HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEAN DUBUFFET!

Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) “looked to the margins of the everyday—the art of prisoners, psychics, the uneducated, and the institutionalized—to liberate his own creativity, coining the term “Art Brut” in 1947 as a reflection of the creative possibilities outside the conventions of the day.”

“Art Brut”, or “raw art”, as described by Dubuffet as self-taught artists presenting “works produced by persons unscathed by artistic culture, where mimicry plays little or no part (contrary to the activities of intellectuals). These artists derive everything...from their own depths, and not from the conventions of classical or fashionable art." their experiences outside the restrictive bounds of society.”

Here we see “Fait Memorables I”, 1978, a ‘Dubuffet over the buffet’ for art collectors in Westchester. The parchment clad cabinet from @mattalianodesign is a cabinet originally designed by @jeanmichelfrank, in a room we designed with a remarkable custom ‘Bauhaus Red’ wall paint developed by @donaldkaufmancolor.

Art Brut has come to include “Outsider Art” created by psychiatric patients, prisoners and outcasts, the works illustrate their fragile mental states and unorthodox perspectives of the world.

Although the roots of Outsider Art can be traced back thousands of years, intuitive depictions. Outsider Art has become both normalized and celebrated; the @outsiderartfair was founded in New York City in 1993 and remains a thrilling and provocative opportunity to see and purchase Art Brut.

Sometimes we feel so low No-one to talk to and no where to go. The moods that lift us are absent and in the shadows, as we grasp for air drowning in our sorrow. The pain and the hurt resurfaces again, old patterns and memories tearing us apart. But arnt they just feelings emotions and more is this not the time to inner explore? What is this storm that comes unsought? Is it another reminder of lessons to be taught? So to action and seek shelter we must even out the edges clean out the rust. The shadows and darkness that seems to be all, will slowly recede as we boldly call a friend a loved one a power beyond lets dance through our troubles each and everyone. Take time to be still in the day its just another battle coming our way, as soldiers of progress for that which we seek lets unite together and promises keep.
