after the herald comes on the scene and the chorus beseeches him for The Real News (tm) shortly after discussing at length that they were just flattering Clytemnestra for having a man's mind and truthfully, women's rumours are short lived since no one believes them... suddenly, Clytemnestra returns to the stage and again says she was chided for her initial excitement at the beacons "A very woman, thou" (Morshead) / "Truly, it is just like a woman to be elated in heart" (Smyth). She goes on to say that she stuck to her womanly tasks making sacrifices (this again just after Iphigenia's sacrifice was recounted in gruesome detail by the chorus), and if I'm reading correctly says that despite this, the heralds were still spreading that very news in "that womanly custom".

apart from it just sounding exactly like she was listening the entire time and calling them out for it, she's doing exactly what the chorus was doing, attributing a quality of one gender to the other in order to contrast the reality. It hits home when she says she'll hear it directly from Agamemnon himself, and "What day beams fairer on a woman's eyes / Than this, whereon she flings the portal wide, To hail her lord, heaven-shielded, home from war?" (Morshead)

She paints all this imagery of herself as a faithful watch-dog wife "no other than he left her", his seal on his stores untouched for ten years, "Be steel deep-dyed, before ye look to see Ill joy, ill fame, from other man, in me!" (Morshead) "Of pleasure from any other man or of scandalous repute I know no more of than dyeing bronze" (Smyth) and the chorus watches her leave and hisses "ok dude she is just saying that for your benefit this woman Does Not Tell the Truth"

like, dyeing bronze? deep-dyed steel? χαλκοῦ βαφάς like... the gender is there shoulder to shoulder in those words and we KNOW for a fact she is NOT sticking neatly in her prescribed role, and it's almost like the chorus is still taking her words at face value (she's a woman and therefore she's lying, like any woman) while completely missing her telling them repeatedly she know's what's happening, she knows what they're saying, and she know's what's coming next.)

First of all: Mr Porn Studio Porn Studios? Hello? Him? "Angel Dust" as a persona isn’t exactly drawing from Apollo's well of creativity, but it is a descriptor. It is a step above calling it like it is.

Second I am so much more curious about Angel's life as a sex worker pre-Val and post-Val. Like if the wiki is gonna be stuck to he was in hell a full thirty years before Val came along. I'm not fully confident that the show is gonna thread that needle of being respectful to sex workers while acknowledging that Val is a dick, but I do like to think that Angel had a decent hustle going before Val came around, + his nomme de plume wasbased on his own invention
