Okay, so Fakir x Ahiru is a pretty popular ship. Probably the biggest in the Princess Tutu fandom. And I ship it too. But it’s also funny how throughout the entire series, Ahiru is constantly fangirling over other people. She gets awed by how handsome Mytho is, how pretty Rue and Flora and Paulamoni are, etc. But Fakir? She never tells Fakir he’s pretty, not even when they become friends.

I have this sappy post canon world in my head where the kiddos are healing from their traumas and figuring out what they want to do with their lives.
It takes fakir four or five years to feel comfortable writing a story about Duck again. Instead of writing a story to make her human, he writes a story to give her a choice: to let her be anything she wants to be. Duck, of course, loves being human. She loves to dance ballet and she loves her human friends. It’s not even a question to her when she decides to return to her human life.
They have to leave Goldkrone for a while, as the new story makes the previously dormant bookmen antsy. They end up traveling for a few months without a real destination in mind. I like to think, one day, they see an poster for Paulamoni’s ballet troupe go see a performance. Paulamoni can’t understand what it is about the girl in the audience that seems so familiar but after the show they strike up a conversation and Duck tells her about how she loves ballet though she’s years behind in her training. Paulamoni ends up taking her under her wing and acting as a mentor figure for Duck (with the secret plan of making her a principal dancer when she eventually retires.)
Meanwhile, with his story for Duck written, Fakir starts to seriously consider life as a professional author. For so long, writing has been a source of trauma and desperation but for the first time he’s given the space to consider if it’s something he actually wants to do with his life.
They’ve got a lot of trauma to deal with but they’re finally free of the assigned narratives of who they should be. For the first time they get to consider what they truly want.

You don’t really have to be Princess Tutu to tutu someone.
I’ve been thinking a little bit about Paulamoni and her heartshard of Fear. And how it was the honest but supportive, not-very-magical-girl-esque discussion with her partner that released the shard’s grip on her heart.
She didn’t need Tutu’s help with processing her feelings, but she didn’t do it alone, either. All the other characters afflicted by heart shards were lonely in their suffering, with no one to go to.
Fakir wasn’t the first example of someone being Tutu without the costume. It was Paulo.
That’s kind of a powerful idea we’ve been given from the story, huh? That Princess Tutu isn’t just a character; she’s an action, she’s a choice. One that you can make yourself, just by being there for your loved ones when they need you.
By listening to their worries and fears, by holding them, by reassuring them that you’ll be by their side. I joke about needing to be tutu-ed sometimes, but actually? I could be Princess Tutu. You could, too.

princess tutu re-watch, episode 6
Fakir: "Mytho, please do not jump out of this open window. Also, put on some goddamn pants."
Mytho: "Fakir, I need help with my feelings."
Fakir: "YOU IDIOT, REAL MEN DON'T HAVE FEELINGS."
Ahiru brought the lamp spirit back to her dorm, just as I'd hoped! Day is made! I had completely forgotten about this plot point, but I am so here for it!
unfortunately, the lamp spirit only seems to be able to communicate in Morse code now, alas.
Ahiru Is Bi, confirmed!!
Neko-sensei wearing a Hawaiian shirt and sandals is not something I knew I needed, but here we are
oh man, it's the Takarazuka Revue a ballet troupe come to town, but we only see 3 people in it because budget, I guess.
the ballet troupe leader is an electrical eel in a tank. He also handles all of the lighting, natch. I think this is also a pun because the troupe's name is "Eleki" as in "electricity"??
okay, I want him and Lamp-chan to meet, I bet they'd have a lot to talk about.
this is the first big hint that Gold Crown Town really is different-- the troupe is our first glimpse of a "normal" world outside of that (with higher tech, too)
Paulamoni's husband Paulo really is the Area Man In Love With His Amazing Wife trope in human form
The Eleki Troupe has a sweet-ass tour bus
Edel having a stone named "the author's convenience" is a big hint that goes whooshing over Ahiru's head. Also I would like a whole bagful, please.
at least Neko-sensei is crushing on someone his own age this time?? unfortunately for him, she's happily married
later in life, Fakir will look back on that dance with Ahiru and think, "wow, I was such an asshole".
Ahiru doesn't seem to have control over her transformation into Princess Tutu--Drosselmeyer triggers it every time so far simply by saying her name
love how Princess Tutu simply doesn't believe in stairs
Fear Shard: "I don't want to go and you can't make me!" *tries to stab Tutu, but it backfires and he vanishes in a puff of a logic*
Mytho responds to getting his sense of fear back by having a full-out panic attack in the theater.
Ahiru: "I just wanted to make Mytho smile!" girl, what did you THINK would happen here
Drosselmeyer: "In my business, we call this 'dramatic irony'."
this episode ends before we see the troupe leave, so I guess we'll see if they're in the next episode or not, I only vaguely remember what happens next

