So, while I was playing Reload (great game 10/10), I was brainstorming about using the android that kills Shadows in P5. So, I came up with an AU where Akechi is an Anti-Shadow weapon. Well he is inspired by one.

Of course, there are fanarts (better than mine) or fics where he is that Anti-Shadow weapon, but I have never really seen anything dwelling into lore that much? I just saw the concept being thrown around or Phantom Thieves just being a part of Shadow Ops (feel free to correct me, I haven't been everywhere in Persona fandom ehsjskks) So here's my take, which contains spoilers for Persona 5 (obvs) and some angsty themes:

Spoilers obvs!!!!!!!!

-Wakaba killed Akechi during one of Metaverse's experiments (oops),

-she felt so guilty about it that she secretly retrieved his consciousness from there,

-using plans for an Anti-Shadow weapon

by the Kirijo Group that she somehow got hold of (maybe she stole it, maybe she just got it idc), she rebuilt him as an android and put his consciousness there (although it exists with the programming, because she wasn't that knowledgeable about robotics - she was a cognitive psicentist at heart, after all),

-was it a good decision? idk but Wakaba kinda strike me as a scientist who would think that was an excellent idea,

-Akechi disagrees, he hates her for that because now he is forever stuck as a thing that is forced to listen to orders (being forever stuck in one body also doesn't feel right I suppose),

-but they have a neutral and professional relationship that revolves around exploring the Metaverse (Akechi can still use Loki, just like Aigis can use Palladion),

-Conspiracy, learning about this, hacks Akechi-android to use him as a weapon in the Metaverse (so he still is a Black Mask, although everything is done completely without his input),

-Akechi then kills Wakaba, which she anticipated and before that she had given Futaba a copy of her research and Akechi’s plans - although she said to never use them without a really serious reasoning,

-yada, yada, yada we're in original game timeline,

-Akechi as a Detective Prince doesn't exist,

-but he does exist like a obstacle in Palaces/Mementos that hunts down the Thieves,

-let’s just say they would be able to fight him back around the time their lvl in Okumura's Palace,

-Morgana doesn't know wtf Akechi is,

-Joker has some suspicion that Akechi isn't just a machine, but he doesn't really voice it at that point,

-when they are in Futaba's palace, on one of the wall arts (the one where Wakaba works on something and Futaba is begging for her attention) they notice that Wakaba was working on one of Akechi's parts (probably his arm idk),

-so they ask Futaba (post-change of heart) what’s going on, but she has to do research,

-when Futaba joins the team, Akechi always targets her (due to his resent to Wakaba),

-they finally learn what Akechi is and that he is malfunctioning (y'know being a serial killer weapon) due to being hacked, so they decide to help him (bonus point if they can get him on their team),

-so in Okumura palace arc they set on changing the CEO heart and capturing Akechi (who is also there, because he has to get rid of Okumura),

-during the fight in that Palace, Futaba manages to free him from Conspiracy’s control (bonus point if he awakes to Robin Hood),

-when they get him back to Leblanc's attic, Futaba repairs him (because I feel like she would be into robotics just like her mom) and they learn that even if he is on their side now, he doesn't remember who he really was (even first his name, only Akechi).

So, my AU would revolve around Akechi re-learning about his past (he can bond over his amnesia with Morgana) and being as human as possible.

I have a few ideas that I probably will draw (or write, who knows), but that's all for now. Thanks for coming for my ted talk.

He also said he didn’t feel anything different with you guys being in Jack’s mindscape, which is interesting, though maybe he’d feel something if you went into his section. You probably don’t care, I just don’t imagine that someone being awake while someone else is in their mindscape is very common, so I think the question of whether or not he can feel it is interesting

'We can always ask Elba about that the next time we see him,' Marvin says. 'I'm sure that in the whole wide world of magic, there have been other occasions where someone's been in someone else's mindscape while they were awake.'

'Maybe it's like Persona 5 and you can just go into someone's mind even when they're conscious,' Jackie suggests.

'What?'

'Yeah that's a thing that they do in that game. They go into mind Palaces, it's actually a lot like what we're doing now.'

'Since when were you into Persona?' Chase mumbles.

'Since the fifth game came out. That was, what, 2017?'

'What is Persona?' Henrik asks.

Jackie grins. 'Oh, you do not want me to go off on that tangent right now. Ask me again later when we're not busy looking for corruption.'

As the group discusses this, they walk up to the cabin. Jack clears the frost from a window and peers through. 'Looks cozy in there,' he comments. Then he reaches for the front door. It opens with some difficulty, pushing aside the snow piled up in front of it.

The inside of the cabin is all yellows, oranges, and rich browns. There's a fireplace burning steadily, and a collection of soft chairs and sofas around it. A thick rug covers the wooden floor. There are a couple doors leading elsewhere into the house.

'Oh, it's warm in here!' JJ gasps. 'You can feel it being warm.'

'Weird, you couldn't feel it being cold outside,' Marvin says. 'It was just, like, normal temperature even with all the snow. Kind of weird now that you think about it.'

