Laughing across the room, you stared at your closest friend and shook your head at her latest joke she made last night, and it definitely made you laugh.

"That's so stupid." You said as you tried to sober up but couldn't. You just kept thinking about it over and over and that's what only made it worse.

Charlie chuckled. "Well, thank you." She proudly said before taking a sip of her drink.

"You should be a comedian. You're really good." You declaimed and nodded your head, grabbing your cup to your lips.

"Really?" She asked you and you nodded again.

"Yeah. It's amazing. You just know how to crack people up." You spoke up as you smiled at her and she returned it.

"I'll think about it." She replied and then looked at her watch, her eyes widened instantly. "It's starting in twenty minutes, come on." She announced and you nodded your head as you stood up, feeling the excitement crawl up to your body.

You and Charlie were the biggest fans of the Chicago Blackhawks and you've never been happier to be. You two decided to go above a year ago but it never happened because Charlie cancelled it due to her busy job and that was the only chance you guys could ever go.

But yesterday, you've noticed that Charlie was getting sloppier and tired and you were scared about it the fact that you didn't know what was going on nor you were just a wrong friend for her.

You didn't protect her much as she'd promised the first day you guys met and you felt upset. So you bought two tickets and hoped to death that she could be happy than before.

And she did.

She had kissed every part of your face, thanking you a million times until you got over it.

You could remember how excited she was as she jumped every time around your apartment. You were happy and so was she.

And now, the game was starting less in twenty minutes and you two felt the need of going immediately but it was going to be a long drive there.

Before you knew it, you crashed into a hard thing, making your cup spill all over you guys.

You yelped as it shook out of your thoughts by the hotness on your clothes.

You heard a sigh from them and you looked up, feeling sorry than ever you were before. Then, it did, you realized that you are staring at Patrick Kane.

You widened your eyes and stood straight, feeling his eyes on you when you two looked up at each other. You swallowed hard and pursed your lips.

You couldn't believe it. He's staring right at you as if he was going to crawl up your skull and know every single thing about you.

Instead, he gave you a blank look and picked up only his cup. "Would you move out of my way?" He said rudely and you scoffed, quietly.

That hurts. You thought from the fans that he was the sweetest man you could meet but you guess that was a big lie.

"Um, excuse me? How could I know that you were in front of me? Knowing that you were just right there and could've moved away." You said as your voice caught his attention. He was rude so now it was your turn. "Fucking men." You muttered and passed through him, your shoulder roughly slamming against his.

Knowing that the paparazzi were outside of the cafe, you placed over your hand on your face and exited with your friend beside you.

Not did you mention that you were an actress on a big show that you were working on but that cancelled when you found out that one of your co-workers passed away.

"Damn, that was so cool. Not to mention that's Patrick Kane." Charlie said and you nodded, getting inside of your car.

"Well, yeah, he's fucking rude as hell." You stated, earning a loud laugh from her.

"Oh my god, he's staring right at you." Your friend looked away and smirked at you. But you raised your forehead and rolled your eyes from the back of your head.

As you drove, Charlie helped you out as you changed into a new shirt. You thanked her and continued driving on the way to the arena that you two loved ever since.

On the other side, you knew about Patrick Kane and how he wasn't going to be able to know that you were at the game, watching them.

You loved him ever since but that changed when of his attitude. It was rude and almost hurt your feelings.

So you needed to be rude to him also and you felt sorry about it that you didn't mean the words that came out of your mouth but at the same time, you didn't want to face him.

Even though you were a big movie star, you felt like you were upset by that whole incident. You were pretty sure that you two were going to be on the papers nor the news. You hated it but you only made it worse.

As you parked the car and got out, Charlie stuck to the hip along the way as you two entered, eyes on you especially.

Everyone was begging for their jerseys or their clothing to be sighed as you walked across them.

You couldn't resist the kids, they were too adorable. You've loved kids ever since.

That, you sighed some of them but as Charlie mentioned about the game, you apologized to the kids and their parents and ran with your friend.

Soon, you felt familiar eyes on you that you couldn't know where it was when you were crowded with people.

But you shook it off when you and your friend found the seats just beside the penalty box. You chose it because you remembered the seats where you guys were sitting was Charlie's favourite.

You practically gave her anything and everything she wanted and she's never been happier. And that's what made you energized the fact that you noticed a huge grin on your friend's face and you've never been more pleased about it.

"Oh my god, it's starting." Charlie squealed, causing you to laugh and pat her leg to calm down.

Before the Blackhawks was your favourite, you'll admit that Vancouver Canucks was the first team that you adored when you were younger. And it still is because that's where you practically grew up before moving to Chicago.

So you were still a Canadian more than an American. You would never betray the country you loved so you hadn't thought about getting a US citizen. There was no reason for that, you were proud to be a Canadian.

"Y/N, you done zoning out?" Charlie waved her hand at your face as she shook out of your thoughts.

You rolled your eyes. "Yes. But it won't be the last time." You winked at her, making her laugh out loud.

Then, soon enough, the game started within ten minutes of the first period and not both teams had even scored yet.

