AN OOC DISCORD SERVER TEMPLATE : for tumblr based roleplays

Hello everyone !! This is a server template built specifically for an ooc-only discord server used by a tumblr roleplay without an ooc chat ( though one could easily be added ). Of course, every admin team has their own preferences of what channels to include and how to set up their server, and servers will often evolve over time to better reflect the group’s needs. But if you’re unsure of where to start, hopefully this is helpful !

This is a very roleplay & plotting centered server template. Below, I will go over the layout of the server as well as give more detail on certain channels that might not be self explanatory. As is true with all discord server templates, the roles & permissions will be brought though but not the bots themselves. As this server is set up with a verification process ( meaning when a new member joins, they can only see certain channels and must receive a role to see the entire server ), at least one bot with reaction role capability ( eg. reaction roles, carl bot, dyno ) is needed.

If you have no desire for a verification system, feel free to just read through and pick out the categories/channels you’d like in your server rather than using the template link. Again this server template reflects a very personal preference and is shared here as a guide, certainly not a rule. Feel free to change, delete, or add channels to better suit your needs and liking as an admin !!

THE OVERVIEW

CATEGORY: WELCOME

when a new member arrives in the server, this is what they see ( 4 channels, not the rest of the server ):

#welcome-lobby is the landing page, the channel users are popped into as they enter. i like to set up a bot to send an automatic welcome message in this channel that pings the user and ( since there is a verification process ) provides some clear instructions on how to access the rest of the server. for example:

hello <insert user’s @> !! welcome to RP NAME !! before you get access to the rest of the server please read the #guidelines & follow the instructions at the bottom. if you have any trouble, head to #ask-an-admin !

the new member should then understand they should proceed to #guidelines.

in #guidelines, i like to put a few ground rules for the server — even if it does not have an ooc chat. this might include a reminder to familiar themselves with #triggers, to reach out to admins when issues arise, to be kind to one another, & other relevant things for the best server experience.

i always end my guidelines message with the instruction: thank you again for joining & reading our guidelines : react with 👍 to get access to the rest of the server. this is the message i attach my reaction roles command to.

beneath that, i also add another message with a checklist to continue to guide the member through the first steps of establishing themselves in the server. i also include a reminder to read from the top, as unfortunately discord has a habit of putting people at the bottom of the channel. here is an example of this:

in #triggers i include a reminder to put all messages that contain a trigger under a spoiler, and an up to date list of all the triggers in the roleplay. if you do not want to keep two lists up to date ( assuming you have one on your main blog ), then i encourage you to put this reminder in #guidelines !!

CATEGORY: ADMIN

#announcements — for any official admin announcements

#help-your-admin — you can use use this channel to pop in questions you get on the main like “would members perfer X fc or Y fc” or “most wanted from members”. this is also a great channel for any polls ( eg. about events or meme days ) you want to run or basically if you, as an admin, wanted feedback or opinions from your members on anything.

#interest-checks — if your roleplay runs on weekly interest checks, use this channel for that! if you have activity checks, you can tweak the name and link them here.

#ask-an-admin — a space for members to voice any questions to the admins. to allow for anonymous questions, it’s recommended to run confessions bot in this channel.

#suggestions-and-feedback — a space for members to voice any suggestions for the rp or server, or otherwise provide feedback. again, to allow for anonymous message, it’s recommended to run confessions bot in this channel.

#bot-testing — a place for any bot set-up or to run bot commands. the bot role has access to this channel, so be sure to assign bot to all your bots so they have access to it. admin is the only other role with access, members cannot see it.

#admin-chat — if your roleplay has multiple admins, you can chat here about admin-only business. only the admin role can see this channel.

#asks — if you have interest in using webhooks to pull in asks from your main into the discord server, you can use this channel and follow my webhook tutorial here. only the admin role can see this channel.

CATEGORY: OOC

#ooc-updates — also can be called vibe check. this is basically a place for ooc status updates, like you might find on the tumblr dash or in an ooc blog in some rps ( eg. ‘sorry, i haven’t been on the past couple days i’ve been _____’ ). even in ooc servers with ooc chats, i found these helpful so these types of messages don’t get lost in the chat or on the dash. in ooc servers that lack an ooc chat channel, i like to think they provide a bit of personal connection within the server for members without being overwhelming or with the potential for cliquey-ness or requiring another feature to join like an ooc blog. in the template, a 2 hr slowmode ( available in the channel settings ) is already implemented in this channel to help prevent it from dissolving into a chat. i also invite members to say hi/introduce themselves in this channel upon first arrival in the server to help break the ice ( as per the checklist in #guidelines ).

#ooc-info — self explanatory. i’m partial to including a pinned form for members to fill out: NAME, PRONOUNS, AGE, TIMEZONE, CHARACTERS, FUN FACT.

the channels below are optional, but can potentially add additional value or a little fun to your server !!

#troubleshooting — included as a place where members can voice any tech-related issues they might be having & ask for help.