Humilitas Kitagawa Boss Fight

Before the Battle/ Stage 1

Yusuke takes his cognitive treasure and makes it grow to the size of a spear. At the very start of the match Yusuke runs behind foldable walls and four guards enter the field in order to defend him. During this portion of the battle Yusuke will paint a piece and attempts to disrupt him will be disrupted by the guards. This can cause the battle to diverge into two paths. The first is the path that occurs if the Infiltrators are able to defeat the guards. Defeating the guards will let the Infiltrators attack Yusuke and doing this will send him into a furious rage. He will prematurely debut his new persona and begin fighting the Infiltrators in a more straightforward manner. In this stage of the battle, which I’ll dub

Stage 2.1

Yusuke is significantly stronger, spongier and gains an extra turn. Getting him to below half health will force Yusuke’s hand and unveil the unfinished painting with him and his persona subsuming into the portrait. Yusuke, his persona (St. Francis of Assisi) and the subject of the unfinished painting meld into a strange being. Something like a biblical angel that melted placed on top of the body of a pale man draped in Japanese fabrics with dark brush strokes smeared all over the fabric. He will continue the fight even stronger with higher defense and an ability to cover one of the Infiltrators in black paint. This black paint has the same properties as Madarame's black paint. The Infiltrators will also be given a chance to use the black paint on Yusuke. Doing so will heal him and cause Yusuke to laugh in their face, specifically at Ryuji and Morgana asking if they really think that trick would work a second time.

Stage 2.2

Occurs if Yusuke is able to accomplish the painting. He will enter the battle with the painting covered and fight the Infiltrators in a relaxed and calm manner taking careful steps not to drop the painting in his arm. At half health Yusuke unveils his persona and puts the painting down on an easel. He takes the fight more seriously now and begins to deal more damage.

When Yusuke is whittled down to his last bit of health he unveils the painting, a piece he calls: “Beyond the Mask” which depicts the Thieves standing in a line behind Joker with all of them falling backwards in the same motion. Masks flying in the air and a bullet passing clean through their heads. He holds the painting over his head and the paint begins to turn liquid again and drips onto Yusuke’s face. Then he begins to meld with the paint alongside his persona.

After the transformation a strange being emerges, it has a similar physique to Yusuke but bears the face of his persona (that is: completely blank with hollows where its eyes should be and bird wings sprouting from where his mouth should be). Draped onto it is a patchwork fabric of different Japanese patterns and a floating headpiece composed of different fragments of the Thieves' masks.

During this segment of the battle the being has an extra turn and two unique moves centered around the headpiece. The first unique move is the ability to curse the Infiltrators with the mask fragments which will make them immune to the mask's associated element and give a weakness to an element the original mask wearer would also be weak to. Multiple masks can be used to curse at the same time, however mask combinations that would undermine the purpose of the spell will not be used (e.g. Haru and Makoto). The second unique skill is the ability to conjure skills associated with that mask and he can also conjure using multiple masks in one turn. The accessible skills in all are:

Ryuji: God’s Hand, Zionga

Ann: Blazing Hell, Lullaby

Yusuke: Vorpal Blade, Bufudyne

Makoto: Atomic Flare, Diarama (Yusuke will only heal himself once and never heal his guards)

Haru: Triple Down, Mapsiodyne

Futaba: Ultimate Support (used at the very start of the battle only to give Yusuke all his health back)

The infiltrators will eventually find an opening to steal the headpiece of mask pieces. They’ll use the headpiece against the being cursing it using all the masks. The contradictory effect of using all of the masks all the same time will temporarily stun the being and leave it vulnerable to lots of damage. After this the being will no longer be able to curse the Infiltrators with the masks but can still conjure spells. Finally beating the being will cause the transformation to undo itself. Yusuke will separate from Francis of Assisi and a thick paint in a kaleidoscope of colors will slop off of Yusuke's bare flesh. The starving artist left on the floor of his palace out like a light, the saint and his benevolent persona hovering on top of him like a safeguard from further harm.

smallishsona au: in which joel smallishbeans is the world's most reluctant persona protagonist.

My ongoing au in which Joel is a wild card in an original Persona setting, based on Persona 3/4/5 but not the same as any of them. He and the other members of the cherry blossom hill in Season 10 will awaken to their Personas and try to explore Altered Space, a mysterious realm people are vanishing into, in order to rescue the Vanished and save the world. Also, Joel will do this while despairing the whole time that he somehow ended up in a story that wants him to make friends to get superpowers. That also.

The Story So Far (actual ficlets, listed here in in-universe chronological order):

1: Basic premise/Joel arrives in New Hermiton, hints at Joel's backstory. Written as a bit more of a general au post than a fic, but the important first chapter of this story. Some of the mechanics weren't finalized when I wrote this so some of the keywords are wrong.

2: Joel wakes up in the hospital after awakening his Persona, first proper ficlet.

3: Joel forms his first Social Link with Skizz.
