Hello everyone! Happy Friday and welcome to the weekend. I’ve got an excellent weekend planned but am taking it easy tonight in bed with my books as it seems the week has caught up with me! Time for a book haul. Violent Phenomena is another addition to my @tiltedaxisbooks collection. I have a subscription with them and I’m always excited to find out what’s coming next. This is a book of essays in which 24 writers and translators from across the world share their ideas and practices for disrupting and decolonising translation. Coincidentally I’m about to start this second book today! I’m buddy reading this with a host of lovely bookstagrammers hosted by @pezzasclassicbooks and @celestes.bookshelf ☺️ This novel is the Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece and a powerful, triumphant portrayal of the American West as it really was. 🤠 Finally, my sister @chrissireads loaned me One Of The Girls to read after we read and enjoyed The Castaways together. This is the story of six friends enjoying a Greek holiday together. One is a liar, one is a stranger, one is a cheater, who is a killer? I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! #bookstagram #scottishbookstagrammer #bookhaul #paperbackhaul #violentphenomena #tiltedaxispress #booksintranslation #kavitabhanot #jeremytiang #lonesomedove #larrymcmurtry #oneofthegirls #lucyclarke #newbooksplease #cantstopwontstopbuyingbooks #westernnovels #thrillernovelsallday https://www.instagram.com/p/Cik2yhGLwxy/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hello everyone! Life has been a bit crazy and will continue to be so for a while as I await thyroid surgery (a week on Friday). 😬 Sorry if my interaction is rubbish! I’m back with another book haul. I borrowed Her Last Holiday from my sister @chrissireads she read it recently and enjoyed it and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read of C L Taylor’s books so far so I gladly took it off her hands! It’s also set in Malta, a country that’s very special to both of us. Fran’s sister Jenna disappears from a wellness retreat in Gozo that goes horribly wrong. Tom Wade, the infamous man behind Soul Shrink retreats has just been released from prison after serving time for the deaths of two people. However, he has never told anyone what happened to the third victim, Jenna. Next up is The Night Wire and other tales of Weird Media, another addition to my British Library Tales Of The Weird collection! This specific collection hasn’t got the best ratings on Goodreads but I’m still going to give it a shot. Finally, The Beauty Of Impossible Things which I preordered for the paperback release. This is about a girl called Natasha who has the gift of foresight, beset by strange dreams that she believes predict the future. The summer she turns 15, strange dancing lights appear in the sky above her town which she interprets as portents of doom. Then a teenager goes missing and Natasha is asked to use her powers to help. But her actions over that long, hot summer will have unforeseen consequences. Have you read anything by these authors or indeed, have you read any of these books? 😂 I’d love to know. Let’s have a chat in the comments and have a lovely week everyone! 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookreviewer #booksaremylife #bookhaul #paperbackhaul #bookobsessed #herlastholiday #cltaylor #britishlibrarytalesoftheweird #thenightwire #aaronworth #thebeautyofimpossiblethings #racheldonohue #newbookreleases #newbooksplease https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf4Tze7rBXh/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hi everyone and hope your week has got off to a great start! It’s Monday so you know what that means - it’s book haul time! I first became interested in Olive when it was released in hardback. It’s the story of a woman who is still trying to figure her life out the expectations set by society regarding marriage and motherhood. I absolutely love that cover for Fifty Words For Rain! @tarheelreader and I have been keeping our eyes on this book as it looks like a book we’d both love, as Jenni puts it, a very “us,” book. 😂 Nori is the child of a Japanese aristocrat and an African American GI and has always felt like an outsider. This is the story of her quest for acceptance in Japan post World War II. Finally, I’ve had to really resist buying Love In Colour in hardback and try to patiently wait for the paperback. I’m glad I succeeded because the cover is just as gorgeous. With a focus on West African myths and folklore, the author re-tells love stories and also re-imagines Greek Myths and ancient legends from the Middle East. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books and authors either if you’ve already read them or if you want to read them too! Let’s have a chat in the comments and have a great week everyone! 