Answerbox #130
I’ll preface this post by saying I don’t really like talking about Yashahime. It brings out a lot of negativity in me which comes across in the post. I do acknolwedge that, as well as acknowledge it’s not a subject I can escape really, people are going to ask and I’m going to be happy enough to answer them.
Q: What’s your opinion of the command being used in Yashahime?
A: I hate it.
Those that follow me know I'm a proponent of the commands use in the original series, well in the manga... those that also follow me will know how much I dislike Sunrise's bastardization of the command.
Takahashi used the command in the manga as a means to guide Inuyasha away from the bad habits he'd picked up during life on his own. His impulsive nature that often leads to the destruction of other's property, saying something insensitive, or just being dishonest with Kagome.
The idea always was that Kagome uses the command to prevent Inuyasha from defaulting to what he knows, pushing people away. Destroying people's property, even if meaning well pushes people away from him, causes people to distrust him. The way he talks is off-putting to many who wouldn't want to associate with him, or might not trust him because of it.
Inuyasha acts like a bandit, Kagome wants people to view him as the hero that she knows that he is.
The moments when he lies to Kagome (which admittedly are few and far between, but are generally well meaning), go right back to him pushing people away. Takahashi makes it clear his intentions aren't malicious, he does however default back to what he knows and has learned, that bad habit of not letting people in.
Now the counter argument I've always heard to the command is, why doesn't Kagome simply talk to him about these things? Kagome is so good at communicating with him, why does she need the beads at all?
To which I respond, Kagome is a great communicator, and very often can get through to Inuyasha... Inuyasha however is stubborn, likes to win, and for the better part of the series, doesn't like to admit to any fault. Multiple fights only come to an end because of Kagome, because Kagome isn't out to actually win arguments but to make a point, when Inuyasha seems to get that point, Kagome then makes the move to reconcile. Inuyasha rarely if ever truly relents, unless he realizes how badly he messed up.
The beauty of the command itself, in the manga, is it's not destructive. It's very easy for something like this to completely alter someone’s personality, change them into a totally different person, painted by the brush of the person that has control of the command itself. That isn't the case at all here. Kagome likes Inuyasha the way he is, but he needs to work on his social interaction with others, Kagome wants people to see the person she sees when they’re alone.
The Inuyasha we see at the end of the series is still the cocky and brash person that he ever was, in battle he still flings out insults, he still carries himself with that same confidence that he always does, he's the exact same person. It's just now, he's isn't trying to push people away, he's not as impulsive, he's put thought into others around him, he's secure in his power, he knows what he is capable of, and no longer uses fear and intimidation.
The command disappears at the end of the series, it's purpose finished and by the end of the series it's completely forgotten about.
*Sigh* And then there is Yashahime.
The main theme of the original anime when it came to the command... was regression.
In order often to get the command used, it required Inuyasha to do things he'd not done since the beginning of the series, or that were completely out-of-character for him.
That theme continues with Yashahime. From Inuyasha stupidly swinging his sword around like an amatuer swordsman, to Kagome misconstrueding Inuyasha's attempt to console Sesshomaru's daughters.
Both require the characters not to have grown a bit over the course of their time together, Inuyasha regressed back to being a reckless idiot, and Kagome went from refusing to use the command when Sango called for it, because she knew Inuyasha so well in that the need for it wasn't justified, to totally misreading Inuyasha's intentions at the time.
At it’s core, the command in the original is timeless and essential to the development of Kagome and Inuyasha.
The command in Yashahime, is nostalgia for nostalgia's sake, lazy, it's there as a detriment rather than development, it's outdated and being sold well past it's expiration date, it comes at the detriment of the characters we know and love.

New fic: Manipulation
Hello! I wrote this ages ago, and with the help of @ku-mi-ko, @hanmajoerin, @inukag, @companion-for-who and @born-for-eachother, I finally posted it! (jeez, viva, do you really need this many people to write something so short? Yes i do, shut up.)
So here it is something cute with Kin'u and Miroku! Please bear in mind that although I'm using some Yashahime elements, it is not set in the Yashahime universe and InuYasha and Kagome live perfectly happy being MirSan neighbours at the village. That's it.
Tumblr media
Rating: G/Everyone
Characters: Miroku and Kin'u
Universe: InuYasha cannon compliant, not HNY compliant
Read it in AO3
Manipulation
"Daddy, look!"
Oh, here we go…
Miroku braced himself for what was to come. He was only "daddy" when they wanted something. Otherwise, he was "father".
"Yes, sweetheart, what is it?"
"It's a puppy!" Kin'u beamed. "He followed me!"
Miroku looked down to see the puppy in question, a little scrawny thing with honey coloured fur and droopy ears, wagging its tail furiously and licking the girl's fingers. It was not uncommon for dogs and other animals to follow them while attending to missions, as they often could get scraps of food along the way. But when Miroku decided to take his eldest to experience the itinerant monk life, he wasn't expecting her to start collecting pets on the road.
"Can I keep him?"
"Kin'u, I don't think this is a good idea..."
"But Dad", she said alongating her syllables. "He’s hungry! And he likes me!"
The puppy jumped and barked, as if to agree with the girl. Miroku took a deep breath.
"I can see that. It's best if we feed him then go. We can't take him home."
"We can't just abandon him!" Her voice began rising in pitch. "He’s a baby!" As if on cue, the puppy whimpered.
"Kin'u, he’ll be fine. He’s survived until this point, he clearly can find food and shelter."
The girl frowned. The puppy jumped on her leg once more to try to grab her attention and achieve some pets on the head. Miroku was brought back momentarily to the time a couple of years previous, when he had to drag his daughter back home sobbing when she couldn’t take home the puppy that had been offered to him as payment by one of the villagers. A dog had just given birth and Kin’u seemed so enamoured by the litter, the woman suggested they take one as a gift. But the dogs were still too little to be weaned, and so it stayed behind. Bringing himself back to the present at hand, he hoped he wouldn’t need to carry a crying child all the way home again this time around.
"But Father," Kin’u pleaded, her mouth falling into a straight line and eyes closing. Miroku didn't miss the telltale change of tone when she spoke or the quiet inhale that filled the space between them. Kin'u was silent, but it wouldn't be long before she sold him a pitch. She was turning out to be every bit the merchant that he was. "Don't animals have souls with potential for enlightenment just like we do? Shouldn't we be kind to them just as much as we are to humans? For all we know, this could be the soul of Grandfather!"
'She’s getting good at assessing which arguments work best in each situation,' Miroku thought, half proud of his daughter's skills, and half worried. This had to be payback for all those years of tricking people with carefully crafted words. Miroku knew the karma would return his actions to him, but he just assumed it would be in his next life, a problem for whoever had his soul in the future.
"Yes, good to know you have been paying attention to the teachings. But theology won't help your case because we also don't take every person in need to our home. We help them as much as we can then go our separate ways, as fate will lead us."
The young girl sighed, defeated. "I had already chosen a name..."
Kin’u probably didn’t mean to spike her father’s curiosity this time, the comment was perfectly spontaneous. But it did anyway. "Which one?"
"InuYasha."
"No. Kin'u, you can't name the dog InuYasha."
"Fine. Gyo can help me decide on a new name, if you let me take him. I promise I'll take care of him! And he'll be out of the way, he won't be any trouble at all for you or Mother!"
Miroku thought he should pay a visit to Mushin soon. Maybe apologize and thank the old monk for not simply abandoning him when he was a little boy. If he was half as argumentative and persistent as his daughter at her age, he sure was a handful.
He sighed. Maybe taking the puppy wouldn't be such a bad idea. It could teach the kids some responsibilities. And they would finally stop pestering them for a pet. "I suppose if the dog follows us home, there’s nothing we can do to deter him. It would be cruel to scare him away.” Kin’u perked up, he could see the celebration in her eyes, so he added, “But this doesn't mean you can keep him. Whatever your mother says is final, understood?" before she could speak.
"Yes!" The girl opened a huge smile and jumped over to hug him. "Thank you so much, Daddy! I love you!" The dog jumped and barked, picking up on the change of mood, and wagging his tail so fast it was now just a blur.
With some luck she would at least tell her mother that he had objected to the idea a little. It was starting to get hard not to prove Sango's point that he was being too lenient and spoiling the kids too much. He was never going to hear the end of it.
But as long as Miroku got to hear those words coming from his daughter, he didn't really mind being manipulated.

Yashahime Episode 15
I think so many of my feelings and observations have been stated by others at this point, but here go my rambling thoughts anyway.
First the negative:  It was an oddly structured episode.  The introduction threw us straight into the past, very, very briefly framed by Riku as the narrator.  Did Riku break the fourth wall or were we to assume a listener we did not see?  I’m still not sure.  So much information was thrown at the audience that it did not feel like there was enough times to savor the emotions of the moments ...  very very important moments that showed us Inuyasha and Kagome’s home and married dynamic, pregnant Kagome, RIN HAVING HER BABIES with Kaede, Sango and Kagome being there (I LOVED that), Sesshomaru taking his babies...I’m willing to wait and assume this rushed narrative is on purpose, but it was a little jarring.
Now the good:
Rin is the mommy!  I knew that.  I was convinced on August 1st during the livestream, but it was a sweet (if all too brief) moment.  Mamiko Noto’s voice as Rin was so perfect.  It was sweet, but it was subdued.  It was the voice of a someone who had just birthed twins and knows something awful is about to go down.  To hear her name the babies was a beautiful moment, and how sweet were baby Towa and Setsuna.  Towa looked a little grumpy/sleepy, but baby Setsuna was already smiling :).  I do think they will show that Setsuna, deep down, is a smiling sweet girl like her mother and that circumstances made her like she is.  It also makes me think that we have only seen one side of Towa -- we haven’t really seen what she has inherited from Sesshomaru -- yet.
I loved that all of Rin’s friends surrounded her and helped her have her babies.  The twins hurrying to get Kaede, Sango going for Kagome...it was a community event!  But seriously, to know that if only for a short while, Rin got to be surrounded by love and peace with her babies by her side makes the bitterness of Sesshomaru taking the babies so quickly afterwards a little easier to bear.  Just a little.  Sango the experienced mom.  Kaede the midwife.  Rin the new mom.  Kagome the expectant mom.  Imagine the conversations and bonding.  Their kids should have grown up together :(.
And I am going to speculate, until the show proves me wrong, that Rin probably had her own hut and continued to live in the village after she married Sesshomaru, or at least after she got pregnant.  The fact that the twins came to get Kaede at night makes me think that she was not in Kaede’s hut.  Wouldn’t Kaede be at her own place at night?
Tumblr media
Like Inuyasha and Kagome, I think Rin and Sesshomaru had their own place:
Tumblr media
This looks different from Kaede’s hut.  I don’t remember the little pathway on the left, but it’s impossible to tell if they are next to the gate here.  Again, I’m choosing to believe they had their own place.
