Best Pokémon Protagonist Tournament- Stats Breakdown!

After many weeks of voting, we concluded that Tumblr's favourite Protagonist is Akari- but we still have a lot of other data to sift through that we can learn from! Read more to find out about the most and least popular matches, the averages, and maybe most importantly- who won the biggest sweep?

As usual, let's start with the total number of votes across the whole tournament. This time it was 15,433 votes over 25 matches for an average 617 votes per match- slightly lower than our last tournament (20,353 total and 727 average) but still the second most popular tournament we've run. If you include the preliminaries, however, the total number of votes increases to 21,204 over 35 matches and 1 tiebreaker- an average of 589.

Next up, a look at the average votes a contestant brought in- who was a bigger draw than the others? Who inspired the most enthusiastic voting? When we rank them, this is how it stacks up:

Through this ranking, we can get a general idea of the top ten (according to our voters anyway), and yes, as we all observed in the tournament, the girls are far more popular! 80% of the top 10 are ladies, and only 2 men are in the top half at all- 3 if you include Ethan sitting in exactly the middle.

Of specific note, the top 3 are indeed our medal winners, though Hilda and Akari are swapped in position- and we're about to see that same phenomenom in the next list. And poor Florian sits at the bottom, only 80 votes to his name, proving beyond a doubt that the girls are more popular when his counterpart who wears the exact same outfit sits several places higher in 17th.

Okay! On to average vote share. When comparing our contestants, who- on average anyway- took home the biggest proportion of the votes within their matches? And yes, I've already given you a little spoiler about our top two.

With a few notable differences, this list is largely similar to the last- in fact our top 10 are identical, albeit with the rankings shifted around a bit. Dawn loses her 3rd place spot to Gloria, and Red is barely hanging on to the 10th spot, but he's still there!

As I mentioned before, Hilda tops this list, not Akari- it seems increasingly clear that with how popular she is, only Akari could've beaten her for that gold medal! Down at the other end though, Florian manages not to be last, this time only losing to his female counterpart- perhaps the girls aren't always popular after all? But it's hard to argue against the same proportion of boys in the top half as before- only 2 (with that coveted middle spot now going to Lucas instead of Ethan).

Now time for my one and only graph! I think it's nice to have some data in a visual form, but I try and keep the important stuff in text form so it's easy to read and more accurate. But here's our lovely pie chart of what proportion of the total tournament votes each contestant got.

Last but by no means least, it's time for individual match stats.

The most voted on match was Round 1: Match 8, Juliana vs Hilda, with 964 votes- just shy of 1,000. Closely following behind it was the finals, with 939 votes. On the other end, the least voted on poll (outside of the preliminaries, which had on average lower votes anyway) was Round 3: Match 3, May vs Gloria, with 483 votes. With only 3 votes more at 486, was Round 2: Match 7, Florian vs Hilda.

Individually, the person to gain the most votes in a single poll was Hilda, once again in that Round 1 match where she got 809 votes! Poor Florian in his Round 2 match got only 80 votes, however- the least in a single match.

The last thing we always look at is margins. For the closest match this competition, we look to Round 2: Match 3, Red vs Lyra. While it shares the exact same 4.6% margin as the final match did, the vote margin was smaller, with only 30 votes separating them (compared to 43 in the finals).

And now- the biggest sweep. Here we specifically look at margins, not votes, but in this case it's one and the same. The match we keep mentioning- Round 1: Match 8- ended in a huge 67.8% margin, or 654 votes. Hilda may not have won the gold in the tournament porper, but she absolutely swept the competition in these stats, and earns herself a spot in the biggest sweep hall of fame.

Pokémon Legends Arceus Brainrot

Basically, what it would be like if other protagonists landed in Hisui.

I know these games have been out for a while now, but I still felt like tagging for spoilers just in case someone new to the series wanted to start playing spoiler free.

Because it's in my head right now, here's what I think the Pokémon Split Timelines are and my "Maybe Cannon Thoughts" are. (Thanks for this XY. we LOVE split timelines.)

Mega Timeline:

LGPE - HGSS (I like to think the remakes are all in the Mega Timeline, no reason tbh.)- ORAS - BDSP - BW/B2W2 - XY (duh) - SM/USUM - SwSh - SV. (Due to Ash Greninja being alluded to in that one painting in Nemona's House and the Crater being theorized to be created by AZ's Weapon, I think its fair to say SV is in the Mega Timeline. also Roaring Moon exists.