🤗😘 #bookstagram #books #bookstagrammer #bookhaul #bookheaven #paperbackhaul #beautifulbooks #olive #emmagannon #fiftywordsforrain #ashalemmie #loveincolour #bolubabalola #iregretnothing #newbooksplease #insatiablereader https://www.instagram.com/p/CSXZO0hrrfu/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hello everyone, welcome to the start of the week with another paperback book haul! Again, I couldn’t resist ordering these beauties, two as pre-orders and one to add to my growing collection of translated fiction books from @tiltedaxisbooks A Town Called Solace was longlisted for the Booker prize in 2021 so that automatically made it a “must preorder.” Clara’s rebellious older sister is missing. Grief-stricken and bewildered, she yearns to uncover the truth about what happened. Secondly, my new translated fiction book, Strange Beasts Of China by Yan Ge, translated by Jeremy Tiang. In the fictional Chinese town of Yong’an, human beings live alongside spirits and monsters, some of which are almost indistinguishable from humans. Told in the form of a bestiary, each chapter of Strange Beasts introduces us to a new creature - from the Sacrificial Beasts who can’t seem to stop dying to the Besotted Beasts, an artificial beast designed by scientists to be as loveable as possible. The narrator is on a mission to track down as many breeds as possible but in the process discovers she may not be as human as she thought. Finally, The Galaxy And The Ground Within which is the fourth book in the Wayfarers series. I really need to catch up on this series 🙈 I’ve only read The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet and I have the rest of the books waiting on my shelves. The writing is absolutely terrific and gave me some comfort that perhaps I could really enjoy science fiction as a genre. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments and have a great week everyone! 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookstagramuk #bookstagrammer #bookhoarder #bookhaul #bookheaven #beautifulbooks #paperbackhaul #atowncalledsolace #marylawson #strangebeastsofchina #yange #jeremytiang #thegalaxyandthegroundwithin #beckychambers #wayfarersseries #literaryfiction #sciencefiction #bookerprize2021 #booksaremylife https://www.instagram.com/p/CcOIlV4LjQg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hello everyone and hope your weekend has got off to a great start! I’m spending a morning in bed (reading obviously 🙄😂) after a hectic week at work. It was made all better by going to see Dylan Moran (Irish comedian) last night on his tour. I’m going to try and do a stack post later but for now, here’s a book haul! I wish I’d plumped for the beautiful hardback of Cecily 😩 but here is the next best thing, the paperback! Told through the eyes of its greatest unseen protagonist, Cecily is an astonishing debut that plunges you into the exhilaration of the first days of the Wars of the Roses, a war as women fight it. Secondly, another beautiful @tiltedaxisbooks translated fiction book, Of Strangers And Bees by Hamid Ismailov, translated by Shelley Fairweather-Vega. Described as a thrilling, multi-stranded epic this novel traces the fate of the medieval polymath Avicenna who shaped Islamic thought and science for centuries. Finally, we have King Of Rabbits. This book has been on my radar for a little while, it’s described as a brilliantly crafted story of class and race and the failure of society to catch the children who fall through the cracks. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookhaul #bookhoarder #booknuts #bookobsessed #paperbackhaul #cecily #anniegarthwaite #ofstrangersandbees #hamidismailov #shelleyfairweathervega #tiltedaxispress #translatedfiction #historicalfiction #thewaroftheroses #kingofrabbits #karlaneblett #literaryfiction #givemeallthebooks #booksrightnow https://www.instagram.com/p/CcIHcR1rpkJ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hello everyone and hope you had a great week! Mine was super busy, I was at a science 🧪 conference at the beginning of the week and at the end of the week (Thurs and Fri) I was back at work. Time for a book haul! I can’t remember where I heard about The Outsiders now (isn’t that always the way? 😂) but it was exciting enough for me to want it. It’s set in Liverpool 1981 amongst the turmoil of the inner city riots. We meet Paul whom in turn meets two people, Nadezhda and her daughter Sarah, the latter of which he feels an instant connection with. We are taken through Nadezhda’s clandestine background in war-torn Europe and as the summer reaches its climax, his feelings for both are tested amidst secrets, lies and the unravelling of the past. I’ve heard so much about The Push so it was a no brainer to preorder the paperback. I know a few of my #bitcrackbookclub crew have been raving about it so I’m excited. It’s deserved as the most breathtaking debut about motherhood and obsession that you’ll ever read - hmmm sounds intriguing for sure! Finally we’ve got The Lost Boy which had one of the most stunning front covers. I bought this with a voucher after being recommended her work and even though she has a few books out, this stood out to me. “Peter’s idea of fun is sharper than a pirate’s sword. He always wants to be that shining sun that we all revolve around. He’ll do anything to be that sun. Peter promised we would all be young and happy forever. Peter will say that I’m a villain, that I wronged him, that I never was his friend. Peter Lies.” 😳 I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Have a great weekend everyone 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookhoarder #bookhaul #booksperfection #paperbackhaul #theoutsiders #jamescorbett #thepush #ashleyaudrain #thelostboy #christinahenry #beautifulbooks #couldntresistthesebadboys #booklover #bookworm #booksgloriousbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CbQcbzirXRk/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hello everyone and happy Monday! I’ve got a few days off work and I’m looking forward to lots of reading, relaxing and generally enjoying myself. What better way to celebrate then with a book haul? 