All of a sudden, you felt a buzz inside your bag that caught your attention so you grabbed it out and then heard a loud gasp from the crowd throughout the whole arena.

You slightly frowned at the text and ignored the crowd shaking the arena.

Eyes on you, you felt a slap on your arm and you snapped your head to Charlie.

You gave her a weird look and nudged your head confusedly. "What?" You said, furrowing your brows deeply as you take your gaze off your phone.

"Look, Patrick Kane is fighting." She stated, rambling her words quickly and you perfectly heard her well.

"What?" Your eyes widened at her words as you dropped your jaw in shock. You didn't believe what she said until you turned your head to the rink.

This was rare. You've never seen Patrick Kane fight before and that's what sent the whole crowd to cheer even though they were shocked about it too.

"Oh my god." You mumbled.

"I know right!" Your friend yelled and stood up along with the crowd as she slammed her hand against the glass board.

You chuckled at her mentality and shook your head. As you watched Kane threw a punch at the man he was fighting with, you winced and bit the inside of your cheek.

Just then, he locked eyes with you and softened his eyes as he relaxed his shoulders. But the man knocked him out as he pulled Kane with him on the ice.

Soon, the linesmen and the referees pulled them apart and took them to the penalty box after separated. With you and Patrick's intense gaze locked, the referee took him to the box beside me and you swallowed hard.

The gaze between you guys was very weird yet a feeling that you couldn't know what you had with him. It just felt so perfect.

You couldn't help but sweetly smile at him and he quickly returned it to you, grabbing a hold of his messy hair back in place.

You definitely knew he got to you and you didn't even complain about it. What you guys had was so special, you didn't even realize it until he asked you out.

Now, you were just stuck by his side as you two are expecting and happily married.

Meanwhile, New York Rangers Assistant General Manager and Hartford Wolf Pack General Manager Ryan Martin announced today the completion of a trade with the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs. The Rangers have acquired forward Patrick Kane and defenseman Cooper Zech from the Blackhawks, while the Blackhawks have acquired defenseman Andy Welinski, a conditional second-round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft from the Rangers. In addition, the Blackhawks have also acquired defenseman Villi Saarijarvi from the Coyotes, while the Coyotes have acquired a conditional third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. The Wolf Pack and IceHogs have also announced the completion of a trade. The Wolf Pack have acquired defenseman Adam Clendening from the IceHogs in exchange for forward Zach Jordan. It happened the night after their cup parade.  Friday, June 19, 2015 to be exact.  The date, the day, everything forever burned into Jonathan Toews’ memory.  

The day he lost Patrick Kane.

Not a day went by that Jon didn’t think about Patrick, about that season, about that day.  He still couldn’t figure out what had happened, how it had all gone so wrong.  The biggest questions that haunted him was the one that the press, the tabloids, everyone had harped on for so long when it happened.  Was it just an accident?  Why had Patrick’s body never been found?

Five years after that horrible day, Jonathan Toews was about to get the answers to his questions.

From none other than Patrick Kane himself.

September 2014

Training camp was starting tomorrow.  Jon was excited.  They’d won two cups in the last five seasons and this team, on paper anyway, certainly looked like a team that could win the cup this season.  They were stacked.  And Patrick? Well Patrick looked to be on the verge of a breakout year with the Hawks.  

When Jon saw him for the first time since the end of the season Patrick looked… different.  More mature?  In better shape?  Jon couldn’t pinpoint it, but he liked what he was seeing.  Patrick looked good.

Patrick had also sauntered into the United Center and announced his return with an air of confidence and a swagger Jon hadn’t seen last season.  He liked that, too.

“Boom baby!”  He’d exclaimed at Jon.  “I’m back!”

“Hey!”  Jon had looked up, a wide grin spreading across his face when as he took in the site of Patrick Kane.

Patrick was sporting a deep, late-summer tan that made the starkness of his sun-bleached blonde locks really stand out.  His hair was shorter than it had been, the bounce of curls trimmed close.  Jon wasn’t sure he liked that part.  Patrick was wearing a bright, flowery shirt and baggy shorts.  

“Miss me, Tazer?” He walked over and ruffled Jon’s hair, what there was of it, before he sat down in his stall in the changing room  

“Not a bit.”  Jon lied.  He tried to act nonchalant about it, afraid the blush that he could feel warming his face would give him away.  He bent forward and went back to untying his sneakers to hide his reaction.

“Aw,” Patrick whined, “you didn’t?  Betting Sharpy did?  Where is he?”

“Hey Peekaboo!”  Came Sharpy’s familiar voice from somewhere nearby. A few second’s later, he stuck his head around the corner of a doorway.  “Yes, I missed you.  Welcome back, Patty.”

Patrick smiled gleefully. “See, Tazer.  Told ya.”

Jon looked over at Patrick, who was standing and stripping out of his shorts.  He’d already taken his shirt off.  

Jon froze.  

Damn.   

Patrick had evidently spent time that summer building muscle and putting on weight. He was trim, and muscular, and tanned, and…

Jon swallowed hard.
