‘Get rid of the cleaners, rubbish collectors, bus drivers, supermarket checkout staff and secretaries, for example, and society will very quickly grind to a halt. On the other hand, if we woke up one morning to find that all the highly paid advertising executives, management consultants and private equity directors had disappeared, society would go on much as it did before: in a lot of cases, probably quite a bit better. So to begin with, workers need to reclaim a sense of pride and social worth. Doing so would be a big step forward in making the case that the wages and conditions of low-paid jobs must be improved in order to reflect the importance they have in all our lives.’
– Owen Jones, Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class (2020)

The work of Owen Jones never ceases to amaze 🤩 This is his 1861 Victoria Psalter, executed in stunning chromolithography for the Queen of England. It features a striking “relievo” binding, made of heavily molded leather – it feels very similar to papier-mâché. Jones took inspiration for his illustrations from a variety of medieval manuscript sources. It’s the height of the Gothic Revival in book form!

A new consensus has emerged in British politics: peaceful protesters are dangerous, hateful extremists, but apologists for the mass slaughter of tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians are mainstream, respectable moderates. From his prime ministerial bully pulpit, Rishi Sunak declares there is a “growing consensus” that “mob rule is replacing democratic rule”. The world has been turned upside down, and you are entitled to ask why.
I'm not keen generally to give The Guardian clicks, as it's centrist central, but this is an excellent article by Owen Jones. Please read and share it, even if you're not in the UK - people need to know what this country is.

i highly recommend this video by British journalist Owen Jones if u wanna learn ab israel's pinkwashing. essentially their strategy is saying 'oh but palestine isnt ok with lgbtq people, so why do you care if a genocide is enacted upon them?' - thereby somehow tryna legitimise genocide in the West's eyes.
just because a people may not agree with homosexuality in their religion, it in no way justifies their murder, suffering, and oppression.
owen also spotlights queer palestinian voices and organisations in this vid, bc it's important we hear directly from them!
he also discusses how when britain colonised palestine, they brought in the law criminalising homosexuality. lots to learn in this vid about islam and palestine's real views on it, now and throughout history (which is actually far more relaxed than you may know)
if you're in london, follow @queersforpalestine on instagram - a group who have a queer bloc during all the london marches, do local events, join other pro-palestine groups in actions, etc.

I have to commend Owen for keeping his emotions in check here because if it was me I would have already had my hands around that little weasel’s neck and squeezed the life out of him.
I mean, how dare Hen ask why Owen cares about this, what’s his stake in this? Maybe because, like he said himself, he’s human and condemn genocide? Hen believed that he could make Owen look like an idiot on tv, but instead Owen revealed to the world that the fool is Hen.
Also, Owen if you ever read this, sorry for my earlier post about your interview with the Israeli soldier. I should have watched it first before jumping the gun, so I am very sorry for that. Continue to fight the good fight🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

Owen Jones is as much an evolution-denier and creationist as Ken Ham.
Sex-based differences in toy selection are demonstrable in other primates, who don't have a plausible mechanism for social constructivism.

So, for feminist Blank Slateism to say that we alone are immune to the same forces as our ape relatives is overtly a denial of evolution, or at minimum to suggest that these sex-based differences mysteriously disappeared in our evolutionary line alone for no apparent reason, but then re-emerged, identically, as social constructions.
That's creationism.

Thinking English majors who don't understand anything about biology could explain human nature and behavior better than actual scientists is one of the most braindead notions of the last couple of decades.
People who subscribe to "the patriarchy" to explain differences between male and female, woman and man, are evolution-denying creationist cranks and should be treated with the same scorn and derision as people who believe in Noah's magic zoo boat.