So, this makes me consider how much Sesshomaru really did settle down for Rin.  He gave up his titles.  He did not take her to a castle in the air.  He let her stay among her friends and start a family WITH HIM but still within the village.  He gave her the best of both worlds.  He MARRIED her.  How many times was she called his wife or bride?  She’s no concubine or human piece on the side.  He MARRIED her.  Since he had not seen his mother in a while, I’m assuming he married her in her village, letting everyone know she wasn’t just some poor village girl taken advantage of by the powerful yokai. And it clearly wasn’t just a human marriage.  All the big bad demons called Rin Sesshomaru’s wife. What honor, respect and love he showed to her, a mere human peasant (though of course we all know she is so much more than that, especially to Sesshomaru).
Was he like many lords and installed her in her own home, visiting and staying with her when he did not have business to attend to?  Or did he tell Inuyasha that he better get used to having another demon hanging out in his forest by the village?  Like...for all intents and purpose, Sesshomaru may have been living in the same village as Inuyasha, both intending to raise their families together.  I love that.  Please Yashahime, don’t dissuade me of this.
Poor Sesshomaru...sigh...I know it doesn’t look great for him right now...but that will change.  The story is not going to make him the villain.  It’s just not.  But yes, poor Sesshomaru.  He got to be happy about his babies being born for all of about two seconds before Zero interrupted him.  Look at his little smile while he listens to his daughters’ first cries:
Tumblr media
He had his worried face on, and then he smiled.  He’s a dad in the waiting room.  And the TONE of Jaken’s voice when he declared that they had been born.  The WARMTH, the LOVE.  Grandpa Jaken I love you so much.
This bitch, though, I don’t love at all:
Tumblr media
Does she have some kind of magic yokai ultrasound that lets her know Sesshomaru had twin daughters and predicted Kagome would have a daughter?  I look forward to seeing how this all unravels, but the fact that she showed up IMMEDIATELY after the girls were born is frightening, and maybe that was why Sesshomaru was at the outskirts of the village instead of closer by?  Clearly, they were expecting some kind of attack, but dang...that happened fast.
Who is this lady anyway?  I’ve seen it speculated that it may be Riku’s mother...and yes?  I could see that.  Did she have a hanyou she was not allowed to keep,  poor Riku tossed overboard, and now she seeks revenge? Or was she rejected by Toga? Those tears of hers.  Who was she crying for?
As many others noticed, this was a little odd:
Tumblr media
What about Sesshomaru’s mother?  He hasn’t seen her in years (such a bad son), and when they go to her castle, she’s missing.  Was she just off doing flying dog stuff in the sky?  Was she shopping for expensive jewelry and designer silks?  I’m assuming she was not at Sesshomaru’s wedding.  Or did Zero do something to her and Sesshomaru just wasn’t aware?  I’m dying to see more of Sesshomaru’s mom.  I want her to meet the twins and just throw out her arms all, “Come to Grandma!  Let me buy you things and tell you stories about your dad.”  But that remains to be seen.
Speaking of grandparents, can I say yet again that I love the honorary grandparents Kaede and Jaken, both trying to protect Rin in their own way.  Kaede doesn’t hold back and calls Sesshomaru a fool (imagine what she was like when Sesshomaru was truly courting Rin) while Jaken comforts Rin when her babies are taken away.  Again, the voice acting by Jaken’s VA is EVERYTHING in this episode.  The LOVE he conveys.  He’s perfect.  I love him.  I do.
And Rin knew the plan. She knew what was going to happen, but poor thing...I wish it could have been different for her.  Look how much she loves and trusts Sesshomaru.  That expression clearly says “Look what I made! Look what WE made!”  I wish we could have seen them react to the babies together.
Tumblr media
Also, look at how Sango is about THISCLOSE to putting on her slayer clothes and kicking Sesshomaru’s ass when he scooped up those babies and turned away:
Tumblr media
The rest of the episode was such a jumble of events.  Sesshomaru AND Jaken were with Inuyasha and Kagome when the comet arrived, which was after the twins’ birth but before Moroha’s.  Even if they are hanyo, I don’t think Jaken and Sesshomaru would have left newborn babies alone.  Rin was with them.  Jaken even said he was bringing Rin to them (I assume after she recovered from birthing twins).  Further supporting this would be the dream gazing spell business --  Like others have said, I’m pretty sure Rin sacrificed herself to keep her remaining daughter safe after Towa was pulled into the future.
Miscellaneous observations:
1. What the hell is going on with the comet? Every 500 years?  So, the Higurashis might be in for a surprise pretty soon?  Comet remnants are still in the sky though...
2. Why in the hell did Inuyasha bring his pregnant wife along for the comet destruction? Why exactly was she there?  Unless he was too worried about her safety to leave her behind?
3. Riku is one shady fellow.  HE found the compact?  How did he know where to look? I know, I know.  Don’t be hasty, but c’mon.  We don’t have that many episodes left.
4.  I like how they portrayed a pregnant Kagome.  I like this little side view where you can see she’s chunky, but it’s not an exaggerated thing:
Tumblr media
5. Sesshomaru and Rin had babies before Inuyasha and Kagome! On one level, it is very sweet.  Of anyone, Rin and Sesshomaru are very aware of the fragility of life and how fleeting time is.  Look at the names of their daughters.  It makes sense that they wanted a family quickly.  On the other hand, I cannot shake the idea that the brothers did get competitive with each other.  I can imagine Inuyasha knocking up Kagome as quickly as possible after finding out that Rin was pregnant.  Then Sesshomaru has TWO daughters to Inuyasha’s one.  I am longing for some brotherly interactions.  Let Inuyasha call him a hypocrite at least once.  Let Sesshomaru gloat that he has TWO super awesome daughters. Let the daughters watch their ridiculous fathers fist fight while their mothers pour water on them and tell them to SIT.  Please.
6. Besides emphasizing the fact that Rin is Sesshomaru’s WIFE, the episode also emphasized the fact that Rin actually birthed the girls. Rin is in labor, it will be soon, you did well, Rin, Rin resting in bed with her daugthers, her voice weak and tired, the tub used to wash the babies in the background.  There was no magic switcheroo.  The twins were not found beneath a tree.  Sesshomaru did not sprout them from a forgotten limb. They came out of Rin’s body.  She’s the mom. She made them with her husband. End of.
6. Finally, this is the best part of the episode.
Tumblr media
You sure did, Rin.
Now where are A-Un and Shippo?

Expanding into my other Fandoms (I’m gonna have to take a stance) Read the whole thing please.
One of my oldest and most beloved anime is Inuyasha. As of late I have been binged watching the hell out of it as I am getting my BFF into different anime shows. We are really close to entering the Yashahime part of the series, and she asked if I planned to write fanfiction involving the one character which made me even watch the show as a 10-year-old.
Tumblr media
Sesshomaru
The first episode I ever watched involved this aloof, entitled dog fighting his brother over the sword in their father’s grave. Specifically, it was part 3 of that whole episode series were Kagome pulled out the sword. I at the time had 3 dogs of German Sheppard/wolf hybrid, they were MASSIVE dogs, fell in love with the big white fluff that was Sesshomaru’s demon form. I use to sneak staying up and watch the show faithfully to see the goodest boy as it was only on at 11pm EST on adult swim. Which meant it was bad and I was breaking the rules, I felt like a rebel.
Now I hesitated answering that question. She has no idea of what is in Yashahime, she is being careful not to spoil it so I told her I didn’t know. Recently, to find out what the feel is for Sesshomaru content, I looked into the tag on tumblr…
OH MY GOD.
Sesshomaru’s tag is FLOODED with hate. Like every four post, there is hate, distain, and attacking happening. As someone who watches Yashahime, I quickly knew why.
Sessrin.
Even now I sigh. And I sigh HARD. I am not for, nor am I against the Sessrin train. Same for the Sesskagu train. I think both sides need to look at things on a logical prospective. I plan to do just that. I know I will get hate from the either side and maybe some support as well. But if I am going to do anything in this fandom (as I like doing ships and reader inserts) it will come up.
So, like my Kaiba post, and my Sebastian Heel post, I will use my research skills as well as my COLLEGE DEGREE WHICH HAS BOTH ART AND MEDIEVAL HISTORY labelled on it to explain why this progression in the story is normal to anti-Sessrin fans and why this isn’t a crime by story standards nor should we look at it as a crime.
AS WELL
Explain to Sessrin fans why it is so weird for non-shippers to see it play out and why so much hate formed.
As I let out another sigh, we shall begin. Let’s start at an historical prospective. (Links at the bottom).
PLEASE READ THE WHOLE THING! I’LL BE ABLE TO TELL!
~~
I will start with the information I can access right away.
While finding charts on the life-span of common folk in 1590’s Feudal Japan is rather difficult, Ancient.edu states that the average lifespan was about 50. To put this in perspective, the average lifespan of Europeans at the time was somewhere between 40-45 with the latter being rare. Since most of us reading are not from Japanese descent, I will through Europe in this first.
If we look at the same time frame of 1590, we are looking at most of Western Europe had now entered the age of Renaissance. According to sources from Learning Resources in association with the National Gallery of Art, marriage was not what TV drama’s from HBO or Hulu depicted. By today standards they would be a crime, as the average age for marriage of an adult female was age 14…
The reasoning behind the young marriage age had multiple factors. First being, females were considered an adult once they were menstruating. Birthing also proved to be fatal, and since the lifespan was at best 40 and 45 if they were lucky, there was really no room to wait. Also Europe at the time had became hugely focused on making sure blood lines were legitimate, meaning to ensure the girl was a virgin, the moment she was able to reproduced she was married off. Those they married were not young teenagers either. Most marriages, a man would be in their thirties, and had probably multiple wives as women died more than men when not counting the battle field.
To make matters worse for the Renaissance Lady, these marriages would leave many young males unable to marry and if their husband died in battle, well, unfortunately they were not seen as desirable. This was due to the idea of a ‘free woman’. Should the girl not have a father, brother or uncle to return to as they too died, a widow had her freedom. But that freedom came at a cost. She would be assumed to have slept around, and in many writings, such as the Canterbury Tales, where Geoffrey Chaucer writes about a Window on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land survived her five husbands and the men in her family. In short, she was made to be a slut and to be looked down upon as no man controlled her.
The point of talking about Europe is because that is something most of us Non-Asian or Japanese people consume and like to paint in large romantic brush strokes of knights and magic. Honestly, reading G.R.R.Martin Song of Ice and Fire, he uses this model as we see the Queen of Dragons, Danny start off at age thirteen shortly after she had her first menstruation.
Now let’s look at Feudal Japan.