Regular Timeline:

RBGY - GSC - RSE - DPPt - BW/B2W2 (No Remake yet so it still fits. Thanks Pokémon ZaZa.) - Gen 6 is in the air - Gen 7, Ditto. - SwSh fits both ways. - SV is kinda in the air as well.

Also just cus, here's who I think are the Cannon Protag/MC choices are and why. (And if both Gender Variants canonically exist.)

Gen 1 - Red (Duh. it's Red.) (Also Red is the only one that exists. (Leaf Represent))

Gen 2 - Ethan (Mainly cus that Ethan VS Red fight on Mt. Silver is just TOO ICONIC.) (Kris and Lyra don't exist.)

Gen 3 - Brendan (Mainly cus he looks more like Norman than May does.) (Both Brendan and May exist tho.)

Gen 4 - Kinda in the air, but I tend to rock with Dawn being cannon. (Meaning that Rei is her Cannon Ancestor in LA.) (Dawn and Lucas both exist, but ONLY Rei exists. No Akari.)

Gen 5 - Hilda and Rosa (no reason. I just like them more.) (Nate and Hilbert don't exist.)

Gen 6 - Serena (Mainly cus I like to think Calem's the Professors son, or at least related to him.) (Also Both exist YIPPIE!)

Gen 7 - Also in the air, Selene and Elio are literally fucking twins. (Also only one exists.)

Gen 8 - Gloria. You know I'm right. (Victor does not exist. Only Gloria.)

Gen 9 - Either works. They didn't even try to make Florian and Juliana their own person in general. (Also only one exists.)

AN INTRODUCTION TO MY PAGE!

Hi, my name is AJ, but you can call me whatever you feel like! I’m 19, and I’m trying to garner enough writing experience to maybe some day open up commissions. This blog is centered around Pokémon, so if you want to see something, leave an ask!

ASKS are always open, for any requests! It could be headcanons, a oneshot or maybe something a bit longer.

I specialize in writing ficlets on the fluffier side of the spectrum, but sometimes I will take up angst. Smut is out of the question, because I’m uncomfortable with writing that kind of content.

I have some boundaries I would like to set for my ASKS/REQUESTS. You can request the following without incident: CHAR x CHAR, CHAR x READER, CHAR and CHAR, CHAR and READER.

As for ships, I will NOT be writing anything that is considered the following: Incest, Minor x Adult, Large Age Gaps (BIGGER THAN 3 YEARS), Teacher x Student, Poképhilia (Pokémon x CHAR), or any other fucked up subject of the sort.

Most of my present-day knowledge is provided via the Mainstream Games, and not the Television Show. My knowledge on the show is very, very limited as the last time I watched it was when Black and White was still running.

pokemon protagonist naming conventions

im posting a lot today but like

has anyone else noticed that even though they stopped naming pokemon protagonists after the games (a la Red, Kris, etc.) they still follow a theme???

Like in dppt Lucas and Dawn makes sense because Dawn is.. dawn and lucas means lightbringer or something adjacent to that as well BUT in black and white it gets a bit weirder because like. Hilbert and Hilda???? What does that even mean

ACTUALLY they both derive from proto-Germanic "hild" meaning battle which is a reference to the whole truth and ideals thing AND THEN in b2w2 Nate and Rosa is taken from resonate!! because the point of that game is the resonance/harmony between truth and ideals!!

in XY Calem comes from calm and serena comes from serene that's kind of obvious. Maybe its french idk gen 7 has elio (helios, sun) and selene (moon) chase and elaine??? in lgpe????? i dont know they kind of. dropped the ball swsh has victor and gloria. this is super obvious its victory and glory

rei and akari in legends arceus is cute. rei is obv from ray (of light) and akari is from japanese meaning light

in sv they have florian and juliana. probably the most fruity protagonist names to be honest florian probably means flower (expert guess) and juliana ...??????? bulbapedia says that it comes from spanish juvenil but umm........sure okay weird choice but then again its pokemon

Half Moon Datas #5

While Emmet, Hilbert and Hilda are in Hisui to search and stop the culprits behind the space-time rifts incidents (and bring back Ingo and Lucas home, of course), Althea and Dawn investigated on another mystery on their side: the circumstances of Lucas’ disappearance. Why did Arceus chosed him of all people to send into the past? Lucas said to Hilbert that it wanted him to record the first original Pokedex, but why giving this task to a kid from the future and not a native of that time like Akari?