Also don’t be shy, share the ideas! We’d all love to hear!
@fate-defiant
Well, I can try, this isn’t exactly coalesced into a sense-making thing
OK SO,
There ARE more storyspinners in the ‘real’ world, among other kinds of magic, this is a magical world.
Magic is generally kept secret. This world isn’t modern it’s kinda more 1910s-1920s-1930s-ish (tbh, generally, think Tintin-esque) so the magical stuff is not that difficult to hide from the wider world. There is a kind of global supernatural community, people in the know, magic users, etc.
This world kind of crosses paths with several others, including the fairytale land that Siegfried originated from. Travel back and forth is possible, but not easy or simple, unless you have direct connection to one (which is the case with Seigfried and Rue, with Siegfried being from there and Rue carrying The Raven’s blood, and The Raven having originally come from there) (This means that Siegfried would have trouble returning to the ‘real’ world on his own, but Rue wouldn’t, because she has connections to both) (This part is going a li’l bit Namesake I’ll admit)
Kinkan was kinda like an SCP, but with no SCP Foundation to deal with it. Some people went in and were never seen again, but the majority of the time, people would go in and come out, apparently none the worse for wear, except for the fact that their memories were a bit wonky and spotty.
So, like, let’s say Anteaterina was from the outside. She’d be able to remember a lot of the basics of what happened, like that she tried to steal another girl’s boyfriend as revenge for some snub, and somebody talked her down, but she wouldn’t remember the specifics, and probably chock that up to a more rational explanation, like stress from the school year.
Kinkan was also sealed off from outside magical influence. Essentially, the broader supernatural community was AWARE of Kinkan being weird, but nobody could do anything about it. They couldn’t even find out why, if anyone tried to go in, they’d just get pulled into the story, and either vanish, or get spat out with still no idea what Kinkan’s deal is.
So, the vague plot I had in my brainspace involved:
After Drosselmeyer’s power was broken, it takes a while for word to spread, but once it does, you’ve got folks in-the-know coming from miles around to try and find out just what’s been going on with this seemingly random German town over the past century or so. This leads to a small seaplane landing on the lake, which Duck witnesses while Fakir is off talking to an in-the-know person from outside, learning about the situation. Duck sees a few other Kinkan residents being like ‘wtf is that thing?’ and runs face first into the realisation that SHE recognised that it was a plane. Why does SHE know what a plane is? Also, she’s got memories of like... Maybe a DAY/WEEK before Drosselmeyer approached her?
(This did also involve a Duck-gets-to-stay-a-girl headcanon, I admit. She then sees an older girl disembark who bears a STRIKING resemblance to human Duck. Fakir is also informed that Duck should’ve turned back into a normal duck by now, and asked if he’s ABSOLUTELY certain she’s 100% just a duck.)
(Duck’s past was that she’d been part of a li’l kinda Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers/Tintin esque mystery-solving/adventure-having type operation with her elder sister and... I never decided whether it was their dad, their uncle, or even just their wheelman, he was like their Captain Haddock equivalent. Eventually, an incident unrelated to Kinkan led to Duck getting turned into a literal duck, and Drosselmeyer sort of stumbled across her and decided to be opportunistic in finding his Princess Tutu.)
(What follows is... Plot of some description that’s as far as I ever got. A lot of this is a kinda gateway to the outside world and what it’s like out there.)
Various Headcanons:
Paulamoni and the troupe actually DO remember Duck, even though the rest of Kinkan doesn’t. This is because the story didn’t censor the memory of Duck on their way out, because as far as they knew she was a normal kid, and they weren’t present when Drosselmeyer’s power was fully broken. Same goes for Raetsel.
Drosselmeyer throughly screwed himself over picking Duck to be Princess Tutu, but he didn’t know enough about the ‘real’ world a century after his death to know it. She’d already been the beating, bleeding heart of the Rescue Rangers group, the one talking people back from terrible decisions and the like. He found in Duck both the best possible Princess Tutu and the worst for his plans.
I sometimes called Duck’s sister Goose. I sometimes was inclined to think ‘Duck’ was a nickname, based on following their mom/grandma around when she was little.
Duck was always in love with ballet, and the one she first saw as a kid was Sleeping Beauty.
It takes a couple days before Fakir and Ahiru get the chance to compare notes. Obviously she can’t tell him as a duck that she saw someone who looked like her, and he’s not sure what to make of being told that Duck might not’ve been just a Duck, so it takes him some time before he comes round to taking it as permission to write Duck back into a girl, if only to discuss it.
Fakir has some relation to the supernatural community in the outside world, via his mother’s family, and that’s why he’s called Fakir.