😜 Katherine Parr is the final book in Alison Weir’s Six Tudor Queens series and I really need to do some catching up with this particular series 🙈 I love the Tudors, I love historical fiction in general and I love Alison Weir’s writing so there’s no excuse! Next up, Milk Fed from the author of The Pisces which was I know quite a polarising book but as it was part of the Women’s Prize longlist a few years ago I’m desperate to read it and it’s been on my shelves a little while. Milk Fed looks just as intriguing not only for the cover or title but for the synopsis. It’s described as a scathingly funny, wildly erotic and fiercely imaginative story about food, sex and God 🤔 Finally we have a nonfiction book that caught my eye - 12 Birds To Save Your Life. If you’ve followed my stories for a little while, you might see that I have quite a menagerie of animals (mostly birds) in my back garden. We have a stream at the end and a small woodland behind that. I’m very lucky to live where I do and it’s one of the reasons why we bought the house. I’ve also got some floor to ceiling patio doors that look out onto the garden from my sitting room and I’ve learned so much more about birds and their behaviour. Hoping this book can teach me even more! I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments and have a great week everyone! 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookstagramuk #bookhaul #bookhoarder #bookheaven #tudorhistory #historicalfiction #sixtudorqueensseries #sixtudorqueenskatharineparr #alisonweir #milkfed #melissabroder #12birdstosaveyourlife #charliecorbett #nonfictionbooks #naturenonfiction #cantstopwontstopbuyingbooks #paperbackhaul #booksineedtoread https://www.instagram.com/p/Caz4rZur6X6/?utm_medium=tumblr

Oh hello Friday, it’s SO good to see you! Let’s celebrate with a book haul 😜 These three paperbacks are a mixed bag but as always, I’m excited to get to two of them and to re-read another. I’ll start with The House Of The Spirits. I read this back in 2012 and loved it and have recently been meaning to pick it up again. Then I saw a used copy being given away at work so I took advantage and grabbed it!! It’s a family saga of triumphs and tragedies and I’m really looking forward to re-reading it again. Next up - Waiting For The Night Song. It’s been described as a love song to the natural beauty around us (okay, SOLD!) a call to fight for what we believe in and a reminder that the truth will always rise. This moving novel about friendships formed in childhood magic and ruptured by the high price of secrets looks so intriguing! Finally, Dog Rose Dirt which I’ve had my eye on since it was released. Serial killer Michael Reave, known as the Red Wolf, has been locked in Belmarsh prison for over 20 years for the brutal and ritualistic murders of countless women. Ex-journalist Heather Evans returns to her childhood home after her mother’s inexplicable suicide to find hundreds of letters between her mother and Reave. If she wants to uncover the truth and stop further bloodshed, she must confront a monster. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Hello everyone and happy Monday to you all! I’m back with another book haul. These three lovely little paperbacks were crying out to be preordered. Honestly they were! 😉😜 These Violent Delights was recommended by my lovely bestie Janel over at @keeperofpages and I managed to pick up the @waterstones exclusive edition with hot sprayed edges which makes me a very happy Beth indeed. This is an imaginative Romeo and Juliet retelling in 1920’s Shanghai with rival gangs and a monster in the depths of the Huangpu river. Yes. I’m sold!! I’m a huge fan of Karin Slaughter and can’t resist when another of her novels comes out in paperback even though I’ve got quite a few to catch up on 🙈 This looks to me one of her stand alone novels and tells the tale of Leigh Collier, a woman who works as a defence attorney but who has also had a traumatic childhood. She is asked to defend a man on multiple counts of rape but then realises she knows him and he has asked for her deliberately. He knows what happened twenty years ago and suddenly she has much more to lose than just this case. Finally we have Cold Boy’s Wood. I absolutely loved Carol Birch’s novel Jamrach’s Menagerie and am hoping to get to more of her backlist. It promises to fuse the ghost story with sharp psychological insight and is an arresting, timely novel about loneliness, buried secrets and the havoc they play on the mind. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments. Hi everyone and happy Monday! It’s the start of another week and I’m here with the first of my book hauls post for the week 😜 I have almost got caught up with the books I’ve bought so I will be dropping these posts once a week from next week 😂 All three of these books caught my eye at a recent visit to @66bookclub_ with @keeperofpages and I’m looking forward to picking them up! I’ve had A Gentleman In Moscow by Amor Towles on my shelves for the longest time so when I saw Rules Of Civility I had to pick it up too. It follows a woman called Katey Kontent on the last night of 1937 where she is in a jazz bar watching a quartet because she can’t afford the whole ensemble. By the end of the year she has learned many things including how to live like a redhead and how to insist upon the very best. Embarrassingly, I’ve just checked Goodreads to help with the synopsis and it turns out I’ve already read this book and rated it 3.5 stars. I don’t remember reading it at all!! 🙈 I’m going to give it another go! 