Maybe something in Lucas’ life could’ve make Arceus chose him as its “chosen one” rather than another sinnohian.

Dawn has known Lucas since practically birth; they share many of their memories together and have a deep bond. However, the young girl doesn't know much about her boyfriend's family. He wasn't very talkative about it - and hasn't been since they were kids - and she's never seen him with any other family member besides his mother, Leila. She has never seen or heard about his father. Moreover, Lucas used to spend a lot of time at his friend's house, while Dawn rarely went to his house. The teenager never asked him about this because she suspected it must be something difficult for him... That said, if the reason Arceus sent Lucas to Hisui was hiding in that grey area, then she had to talk to Leila.

Dawn then went to Lucas' house. The poor woman hardly goes out since her son's disappearance except to run errands or by invitation from Dawn's mother Johanna. She continues to maintain the house with great care and to smile at others, but the dark circles under her eyes and her shaded irises show her lack of sleep due to her grief. The champion knew from her mother that Leila was approached by quite a few journalists following Lucas' disappearance, some of whom were more interested in sensationalizing the case than in being truly sympathetic to her, although she was less exposed to the media than Emmet (and Dawn to a lesser extent). That's why it took her a while to tell Leila the reason for her visit... To which Leila reassured her that she could ask her whatever she wanted because she knows that Dawn is a kind and caring girl. She has known her since she was a child, after all, and she considers her a member of her family.

Relieved by these words, Dawn then asked Leila what life was like in the house. Leila replied that her husband Logan mysteriously disappeared sometime after Lucas was born, when he was doing archaeological research at Mont Coronet. The police searched the mountain for a long time to find him, but the case was eventually closed due to a lack of clues and leads. Leila had to raise her son alone, and although neither she nor Lucas felt any resentment towards Logan (sinnohians know the dangers of the mountain), his absence left a mark on the family. Although Lucas didn’t show it in front of his loved ones, he sometimes felt sad about not having a father, expressing this feeling when he was alone in his room. This is why the young man appreciates Dillan, Dawn's father; he is the only adult man in his immediate circle whom is a father figure to him.

Learning this, combined with Althea's research about the myths and legends of Sinnoh’s deities, the mystery dissipates: in Hisui's time, the rivalry between members of the Diamond and Pearl clans was causing trouble in the region, which wasn’t helped by Kamado's paranoia, the archaic beliefs of the population, and the fear of humans towards Pokemon. Seeing this, Arceus decided that a new wind had to blow in Hisui to give birth to the region of Sinnoh as we know it today. It then looked for a candidate for this task and its attention gradually turned to Lucas; as God, it was easy for it to discover his past. Since he was a teenager from the future, a time when humans and Pokemon live together in peace and who turned out to be a kind-hearted person as well as an excellent trainer, Arceus considered him the perfect candidate and sent him to Hisui with the official mission of "recording the Pokemon of the region", with the aim of taking him around Hisui and helping the population to open up to others as well as the rest of the world, although he involuntarily lost his memory during his space-time transportation.

However, as ancient, powerful, omniscient and omnipotent as it was, Arceus remains a Pokemon... A deitiful one, but nonetheless a Pokemon. It understands the concept of emotions, morals and human relationships, but as an immortal being, it doesn't really understand why humans value their relationships with others, whose life expectancy isn’t as long as its own. Arceus thought he gave Lucas a new and happier life by taking him to Hisui, even without his original memories... Without suspecting that Lucas himself didn’t want to change his life, even less living in an archaic time where danger could jump at him at any moment. Sure, he is sad not to know his father, but he is genuinely happy to live with his mother, his girlfriend Dawn and his best friend Barry. He wouldn't trade this happiness for anything in the world, even for an adventure beyond time... But Arceus somehow forced his hand. Not becauce it is evil or out of malice, but out of unwitting ignorance.

A mistake that led to Dawn and Leila’s grief, the estrangement between Dawn and Barry and the withdrawal of the two of them.