#resources — members sometimes are looking for a certain template, theme, or other rp-related resource and this is a space to do that !!

#change-your-color — lexa and sheep are the most popular color changing bots that allow users to control the color they show up as in the server with no admin help. i’m partial to sheep because the assigned role ( with the color ) is named after your discord handle rather than lexa’s USER-###########, and i find sheep’s convention neater especially when cleaning out role colors after members leave. however, lexa’s icon is prettier ( but with the verification system, neither bot should show up anywhere in the server but this channel, #bot-testing, and the welcome channels ).

if you are interested in adding an #ooc-chat ( not included in the template ), then this is the category to add it to !! be sure it is a private channel with the member role given access.

CATEGORY: IN CHARACTER

#ic-intros — a place for members to link their intros or bios.

#plotting-calls — post plotting calls & members react accordingly

#open-starters — link open starters on the dash

#starter-calls — post starter calls & members react accordingly

#tasks — for members to link completed tasks

#wanted-connections — for members to describe in brief any casual wc they have open.

#taken-connections — sometimes it’s fun to get the general gist of muse’s relationships with each other! it helps to get a more holistic view of the muses’ dynamics within the rp.

#creations — for members to link any edits they create & put on the dash !!

RECOMMENDED BOTS TO EMPLOY WITH THE SERVER:

A REACTION ROLE CAPABLE BOT ( required ) — the reaction roles bot will do the bare minimum for a server verification ( allow a user to receive a role upon reacting to a certain message ), however, i recommend a more diverse bot like CARL-BOT or DYNO which also have welcome message capabilities to welcome new members as described in #welcome-lobby ( as well as many other abilities should you wish to explore them ). as a reminder, the “verification process” roles & channel permissions have already been set up as part of the template, all that needs to be done to finish the verification setup is invite the chosen bot & apply the reaction role command to the desired message in #guidelines.

CONFESSIONS — use in #ask-an-admin & #suggestions-and-feedback to allow for anonymous messages in both channels. if you have carl-bot, you can also set up anonymous suggestions a second way in #suggestions-and-feedback.

LEXA or SHEEP — role color changing bots that allow members to control the color of their name ( their role ) in the server. as said above, i’m partial to sheep because the assigned role ( with the color ) is named after your discord handle rather than lexa’s USER-###########. verify that the chosen bot has access to #change-your-color ( it should show in the online users in that channel ).

OTHER THINGS

here are all discord text formatting commands. you can also now use the usual keyboard shortcuts ( eg. ctrl+b to bold ) or highlight the text and click the formatting you want.

if you are an administrator in a server, you can always check if your roles are correct or if new channels have the correct settings by navigating to settings > roles, and clicking the meatball menu to the right of the respective role you want to view as to see “view server as role.” To view the server as a new member who just joined ( no roles added ) click “default permissions” at the top of the roles page, then the meatball menu in the upper right to see “view server as role.”

many of the channels in the template have the channel descriptions filled out already — please be sure to double check they say what you want them to before releasing the server to your members!

I have no idea how to make a good title...

The dark haired man sat in the grass, somewhere close by his new house, having moved from the previous one only a few weeks ago. It didn't really bother him that much, he never got too attached to it anyways. His gaze was lost on the moon, almost feeling like it was looking back at him. The music in the back of his mind present as multiple memories and different thoughts threatened to overwhelm him.

"Hey, dude?" ah, right. When he was about to forget where he was completely lost in his thoughts, Fionna's voice brought him out of them, suddenly grounding him. The blonde leaned towards him, looking up at the taller man with concern and something that resembled determination, because even with her nerves on edge and her skin as red as possible, making her freckles dissapear from foreign eyes, she felt the courage to tell him all those feelings that she had been harboring for months.

"I have something. Something really really important, that I seriously need to tell you" she began, and there was no turning back since his attention was fully on her now, making her feel even more nervous under his curious gaze.

"this may sound a bit weird, or even crazy... But I think that, during all these months I have realized that... That I feel something for you, something different. Something that you could not like, but I really need to tell you this, man. It has been eating me alive for so long and so im tired of hiding how much I like you. Because I do, I- I think I love you, Simon" the tone in her voice demonstrated the seriousness of her words. A tone that the man with the silver streak of hair was not used to hear from the shorter woman.

Simon frowned, his white snowy eyes escaping the baby blue gaze that reflected the dark sky.

"you... I-" he looked for the correct words, visibly shocked by her sudden confesion "this is more complicated than you think, Fionna" he sighed

"My heart has been closed for so long... I don't know if I'm even capable of this anymore. To open myself to someone in that way" his words always being so carefully picked. Fionna then took her companion's hand with determination, sending an electric sensation to the depths of his heart

"give me a chance. Just one chance, man. Let me take care of your heart, let me take care of you, I... I really want to do it" she said, leaning dangerously again over Simon, who, because of his nerves was leaning back, bringing his hands to the wet grass and squeezing it there, searching for the answers to his problems.

