#redrew yesterdays frog from memory #amphibian #frog #epipedobates tricolor #amphibidextrous #it's interesting which parts i remembered more or less accuirately #like the overall angles of the back leg. and the bend of the arms #also the fingers/toes. in the referenced and traced art they have a more constant width while here they are wider at the base #which is probably an anatomy issue i have been having for forever but it took this comparison to notice WHY my toes never look quite right

Hyrdoloth are 10 ft (3 m) tall frog fiends from the River Styx. They can turn invisible, cause madness, walk on water, cause magical fear, and are telepathic! They're also pretty chill, and are known for thier trading skills! Thier horrible trading skills, they're great at finding things but not at knowing thier value, so they often get scammed. They spend most of thier time trading, fighting, and just swimming around enjoying life.

Fun fact: All these Yugoloth ( the creatures ending in "Loth") are one base species, constantly evolving up and down into different forms like a Digimon. By learning life lessons, they become a better version. This Hydroloth has learned that sometimes being physically weaker can have its own advantages. In thier case, being able to swim in the River Styx without losing thier memory, making them untouchable to most. They rise to the Yagnoloth upon realizing that while their power gives them prestige and wealth, their lives are still at thier commander's mercy. Even the most powerful units can be sent to die on the frontlines.

today's funky frog of the day: loveridge's big-fingered frog (Probreviceps loveridgei)!!!!!!! these froggies live in tanzania. their genus, Probreviceps, is quite small - it only has 6 species, and they're all endemic to southeast africa!

Correct. Frogs and caudates (newts and salamanders). Ancestrally. It looks like the fifth digit was lost among at least one lineage of fairly early temnospondyls, which later gave rise to neobatrachia. But honestly the fossil record is a bit hard to interpret in this regard, and I’m dissatisfied with the work I’ve seen so far.
