An excerpt from the trial of Elinor Crane, who was arrested in Middlesex in 1693 on suspicion of burglary. A witness claimed one of the burglars was a woman in men's clothing, and Elinor had previously been seen in the area dressed as a man.
"But the Court asking her why she went in Mans Apparel, the Prisoner replyed, She went to Wooe a Widow. Upon the whole Matter the Jury brought her in not Guilty."

Deliverance Dress (Two Ways) - BGC
Simblreen 2022 - Treat 1 (First paragraph contains references to the Salem Witch Trials)
Deliverance “Liv” Trembley lives with her sister Mem in Salem Village, Massachusetts Bay Colony. When their uncle leaves to find work, the girls have to cover for his absence and their lack of guardianship until their brother Ben can return from the militia. The situation worsens when a few of the local girls start complaining of an affliction, blaming it on villagers practicing witchcraft. Liv begins to spend time with Goodwife Martha Corey, who is brave enough to call the witch hunt nonsense. But when Goodwife Corey is accused by her own husband and Mem grows suspicious, Liv realizes that no one is safe, including herself. With no hope of their uncle coming home and providing protection, can Liv and Mem hold out long enough for Ben to come back?
The collar is from @waxesnostalgic’s 1917 Girls Dress, and swatches are in the Vintage Neutrals palette. I made two versions, one with bows on the bodice like in the original portrait, and the other without the bows.