Love was a strange thing, wasn't it? It always appears when you least expect it, before you can even realize what it is. To Simon it was like that, in the blink of an eye the woman he saw as a close friend, who he shared a deep bond with became the person his heart and mind ached to be with, to care for, that plead to make happy and in response to be happy with her... To him, the time didn't matter, it wasn't of use, because even with the passing of the months he still couldn't forget about her.

The abysmal distance between them did nothing to appease the growing fire in his soul as well. Even the difference in their ages, that at first made him reconsider his own feelings, was not able to hold him long enough from seeing her in that way, because in the end of the day they were both grown adults, mature enough to make their own choices, adults that met eachother only a few months ago yet they felt like they knew the other from even longer.

And the temptation of those lips was becoming too much for the taller man to handle, with the woman who tormented him every night in his dreams practically on top of his lap, looking for his acceptance and his love. The woman's voice hypnotized him, her gaze made him lose himself in space, and her gentle hands on his own made him shiver.

All of it was too much, so in the midst of the darkness that enveloped them, their lips met in an awkward kiss.

Despite the scratchy wounds on Simon's lips, constantly bitten by the anxiety and stress caused by his life in Ooo, Fionna loved them tenderly, wanting to hold his face and kiss it, wanting to heal his wounded lips with all the love overflowing in her chest, wanting to fill the man with hope in the middle of the emotional desert he had inside of his heavy heart.

As they separated, Simon felt a mix of emotions. Doubt and fear still loomed, along with a bit of guilt for feeling like he was betraying the red-haired woman he had loved for years. But he knew that Betty would never come back, and he knew that even she would agree with him doing this, after all she was the one who gave him the chance to rebuild his life and maybe... Just maybe, this was what he needed. Feeling that his long gone lover was giving him this opportunity with Fionna gave him a glimmer of hope. And when the blonde left his lips she gently caressed his face, looking into his eyes.

"you don't have to accept right away" she told him in a tone he couldn't describe

"I'm willing to wait for you, no matter how long it takes" she intertwined her fingers with his and looked at him, smiling sincerely.

Those words filled the short haired man with gratitude and something he had missed feeling, joy. He realized that, perhaps, this was the right thing, during his weakest moments it was thanks to her that he truly smiled, and maybe with her he could seek a path where he finds himself feeling better, feeling happy.

All of the emotions were too much for him to handle, and his eyes started to let thick tears run freely, letting out a silent sob. It had been so long since he had been able to cry and now he was doing it in front of the woman he wanted to love and take care of, the one that had an understanding smile for him.

So Fionna wrapped her arms around him, letting him let his emotions out as much as he wanted and in turn she felt a pair of arms wrap her waist, a shy and weak grip on her side at first but it became strong as he gained confidence. For hours they held each other in their arms, and in the light of the all knowing moon, they felt that maybe. Just maybe. Things would turn out ok for the both of them.

New Pokeask Server!

((Hello! As a promised yesterday, I made a public server to talk to peeps in the community. The server is open for past, present, and future members of the pokeask community, or just for those who are fans of askblogs!

The server is free to join BUT every new member will pass by a veto before joining. I am also currently looking for moderators! All I ask is that you have some experience moderating a discord server. For now, I am the only admin, but that is subject to change soon!

The server is open for all ages, btw.

i’ve decided that in my (super cool and much better) version of boy meets world, cory and shawn would get together in college. topanga would go to yale (as she should have) and leave cory a mess. he would have no clue what to do with himself and claim that he’s given up on dating. turns out, he likes not dating girls so much better than dating them.

it takes him a bit longer to realize he’s gay, though. i figure that he’d probably start to realize it when talking to a guy at a bar or party or something (or more realistically, his study buddy) and not realize that the guy was flirting with him because he’s a stupid little gay boy that makes me, a lesbian, homophobic. when the guy kisses him, cory either lowkey goes into shock or is like huh. interesting. and keeps kissing him.

i think either way cory would keep kissing guys as “experimentation” but eventually just be like fuck it we ball i’m gay now after accidentally ending up in a gay bar and being like yeah these are my people.

because, again, cory is a stupid little gay boy, it was take him a bit longer than that to realize he’s in love with shawn but once he figures it out he knows he’s stupid for taking that long to do so. like of course it’s shawn! shawn is the perfect best friend to fall in gay love with! he has incredible hair and a traumatic backstory!

he laments to eric and jack about this and about how stupid and lonely he is and how shawn will never love him back and eric’s like dude even i know you guys are married and cory’s like oh my god we are married! shawn and i are gay! and so cory goes up to shawn and declares, “shawn, we’re gay!”

there are two possible shawn reactions.

reaction #1: “cory what we’re not gay.” cory kisses him. “oh fuck cory we’re gay.”

reaction #2: shawn thinks cory is fucking with him and runs off and it’s really dramatic but they kiss mwah yay the end