As stated before, the lifespan was around 50 years. In some populations, this was even shorter. Nagaoka, Hirata, Yokota and Matsu’ura’s on demographic data at the Yuigahama-minami area in Kamakura, Japan and found both male and female remains that suggested life expectancy to have ended around age 24-25. This was largely due to living conditions and public health. In areas like these, it would make the most sense to marry and repopulate quickly as the expectancy of life was half the national average at the time.
To my frustration, I could not find a clear marriage age for Japanese women at the time of the edo period. HOWEVER, where there is a will there is a way. I took a look at famous Lords or Daimyo’s of the time. The average age of marriage of their wives was between 12-14. Much younger than I expected, but it made sense considering this is a time where war ran the show and marriage was strictly about political gain. One of these Daimyo’s was Masamune Date, who was also 13, but then as he got older took concubines who became considerably younger than him as he became older. The goal was to have as many children as possible for hires and for political marriages to gain power.
Now lets look at Inuyasha the MANGA
Lets get the manga timeline proper here. The whole adventure took place in 11 months, a month shy of Kagome’s 16th birthday. Doing a few estimations, Rin would have travelled with Sesshomaru about 8-9 of those months. But before we get into the relationship, lets look at something the ANIME made a huge mistake with in the beginning and tried to fix as the story went on.
For some reason I could only fine gifs for the Early appearances of Sesshomaru so bear with me.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notice the issue here?
Sesshomaru was CONSIDERABLY younger looking in the start of the manga. In the anime, he started off looking like an fully adult male. But as the anime went on, they tried to make Sesshomaru look younger with subtle changes to his jaw line, eye size, and his height. Yeah, his height had changed. They made him shorter.
While in the manga, we see this young-teen looking demon, slowly mature over 11 months to look like he is in his later teens and by series end, closer to being in his late teens or twenty. Yes, art changes over time, but the anime went a reverse route. I can only guess they spoke to the author of Inuyasha about her ships, as they did Drama CDs, and realized the mistake that was made in making him more mature than he was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can’t tell me he doesn’t look closer to his manga self in the final act, because he does.
Since we are on the topic of the anime, lets be clear. The anime timeline and manga timeline are very different. The story in the anime (in the English) suggests that OVER a year has past since Kagome started her journey. They try to fix this in the final act, but it was still so muddled as previous seasons are to be taken as cannon. This could have been due to an translation error in the early production when the anime no longer had anymore manga material to reference. But whatever the case, for English viewers the time the group spent together felt much longer.
So now we come to the heart of the issue.
Because of the mistakes of the anime, a lot of anti-sessrin see the relationship as father daughter. I’ll be honest, watching the anime and solely the anime as a teenager and as an adult (as the manga was on hold for a very long time due to author’s health. I was in college when it finished.), I too thought it was just a father-daughter relationship and Jaken the nanny who got punched all the time. In fact, the English took hard liberties with Kagura, as the English dubs often do with characters, and made it very clear her feelings for the demon lord and Sesshomaru very much recognized them (though he never responded). Even in her death scene, it felt as if he was saying good bye to a friend more than love interest. But who really knows, as there are things that point otherwise.  When another demon mock’s Kagura’s death, Sesshomaru gets super pissy.
Tumblr media
The manga did also play with this fact when it came out in English, idk if the wording or message is different in the Japanese. Translation errors happen a lot even in todays releases, look at Kuroshitsuji.  So of course most anti-sessrin’s did not see this coming in Yashahime when Rin was named mother. In fact it felt like a betrayal as we were sure Sesshomaru had no romantic feelings.
Then there was the Kohaku/Rin mashup that was hinted left and right. The English anime, with its overly dramatic and blunt emotions made it appear one way. That in the end the two kids would probably be married. Then the anime as a whole made Sesshomaru older than intended. I can see why and understand how this became a problem.
On the other side of that coin.
If you followed the dub, seen ‘Swords of an Honorable Ruler’ and read the manga… Sesshomaru was not fatherly to Rin at all. In fact, Jaken picked up all of that leg work. Rin worried for Kohaku, but clearly loved Lord Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru cared about Kagura but he almost CRIED when he lost Rin.
Tumblr media
We have to remember that Sesshomaru and Rin’s relationship must have been very hard for the demon. While we never see his mental process expect for a few rare times, we have to remember he hated humans. In the movie, he blamed a human for the early death of his father, Sesshomaru killed without mercy. It made sense that he wouldn’t be fatherly to Rin as her just being there should have caused countless inner conflicts. Hell, he even says his father’s weakness was humans, and look who picked up that trait.
Sesshomaru was designed to, someday, walk in his father’s footsteps. So sess/rin, not a surprise. Also when you see it in a historical perspective, Rin having kids around age 15-16, makes sense. In fact you could argue he waited too long for the time period.
We also need to look more at the manga when concerned with Yashahime. 8-9 months is all Rin travelled with him and he was like hold up, and left her at the village because he KNEW she needed to come to her own conclusion. That no matter what she picked he would live with and protect her. Unconditional love on his end. She cannon wise spent YEARS living with humans and MONTHS with Sesshomaru. Again, by manga standards of cannon.
Now I can already hear the screaming about age and what not. Some sources say Sesshomaru is over 900, by the rule of thumb, if we look at anime and movie releases, we have Sesshomaru being over 500 with no define age and Inuyasha around 270 years old being more pinpointed due to the movie. Just by going by ANIME CANNON. Kagome and Inuyasha, you have a 15 year old with a 270 year old man. If you say being pinned to the tree doesn’t count, then you have 220.
Also, here is something very interesting. In the episode where Inuyasha meets the unmother, he tells her, thinking it was his mom, she died when he was very small and we have flash backs later in the series of him being small running from demons. Demons clearly age much slower than humans, even half-demons. Inuyasha can be 270 but mentally and physically be 15, the same logic works for Sesshomaru, who in the manga is not much older than Inuyasha.
In the manga, there wasn’t any grooming, in the anime, there was a ton of mess-ups but no grooming.
Would this fly in todays world? HELL NO! NO, its gross, she’s a kid. Stop.
I know any fanfic I write will lean heavily on the side of father/daughter because that is what I grew up seeing on the screen. I can’t think of Rin as an adult because years of seeing her as a cheerful little girl. It’s like seeing G.O.T Arya about to have sex for the first time in season 8… I remember when she was a kid on the show. It was way to weird and I had to look away until it ended. But that’s my 2021 mentality.
But Inuyasha is not taking place in 2021. Feudal Japan is a whole other era with its own beliefs, morals and way of life. Those who understand this have nothing wrong with them. They just understand history.
Also, just to bang some nails in…
Anyone remember Bleach? Remember the MOST accepted couple was Ichigo and Rukia…. Rukia who was hundreds of years old and Ichigo who was 15… or Ichigo’s mom who was a teenager and his dad also hundreds of years old.
Most of this also boils down to Sesshomaru being a dude. As in reverse roles in animes its accepted and they don’t have the same historical context. Inuyasha is based off of historical context of Feudal Japan.
We need to stop spreading hate. We can’t accept some forms of literature because its European fantasy but bash other fantasy based literature for doing the same thing.
Sure, its weird for those who were use to seeing the father/daughter dynamic. Yes, there are extreme sessrin fans who post really questionable illegal content when they decide to leave Rin as an 8-year-old…
But this wasn’t ever meant to be perverted. The story was meant to make sense on a logical and historical base.
I hope everyone takes the time to read this. I love Inuyasha, I love Sesshomaru. I am just sick of seeing so many people fighting over what should be the revival of a beloved series. While yes, there is still room for sess/rin not being a thing, until it is stated otherwise, why hate each other? This fandom will only lose people by doing this. Calling people names or accusing them of illegal endorsement can hurt someone these days over social media.
Tumblr allows you to block tags. You don’t have to read anything or watch anything you don’t like. We gain nothing from attacking each other but can lose so much by doing so. Fanart, really good fan fiction, friends, ideas, sharing fond memories. Both sides have the right to feel as they feel, but no right in hurting each other.
A fandom is meant to bring people together. Not start a war…
Thank you.

I just realized a few things for Yashahime
1. If they wanted new characters to be the spotlight on, they could have just ommited Moroha completely. Okay put her there, but I would rather her be stuck wherever our inukag couple is. So do the show without any kids of the original cast. Create a new cast. Everything is new. Original cast can exist but dont involve them in an in your face type.
2. Why? I just have this train of thought it fits better like that. It messes with how everything was in canon. You can put the prev cast. Do apperances but only briefly. They gave MiroSan somewhat okay. They could do the same for Inukag and Sesshoumaru. If they wanted that conflicting plot, just dont involve the main cast too directly into it. Their story had ended. Doing something new would be better.
3. They wanted new characters. I would say, why not still set Setsuna and Towa as half demon kids. Not to be Sesshoumaru's kids but some other great demon.
3. If they needed someone funny, they needed to do it differently. Coz it sucks. Original Inu cast. No one was treated horribly.
4. Yashahime made me realize and remember the manga was 100 times better. All characters. Someone already said this but let me say it as well. I'm going to start with Kagome and Inuyasha who's tempers arent exaggerated treated like that. They were more decent. I am rereading the manga btw. Ahahaha
5. If I would put the original cast I would say that "There used to an odd group years ago. Made up pf a demon, slayer, a monk and a strange priestess." Are they good or bad? It's hard to tell. Heard the monk was a lecher. There was a half demon who destroys a lot of things. The priestess was weird. Im not even sure if she was one or a demon in disguise. A slayer that fought stronger than any guy. Despite that, they cleared out bandits, fought alll sorts of dangerous demons left and right. I would word the cast that way.
6. On an if and only if. If Moroha was there, she wouldnt be struggling to meet ends. She would have parents who greeted her when she comes home. When she leaves, Kagome has some food prepared for Moroha.
Kagome: Moroha, Moroha.
Moroha: What now mom? I'm going to be late.
Kagome: I know, I know dear. But dont forget this. *Hands over a backback with lunchboxes* And do be careful.
Moroha: Thanks Mom!
Kagome: All packed with your favorites!
Inuyasha: There you are kiddo. *Ruffles head* Be careful out there.
Moroha: Daaad. Don't mess with my hair. It took forever to fix. And Can you guys stop treating me like a kid? I'm definitely coming home. And I will just be away for a few days.
Inuyasha: You'll have to get used to it!
*Moroha pouts and sighs*
Moroha: Going now.
Inukag: Have a safe trip!

The Kings Mate
Chapter 15
He’s Actually Quite Cute
Note: I added a mordern hashtag to the section, because I’m making the story more 21st century; kinda cooperating with the feudal era, but not too much because I’m focusing more on Luna, Toga, and Sesshomaru. I will not be going along with Yashahime, because the anime is a total MESS. The girls will actually have their father, and the mother will NOT be Rin, because she is only a child and will not going along with that plug. I see nothing wrong with the ship, it’s just the age thing that I don’t like, so I will not be placing the sessrin canon in this. So I am thinking between Kagura or Kikyo being the mother, since the girls kinda look like a combination of either. Luna is at least at the age of consent, but I will not be allowing any sexual acts to be condemned with her until she is 18. So there will be no smut chapters anytime soon. Maybe possible light fluff and maybe slight touching; but nothing will be explained in detail until the girl is 18.
