This is what looks like a long one about the push and pull of Sand and Ray inviting each other into their lives in episode 5, sorry not sorry, but it's actually mainly because there's lots of pretty gifs? (because First and Khao are pretty obviously) here we go!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ray spent this episode involving himself in every moment of Sand's day, dipping fully into Sand's world. Learning about Sand, following him around, being fed by Sand, letting Sand dress him up and choose his clothing, listening to Sand's music, going the places Sand wants or needs to be, meeting Sand's mom, finding out more about why Sand is who he is. Learning about how Sand takes care of other people, how Sand is always doing things for other people.
Getting up on a stage and singing a song to the boy who is used to being on a stage, singing for others.
Ray is taking steps in the right direction- towards Sand, away from Mew. Learning how to care for, and about, another person, who actually cares for, and about, him as well.
Sand is letting him in, but Sand is also not putting in the effort to learn about Ray and Ray's life at the same time. He's letting himself get swept away by Ray's charm and light but not trying to see what's going on in Ray's life that's driving him to seek solace in Sand's life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The simplest representation of it is right here. Sand doesn't want to go in Ray's car; he doesn't trust Ray or his driving, he won't let Ray take him in his car. Ray can come with him, he WANTS Ray to come with him, but he won't enter Ray's space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(that cute satisfied smile, how dare you First Kanaphan)
Sand is aware that Ray has something holding him back from being serious about a relationship, from being more than friends, but he doesn't try to find out what it is. He asks for one piece of Ray's truth in this episode, by asking what happened to Ray's mom- but he's asking about Ray's past, not about Ray's present.
Of all the things holding Ray back he clearly didn't expect it to be another person, but he also doesn't want to hear any kind of explanations or excuses from Ray after he finds out about Mew from Boston in the messiest way possible short of Boston sending him the make out video. He's been so focused on pulling Ray into his world that he wasn't prepared to get hit with this kind of information and immediately shuts down and closes himself off from Ray.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ray tries, in the most direct way that he's done so far, to invite Sand in, to ask questions, to find out the truth, to find out about him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Sand still won't let this go both ways, he won't take the step to involve himself directly in Ray's life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Turning over closes himself off physically from Ray and pushes him back out, and that's that. He's done, without really starting.
Could and should Ray have been more upfront that he had feelings for someone else when he started getting involved with Sand? Absolutely, especially as soon as he started pushing for more of Sand's time and attention. Ray isn't innocent here, though I have a lot of opinions about how genuine Ray's being in love with Mew is even by episode one, and definitely by this point.
It can also be really hard to process leaving behind old feelings for new ones, especially when you're dealing with people from what are or what feel like VERY SEPARATE parts of your life. Ray is a King of Compartmentalization, and his school life/friend circle/feelings for Mew have been kept almost entirely away from his time with Sand outside of the bar space that they all occupy, the overlap in the Venn diagram of Ray's life; alone at his place or Sand's, making out in his car at Sand's house after the party but barely directly interacting AT the party in front of Ray's circle, at the record store, at the concert, at Sand's mom's club, are all away from the rest of Ray's life. It can be much easier to keep the aspects of your life that make you miserable away from what makes you happy rather than deal with bridging the gaps between them, and Ray is honestly incredibly relatable for wanting to keep them apart even though it isn't the healthiest or best way for him to be dealing with things, for him or for Sand.
Nick is the first person to actually intrude on Ray and Sand's existence in tandem to each other, and he then brings Boston into their orbit and all hell breaks loose. This is probably exactly what Ray was afraid of happening- the two halves of his life coming together, in a way he absolutely cannot control; the bitter and unhappy side meeting the shining and wonderfully hopeful half, and an explosion that leaves everything in tatters.
Normally when Sand tells him no, Ray is able to use his puppy dog eyes on Sand to bring him around, but that's not going to work this time. Sand needs to be willing to go further into Ray's life to have Ray in his, and Ray needs to be open and honest about everything instead of only offering tidbits when directly asked or pressed into honesty by circumstance. Hopefully whatever it is that does work is something that involves them both being healthier, happier versions of themselves! But that's not what this show is about so we'll see how it goes.

Only Friends Music EP5 (part 1/2)
The Extra Hour
Another installment of the Only friends music series. The details continue to be amazing, all praise Jojo.
Quick recap, music is used in three different ways:
Just background music (Background) - It’s important and creates an atmosphere, like using Disco Frog for Mew and Cheum’s chat at the bar. These I will not use unless I see a theme or something important later.
Playing with Music (Playful) - It’s like body language, the music will pause, start up, move along faster or slower. It's intentionally moving with what is happening on screen.
