Carlo Maratti (b.1625 - d.1713), three versions of 'Portrait of Maria Maddalena Rospigliosi Panciatichi (b.1645 - d.1695), the niece of Pope Clement IX'; variously attributed circa 1665 to 1711 for the Christies work, c.1667 to 1670 for the Barberini version, to c.1697 for the Louvre version, all oil on canvas, Italian.
The first, from the Louvre, Paris; the second from the Palazzo Barberini, Rome; the third, sold at Christies, London, c.2012, for 79,250 GBP. The Barberini portrait is considered the earliest, according to Christies, with the remainder being by the hand of the studio, but this is unconfirmed.
The Louvre example was acquired amongst multiple pieces for 20,000 francs in 1822, kept at St. Cloud. The Barberini example was recorded in an inventory of the Casa Barberini c.1844, shown in the Galleria Borghese in 1931. The Christies version likely descends from the collection of the Duke Giovanni Battista Rospigliosi, of the Palazzo Rospigliosi, before 1713, whose uncle was Pope Clement IX.