Tumblr media
The teen walked through the library of her school, pretty much just skipping gym; and hiding away from teachers. But she was also looking for information on the feudal era; or maybe even info on this modern Sesshomaru. She knew of some parts as she learned from him in the feudal era, but knew nothing of him now. Only that he was rich, well known businessman, married, and has 2 daughters. But yet didn’t know if Inuyasha was around til this day, if he had children; if so who with..? She wanted to know so much to the point that her brain was beginning to overflow with questions. Her gloved fingers traced over the books in the F section, reading each title carefully looking for anything that could give her the information that she needed. “Huh? Luna kun..” came a females voice. She looked back humming before noticing Setsuna. She didn’t know she came here.. “ah Setsuna.. I didn’t know you came to school here.” she said softly. She hummed walking over. “Yes...Our father usually brings us here late..He’s usually too busy overthrowing himself into work that he loses track of time..” she stated. “What are you looking for..?” She asked softly. “Ah.. I’m looking for a few books, I’m doing a reader h paper for Japanese history..” she stated. Looking back at the books “but I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for..” she said softly. The silverette than looked over at the girl. “What grade are you in..? I haven’t noticed you or Towa walking around before..But then again I’m usually lost in my own world..” she said. Setsuna laughed softly enjoying the females company. “I’m only in 9th, same as Towa..” she stated. “Ah your two years below me. That might be why I haven’t seen you two around..” Luna explained. The two girls had made there way to one of the tables talking amongst each other; speaking of training, her fathers business and the stress behind it, and then many other things combining around school. The two spoke for so long that they hadn’t even realized the time until the last bell of the day rang. The sound surprised both girls but they just laughed it off. Luna grabbed her bag and walked out with Setsuna, pulling her car keys from her bag and walking out of the school meeting Towa in the process. “Father isn’t here yet..” the silver haired girl said. “If you guys need I can give you a ride..Just need directions.” Luna offered. Setsuna nodded smiling and watched as Towa pulled out her phone. “I’ll let dad know not to come.” She said smiling. Luna led the girls to the student parking lot unlocking her car. “You have such a fancy car for a high school student.” Setsuna said. “Yeah.. I had enough money saved up and I wanted to do something good for myself.. As I usually put money up for my family; and I don’t usually have the chance of doing anything nice for myself so I took it.” She explained smiling. The girls got in smiling at the clean and gorgeous sight of how everything looked brand new. “Of course he leaves me on read..” Towa said. “Guessing your guys dad isn’t very fatherly.” Luna questioned starting the car. “He is...When he’s not working..Which is very rare. Yesterday the first time we actually got out with him, and he didn’t even really spend much time with us.” Towa said. The three girls put their seat belts on, and Luna put the girls address into her Gps; then slowly pulled out of the parking lot. The girls chatting and laughing together about school, and explaining certain topics they found stupid. Luna wasn’t someone who made friends easily, so being able to talk to someone other than the demon in her head felt really nice; and it seemed the girls felt the same way as her.

(Picture is not mine)
“We should definitely hang out Luna. Your an amazing person to talk to!” Towa spoke with an excited voice. The silverette smiled and nodded “yeah definitely. She reached in her bag and pulled out her notebook writing down her number and ripping off the small piece handing it to Setsuna. “If you guys ever need anything, just let me know.” She said softly. Both girls smiled and nodded stepping out and waving the girl goodbye before running inside. Luna smiled and pulled out of the driveway carefully and began her way back home. Music coming lightly through her radio and she quietly sang along. It was just a mix between Girl In Red and Zolita. She stopped at a red light and looked down at her phone seeing two new messages from unknown numbers; most likely from Setsuna and Towa. She smiled softly and looked away waiting for the light to turn green. She shifted and continued her drive home singing along with ‘fight like a girl’ as she slowly pulled up in front of the shrine, putting her car in park. She picked her phone up opening the message both saying who they were in which she put them in her contacts, and let them know she got their messages. She looked down seeing Towa had sent her a message. ‘My father said thank you for driving us home.. And that if you stayed longer he would have given you money for gas..’ the message made her laugh and she just shook her head replying with a simple ‘no need.’ She didn’t want money for only taking the girls home, instead it wasn’t even that far of a drive. She stepped out placing her keys between her teeth while she grabbed her bag and shut the car door. “Lunaaaa!!” Kagome yelled. The female just shook her head and fell back against her car when the black haired female hugged her. “Jesus Kagome..” she whispered hugging back. “I missed you” she laughed out. “Obviously..” “Oi!! Kagome Luna!!! What are you two doing huh?!” Inuyasha yelled. Both girls rolled their eyes and began their journey up the long staircase. “I was hugging my sister Inuyasha.” She growled. Luna just laughed softly contining to walk before stopping when she felt her phone vibrate. She pulled it out and looked seeing another message from Towa.
Tumblr media
Towa - ‘My father is a Stubborn man though..Always have and always will be’
Luna - ‘well..He doesn’t have to pay me anything, I’m always open to give you guys a ride if needed.’
The female than put her phone away and continued her way up the steps to the shrine. She watched as Inuyasha and Kagome argued with one another making her shake her head and walked inside and straight to her room to start her homework. Although her attention disappeared from it when her phone went off making her turn it over and look at the glowing screen. An unknown number had messaged her, making her put in her passcode and open the message rather quickly. ‘Thank you for bringing my girls home, Luna. Silver looks quite good on you.’ The message read. Her eyes widened and her cheeks brightened in color, lips parted. “Sesshomaru..” she whispered. She quickly pushed her phone away and shook her head, there was no way he could possibly remember her...The feudal era disappeared hundreds of years ago...Of course you can travel through the well, and it’d be right there. The demon lord would still be right there..So would Inuyasha.. No! Inuyasha was downstairs with Kagome...”whatcha thinking about?” Came the hanyou voice. She jumped and quickly turned around, no Inuyasha was standing in her room messing with one of her bras... “hey! Put that down!” She yelled. She quickly grabbed the lace bra blushing insanely. “What is it??” He questioned poking the material. “It’s a bra..it covers a woman’s breasts..” she stated. She quickly put the bra in the dirty clothes basket sighing. “Hmm.. such strange clothing in this time...It’s confusing.” He mumbled looking around the females room. “Your room is bigger and more homey than Kagomes..” he stated. She raised an eyebrow looking around, her room was crowded with different things; what part of it was homey..? “I guess..” she whispered. “How come your not downstairs with Kagome..?” She questioned. “Tch..She keeps yelling ‘sit’ so I got away from her not wanting to deal with falling anymore. So I just followed the your scent to here.” He stated. He yawned and dropped down onto her bed shutting his eyes. Luna blinked confused watching the hanyou before sighing and letting a small smile grace her features. He actually looked quite peaceful when he got comfortable and relaxed. She turned her chair and picked her phone up deciding to reply to the message. ‘It was no problem..and thank you..’ after that she set her phone aside plugging it in and standing up walking to her bed and sat down carefully on the empty spot Inuyasha wasn’t laying in. She turned her tv on and put on ‘Game Of Thrones’ and turned it down slightly so it wouldn’t wake the hanyou. “He’s quite cute when he looks like that..” she said softly. Soon she laid down and curled underneath her blankets and covered the hanyou as well. She turned, her back facing the hanyou and she slowly fell into her dreams of the great dog demon.

I’m just so happy right now, you have no idea! I have been waiting those news so much! ♡ Ehem... I try to calm down now. ^^’ So, this chapter became a little long one, also very fluffy and syrupy sweet. Just warning! Hopefully no one will fall asleep, while reading. Oh, and thank you so much for reblogging chapters! :) Enjoy of reading!
Chapter 3 - A dear Memory
Kagome stares at the sky, feeling the coolness of the bench underneath her. One memory has been really hidden for a long time, but now Kagome decides to give it permission to come out. She sighs and clears her mind of everything else. Maybe it would make me feel better this time? Or then it just kills me... Kagome thinks and closes her eyes.
*****
The day began to turn into an evening at the well of a bone eater. Kagome squeezed the familiar wooden edges of the well with white knuckles. She had to get somewhere to calm down, this place was important to her and just right for it. Sango asked earlier about her well-being and Kagome did know well, why she was worried about her.
She was lucky to have Sango as a friend, with whom she was able to clear up her thoughts, like Sango did too with Kagome. Inuyasha and Miroku were certainly not the easiest travel partners. However, Kagome had not been able to give the correct answers to her questions. She felt somewhat restless and went through her distressing thoughts with herself.
Inuyasha was going to kiss me in my room back then and said he would protect me, but... I guess even then he was only thinking of Ki - Kagome couldn't continue her thought to the end, feeling like even the mere thought was still hurting.
“And when I come back here just for a moment, we just get into a stupid fight with each other. As always... Even that tells it, right? No, there's nothing else between us! It wasn't even two-timing before, because there hasn't been anything like that, right? Damn... If only I could talk about this with mom, she could -”
Suddenly she felt like she wasn’t alone anymore, but too late, when someone was already behind her. She startled when she felt a hand on her shoulder. Are you trying to drop me...? She thought as she turned to swing that hand away, but she stumbled and was going to fall into the well.
Kagome instinctively closed her eyes, waiting to fall into the glow of the well, moving to her own time. Or worse, she would just flop to the bottom of the well, among to the bones of the demons. At the last moment she felt arms around her and someone pulling her up from the well. But Kagome did recognize those someone's hands. Amazed golden-yellow eyes stared at her, while she realized that she was face to face with very familiar hanyō.
“Inu-Yasha...” she said in fright.
Their faces changed color in a redder direction, as they noticed how close they were each other and Inuyasha still holding on her for some reason. Why he won’t let go...? Or maybe it’s a good thing... Kagome thought, she was somehow feeling weird. She didn't know how well her numb feet would carry, if Inuyasha would let go of her.
Kagome didn't seem to be happy to see me here, but... Why I wouldn't want to let go of her yet? Inuyasha who was unable to move, thought.
“Oi... Are you okay?” Inuyasha asked softly.
“I’m... I’m just fine!” a little bit panicky Kagome responded with shrill voice, struggling away from Inuyasha's grip. No no no, that tone is already too much!
No, don't go yet… Uhh. Inuyasha thought a little disappointedly.
Kagome slammed into the ground to lean against the well, blinking her eyes. My heart beats like crazy, because of fright... Or for some other reason? Oh, shut up now, brains! Kagome said in her mind. She pulled feet against her chest and buried half of her face behind arms, suddenly feeling how the color flee from her face. Ooh no, did I speak out loud before?? How long has Inuyasha been watching, did he hear me? Damn snooper!