The Silver Phantom AU: I like good angst. But what if when they return to their jobs and Akari is off with Lucas and Barry just having being kids. And they were ambushed by both Team Galatic and Team Plasma?

It’s like the two evil organisations joined forced to grab this specific kid that somehow befriended Arceus and the other Legendaries?

This will definitely send both Ingo and Emmet into panic mode before it’s exactly like how Volo did it back in Hisui.

Lucas and Barry leading the rescue team to beat the absolute shit out of Cyrus and Ghetsis.

First of all, this got me thinking about just HOW LONG it's going to take for the three of them to reintegrate into society.

Like, they have to get some memories back, relearn modern tech, relearn social skills, find a way to cope with their anxiety of people that's accumulated over five years, it'll probably be AGES before it's safe to leave them alone in public! Not to mention the fact that Ingo and Emmet live in Unova and Akari lives in Sinnoh, and will likely want to go home with her parents once everything's okay, but we got separation anxiety too! We got a whole laundry list of shit to deal with!

But on the other hand, Galactic and Plasma do seem like the only pair of teams that could coherently work together, so they could be a decent threat. I wouldn't put it past them to plant spies around the place where the Phantoms are recovering and rehabilitating to take notes on how to approach this, because if they attack them out of the blue, they get their asses kicked (Team Rocket learned that the VERY hard way). But something to take note of if that if they were attacked outside without Elesa, Lucas, or Barry nearby, the Phantoms would likely revert RIGHT BACK to their wild instincts. However, unlike Hisui, they don't have a bunch of Alphas or wild Pokemon they've bonded with at their beck and call. They would be agile but defenseless, especially if Chadelure and Eelectross are taken out early. Basically, Akari needs Pokemon of her own and Ingo and Emmet need a decent team STAT if they wanna be prepared for whatever's waiting for them out there.

HOWEVER, I take your ambush, and add a bit of a twist to it. Yes, Akari gets attacked by the teams along with Barry and Lucas, but who comes out to save the day? Cynthia. That Champion has been keeping an eye on Akari, feeling the need to keep her safe from a distance. Cynthia knows Akari doesn't like her and why, so she's done her best to keep out of her way and make sure nothing is after her. Until now. Seeing Cynthia's Garchomp take out the grunts has Akari staring at Cynthia with wide eyes. This woman with Volo's face saved her, something Volo never would have done. It sparks a teeny tiny flame of budding trust that we can build on later, cause PTSD doesn't go away overnight. Cynthia makes sure the kids are safe, and immediately starts using her connections to let everyone know what happened aka phoning up her buddies in Unova. 'Uhh yeah, the bad guys from a few years ago are back and I'm pretty sure the other guys with them are from you guys, I think we have a problem.'

Ingo and Emmet are immediately flown to Sinnoh to act as protection for Akari, while Barry and Lucas spearhead the plan of attack along with Cynthia. These boys dealt with Team Galactic during the events of DPP, they can easily do it again (and Barry is MORE THAN ready to protect Akari). And maybe they could call up Hilbert and/or Hilda for info about Team Galactic if they're available (if not, Cheren and Bianca are valid backups). Basically, this could be the start of an arc that has PLENTY of angst potential. Hope that was satisfying enough for you :3

for the au of the tot au where it's emmet's mind station instead i think it would be cool if it was the b2w2 protagonist (im just going to use rosa) and elesa instead of akari being there too magically maybe emmet was near ingo when he got eebie deebied and emmet got stuck with a remanent as well. idk how they'd get it without uxie but maybe the forces of nature call them up or something they probably have their arc number

I’m not adverse to the use of Rosa (or Hilda, Nate, and Hilbert) but I would think Akari could still work, as this AU is utilizing the headcanon that she is Dawn, and is coming back home to the present (it’s the whole reason why she is helping Ingo and going into his mindscape, he also has a chance to go back home with her, but can’t until the Remnant is extracted, and she will not leave without him)

She will most likely be with Ingo when they both go back. And after running around in Ingo’s memories, she would have some semblance of who Elesa is, and would probably have a great understanding of Emmet due to knowing MG Emmet.

Another anon mentioned you can find Uxie in a library in BW2 (I looked it up, in Nacrene city), so they could always go there for help; Uxie would recognize Akari and Ingo definitely.
