. What began as a fun adventure turned into a nightmare when I realized I had run through most of my money and still had a ways to go. I pulled over and let the tears flow. That’s when I noticed the unopened farewell card my neighbor had shoved in my hand as I left. I pulled the card out of the envelope, and $100 dropped out—just enough to get me through the remainder of my trip. Later, I asked my neighbor why she had enclosed the money. She said, “I had a feeling it would help.” – Nadine Chandler, Winthrop, Massachusetts Yasu + Junko for Reader’s DigestPhotograph by Yasu+Junko; Prop Stylist: Sarah Guido-Laakso for Halley Resources
Raised Right
Children were playing at the recreation area of an IKEA store when my five-year-old granddaughter motioned for a small boy to stop. She knelt down before him and retied his flopping shoelaces—she had only just learned to tie her own. No words were spoken, but after she finished, both smiled shyly, then turned to race off in different directions. – Sheela Mayes, Olla, Louisiana. Take a look at these 8 acts of kindness that turned into good karma.
Blanket Statement
When I was seven, my family drove to the Grand Canyon. At one point, my favorite blanket flew out the window and was gone. I was devastated. Soon after, we stopped at a service station. Moping, I found a bench and was about to eat my sandwich when a biker gang pulled into the station. “Is that your blue Ford?” a huge, frightening man with a gray-and-black beard asked. Mom nodded reticently. The man pulled my blanket from his jacket pocket and handed it to her. He then returned to his motorcycle. I repaid him the only way I knew how: I ran up to him and gave him my sandwich. Zena Hamilton, United Kingdom
Just Driving Through
When my friend and I were injured in a car accident, a family from out of state stopped to help. Seeing we were hurt, they drove us to the hospital and stayed there until we were released. They then took us home, got us food, and made sure we were settled in. Amazingly, they interrupted their vacation to help us. –Cindy Earls, Ada, Oklahoma. Check out this story of how this generous man let a stranger borrow his car.
Butterflies of Support
I was four months pregnant with our first child when our baby’s heart stopped beating. I was devastated. As the days went on, I was nervous about returning to work. I’m a middle school teacher and didn’t know how I could face kids. This past May, after four weeks of recovering, I walked into my empty classroom and turned on the lights. Glued to the wall were a hundred colored paper butterflies, each with a handwritten message on it from current and past students. All of them had encouraging messages: “Keep moving forward,” “Don’t give up on God,” and “Know that we love you.” It was exactly what I needed. Jennifer Garcia-Esquivel, San Benito, Texas
Twice as Nice
Two firefighters were waiting in line at a fast-food restaurant when the siren sounded on their fire truck parked outside. As they turned to leave, a couple who had just received their order handed their food to the firefighters. The couple then got back in line to reorder. Doubling down on their selfless act, the manager refused to take their money. –JoAnn Sanderson, Brandon, Florida. This is the nicest place in America! Hint: It’s a restaurant in Tennessee.
Designated Driver
I’d pulled over onto the side of a New Mexico road and was suffering a panic attack when a minivan full of kids pulled over. A woman got out and asked if I was OK. “No,” I said. Then I laid out what had happened: I was delivering books for a publishing company. My next stop was way, way up this long and winding and, to me, very treacherous road. I couldn’t do it. “I’ll deliver the books for you,” she said. She was a local, and the roads were nothing for her. I took her up on the offer and never forgot the simple kindness of a stranger. – Doreen Frick, Ord, Nebraska
A Christmas Story
In January 2006, a fire destroyed a family’s home. In that fire were all the belongings of a six-year-old boy, including his Christmas presents. A classmate from his school who had a birthday around then asked her parents if she could give all her gifts to the boy. That act of kindness will forever warm my heart because the boy is my grandson.  – Donna Kachnowski, Lebanon, Connecticut
She Gave Me Direction
As I left a party, I got on the wrong freeway and was immediately lost. I pulled over to the shoulder and called my roadside-assistance provider. She tried to connect me to the California Highway Patrol, but that call never went through. Hearing the panic in my voice, she came up with a plan B: “You’re near this office,” she said. “I’m about to go off shift. Stay put, and I’ll find you.” Ten minutes later, she rolled up. She guided me not only to the right freeway but all the way to the correct freeway exit. And then, with a wave goodbye, she drove back into the night. – Michelle Arnold, Santee, California.