Inuyasha also sat down on the ground next to Kagome. Strange feeling... Where does this disappointment come from? Well, I prevented Kagome from escaping home! He thought contentedly.
“Were you going home? Keh, you shouldn't jump like that, head first! It can hurt if you just hit the bottom!” Inuyasha grinned, Kagome felt how a gust of anger wanted to come out and she had no time to stop it.
“You crazy, you almost scared me to death! Do you have to sneak around like that??” she turned to Inuyasha, spat the words from her mouth with anger in her eyes, but then she was little startled too by her own outburst.
Inuyasha rushed closer to Kagome, after surviving of the fright she caused.
“You were going back home, right?! Well, I'm sorry that I saved Miss sourpuss from falling! Should I just have given you a boost, huh??” Inuyasha barked back.
They looked at each other in anger and their bangs mixed together. Does she look - sad? Inuyasha noticed, when their gazes were reconciling.
He's so... Too close! Kagome swallowed her anger, shook her head and backed away from him.
Damn it... Why this always happens? Situations just explode in our hands, just like that. Even if I wanted something completely different... Inuyasha thought.
“I wasn't running away, what do you think of me?” Kagome glared him. Yes, I know... Sometimes I have gone without telling him, but Inuyasha was the one, who in most cases caused it.
“I just miss home sometimes, even now when I really should be there”, she said with an apologetic tone in her voice.
“Here I'm just able to be a bit closer to home, even for a moment”, Kagome said, while she stroked scar on her knee with her fingertips.
When Kagome has hurt her knee? Why she hadn't shown it to me? Inuyasha looked at her wondering. The “weathervane” seems to have subsided for a moment, but doesn't she like to be here anymore…? He worried.
“Homesickness, huh? Everyone always misses you back here”, Inuyasha said knowing really well, who misses the most.
“Hm, really?” Kagome looked at Inuyasha, who nodded with a smile.
“Thank you, you’re kind when you say that”, Kagome smiled and found herself feeling a little lighter.
Inuyasha often managed to annoy her, but also occasionally cheer her up.
“Keh, just saying...” Inuyasha mumbled while he chewed a straw, feeling how his cheeks heated up.
A moment of silence descended between them. Inuyasha cleared his throat and scratched head with a fingernail. He wondered, how to formulate his question and then just asked directly - to her horror.
“Kagome... About what, or rather, about who were you talking about recently, alone?”
Kagome blushed harshly, suddenly she just wanted to jump into the well and disappear for a moment.
“Wha... You - or no one else - should have been hearing my private stuff, you stupid!” Kagome snapped, struggling with controlling her anger. Why Inuyasha is always challenging me, at the worst moment...
Inuyasha was frightened, deciding to shut up. Why the hell do I never learn?! After all, that woman goes angry from zero to a hundred in seconds... She will probably tell me to sit, unless I won’t shut my snout in time.
If only I had a nose as good as Inuyasha's, I would have smelled him from afar... Kagome thought and snorted frustrated. Then she surprised herself with her courage. I guess there's nothing to lose, just my face.
“You know, about us”, she said like it wouldn’t be a big deal.
“Eh-h...” Inuyasha heard enough to realize it, but he never thought Kagome would admit it to him like that. Why I had to ask... But I thought for a moment, that she would have someone else...
Kagome felt how Inuyasha solidify beside her. Before he got even whole word said, she continued to burble nervously.
“Just that there’s nothing... Uh... You’re just terribly kind, when you take care and protect me, as you do for everyone else around you too, because that’s how you act. And you mean a lot to me, but... There seems to be nothing else between us, right? I mean, if there was anything else, things would be quite different then, I think? Surely, we wouldn't be tearing off heads from each other like this, but instead... Uh... Mmh...” Kagome tried to sound light, but was terribly afraid that it didn't work out very well.
Just a badly escaped thought... How wrong I formulated all that, help! And I almost forgot to breathe... Kagome thought in horror, feeling suddenly weak. She forced herself to shut up and buried her glowing red face in the palms of her hands.
But instead tearing off what? Inuyasha became curious, but he knew he would not dare to ask. He was like a statue, not daring to look at Kagome or barely breathe. Nothing else? Have I just imagined everything...? He tried to deal about things he had just heard, but violent heartbeats and too fast galloping thoughts made it difficult. Luckily, I'm not in my human form now... He thought, then hearing Kagome continuing.
“We're just good friends, aren't we?” Even though I love you more than anything, I just can’t say that to you... Kagome finally huffed, though the rest only in her mind. She would have just liked to clog her mouth to avoid further humiliation.
Her mouth or no other part of her body obeyed of her commands at that moment. Kagome did not dare to look at Inuyasha at all, fearing too much of his reaction. She just had to get clarity to all of this, or she would have gone nuts. Yet remorse struck into Kagome, like a cold stone and the situation began to embarrass her badly.
Why did I answered absolutely anything, what on earth did I do?? How can I ever look Inuyasha in the eye again? What if he talks to others about this, how that silly woman might have imagined there was something between us? What if I just drag him into my own time for a moment and try to shut his mouth about the whole thing? Soon he's probably just bursting out laughing... Kagome didn't know what to do, her cheeks almost burned her hands and panic was growing inside her.
Inuyasha was in his thoughts, while he leaned his head against the edge of the well and stared at the sky. His hands were hidden in the sleeves of the kimono. What exactly did she mean? Her heart is pounding so fast... Where did all this come from now? Did she wish, that there would be - something else? Or is it just me, who hopes that Kagome hopes, that there is something else? Inuyasha sighed, his head was getting more and more confused. Damn, you're important to me, even more! I wish I could only dare...
“I guess so? You’re my best friend, I think...” Inuyasha said very cautiously.
Though he was regretting it right away and slapped his forehead with his hand. My mouth is always open on the wrong moment, damn it... Really, there isn’t man enough in me to admit my feelings, but to swing the sword is at any time?!
Best friend. Kagome was startled by her own disappointment, which she felt hitting into bottom of her stomach. Though she had imagined the worst she could expect to happen.
“I thought so, maybe it’s best like that... I have to go -” Kagome stated and tried to get up quickly to leave, tears were too close to fall from her eyes. What else did I even imagine...
“Oi, just wait! Don’t go -“ You’re really not running away from me! Inuyasha said and acted quickly.
She couldn’t get up, when Inuyasha captured her in his embrace. Please, Kagome. Stay for a moment...
“Inuyasha, what are you...! Let me go!” Kagome miserably wanted as far away from him as she could, but Inuyasha did not loosen his grip.
She tried to struggle away from Inuyasha, as if she had the strength against his powers. But she just had to get away. Becoming rejected seems to hurt more and more... Damn these feelings!
“Calm down, woman! Stop raging!” Inuyasha was a little surprised by Kagome's powers, even though she had no chance against him.
“Let go, did you hear me, you idiot!” Kagome shouted wildly.
“Just listen for a moment -“
“I don’t want to hear! Let me go! Inuyasha, si -”
“Kagome, NO!” Inuyasha exclaimed and covered her mouth with his hand in distress, feeling how the pearl necklace was already tightening menacingly around his neck.
“Don’t say that word! I want to talk to you, we have to talk or I’ll burst!” Inuyasha shouted, despair hearing in his voice.
Kagome just totally frozed. Did Inuyasha just block the sit-command?! Inuyasha seemed to be shocked about what happened.
“I’m sorry, Kagome... I'll never try to block that again, I promise, but I couldn't do anything else... Don't say it now, please! Just don't say the word...” Inuyasha was slurring breathlessly and when Kagome shook her head as saying no, he slowly took his hand off assuming she would at least bite him.
However, Kagome had calmed down a bit. No matter how chaotic the situation was, she noticed how good it felt to be in near him. I haven’t figured out until now how I've missed, that someone would keep me close. That he would keep close...
She turned to look at Inuyasha, who was pale with his head down, looking unwell. Kagome began to worry as she felt, that Inuyasha was shaking.
Inuyasha tried to calm down himself, which was not easy, as he went through a horror scenario in his head. What would have happened, if the command had been fulfilled with Kagome near me? She could have -
“Inuyasha?” Kagome said touching his arm and he raised his head.
“Hey, I-I’ll stay, don’t worry”, Kagome said quietly and although Inuyasha saw concern on her face, for some strange reason, it just reassured him.
“Kagome, do you realize this could have ended really bad way??” Inuyasha asked, grabbing her tightly by the shoulders, his eyes looking scared.
“I would have crushed you under me, if the command had been fulfilled. I really didn’t know, if I had time enough, but I had to try to stop you...” Inuyasha said before he went silent and let his hands fall down.
Inuyasha... Oh dear, what was I causing just now! Kagome felt, how cold shivers passed through her. He must have used all his powers to stop the command being fulfilled...
“I’m so sorry... I-I didn’t understand at all -” Kagome’s eyes filled with tears as she finally understood the seriousness of the situation.
Inuyasha just shook his head and pulled that sobbing girl into a firm hug.
“I don’t know what I would have done if you had -” he said but couldn’t end his sentence.
“Inuyasha, I guess you just saved my life, thank you...” Kagome whispered.
Inuyasha felt Kagome's warm breath on his neck. He embed his face in her hair, knowing that Kagome's scent was something he would never forget.
Kagome didn't know how long their hug had lasted, but she felt it calmed them both. Not knowing what Inuyasha still wanted to talk about, Kagome just was not sure, if she was able to hear what he had on his heart. But she could not leave, because that was the right place, where she had to be now.
Why couldn't this have happened before, how good it feels to be like this... Inuyasha thought with his eyes closed, Kagome in his embrace. After a while, Kagome moved a little further and examined Inuyasha with her gaze.
“Are you okay?” He seems to be somehow himself again, I’m so glad... Kagome thought, when Inuyasha nodded in response.
“You?” he asked, noticing Kagome's slightly pale face.
“I’m, but... Can I stay here, for a moment?” Kagome wanted to make sure, because she had just recently tried madly to go away from him.
Inuyasha was surprised, but he felt mere joy inside and the red color on his face might had revealed it to Kagome as well.
“Keh, as if I even would let you leave...” Inuyasha said without looking her in the eyes. You can stay as long as you want...
Kagome was relieved by the answer, making her feel more at ease. She decided to take a better position and touched Inuyasha’s hand as she took support from him.
“D-damn, you’re ice cold! Stupid, you should have said that you are freezing”, Inuyasha said, took off his red kimono and swing it around Kagome.
“No need to look at me like that. I do well without it, unlike you”, Inuyasha said as he placed kimono over Kagome, so that it also formed a hood on her head.
“Better?” he made sure, looking at her for a moment. That suits you well...