Episode 6...
Lily just what the heck with a threesome with Paulamoni? (Ahiru isn't having a twosome with Fakir or Mytho at the time)
I do love how Paulamoni later requests Ahiru to dance with Mr. Cat being dejected over Paulamoni's marriage to a husband and later his response agreeing with Ahiru about why dance.
Also some treat to fakiru with Fakir warning Ahiru to stay away from Mytho, and Fakir/Mytho with Fakir seeing him partially naked in their room and pantless again to comforting Mytho when he cries out in fear.
This has to be the first heart shard that actually attempts an attack on Princess Tutu who had to give chase after it as it would run.

Best of Princess Tutu: Episode 6, part 7
“The Phantom of the ballet troupe is there... inside your mind...”
So, in Golden Crown town there are cars/vehicles. That means the time span can be earliest at the beginning of 1900 when cars began to be popularized in Europe. But it was more rare to have one, and a big thing like the troupe’s truck really makes this go further to 20′s. Electrick lightning also became common in the early 20th century. Still this town seems somewhat older to fit this time period in my opinnion... maybe it just greatly falls behind in advancement?
The clothes they wear on their freetime however surely come from 21st century lol...

Friday Spin Class II
Alright let’s get into it.
Fair warning, this is a theory, a very far-fetched theory but one I kind of enjoy. In my last Friday Spin Class, I made a slight mention to Paulo and I am going to be writing an essay about him, however not the typical character analysis I have been promising, oh no. This is a theory I have cooked up about Paulo, Drosselmeyer, Fakir and Rue, buckle your seat belts, you ready?
Paulo is Fakir’s uncle.
Crazy, right? Well, not to crazy, I’ve scraped together some evidence that will hopefully bring some of you into my favor, or it may just not be strong enough proof for some of you, but here we go!
First, let’s talk about the Drosselmeyer family tree, specifically the one Autor made.
There are three rules he has made up for his tree, first: that descendants are connected through a line, if anyone doesn’t have children, the spot under their name is left bare, and if someone had a child, but they died or disappeared, they are crossed off with an X.
Tumblr media
I will not acknowledge the dotted lines because those are either uncertainties or Autor’s personally theories about who some of the most recent generation are and how he’s connected.
Drosselmeyer is at the top, he has three children - the middle children having no children themselves - we’ll just follow the line of the youngest, since that’s Fakir’s line. This child had two themselves, the eldest had two children, the eldest had two children, Fakir’s aunt/uncle and then his father (and as we all know, Rue was taken by the crows).
Now all this is to show that Fakir does have an uncle/aunt, so this isn’t entirely out of nowhere, ‘kay.
I’m not sure why Autor has Rue listed first before Fakir, but that might have just been a mistake.
That does lead to my next bit of evidence - why Fakir went to Charon, the family friend, instead of his next closest relative.
Out of all the characters on Princess Tutu, Paulo is the only one that is apart of a traveling troupe, meaning he can’t stay in one place to give a child a good home.
It’s possible that Paulo wasn’t even there when any of this happened, when Fakir was born, when Rue was, and when she was taken, when their parents died, that he was away with his troupe writing ballets, and given that Kinkan is kind of trapped, it wouldn’t be easy to communicate with the outside world, no matter how advanced or modern the world is.