Verbal/Vocal - Music that is telling us things. It could be songs that have names that seem important or have lyrics that may or may not be in the show. If there are lyrics I will include them, but will specify if they are in OF, and where they start and stop.
Master List here, in my pinned post. These will be long and split into parts, mostly because of lyrics and Music players. Written after EP6 came out, so some EP6 spoilers.
Thank you @rocketturtle4 and @shouldiusemyname for help editing and song lyrics.

Song: Happiest I’ve Ever Been by Big Girl Scene: Ray and Sand are domestic in the kitchen Type: Vocal
Lyrics not in the show (transcribed by me):
And I haven’t cut my hair since I walked through the door It's never been quite this long before Taking some time to get all settled in And I’m the happiest I've ever been I never thought that I’d move out of town There’s something about this place that holds me down Made some mistakes but I can start again And I’m the happiest I’ve ever been I’m grateful to know you So grateful to show you All the things that I’ve been holding deep within Love is complicated That times I feel frustrated But I know that in the end Our love will win And I’m the happiest I’ve ever been I never thought that dreams could really come true I never thought I’d ever find someone like you We lose our way but always lean back in And I’m the happiest I’ve ever been (x3)
This song starts as Sand cracks an egg into a frying pan and makes breakfast, an act of service and time for Ray. In the voice over, Sand had just described how his most precious thing is time, it keeps running like an hourglass, but Ray gives him one more turn. Now, he’s choosing to give that time to Ray by making breakfast. Today, Ray isn't an intruder demanding precious time from a reluctant Sand. Today, Sand is happily giving Ray his time.
Two important themes in this song are resilience and connection. Ray’s need for connection was front and center in the last episode, when we saw Mew and Ray’s past. Last episode Sand and Ray started to build their connection, their relationship, but it's foundation is built on sand, and once it rains and the waters rise, the house will fall. This unsteadiness will continue to be a theme this episode.
The second theme of the song is resilience. Love and relationships can and will be tough, but the song seems to allude to the fact that if they can find their way back together, then their love could survive.

Song: Tell Me Something New (Tigerblood Jewel Remix) by Wellness Scene: Kitchen sex Type: Vocal
Lyrics not in show:
I waited for someone to save I wanna tell you something new You drove us both into a wall I drive away into the night  And I, contemplate for a while (Chorus) Don’t you think it would be for the best If I packed my stuff and leave sooner than this Don’t you think it would’ve been for the best If I packed my stuff and leave sooner than this Don’t you wish I would’ve been someone else I wanna fill your gaps without making a mess And you, won’t you tell me something new I wanna tell you something new I wish you all the best I can But I stop myself for a while I’m sayin things I don’t believe The panic’s rising up in me And you, why won’t you tell me something new (Chorus)x2
Last episode we touched on the song, Almost the Same. “Without the words, feelings unheard, can be just as sincere. Something’s not right.” Their relationship isn’t quite right yet, they have not fixed their root problems, in this case, Mew and Ray’s past. Sand is unwilling to touch the subject of Mew, while Ray is unwilling to touch the subject of who they are to each other, because they fear their budding relationship will crumble around them.
Tell Me Something New is a prophetic song for the end of Ep5 and 6 from Sand’s point of view. Sand took his time to save Ray, only to find out that Ray really did have a past with “The glasses boy”. He thinks that Ray is using him to fill the gaps left by Mew. After they drive into that wall, Sand thinks that maybe it was all a waste of time and they’re unable to make a connection again and really Talk about it. If they had talked, and told each other “something new” before the end of this episode, they might have been strong enough to withstand Boston.
I’m sayin things I don’t believe The panic’s rising up in me And you, why won’t you tell me something new
Later, they will be hurting, and Sand will protect himself by saying things he doesn't believe. But, for now, we get something nice.

Song: I Wanna Get High On You by Elwin Scene: Top and Mew go on a bike date Type: Vocal
Lyrics in the show:
Feelin’ in my bones I can feel it in my veins Hands in the sky I can feel the winds of change You live and you learn And I hope I’ve seen enough To make something right And make up for what I’ve lost I was down but things are looking up I wanna get high…
Lyrics continue, not in show:
(I wanna get high) on you Caught by surprise by you Want you to make my heart feel As much as I know it should I wanna get high on you …. Things turned around Didn’t ever think they could I’m done with the bad I need a little bit of good Set out in the world Like everything is new Stepped on a path That lead straight to you I was down but things are looking up (chorus)
If this is from Top’s perspective then it's telling how he's replacing the high from drugs and the pleasure from being a playboy with the high he gets from being with Mew.
