the adds prioritize their business and sales above relationships in general, but then again i'd feel like they think they're fun

Every single one of those posts that tells people they should at least reblog some of the stuff they like has the replies FILLED with people saying that you can't tell anyone what to do and like. yeah i guess there's always been lurkers on here but like. you realize the people saying this are doing it because they love the culture on this site and don't want to see it taken over by people who refuse to engage with content in a meaningful way.
you don't have to reblog every single thing you like (and hell since reblogs are now something that can be turned off, sometimes you cant) but like. you should reblog some things. whether its memes or fanart or fanfic or informational posts or whatever. you could also try to start a gimmick blog that posts a specific type of content and you can utilize the tags to get out there since plenty of people do check general tags on this site. you can also have side blogs if you want! which can be themed around specific things! this is also a super common thing!
you're new here so you're still feeling things out and trying to get your foot in the door so just start reblogging content and following people. i know some of you are looking to gain a big following really quickly but tbh growth on this site is incredibly slow so you have to be patient and you have to put in the effort to get real people interested in following you, and your reblogs can say a lot about you

something I'm especially sorry about was treating your issues like they weren't as big as mine. I realize now how much you were suffering, and I was too blindsided by my own mental illness to see how terribly you were feeling and how unsupported you were. I remember feeling like I had to placate you because if I didn't things would fall apart again, and that isn't fair to you. I treated your feelings like an inconvenience and that you werent smart enough to get what was going on because I supposedly had so much more experience in suffering. that's not what good friends do to other friends.
anyway. I don't know if you'll ever read this or see it or whatever, but. I don't know how I feel about you. you represent the memories of a lot of pain from around that time in my mind. I don't HATE you, but I'd rather not think about you for too long. I'm very happy to see that you seem to be doing way better, though. you deserve that, and don't let shitty people like I was in the past hold you back

Writing tips for long fics that helped me that no one asked for.
1.) Don't actually delete content from your WIP unless it is minor editing - instead cut it and put it in a secondary document. If you're omitting paragraphs of content, dialog, a whole scene you might find a better place for it later and having it readily available can really save time. Sometimes your idea was fantastic, but it just wasn't in the right spot.
2.) Stuck with wording the action? Just write the dialog then revisit it later.
3.) Stuck on the whole scene? Skip it and write the next one.
4.) Write on literally any other color than a white background. It just works. (I use black)
5.) If you have a beta, while they are beta-ing have them read your fic out loud. Yes, I know a lot of betas/writers do not have the luxury of face-timing or have the opportunity to do this due to time constraints etc but reading your fic out loud can catch some very awkward phrasing that otherwise might be missed. If you don't have a beta, you read it out loud to yourself. Throw some passion into your dialog, you might find a better way to word it if it sounds stuffy or weird.
6.) The moment you have an idea, write it down. If you don't have paper or a pen, EMAIL it to yourself or put it in a draft etc etc. I have sent myself dozens of ideas while laying down before sleep that I 10/10 forgot the next morning but had emailed them to myself and got to implement them.
7.) Remember - hits/likes/kudos/comments are not reflective of the quality of your fic or your ability to write. Most people just don't comment - even if they say they do, they don't, even if they preach all day about commenting, they don't, even if they are a very popular blog that passionately reminds people to comment - they don't comment (I know this personally). Even if your fic brought tears to their eyes and it haunted them for weeks and they printed it out and sent it to their friends they just don't comment. You just have to accept it. That being said - comment on the fic you're reading now, just do it, if you're 'shy' and that's why you don't comment the more you comment the better you'll get at it. Just do it.
8.) Remove unrealistic daily word count goals from your routine. I've seen people stress 1500 - 2000 words a day and if they don't reach that they feel like a failure and they get discouraged. This is ridiculous. Write when you can, but remove absurd goals. My average is 500 words a day in combination with a 40 hour a week job and I have written over 200k words from 2022-2023.
9.) There are dozens of ways to do an outline from precise analytical deconstruction that goes scene by scene to the minimalist bullet point list - it doesn't matter which one you use just have some sort of direction. A partial outline is better than no outline.
10.) Write for yourself, not for others. Write the fic you know no one is going to read. Write the fic that sounds ridiculous. You will be so happy you put it out in the world and there will be people who will be glad it exists.

went to guitar store today and had a typical guitar store interaction. I told the dude at the counter what I was looking for, he pointed in a direction, and the dude that overheard me ask then kinda followed me in that direction and pointed out a piece of gear to me and told me it was really good option. I did not ask for this. I did not even really notice him before then. I didn't say anything and waited for him to walk away.
Once I reached the indicated corner of the store, I asked another dude my question and then had the typical experience of someone else that worked there overhearing us and deciding to interrupt both me and their coworker several times as we talked about the thing, adding nothing to the conversation because they would say something and trail off and then come back again and do it all again
#the only thing I'll say to defend these people is that the guitar gear world is terribly elitist and superstitious#So when you're a dude and you like gear and you end up knowing relatively useless facts - you just NEED to tell someone#BUT bc most dudes are terribly socialized they struggle to hold a conversation esp about technical topics#and so they don't often feel fulfilled talking to other gear-heads#They have so many toys and hardly nobody to tell about them#the general world of dudes is this sterile place where they hardly converse about things - not for lack of want tho#layers and layers of poor socialization about how to converse and how to share and how to negotiate it all in everday settings#I just want to understand the 'why' behind electric guitar sound or tone and not be preached to#can't we all be curious together and share knowledge in useful ways???#can't we find a way to have the least amount of gear possible and understand why and how that's all we need?#it drives me crazy to be around deeply technical people that can't communicate their knowledge well to anyone#unless you already know how to jump past the nonsense the answer to any gear question will be useless#'ya definitely get the Gibsal Slammer - it has the most push into the knobs of any of the sledges on the market today'#'it's what hendrix used for that album he recorded at Abby Blvd with the Left Gents'#'if you roll back the ringles just a little you'll get what George Nixon called 'almond tone''#'unless you fully inflate the fujoMax 1000 you'll never have enough underwire for that really wooly swirl'#my blog#electric guitar#guitar#gear head

i'm actually not really active in any genshin servers bc i tend to be really shy abt interacting w/them, though literally just a few days ago i met this guy in co op mode who mentioned a ganqing server, and upon further discussion we realized we were both in it, which was very surprising bc there are like literally 30 people in there. so i Have been thinking abt becoming active in there, but i suspect you are not looking to enter the gq scene ahaha
anyway, in regards to a xv server, According To My Research(tm), there used to be one a long time ago! i was never in it, obviously, but i went server hopping a while back to try to find it at a friend's request, and from what i have gathered (by searching up "xiaoven" in various tangentially related genshin ship servers), what happened is that it got really toxic and insular and then eventually imploded/got deleted sometime in... march or april of this year, i wanna say?
and then due to various factors the xv community just never really recovered from that so what i've been saying we should do-- *gets crushed by a cork board covered in red strings before i can continue*
ahem SO ANYWAY yeah i totally understand the "isolated fan" feeling/experience, but if you want, i could direct you to some of my tumblr mutuals if you wanna kinda lurk in my circle for a bit before joining in!! you'll probably just be like "this is the most random collection of people i've ever seen in my life" but i mean like,,, that's kind of how every community ever has started?? so might as well give it a shot :D