This is the first time Paulo has come back to his hometown.
Also why come to Kinkan? How would he have found out about it?
It’s a small, strange little town, and obviously people can walk in and find it, “Was mom always an India Rhinoceros?” but what business does this bring? If you’re going to Germany with your ballet troupe, you’re going to Berlin, not some backwater town.
And yes, Kinkan does have a ballet academy that seems rather prestigious, so maybe in the ballet world there’s Kinkan is a more respectable town. But I doubt it.
Next, I want to talk about his face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like full offence, but that’s the exact same nose.
And my friend made the excellent point that that’s just the stereotype they have for white men in Japan.
(Not to mention their eyes; they’re both this weird bubble eye shape.)
Tumblr media
This guy’s nose is slimmer than both Paulo’s and Drosselmeyer’s, and it’s hard to tell here, but it’s not the straight nose both Paulo and Drosselmeyer sport.
And Charon’s nose is perfect, look at it, ugh. I love big noses.
Three of these noses are different noses, and two are the same.
Maybe a coincidence, I don’t know, I mean Fakir has a regular anime nose, but Drosselmeyer telling Fakir that he looks like a younger version of Drosselmeyer sounds like a bold faced lie when I see Paulo and Drosselmeyer next to each other.
I also realize that Paulo would be fourth generation, so unless every single kid got that nose (except Fakir) it might not be the strong connection I think it is.
Now, let’s move on to what I think is the main event.
Paulo realizes his wife is upset, and he knows how to comfort her.
In my previous essay, I made it known that Paulamoni is stepping into the wrong role.
And what, pray tell is Paulo’s dream?
“Sure, there are some dreams that can’t come true, but there is no rule that says you can have one dream. My dream is this: to enthrall people all over the world with your dancing. And to do that, I even thought up the perfect program for you.”
Not saying he’s a story spinner… but your boy’s a story spinner.
Okay, so let’s consider this logically, in my very first essay, I stated that the story spinners don’t start stories themselves, but stories happen, and it’s their job to finish them, the start of a story is a happy accident.
Paulamoni’s perfect program has already started, this is the beginning of her story, her program, she has found her role and now Paulo with finish it for her, create for her a ballet and let her be the main character.
So, the way, let’s say a novel, and a ballet are written are very different, a novel contains more words and uses those only to captivate an audience, while a program would have music, and stage directions, steps to take, etc.
But, both are a story, but written and ended by someone.
Whatever her program is, it will still be a story, just like the Prince and the Raven is a story, just like what Fakir writes for Ahiru is a story.
Paulo is a story spinner, and Fakir has an uncle, out of both of them, Paulo looks a lot more like Drosselmeyer than Fakir ever has (thank you, Fakir’s mom), so whether Paulo is related to Fakir or not, if he is but from a different one of Drosselmeyer’s kids, or if he’s just his own story spinner, unrelated to all of this, these are the facts, presented to us by the show, I don’t think it’s so far fetched to string it all together.
(Also, Paulo and Paulamoni definitely don’t want kids, and that’s fine, it’s also probably why they didn’t fight for custody over Fakir.)
So… ta-da.
Don’t kill me.