Top’s song, Lonely Party from EP1, talks about needing someone to find him a soul and a purpose in life, that he’s lonely even though he’s surrounded by people. Here with Mew, he’s feeling free, feeling different with Mew. It might not be love, but for now he wants to keep Mew around while experiencing this high. Mew is introducing him to a fulfilling high, the likes of which he has never experienced before, and all the more fragile for it, whether or not Top knows it.
If viewed from Mew’s perspective, he thinks he’s learned enough to go forward. That he’s ready to try to fall in love, ready to feel that new high.
Either way, they’re asking the other to make them feel something more, “make my heart feel as much as I know it should”. From Mew, he knows of love from books, as for Top, we do know it has been a while since he’s even cared about another person’s pleasure in bed. So they both seem to be chasing a high that they believe the other can give.
Tumblr media
Song: Next Station by I’MIN Scene: Top and Mew continue their biking date after sitting for a while Type: Vocal
No Lyrics heard in the show, translation by google translate:
Verse 1: The emotions mixed in the sighs Just as when we meet and intersect, we become lost, I can't figure out what to do And on the passing road, for a short and long time Even though everything around me has changed The destination is always the same Pre-chorus: Maybe you can feel the pressure that I been living on I can say that it’s been on my mind but I’m moving along Chorus: The emotions mixed in the sighs actually Just like you can't figure out where to go when you meet and cross paths, Just like you can't figure out where to go Maybe one day, maybe one day it’ll feel alright Verse 2: chasing something that disappeared As you go, before you know it With a nonchalant expression I walked for a while Like a handle stuck on a train Like those worn out chairs Sometimes I want to stay still for a while Pre-chorus: Maybe you can feel the pressure that I been living on I can say that it’s been on my mind but i’m moving along Chorus and Outro: In the passing light Among the scattered people Behind the approaching expressions Maybe one day, Maybe one day it’ll feel alright (X2)
Thanks to I'MIN for responding to me on Instagram for the lyrics!
Music starts after Top says “I am happy! As long as he doesn’t mess with me” and they get up to continue to bike. Music stops as Mew gets hit and his glasses break. Beginning the metaphor of Mew’s “sight” being taken away. Top could be feeling pressure from everyone but Mew to be perfect and a stereotypical ‘top’, and here he can try for a day where it feels alright.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Song: Falling Through Scene: Sand refuses to drive with Ray/The motorcycle ride Type: Vocal, Playful
Lyrics heard in show:
Some day you’ll rise And come into a field of view Be visible to a few
Lyrics not in show:
Some day you’ll rise You said that an angel will illuminate the sky But my reflection is slowly fading out In the vision of you and I I’m missing every moment with you And I’ll be waiting  Waiting here for you I feel this is too good to be true But times are changing I’m falling, falling through Summer moved on I followed every trace of you Grasping every mem’ of you You said you were sorry but I know you had to leave And maybe that’s why I’ve been fading out At least that’s how I feel I’m missing every moment with you And I’ll be waiting  Waiting here for you I feel this is too good to be true But times are changing I’m falling, falling through Some day you’ll rise and some day you’ll see That I’ve been waiting, I’m waiting here I’m waiting here for you Some day you’ll rise  And come into the field of view Be visible to a few Some day you’ll rise
This song plays twice. The first time is after Sand says “I don’t trust you with my life” which does hurt Ray. The moment passes quickly, but Ray sees that Sand doesn’t think of him as someone who can be trusted, an emergency contact.
Ray doesn't want to be a burden, he's got a car, air conditioning, why not use it and use him to go places? Ray is used to using his house, money, alcohol, as incentive to get people to be with him, like when he was trying to get Sand and the girl Sand was with to come keep him company. Or the song (Stay) True from EP3 when Sand and Ray make out in the car.
I've got camels and candy I can be your daddy … I've got cigarettes and brandy Which could come in handy If you just help me loosen up my hand grenade’s fuse
Ray's whining might seem like he's unwilling to go on the bike, but I wonder if it's because he wants to be useful. If Sand takes away his usefulness, what value does he have? Meanwhile, Sand might actually have only wanted to show Ray how his life is.
The guitar starts to play as Ray agrees to go with Sand. Another song, La Chapelle Dormant, plays while Ray and Sand tease each other for a moment. Falling Through starts properly as they drive off.
"Some day you’ll rise" the imagery of the sun rising brings to mind Ray. Specifically, Ray rising out of the darkness of his depression or rising above where he thinks he is, a burden on society, someone who only knows how to spend money, to be who he wants to be.