“T-thanks, I didn’t notice how chilly air already is”, Kagome said gratefully, but would not have wanted Inuyasha to get cold either. So warm, his warmth...
“I don’t want you to get sick. We don’t have time for that now”, Inuyasha said, took Kagome’s shaking hands between his and rubbed them to warm them up.
Kagome couldn't do else than stare at their hands, feeling how the heat spread from the kimono and Inuyasha's hands to her own body. Do best friends do - this? She thought and felt, how her heart was pounding faster.
“Kagome, it’s probably time for us to talk, about everything”, Inuyasha said after a silent moment, waking her up from her thoughts and releasing, reluctantly though, her hands.
Kagome knew that, what the end result would be, it remained to be seen later. After all, I can’t help it how I feel. The brain - or heart, let’s do this.
“All right”, she said and hid now her warm hands under the kimono, trying to stay calm.
Inuyasha was thinking hard and tried to put his word right. He didn’t want to ruin this, but he knew he could do it all too well. Just don't back down now, man! Inuyasha encouraged himself. The ears on top of this head sank a few inches down, as did his gaze.
“Kagome, I want to apologize for what stupid things I have ever done along our way. Even now and before at the village I just made you angry, I guess I always say the wrong things or things wrong. And I guess sometimes I was blind to see, what was happening around me. However, sometimes you haven't treated me so kindly either. I mean, I think I have suffered a few sit-commands, even when I have been certainly innocent...” Inuyasha said.
Wow, he really started... Kagome was puzzled by Inuyasha's flood of speech. She agreed but was still silent.
“On the other hand, when you think about it... In those situations, it may have been slightly my own fault too...” he muttered and grope his hair nervously with his hand.
Kagome listened and stroked the kimono in her hands. She was little amazed as he behaved like that. Who are you and where have you hidden my grumpy friend? She couldn't help but think. At least you can't be Shippo, his fluffy tail would have exposed him a long time ago.
“But... That one time, I felt like I had done something really bad, when you said you hated me. It felt... Damn it, it felt like a knife blow to the back!” he sighed. Or rather to the heart...
“And I would never want you to feel that way about me. It seems like - somehow I can't forget it”, Inuyasha remembered the words Kagome said at the time, and they still seemed to cut deep.
Kagome looked up. It feels miserable to see him like that... Inuyasha must have seriously thought about these things, as they still bother him.
Inuyasha fell silent, but when he noticed Kagome's staring, he looked at her.
“What now, did I say something strange?” he asked, seeming to soon lose his self-control.
Kagome shook her head quickly and continued reassuringly.
“No, you didn’t, I just got little sad about your words. I really didn’t know you were still thinking about the past like that. Oh and - I forgive you”, Kagome said smiling and put her hand on Inuyasha’s hand.
“I’m sorry, Inuyasha”, she continued, looking into his eyes and really meaning it.
“I don’t hate you. I wouldn’t even be able to do it, no matter how mean you were to me. And no, thankfully, you’re no longer as mean towards me, as you were in the early days”, Kagome continued quickly, when she noticed, that Inuyasha was preparing to rise to defend himself.
“I just couldn't imagine that we would be here like this, after you tried to kill me and take the Shikon jewel”, she said, but smiling.
I'm not that mean anymore, am I? Inuyasha thought and was ready to throw his protest, but seeing how Kagome smiled to him, he couldn't help but melt into smile himself too. She doesn't hate me, how hearing it can feel so liberating...
“Hey, I wasn’t really trying to... Look who’s talking, I've been a few times the target of your arrows, remember?” Inuyasha said and raised his finger in front of Kagome's nose.
Kagome touched gently Inuyasha's cheek, making him look at her little confused.
“But I didn't seem to be my real self in those situations, right?” Kagome looked at him, smiling sideways.
Inuyasha didn’t found no more defensive words and lowered his hand. Kagome knew him somehow all too well already, which he felt kind of strange, but in a good way.
“I didn’t know you then. You were a bit like an enemy, in your strange clothes. All I had was confused, betrayed feeling when you woke me up from the curse. All that bad what had happened, it felt like, it had just happened day before or something. I didn't know about anything else. The villagers were immediately bugging me as well...” Inuyasha muttered. And I didn't know yet, that I want to get to know you thoroughly...
“I understand. And it didn’t take long time, when on the second moment you tried to block the well with the stone, so I wouldn’t get back home anymore. And on the second, you forcibly pushed me to the well and blocked it, so I wouldn’t be able to return anymore. Because you wanted to protect me, right? And now... The well always seems to bring us together somehow”, Kagome said smiling.
While looking into Inuyasha's eyes, she surprised herself wondering, how much she likes them. Especially when his gaze is as calm as it is now, even gentle. Often when she had only seen those eyes flashing like lightning, from anger or something else. I just want you to be happy... Kagome lowered shyly her gaze, as she awoke from her thoughts.
“When I said that thing to you, I was just so upset back then, for too many reasons. And I couldn’t stop myself, so I just threw all my bad stuff towards your face. It was wrong and I guess, I hated more myself a little. I stayed because I wanted to, it was my own choice and you let me stay. I just - couldn't imagine how much it would... Forget it, it doesn't matter anymore. Maybe at times I felt like you tolerated my presence, just because I was able to see the Shikon shards. To be honest, I was afraid I had made a mistake by staying - just for a little while. Not really knowing at all, what I’m to you and -“ Kagome explained.
Inuyasha listened intently, until he felt that he had to interrupt her. He suddenly grabbed Kagome by the hand, and it made her to look up at him.
“Ka-gome, even though at times you can be really reckless, intractable and insanely challenging... And... And even sometimes it may seem like we’re almost just strangling each other, I still don’t want to lose you because of any silly quarrel. Do you even understand, how much I care about you?” he said very seriously. And how damn hard it has been to admit it...
“Eh, I...” What exactly is going on here? Kagome thought, feeling like her heart would have forget a few beats. I care about you too, but...
“And no, it definitely wasn’t a mistake that you stayed. You haven't been with me just because you see the Shikon shards, you're with me because... I wouldn't have survived this far without you by my side, you have to know that. Also considering others; Sango, Miroku, Shippo, Kirara, you are very important to them too - a friend”, Inuyasha looked Kagome's hand in his as he spoke, and she listened quietly.
“Though, the worst thing about this trip has been almost losing you, more than once. To see, how you have got been hurt... Its been hard, especially if I haven't been able to help in any way”, Inuyasha continued more gently and Kagome noticed, that he was going through different emotional states.
“Especially when I saw you three; you, Sango and Miroku lifeless, as Shippo told me that none of you were no longer breathing... And hear that awful silence, when I didn’t hear your heartbeats anymore. I remembered how you once taught us how to find a pulse in a hand or neck. I couldn't even try it, because I already knew, it wouldn't be found no longer from any of you...
I felt like I had lost the reason to continue our journey. I also felt like I was gradually being left alone again in my own little, beneath me friable world and that was my own fault. I have often wondered, how I would ever be able to return to your time, carry your lifeless body and face your grief-stricken family...” Inuyasha spoke quietly and was silent for a moment.
Kagome watched him with teary eyes. Inuyasha really cares, he does take care of us - all the time... She thought, when he continued.
“I have seen it in my nightmares, felted that heavy guilt and it has slowly torn me into pieces. Hearing Koga’s words over and over again, what he said when he realized, that you had been in great danger because of me. How cold your hands were, how your before so red as cherry blossoms cheeks were so pale... How he would never have let that happen to you. The truth is, that because of me you’ve been in danger so often, that it’s a miracle that you’re still here. And I’m so grateful, that you are”, Inuyasha said and wiped Kagome’s tears from her cheeks. My miracle...
“But we got you all back, thanks to Myoga flea, who removed the miasma. And I do hope, that we are together all the way and beyond. I will protect you with my life, as I promised. So, I forgive you”, Inuyasha stopped speaking and looked into her eyes, squeezing Kagome’s hand gently in his hand.
“Thank you, Inuyasha...” Kagome nodded slowly to him, thinking about everything she had just heard.
Inuyasha just realized to release Kagome's hand and acted, like he was going to scratch his ear. When she didn’t say anything for a moment, Inuyasha began to be a little impatient.
“Well, are you even a little happy now?” Inuyasha asked and his eyes twinkled of the enthusiasm he felt.
“Hm?” Kagome gave him a questioning look.
“Well, when I talked to you like this before, told you about my feelings and thoughts... You once said, that it makes you happy and that - I'm not alone...” Dang it, what’s with the face? Did I just make you sadder...? Inuyasha thought as he looked at her concerned.
She smiled at Inuyasha a little, nodding, for she was happy to hear Inuyasha's thoughts. They had had far too little time to talk to each other in private. Kagome just felt like all the emotions were somehow knotted together inside her, not being able to distinguish those from each other properly anymore.
Hmph. Something here is still not right, woman! Inuyasha thought and looked at her with suspicion. You’re too quiet, you’re never speechless... At least not for this long.
Kagome considered for a long time, whether she would dare to ask, what had been on her mind for a while. Well, once we're now opening up our thoughts... She sighed deeply and determined to dare.
“Inuyasha...” Kagome started and felt, how the painful piece already rose to her throat.
Inuyasha's expression brightened for a moment, but then very suddenly changed to another, seeing Kagome's face as she continued. Why does she look like that...? Did I do something wrong?
“I guess you still see only Kikyo in me, like before... Do you see her when I sometimes dress like miko? You couldn't even look at me then... And do I smell like her and just because of that, you think - that you care about me? I know, I’m useless now, because my powers are gone, but... I have tried to say in a million times, that I’m Kag -” Kagome finally cried out with a voice, that wasn't recognizable when it cracked, no matter how she tried to sound convincing.
This can't be true... How I haven't noticed this before, that she still thinks...! Inuyasha thought in shock and shook his head as he listened to her.
“Just hear me now and well!” Inuyasha interrupted, grabbed tightly from her upper arms and forced her to look himself in the eyes.
Kagome looked broken and it hurt Inuyasha like hell. It's my fault, that you are still feeling like that... He growled in his mind.
“When I look at you, what I see is just yourself, whatever you are wearing”, he replied firmly.
“You never, ever have to think about such things again!” Inuyasha said but began to feel hopeless. How in the world will I convince you? At first, I did see the features of Kikyo, but soon I learned to see you only as your own self and it’s just a good thing.
“Kagome, you have your own heart to take care of and that belongs only to you. And you smell only and alone just from yourself - damn good, do you understand, Ka-go-me?” Inuyasha said softly, smiling encouragingly and meaning every word.
He relaxed his grip, hoping that Kagome would finally believe him.
She tried to calm down, as her heart pounded in her chest so hard, that she was already little bit afraid for it. Damn good? He likes my scent... Kagome felt blushing completely. Does it feel like this, when you’re happy as can be? When you just want to scream for joy?
