#TalDiaComoHoy en 1964 nace en Ocumare del Tuy Oswaldo Guillén, conocido como Ozzie Guillén beisbolista venezolano. Inició su carrera de beisbolista profesional con los Tiburones de La Guaira en 1981, cuando tenía 17 años. Fue entrenado por Ernesto Aparicio, tío del famoso beisbolista Luis Aparicio. Ganó el guante de oro 1990 y se convirtió en el segundo venezolano que lo gana para la posición de shortstop en la liga americana. Josef Martinez's goals give making Venezuelans proud

As Josef Martinez bamboozled a handful of Orlando City SC defenders on Friday night and lifted his record-breaking 28th goal of the season over Joe Bendik, there couldn’t have been a more appropriate voice on the broadcast.

Alejandro Moreno, ESPN analyst and fellow Venezuelan, was on the call as color commentator and passionately punctuated Martinez’s record-breaking goal.

“Now and forevermore: VAMOS VENEZUELA!”

With Venezuela facing political and economic turmoil, the importance of the record-breaking goal was not lost on Moreno, whose international career overlapped with the beginning of Martinez’s. After the game, ESPN captured Moreno’s heartfelt congratulations to Martinez.

“Brother, we are all very proud of you,” Moreno said in Spanish. “Know that an entire country is with you, I’m with you, and I wish you the best for what’s left of the season. You don’t know how proud I am of you.”

Both on the broadcast and on ESPN FC this weekend, Moreno organically illuminated the problems currently facing Venezuela and put into context why Martinez’s season is so powerful to his homeland.

“The current situation in Venezuela, the political instability and social unrest – when you have a country in financial chaos and there are no answers in the near future, there’s a hemorrhage of human talent leaving the country because it’s nearly impossible to actually live and survive in Venezuela,” Moreno said, “This moment of Josef Martinez doing what he’s doing in Major League Soccer it provides a moment of hope, it provides respite, it provides a moment to be proud of Venezuela and those moments are very difficult to find in the current situation in our country.

“When Venezuela turns this around – and hopefully sooner [rather] than later – whenever it does happen, it’s going to be because of the talent of the Venezuelan people. And there’s no better example of the talent of Venezuelan people than what we’re seeing right now from Josef Martinez.”

The single-season record is yet another that Martinez now holds in MLS and, depending on how many more goals he can score in Atlanta United’s last eight games of the season, it might be a long time before his record is broken.

“Hopefully, this is something that Venezuelan people can rally around and can feel very proud of,” Moreno said. “And if it’s only for a brief second that they can forget about survival, they can forget about what’s currently going on there, then Josef Martinez is doing all the Venezuelan people a favor.”

Like Moreno, other notable Venezuelans were quick to congratulate their compatriot.

Opinión: Omar Vizquel enfrenta un gran reto

Redacción LPBB, Robinson Alvarez Viña (@RobyKing).- Decisión tomada, Omar Vizquel fue anunciado como mánager de la selección nacional de beisbol en una decisión que sorprendió a propios y extraños. No porque no se considere que el próximo miembro de Cooperstown no tenga las aptitudes para ser mánager sino porqué se terminó descartando a nada más y nada menos que a "Ozzie" Guillén con argumentos bastante extraños. Lo cierto es que Vizquel hará su estreno en un torneo que año a año cobra más importancia, sobretodo para Venezuela que se dice es una potencia en beisbol pero ha quedado a deber en torneos internacionales como este, mundiales pasados organizados por otro ente y la Serie del Caribe por ejemplo: ¿Tiene Vizquel las aptitudes para ser mánager de la selección en este momento? Tras descartar a Guillén no hay dudas de que un hombre con la cualidad de líder y manejo de grupo merecía la oportunidad de tomar el mando. Las dudas en Vizquel aparecen a nivel de estrategia, si bien conocemos la inteligencia de Vizquel para jugar el beisbol, nunca ha tenido la experiencia de ser mánager. ¿Es un experimento lo de Vizquel? Los mejores inventos salen tras largas pruebas de ensayo y error, Venezuela no podía darse el lujo de descartar a un hombre con la trayectoria de Guillén; sin embargo, si puede darse lujo de darle la oportunidad al próximo Salón de la Fama venezolano. Es el momento, Omar Vizquel aceptó el reto y hay que apoyarlo en su decisión, ha estado entrenándose como técnico en los últimos años con organizaciones de Grandes Ligas y esta oportunidad de ser mánager se la dan en su tierra. Ya tiene una idea bastante clara de cual será su lineup y es una oportunidad interesante de ver crecer aún más a un personaje tan querido del beisbol venezolano.

Ozzie Guillén sería el nuevo mánager de Tiburones

Robinson Alvarez Viña (@RobyKing).- Una fuente ligada a la organización de Tiburones B.B.C. que pidió ser no identificada afirmó que Oswaldo “Ozzie” Guillén, único mánager latinoamericano en quedar campeón de una Serie Mundial, estaba contratado como nuevo mánager de los Tiburones de La Guaira para la próxima campaña.

Pocas horas después de que corrieran los rumores, “Ozzie” (como se le conoce) publicó una foto en su cuenta de Instagram donde aparece tomado de la mano con el vicepresidente de los “escualos” (Antonio José Herrera), junto a su compañero de labores en ESPN, Luis Alfredo Álvarez. Sin embargo, no confirmó nada sobre su contratación.

Quedaría esperar un pronunciamiento oficial de parte del equipo de prensa de Tiburones de La Guaira, su directiva o el mismo “Ozzie” Guillén quien se esperaba tomara el puesto de mánager en la selección nacional para el Clásico Mundial de Beisbol.
