Celebrating Conflict Resolution Day
Every year, Conflict Resolution Day is celebrated on the third Thursday in October.
Conflict Resolution Day coincides with the American Bar Association's (ABA) Mediation Week. If you don’t know what mediation is, here’s some more information about mediation.
Conflict Resolution Day started in 2005. The Association for Conflict Resolution created Conflict Resolution Day to:
Promote awareness of mediation, arbitration, conciliation and other creative, peaceful means of resolving conflict;
Promote the use of conflict resolution in schools, families, businesses, communities, governments and the legal system;
Recognize the significant contributions of peacemakers; and
Encourage celebrations across the country and around the world on the same day.
Now several counties, cities, and states adopt proclamations designating conflict resolution celebrations. Organizations also celebrate Conflict Resolution Day with team-building, problem-solving, and relationship-building exercises.
In fact, Forbes has highlighted the need for conflict resolution skills during an economic downturn. In an article, the magazine shared, “One particular training area that should not be cut because investment in it will pay off is conflict management skills. Because workplace conflict is likely to increase during an economic downturn, equipping staff and managers with the confidence and skill to manage conflict in difficult times will help organizations adapt and even thrive.”
We all have conflicts in our lives from time to time. It is the nature of relationships. We have a choice about how we want to manage the conflict that we face. We can avoid them, handle them poorly, or handle them well.
Most people who face conflict exercise fight, flight, or fright, meaning they escalate the conflict, run away, or freeze not knowing what to do. Rather than reacting in one of these ways, you can learn to react more effectively and positively by becoming a Peacemaker.
What does a Peacemaker do? A Peacemaker establishes peace: peace with others, peace between others, and peace within himself or herself. A Peacemaker solves conflict or potential conflict every day. The Peacemaker communicates nonviolently, expresses gratitude, and performs good deeds for others.
The Nobel Peace Prize is probably the most well-known award given to Peacemakers. It was first awarded in 1901. It is one of five Nobel Prizes. The Peace Prize is to be awarded to the person "who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".
Since World War II, the Peace Prize has principally been awarded to honor efforts in four main areas:
arms control and disarmament,
peace negotiation,
democracy and human rights, and
work aimed at creating a better organized and more peaceful world.
The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded on December 10th each year, the day of Alfred Nobel’s death. That has been the tradition since 1901.
Alfred Nobel was a Swedish businessman and inventor who created the Nobel Prizes through his will in 1896.
Whenever there’s a relationship, there is potential for conflict and challenges. Peacemakers find ways to continue to communicate and empathize with each other despite the conflict and challenges.
Being in conflict can be like riding an escalator. You can see the conflict escalating if you’re paying attention. You can make choices and take action. Understanding what is making the conflict escalate can help you stop the escalator.
Please take time this month to think about conflict in your life and how you can better manage the conflict.

Prem pal, Mamat Ji and Papa and I took a trip to Kentucky. 🍁This was before Prem received the messages from the Divine💫, I guess because Papa was still getting them. ⚡️ Prem scored a pony🐴, I was V jealous of baby bro, but Papa said, “Don’t worry Satpal, one day you will take over as a spiritual guide and all the ponies will be yours.” 🦄🦄🦄Of course, that never happened. When Papa died, 8 year old Prem jumped up pointing to himself “Papa is still here!” Mamat Ji figured it was a sign from the Divine, and he became Guru Maharaji Ji. 👳🏽♀️TBH I was kind of relieved, being a guru is hard work, everyone is watching drop #peacbombs ALL the time. ✌️💣❤️ #DivineLightMission #GuruMaharajiJi #premrewat #innerpeace #spiritualdynasty #directlinetothedivine #peaceempire #selfknowledge #hope #choice #thirdeye #heavenlymusic #nectar #elanvital #indianboy #timetouristselfies #PeaceBomb #maharaji #horse #mamatji #kentucky #ranch #american #southern #farm #indianfamily #ashram #contentment #stillness #dvds #jetpilot #polyglot #spiritualentrepreneur #secretsdontmakefriends #givepeaceachance #paytopray #babyguru #krishna #cultofpersonality #pony #barn #brothers #painting #portait #selfieart #selfiestick #jessicafindley #sonicribbon #jessicalingfindley (at Martha, Kentucky)