The fear inside her seemed to fade away. The times had been very demanding no matter in which time she was, so she didn’t properly remember, when was the last time, that she had felt as good as now. She couldn’t help but think, how adorable Inuyasha looked right now, how beautifully he spoke to her. A tear fell on Kagome's cheek before he had time to stop it. Inuyasha noticed it and took the tear on his finger.
“Hey, no more these, okay? I have seen those small pearls of yours so very often, aren’t they ever gonna stop hurting you?” Inuyasha asked little sadly.
Kagome landed now completely near to Inuyasha, pressing her ear against his chest. Inuyasha's breathing was blocked for a short moment, but he soon gave in to the familiar feeling of joy. He puts his arms around Kagome. It feels so good, when Kagome is close like this... Does she feel the same...?
“They don’t always hurt. Sometimes it’s the opposite, like now”, she explained closing her eyes.
She heard Inuyasha's heartbeat, which was unusually agitated, but he still seemed calm on the outside. Maybe it's some hanyō thing... Kagome thought as Inuyasha stroked her hair, like his mother had sometimes done to calm him down.
“I bet my head as a pledge, that you’ve cried a lot less in your own time”, Inuyasha muttered. You've cried too many times because of me...
“Inuyasha... I've felted here, in your time, more than I have ever felt before anywhere - with you”, Kagome confessed, to herself too.
Inuyasha's heart was beating faster than ever before, he couldn't calm it down. Is this the right mood, of what Kagome has been talking about? At least that's how it feels I think... Now. Or never. He thought, gathering courage. And I will sharpen my nails on everyone, who dares to spy on us! Inuyasha thought, glancing around them, not noticing others nearby. Be a man, do it!
“Kagome - I can’t say if there was something between us...” Keh, is there even any ambiguity in it... Inuyasha paused and continued slowly.
“But I hope you don't mind, when I make sure, that there's definitely something between us...”
Kagome rose carefully from Inuyasha's embrace and looked at him without believing her ears.
“You, what...?” she asked, even there really wasn't nothing ambiguous in Inuyasha's deep gaze, with which he shackled her.
Inuyasha pulled Kagome gently a little closer to him. He wants to kiss me - still... She thought, knowing her answer, and met Inuyasha's lips with her own. And I want to kiss him.
Inuyasha was afraid, that soon he would wake up from a dream, the best dream ever. Dear Kagome, my Kagome... He couldn't believe, that he had finally dared to show his feelings again like this. And even less, how Kagome responded to those.
“Inuyasha, I...” Kagome began and retreating from him a little, she lowered her head shyly as thoughts crisscrossed in her mind.
“Your answer might be ‘I don’t mind’, right?” Inuyasha asked happily, looking at her with his head slightly tilted.
Kagome smiled and her answer could be seen from her face, even miles away.
“But oh no, more than just my best friend, that sadly wasn't enough for that yet...” Inuyasha said hoarsely, looking into her eyes.
They are - sparkling! He smiled happily, as he slid his hand into nape of Kagome’s neck, caressing it and pulling her into another kiss.
Inuyasha's touch was driving Kagome crazy. I've never been kissed like this before... She felt that kind of sensation in bottom of her stomach, that made her want to get more closer to him.
Kagome wrapped gently her arms around Inuyasha's neck, and he didn't resist at all, but pulled her closer to himself.
As the kiss became more demanding, Kagome felt Inuyasha's sharp fang touching her tongue, making her draw breath a little.
“Sorry -” Inuyasha said, as smiling Kagome shook her head silencing him, continuing the kiss. I try to be careful, I don't want to bite you unintentionally...
Neither of them had not felt such a feeling before, neither would not want to stop. Not now, when the other was finally there - near, for each other.
But Inuyasha had to do so. He looked at Kagome while stroking her back.
“When your family... Eh... Interrupted us last time, at your home...” he tried to speak.
“Yes?” Kagome asked, she had cursed that moment in her mind so many times.
“I hoped so much back then, that Sota wouldn't have appeared at the door of your room. Because I didn't have no idea, how would I ever dare to do that again”, Inuyasha continued.
“It’s good that you dared now, and I didn’t mind at all”, Kagome said as a smile spread across her face.
I never want to forget this moment, you... Kagome said in her mind, resting her forehead against his.
“Are you going back home?” Inuyasha asked quietly.
Are you crazy, after a kiss like that? Kagome thought.
“Not yet, but tomorrow I have to go back. I only came to pick up my schoolbook, which I forgot last time, but time goes by so fast on this side... But I’ll be right back, as soon as entrance exams are over. We have things like Naraku and Shikon jewel to take care of, so we still have a long way to go. By the way, we should probably return to others, they may already be worried”, Kagome said. Though I would have liked to stay right here, even forever... She thought and wanted to remember everything from that moment.
“Yeah, we should go back. But I just want to say, you will get your powers back, I’m sure of it. Don’t worry about that, okay?” Inuyasha said to her.
“I really hope so. Inuyasha, would we still keep this as a secret?” she proposed.
Inuyasha nodded, as thinking the same thing. Although it might probably be somewhat difficult to hide my feelings anymore, after now when I have already revealed those...
“It’s agreed then”, Inuyasha replied, agilely rising from the ground and holding Kagome still in his arms.
“Do you want a ride?” he asked, kissing her one more time.
Kagome nodded with a smile, when Inuyasha gently lowered her to the ground and she jumped on his back. Feeling the warmth of Inuyasha against herself and the cool breeze on her face, as they ran through the forest towards the village, she felt a good feeling that totally filled her; happiness.
*****
Kagome opens her eyes and gets up to sit on the bench, slightly trembling. She is surprised, how the memories feel still fresh, even after those years.
A tear drops down from her cheek to her lap, but she finds herself smiling. I was so happy back then. Inuyasha not only wanted to protect me, he felt something much more towards me. But how was it supposed to end like that...
However, since that evening, as their gazes met, they both felt a longing close to each other. When they passed each other, their hands could only touch for a few seconds, but that was enough to make their hearts pound faster. On a few rare times, Inuyasha had unexpectedly hugged her, when they were hidden from the gaze of others, for even a tiny moment. Those little things, how big they were in those moments...
Kagome wakes up from her thoughts to look up at a bird, which rises on its wings from a branch of an old tree.
“I miss you, Inuyasha, wherever you are”, she puts her arms around her and whispers to the morning.
...To be continued...
A/N: That’s was it, hopefully you liked! On next week I’ll take a nap on a surgery table, so I’m not sure when I’ll be able to post chapter 4. But hopefully everything goes fine and that day will come sooner or later! Again, Kagome and Inuyasha shared their memories, each in their own minds, in their own time. That’s why there are perspectives on both points of view in the memory part. Just for clarification, why it’s like that. Take care and please, leave a word or two, what did you like about this chapter! Thank you for reading. ♡

Higurashi New 1 | HypMic 1 | Wandering Witch 1 | 100-man 1 | Yashahime 1 | Tonikawa 1
A whole new season, a whole new set of notes...I still have to catch up to the previous two seasons, but that’s for downtime.
Also, you know you, the HypMic stan, have done a good job when you see a blogger friend who you didn’t know previously was a HypMic stan suddenly having what appears to be a Doppo avatar...welp, it’ll go right along with the Jakurai ARB chibi I currently have.
Higurashi New 1
I’ve only seen the first episode of the old version, so I dunno how well this new version will fare…
…okay, first things first: it’s kinda dark, y’know? Had to turn up my computer’s brightness to see it was Keiichi (?) whacking at what appears to be Rena (?) or some other girl.
You can see the space landing (or at least, one space landing) on the calendar.
I seem to remember they got the Bakemonogatari character designer (or something similar) to work on this.
This is playing out very similar to the old version. I watched it last week with my anime club.
I’m still wondering…why remake something that’s not even 20 years old yet?
The duster didn’t happen in the old version. I also don’t recall a Hojo existing in the first episode.
…oh wait. This blonde is Satoko. I remember her, but I don’t remember her playing tricks on Keiichi. I just remember she was part of the games club…(It’s likely that actually happened though, since the wiki page for her says it was critical to the plot.)
Last time, there were definitely no comments about “being a man”…Update: Were there…?
Just faintly hearing the sound of cicadas is enough to imagine myself melting in summer…eesh…
I think Rena keeps saying kawarimono instead of kawaii mono (or something similar), hence the intentional misspelling.
Aww, last time they outright mentioned Kenta-kun was from KFC. It’s no fun scrubbing the reference out…
Is Kaguchi Tetsuya going to become important later? (His name is on the calligraphy behind Keiichi.) Also, they skipped the penalty game…aw.
I bet Rika is going to give Satoko something evil, like a whoopee cushion or a toy snake or something…Update: Close enough.
LOL, I saw Type Moon in the credits list.
…oh gosh. That stinger at the end. That’s…not scary, but rather heavily intriguing in that way horror can be.
Crusade 1
…huh? The simulcast starts on the 8th in my region…there’s a 14 minute thing here which is called “episode 1”. Is this a teaser?
The lines in Nene’s eyes are slightly distracting…
I thought Jhin was some voice actor I really liked, but…nope. Just Shunichi Toki.
…and of course, not only is Nene clingy as if she and Iska are a couple already, her boobs moved around slightly. *sigh* Boob jiggle. It kills entire anime for me.
You can barely see the car in the darkness…(LOL?)
I thought it was referring to Nene from New Game for a second, instead of this Nene which is more annoying than that.
I think this is the first half of the episode. That means when the true debut happens, I can figure out where to skip to and go from there.
They didn’t even show the entire shot of the guy falling down…you lazy animators.
Why do all the women in this anime have big boobs??? That’s almost as distracting as boob jiggle.
In essence, that was just a really long trailer. I’ll finish this when the real debut happens, like I said.
HypMic 1
I’ve been worried at times that either all my dreams will come true with this, a la Boueibu, or all my nightmares, a la Kado’s ending. Let’s hope it’s the former and not the latter. For those not in the know, I first met HypMic in 2017 and tried my hand at translating a relationship chart for it…that ended pretty badly (if you really want to go down Memory Lane that badly, see this). I then saw HypMic again in 2019 when in Japan – mini clear files in a Lawson, to be precise – and regretted I got manga instead of that, so when I played Mudae in Discord in January this year, I spun Gentaro and, through him, learnt this might be the next best thing I could get into, and lo and behold, it’s kept me going through the most of the year since. Update: I’m going to keep this as SFW in my language as I can, okay? That means censoring galore.
…LOL, TV-MA? It has a corresponding rating in my region (which is slightly softer than American TV-MA, oddly enough, because we have an actual R rating), but I didn’t believe HypMic would have a MA in America too. There’s no sex (or sexual jokes), no rape, minimal swearing (but that only is a PG in my region)…so why? Brainwashing? Update: Terrorism, as stated in a later note…and, of course, if you actually read the warning (I skimmed over it), strong language.