PTutu Headcanon time!
Hey y’all, so as usual I was looking up references for a Ptutu related drawing for someone, this time for looking up references of Paulamoni.
Well, I finally decided to tell @zerozeroren my old headcanon that I had for years but could never verify, that Paulo from ep 6 in Ptutu
Tumblr media
could possibly be based off of none other than RUDOLF NUREYEV, one of the iconic dancers of the twentieth century.
Tumblr media
I MEAN LOOK AT HIM. DONT TELL ME HE DOESNT LOOK SIMILAR, ESPECIALLY WITH A UNIQUE DESIGN LIKE PAULO’S.
Like Nureyev’s the guy who choreographed the version of the Nutcracker that I grew up  and fell in love with (btw @therookieking412, @ultimate-cringelord you two know which ballet im talking about but for other click link to find the version on youtube)
Tumblr media
and could hardly compare it to other Nutcrackers afterwards!!! (which is also the only reason why I made this connection in the first place LOL)
His biography is amazing, but I am too lazy to write it all out here and might butcher all the facts with my rose-tinted lenses.
AND ANOTHER HEADCANON to go with this, is that Paulamoni
Tumblr media
could possibly be based off of Rudolf Nureyev’s long dance partner, who is also known for her role in The Sleeping Beauty before their partnership, MARGOT FONTEYN.
Tumblr media
I have the slightest idea why Paulo and Paulamoni are named as such respectively, but this was something I really wanted to share!!!

Hi Heron!!
⏳ How long have you been a fan/how did it happen?
I've had Tutu on my radar for ages and I watched the first 3 or so episodes in highschool and just never got into it. I would try to give it a rewatch every so often but I never made it to episode 4. Finally I watched a youtube essay where the youtuber said if you love utena you have to watch princess tutu and i finally said fuck it, skipped the fiest few episodes, and binged the whole thing. That was December 2021 I believe and ive been obsessed ever since.
🗡 Unpopular opinions that might get you killed?
Ruetho is really sweet actually, listen. Listen. Does it have its flaws? absolutely. Is the execution bad? Undoubtedly. There are tons of things I would change BUT. Every time I see the scene where Mytho decides that for once in his life he wants something and he wants to love Rue I go awww that's so sweet. They've both lived their lives under impossible standards and come out the other end flawed but undoubtedly human. They're deeply traumatized and they have a lot of work to do but--and this is the part where you all disagree with me--I think they can do it. Ruetho is really interesting and heavily underexplored but it can be so good actually
🩰 Who has the best character design?
Feels like such a cop out but it has to be princess tutu shes gorgeous. She's just so cute and ethereal and the whole design comes together really well. I like Duck too I think she's fun with lots of personality! Anyone who says her hair is ugly is WRONG it's adorable. Also special shoutout to Paulamoni she's hot as fuck, 10 out of lesbian 10s
⚙️ How would you feel about a remake/reboot?
Now undoubtedly I would hate it but I'm so desperate for more tutu content I want it soooo bad. I just want to see my fav dance scenes with higher quality animation. If tokyo mew mew can get a reboot so can Tutu PLEASE

So in the very first episode, in the first few minutes, Duck’s like, “Everyone thinks I’m weird, don’t you think I’m weird, you must think I’m weird.” And Mytho’s like, no, and it blows her mind.
Here’s the thing though, I don’t think anyone actually thinks she’s “weird”. Or if they do, they don’t treat her like it’s a bad thing.
The only characters who are visibly offput by Duck’s behavior are Rue and Fakir. The former because Duck doesn’t seem to be swayed by unspoken yet typically followed social hierarchies, and the latter because oh my god she keeps sticking her nose in everyone else’s business and is she still still here Jesus Christ can you just get out of here Mytho is none of your concern.
Of course these behaviors become quite charming later, as they only reveal her authentic character.
I suppose that’s what I mean though. The other characters don’t find Duck nearly as weird as she thinks she is because they welcome her genuine interest in other people.
She’s truly more socially graceful than she believes. With Malen and Hermia and Freya, she takes a moment to slow down and get to know them, being very open and asking them questions about themselves, which they seem to appreciate. They’re not weirded out by it.
Older women characters that Duck might idolize, like Raetsel and Paulamoni, find her very cute. Not weird at all.
I never see or hear background characters comment on her behavior and label it as weird. Perhaps wide eyes follow her as she runs out the door, but tbf she can be a loud one!
So, I’m not sure why she’s under the impression that everyone thinks she’s “weird”. That’s typically something you’d be self aware of if other people tended to respond to your behavior negatively. Who does though?
Duck’s in her own head with this one.