🤣😅 The Princess Bride is one I have to admit I’ve never read or seen the cult film before. I definitely haven’t, I promise 😂 This follows a beautiful girl who marries the handsomest prince of all time and he turns out to be quite different than the man of her dreams. Finally, Janel convinced me to pick up The Method. It’s about a sixteen year old girl who is pregnant and kidnapped. However, what happens when the victim is more dangerous than the captors? 🤔 I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Hello everyone and hope your Monday has got off to a great start! It’s time for a book haul. 😁 Why Visit America has been on my radar for a little while. This is a short story collection where each story covers a different genre i.e. fantasy, horror, western, dystopian, rom com, erotica and a noir detective mystery. Read together, they form a portrait of the USA and a Through The Looking Glass reflection of the country. I adore Sarah Moss’ writing and am gradually making her way through her back catalogue. Ghost Wall was the next on the list. It urges us to explore just how far we have come compared to the “primitive” minds of our ancestors. Finally, Blonde Roots by Bernardine Evaristo is another author that I’ve recently discovered and am desperate to read more of. This book follows Doris from England who is playing hide and seek with her friends then a bag is put over her head and she finds herself on a slave ship on the way to the New World. The author presents an inversion of the transatlantic slave trade where the “whytes,” are enslaved by black people. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Hello everyone and happy Friday to you all! I’ve had an amazing day today as I’ve had the day off from work and it’s been so lovely. Time to celebrate with a book haul 😉 I’ve added two more VMC Designer Collection books with absolutely stunning covers. Good Behaviour follows the forces of sex, money jealousy and love which are locked out by the rituals of good behaviour. Sounds intriguing! 🤔 Meanwhile, A Game Of Hide And Seek follows characters who are caught out by their own desires and decisions and they demand our attention. Finally, I have Full Dark, No Stars by the master that is Stephen King. Now I do already have this collection in hardback but this edition has an extra story in that I’m reading with my #keeperofking bookclub this month so of course I couldn’t resist! I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Hello everyone and hope you’ve had a great week. Today it’s book haul time again! You’d think I’d be coming to the end of hauls to share but there are plenty more to come. Anyone surprised?! 😂 Even though I’ve never read any Elena Ferrante before, I’m looking forward to The Lying Life Of Adults and am planning to read it with the gorgeous @emmasbookishcorner This story follows Giovanna in her transition from childhood through adolescence to adulthood. This Poison Heart is the young adult follow up to Cinderella Is Dead (which I STILL haven’t read 😂) It’s a completely separate story though and the first book in a new contemporary fantasy series which follows a young woman who has extraordinary powers with plants. Finally, Tsarina looks to be a gorgeous historical novel about a young woman in Russia in 1699 called Marta who is illegitimate, destitute and sold into labour at 15 years old. She catches the eye of Peter the Great and this is her story of the journey to become Catherine I of Russia. This however comes at a steep price and involves the destiny of Russia as an empire. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Time for a Friday book haul! I’ve ended my Friday in bed unfortunately after a busy week. Ah the joys of chronic illness 🙄 it won’t stop me from sharing my Friday book haul with you though! After The Silence is the latest book from an author I really admire. I’m a bit behind on her books but hope to get caught up soon. I really enjoyed the short story collection Diving Belles by Lucy Wood so when I saw this ex library copy on sale for a bargain price of £1, I couldn’t resist it. Finally, it seemed like everyone was talking about Mexican Gothic last year and I’m ready to buy into that hype!! I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. It’s Friday!! That means it’s time for another book haul 😂 and today I’ve got three fantastic paperbacks to show you. I can’t remember where I heard about The Exiles now but I know I was excited for it 🤔 Swan Song was bought so that I can read all the Women’s Prize longlisted books ever! Finally we have The Woman In The Purple Skirt which I’ve had on my radar for a little while and then my bestie @keeperofpages did a wonderful review on her page which just made me glad I had preordered it! 😂 As always, I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Hello everyone and hope your week is going well? Today it’s part 13 of my enormous book haul and as always, these three beauties I just couldn’t resist! The Yellow House is a nonfiction memoir and described as “a brilliant account of life before and after Hurricane Katrina.” It was also one of Barack Obama’s books of the year. That’s enough for me to want to pick it up! To Be Taught If Fortunate is a stand alone science fiction novella from Becky Chambers. I love her Wayfarers series from what I’ve read so far (still only the first book 😂) so this was a must buy. Finally, I was reminded about Jamrach’s Menagerie a while ago as being one of my favourite books. I hadn’t thought about it for a while and when I did, I realised I only had a copy on my Kindle. A hard copy for my favourites shelves was absolutely necessary! 😜 I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors.