They didn’t even translate the…oh, Funi subbed it up top. Don’t worry. Update: Thank goodness I could read it, regardless of whether it was English or Japanese anyway. *shrugs*
LOL, Dice is ignoring Otome…What a hint.
That does beg the idea of why Riou carries around a gun. According to ARB, it’s a tranq gun.
Notice Jakurai is in an orphanage.
I’m laughing so hard. They wanted the TV-MA for the word “bulls**t” in the OP? Is that it?
Paper? Never expected that from Gentaro’s HypMic. I always thought Gentaro’s mic was the “scare people with bright lights” type. I also had a problem imagining how the mics manifested (a worry specifically warranted by the anime), but I think the anime will help me decide/see how that works.
I learnt the ep. title from reading Twitter coverage of an Abema variety show by DH and BB, so that’s not surprising, but where does the quote come from? Update: According to Goodreads, it’s by Janne Teller.
Other notes on the OP while I rewatch it: 1) Hifumi got a terrible deal. He doesn’t get too long to show off. Nor do Jiro and Saburo. 2) Gentaro’s “writing in genkou yooshi” style seems to be inspired by Bungou Stray Dogs or the like. 3) I thought, prior to the anime coming out, the OP sounded like an anime OP and not a rap song (which is disappointing, considering this is a rap project), but it actually starts as a rap song and then devolves into something more anime-sounding which is more like a call to arms. Appropriate, given the words “ends corruption”. 4) Ramuda can ride his speakers, it seems.
…ah, I know the feeling, Jiro, of someone younger than you telling you off…(*whispers “smart a*ses!”*).
“Brother Ichi”? It’s a direct translation, sure, but the fans have literally always left the term alone, so I’m just slightly thrown off by it because “Ichi-niisan” is a pun (1/2/3, like Hifumi).
Hmm…I was worried about that CGI. So they’re treating this series like Idolish7 in that rap scenes have CGI models? *scratches chin* It’s good they’re translating the songs though – it’s hard work for the translator, but the fans need to know the meaning of the raps in case they come up later somehow. Update: They have a rap translation team! Even better!
Hold up – there’s a mirror on Saburo’s mic??? I never saw that before. Also, it’s the “drops from the sky” approach for how the mics appear. I think the manga took a more “it manifests more like magic or digital graphics in reality” approach, but I was thinking those were the alternatives I had to pick from. Update: What looks like more pipes in the back is the mirror. Observe.
What is that sphere on both side shelves…? It doesn’t seem to be important, but I noticed it and now it’s bugging me.
…yargh! I’ve been outed! Jyuto’s in a right-hand-side-driver car! (referring to a piece of fanart I did which had Jyuto + steering wheel on the left)
I’m laughing. How many times did they make MTC say “f***”?
…now that is roughly the manifestation I imagined Samatoki’s mic would do, except this one appeared from the ground. Also, the hamster was way too cute for an anime like this.
The lyrics didn’t mention sharks. They mentioned pigs, actually. Still dropping some good beats in that translation, though.
I’m laughing so hard! Does MTC mean swearing and s*** exploding on the dozen? It would make for a good action movie!
Ohhhhhh…the infamous cigarette kiss. I didn’t think it was going to be this early in the anime, but in retrospect, that’s what trailers do – show content from ep 1 to hype stuff up.
I’m laughing too hard! Samatoki’s face when Riou suggests eating beetles and stuff…hahaha…
Ramuda’s studio! We haven’t seen that outside ARB.
They even translated Gentaro’s weird way with pronouns and writerly language as old-timey speech.
This is exactly like that one card in ARB, huh?
…this Gentaro seems so smug.
It seems this “Seibo Shibuya” is a parody of Seibu Shibuya.
…Is that evil? (Actually, that sounds like a very Ramuda plot.) Update: Referring to using Ramuda’s rapping (+/- illusions) to get money for Dice.
When it says “coffee and chill”, it actually says “coffee time” in Japanese.
I think it was funnier when Gentaro was a fast runner in the manga, but this seems more in character. Doushiyou, doushiyou~? (What to do, what to do~?)
…oh yeah. The terrorism plots they throw down so nonchalantly. That would explain the MA rating more so than stuff going boom or swear words.
With my part of the brain used exclusively for man candy, my brain goes, “Hifumi clung to Doppo’s butt…” (LOL)
Jakurai does speak fairly formally, which contributes to his image as a doctor (and his meme status as a religious person). I don’t think most translators actually dig into that, so you can see it being reflected here.
There was a pun. See, the first part of kyuusai no child (9 year old child) is similar to kusai (smelly) but also kyuusei (acute [disease]). I dunno which it was, but either way, it’s a good insult from my man.
That wolf pose is cool. It’s almost a heart, but also suggests viciousness.
O…Oh! That’s actually really, really funny! Instead of “Doppo-chin”, the translation is “Doppomine”, a play on both “Doppo mine” and “dopamine”.
How is Gentaro dangerous??? I can see why each of the others can be interpreted as such, but…Gentaro!!!
…there appear to be several Buddhist shrines in Shinjuku that look like that. Trying to find the correct one would require more knowledge.
…yup, because there was no Sasara or Kuko, us fans assumed it would be the 1st division battle. Seems we’re right.
…how can Ramuda jump so high??? Unless he was standing on the rail and then jump-oh.
Anyways, so it basically went within my expectations. All the music so far seems to be new though, which is a bit of a disappointment because it would’ve been cool to see IWGP (the song, not the similarly-named anime) animated, Good Morning, Ikebukuro or even rotating through solo songs like some other anime do.
100-man 1
I saw the manga around on Magazine Pocket as well as in a local bookstore pre-COVID, but whether I’ll like it is another story. I thought I would have to watch this a week late, but CR has it available right now.
…what is that blue…thing?
Mico (Mico) Live?
FamiliarMart (Family Mart), LOL.
Quest de Pon (in the corner of the blue guy’s sign) is a parody of Panel de Pon, I assume.
LOL, those stock Japanese images of people.
Starbooks, LOL.
Is Yosuke gonna get a harem…? Oh dear.
Maybe it’s future!Yosuke? That would be a bit cliché.
These round chicks are kinda cute…Kinda.
…Yuusha Shikkaku. I’m not sure if that’s a No Longer Human parody, but if it was…it was kinda bad(?)
I’m pausing this.
Tonikawa 1
Another Crunchyroll early debut. I have little if any experience with Kenjiro Hata, so I dunno how this might fare.
Why do I get DitF (Darling in the Franxx) vibes????
I like how the one girl gets irked at the split-thingy and then pushes it away.
Tsukuba University exists.
These designs remind me of…BokuBen.
Call me far too used to current trends, but I think Nasa will be isekaid after Truck-kun strikes. Update: Nope, I knew I was wrong but I had to put that down anyway.
Ooh, these ukiyoe images are pretty.
This is from a dude’s perspective…so I don’t see why Tsukasa (I know her name from promo material) is cute. Sorry. *shrugs*
I predicted the “I’ve never had a girl over!” line. Not 100% in wording, but in the gist of it.
I also predicted the marriage paper. I’ve never read the manga, but this is starting to seem quite rote.
Comic Sans typesetting…! Grah!
“Yuzaki” could’ve been made of different kanji to Nasa’s, so that’s why Tsukasa has to confirm it.
Makeinu (loser dog)…what now? (on the sign)
LOL, a plant for the married couple to take care of for as long as the plant lasts. Cute. *cue Kaguya face*
Is Nasa ever going to meet the inlaws…?
…in the end, Nasa is a horny guy after all…*sigh*
I can’t see the appeal, so I don’t get why this is so sickly sweet according to others. I’m dropping it, even though I can see it’s better-made than 100-man in the basics.
Wandering Witch 1
This anime was delayed slightly, so I don’t know what day it’ll show up weekly. I’ll assume Saturdays in my region (the original date) until proven wrong.
That cough from the father is quite ominous.
“This reminds me of Kiki’s Delivery Service,” I sigh happily, as I almost imagine the person who comes to the door of this place Elaina knocked on closing the door on her. Then…that actually happens and my heart sinks a little.
Why are the witches against such a young apprentice, though?
Is this the whole “wax on, wax off” approach?
This reeks of gaman.
I think the writing system in this is based on katakana. I can tell (or guess?) because there are 4 symbols at the end and “Elaina” has 4 symbols in katakana.
I thought Fran was the Stardust Witch because her hat was full of stars.
Elaina’s parents have had a year to think over these rules…no wonder they’re so thought-out.
Yashahime 1
I wasn’t planning on watching this, but the review I read said it was alright for casuals so long as you remember the main cast of the OG by name. Inuyasha, according to my library records, is my 2nd manga (Detective Conan being my first) so I do fit that criterion.
Higurashi, hmm? Kagome’s child. I honestly thought Towa was a dude, though.
…*eyes widen* I might have read the final volume of the manga (or held off when I had the access to it), but I sure don’t remember what Kagome did after that. Welp, regardless of whether I do remember the ending…I got spoilt. Thanks a bunch, anime.
…wait…is that Granrodeo…? Update: Nope. It’s SixTONES, from Fugou Keiji.
This OP reminds me so much of Detective Conan, I can’t even…
Oh-hoh! Sango and Miroku – that darn pervert – they got married! (I feel old now…*sigh*)
Kikyo, eh? *raises eyebrows*
It’s literally like these guys never changed. Kinda like CCS…but I was wondering how Miroku would fight without that black hole in his hand…
Oh…don’t go reminding me about that whole “Tetsusaiga” deal again…I had a hard time getting my head around that. (Turns out a small tsu can even stump translators.)
Shippo means “tail”, which is probably why they’re attacking Shippo by the…uh, tail.
…rumour has it Rin won the “Sesshomaru bowl” (as I heard be called from Guardian Enzo of Lost in Anime), but…that’s a major squick factor if it is. I mean, it’s…Rin…she’s so small. There’s no way anyone like her could be pregnant without growing up.
Reading the review that led me to watching this, apparently Sakura (from Naruto) got benched when she became a mother in Boruto, but I’m glad Sango didn’t.
…oh. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh. Inuyasha does the Naruto run. That means we diss Naruto for problems that were already rife in anime way back when I was a fledging manga fan…
Couldn’t you all just be upfront about this stuff as soon as you know about it????
It’s times like these when you really realise where your preferences in media come from. In this case, I’m referring to guys in distress and the gals that save ‘em.
This looks so much like a magical girl fight, I can’t even…
“You’re attacking too soon!”
Well, that was a nice trip down Memory Lane. I didn’t remember the end of Inuyasha aside from “the gang defeated Naraku” so there’s bound to be more surprises in store, but otherwise it seems to be a solid pick.
