Every single store between South Bend and Elkhart didn’t have kayaks so I had a hunch it was going to be somewhere simple like Meijer in Dunlap lol 😂 say hello to my new Kayak 🥰🚣🏽 #pelicankayak #jeepcherokeetrailhawk (via Instagram) (For Facebook: posts of pictures are coming off of Instagram, so that means I’m still not on Facebook. Happy first of September! I went camping recently and even though we got rained on for half of the trip, it was still a great time to be outdoors. This sunrise paddle may have been the prettiest I’ve been on in a long time. With low laying clouds behind me and a light mist above the lake, it made this a paddle to remember. . See the landscape view by swiping left. It captures the moment even better, don’t you think? . I think the title says it all: this past week has been all about friends and family. In my last post I talked about all the upcoming plans to see friends and family before we left, and it has been wonderful. Thank you to everyone who has taken time from their lives to see us before we head out: it means a lot to us, and it’s part of what makes home such a wonderful place.
Last weekend we went down to visit my dad and Nancy at their campsite where they were having their annual grandkids camping trip. It was a wonderful evening and it epitomized what makes family special.
A few days later I was on my way to meet our friend Joyce at the Vancouver airport. She flew up from San Francisco to visit us before we left. Although we hadn’t seen each other for 3 years, we just picked right up where we left off, having great campfire conversations and lots of laughs. We visited Victoria for an overnight and had lunch with my great friend Jamie, (unfortunately no photo). Our friend Ashley was over from England and he came up for an evening. I finally had a chance to reconnect with my university room mate Lone and I hope that we will see each other more often when we return as she now lives in town. On Friday evening, our friend Marc came up from Victoria for a barbecue then did a bike ride with Craig on the Saturday. Friends Penny and Juan came down for the barbecue as well. Again...no photos of these visits either...I know I suck.
Today we started packing!! There’s a lot to be done between packing for the trip and moving out of the trailer. It won’t be done in one day, that’s for sure! However, we have several days and this allowed us to take advantage of another beautiful day and get out in our kayaks. We went up river then took a refreshing swim before heading back down to the campground.
So, we’re in our final week before leaving for our grand adventure. The “Beyond” part is finally almost here!
For our first installment in "My First Kayak" we take a quick look at Tim's first kayak that he used to get out on the water. Not everyone has a bottomless budget and his kayak proves the point. Special thanks to Yak-Tribe for the idea and be sure to check them out for a great group of kayaking guys and gals. Let us know what YOUR first kayak was in the comments. Mother nature is only at about 20% for fall color. So, I finally purchased a kayak the other week !!! It’s a Pelican Angler model, the blue one. The purple/pink one is my daughters. It’s not fancy, but it should work for a first timer ! . I’ll be taking it out today and see how it does! 🛶 . Any other kayakers out there? . . .
