So, one thing that annoys me in the adaptations of The Phantom of the Opera is that Raoul, in the book, if I'm not mistaken, also abandons something. Christine abandons the opera, but also Raoul abandons his family so that they can both live their love in peace, because Raoul's family would not have agreed. (I read the book a long time ago so correct me if I'm wrong) but this aspect of Raoul completely disappears in the adaptations ! He can marry Christine without problem. And already I'm not a fan of the character, with this aspect of the adaptations it really gives me the impression that Christine simply becomes a trophy wife who abandons everything she is. Her name, her ambition, the singing, etc., to become Raoul's wife... Which is a horrible prospect. From a symbolic point of view, the phantom gave Christine a voice, but the relationship with Raoul takes away this voice. It's not cool.

this is purely an appreciation post for the 2011 25th Anniversary Phantom of the Opera Final Lair Scene:
youtube
First of all, Sierra, Ramin, and Hadley are what make this so amazing. They all gave such a fabulous performance here, it is what makes this scene so so good in my opinion.
Second, all of their costumes are incredible. But, Sierra's christine wedding dress is infamous for being ridiculously heavy and difficult to move in. So, that just makes her jaw-dropping performance even more impressive.
Third, Hadley's faces in this scene are spectacular. Watch this scene again and just watch him the entire time, it's great.
Fourth i guess? wow this got away from me fast: Ramin just sells this character and this scene so hard. Like, I've never seen a better Phantom performance, and this goes for all of them. His acting is so thoroughly nuanced, and his voice is obviously phenomenal. He truly conveys this character in such an honest, realistic way. Also, how he is able to go from guttural screaming to soft, gentle singing will never be real to me.
To finish, "Angel of music, you deceived me," is my favorite line in the entire show. And Sierra delivers it so genuinely, it never fails to take my breath away. It is so good!
If I haven't made it obvious already, I love this production of Phantom, and I really like the show itself. It really, really has it's flaws, and don't get me started on Love Never Dies, but I enjoy it's music and it's story and it's characters. This specific cast is probably my favorite, but there are many others I also really enjoy. The 2018 Broadway Company is another that comes to mind that I also adore, with Ali Ewoldt, Peter Jöback, and Rodney Ingram.
I would really love if this youtube channel would upload more of the show, even though i could watch the show on my own perfectly fine lmao
The phantom of the infinity castle (Demon slayer) (Small lyric comic??) (POTO 25th anniversary)
(That was Zakiko's yell off to the right, BTW)
What is it with me & always giving this woman an eye glow effect?
Yes, I purposefully didn't add her name for the narration on Nebula & also purposefully waited until the poll ended so I could post this
Thanks for voting, BTW! Her new name is officially Astarte. I'll change it to that, but it'll stay as Astaroth in the SBP au <3
Fun fact: Phantom from POTO, more specifically the 25th anniversary version (Cuz Ramin Karimloo is a beast), is one of my main inspirations for Astarte
The other main inspo was Alastor, obviously
No one tell my dad about this, he's obsessed with this POTO & I'll never hear the end of it since I keep telling him I'm bored of it (I am for the most part, but that doesn't mean I hate it. Everyone did a phenomenal job >3<)
I'm tired of seeing the word grooming taken out and used all the time by people who probably don't understand its definition.
For the record, Christine was in her twenties, when she met the Phantom / Erik. She was a fucking adult, in a society that for the time considered her a spinster. She never turned 15 or 16 in the original story, as people are so fond of claiming.
Also, Erik is not a villain but an anti-hero character. I'm tired of seeing him constantly demonize, like he's just a bad guy, when he doesn't.
Erik and Christine are basically twisted versions of Beauty and the Beast, Hades and Persephone, and Romeo and Juliet. Without forgetting that they are also, among other things, the incarnation of death and the maiden.
Erik also symbolizes Christine's sexual awakening and coming of age.
Whether you like it or not, they have a romantic and sexual connection in the original text.
whenever I watch this scene I keep thinking abt that one episode of The Hang With Ramin Karimloo where he and Sierra talked abt the 25th so... here's a cast commentary style edit i guess