Ray wants to be a good friend, a dependable person, a happy person with true connections with the people around him. Ray wants to be an emergency contact. This faux date gives Ray a glimpse of a day where his money or material possessions are not the priority or his appeal. Sand is showing him that Ray can have fun, be valuable just as himself.
(Or it could be hinting at the song "Burst to life" in EP6, the song that plays while he's taring into everyone at the bar. But more on that in EP6. )
Even while they’re having fun together, the music tells us how they are still on unsteady ground in an undefined relationship, Sand waiting for it all to fall through and he’ll fade. The line, “I feel this is too good to be true” calls back to the song, The Happiest I’ve Ever Been earlier in the show:
I never thought that dreams could really come true I never thought I’d ever find someone like you
Both songs are optimistic, both songs have faith in love getting them through to the bad times, getting them through the night.
[2/4]
Tumblr media
Song: Faster Car by Loving Caliber Scene: Top fixes Mew’s glasses in the café Type: Vocal
Song plays very very quietly in the background and the lyrics sound very muffled, which adds to the ambience of the cafe scene.
Lyrics “heard” in show:
I've been feeling so small Watch the clock ticking off the wall But tonight I'm letting it go Spend my coin for show I'm gonna be myself Or I could be someone else No one's stopping me now I'm gonna skip my breaks I'm gonna make mistakes I just wanna feel alive It's just what I do when I'm out so Try not to hold me down Feel alive when I'm in this town Look at those beautiful stars I wanna drive a faster car Nothing can break me No, no, nothing can break me Try not to hold me down Feel alive when I'm in this town Look at those beautiful stars I wanna take a trip to Mars Nothing can break me, No, no, nothing can break me Look at those beautiful stars I wanna drive a faster car Lay my troubles to rest Blow the smoke through my cigarette City lights looking fine And I know that this is my time now I'm gonna be myself Or I could be someone else No one's stopping me now I'm gonna skip my breaks I'm gonna make mistakes I just wanna feel alive It's just what I do when I'm out so
Song starts with the scene, Top is fixing Mew’s glasses. Mew’s blind now, his way of “reading” is gone, and he’s relying on Top to fix it. In this episode we're seeing Mew letting off the brakes, ready to go faster in this relationship.
The line, “I’m gonna make mistakes” and the earlier song I Wanna Get High On You, saying “You live and you learn, And I hope I’ve seen enough” are interesting because one is accepting that mistakes are going to happen, but the other almost mirrors Mew’s surety that he knows how to read people.
From Top’s point of view, he could be himself, or he could be what Mew wants him to be. Going back to Lonely Party from EP1 again with the lyric “You gotta help me find a soul”, Top seems to be only known for being Top-tier, and with Mew he doesn’t need to be that, but he does need to be what Mew wants. So even now it feels like he may not be his real (sober) self. Though what his real self looks like is debatable, on one hand, Top seems to be a critique of “tops” in the BL genre. He’s rich, handsome, strong, experienced and possessive. On the other, he seems to have a hard time saying no to pleasure, given how hard it is for him to say no to Boston in the earlier episodes. An earlier theory discussed with friends was the idea that Top was so numb from drugs that he just let things happen to him. Whether or not this is true, he still seems disconnected from himself. It will be interesting to see how his character arc and background unfolds in the second half of the series.
Tumblr media
Song: So Perfect by Lindsey Abraham Scene: Top and Mew at the cafe, talking about glasses  Type: Vocal
Top says, “I like you better looking like a nerd.” and the song starts when Mew retorts “Whatever happened to worrying about my eyesight?” and the music pauses while Top explains that he does want Mew to see him clearly, but the glasses make Mew look both cute and sexy. The song continues playing as Mew blushes. Top is saying all the “perfect” things to make Mew feel good, while nudging Mew to do something he wants Mew to do.
Tumblr media
Song: Minimal Meaning by Marten Moses Scene: Top pays and Mew feels insecure Type: Verbal
Mew notices something a little off with the waiter when he hands off the check, and abruptly feels insecure. He rubs his arm in a self soothing gesture as Top pays the bill, seemingly unaware of what Mew is thinking. Is Mew looking for meaning when there is none? Either way the music conveys Mew’s feeling of unease.
Tumblr media
Song: Sunset beach by White Bones Scene: Boston notices Nick’s change in appearance. Type: Background
The song is funky which is a departure from Nick and Boston’s normal genre. This genre shift paired with the piano chords of the song Strong Bonds that play while they’re in the pool hints at Boston’s feelings for Nick might be stronger than he’s willing to admit. Strong Bonds pauses while Nick asks about Boston’s other partners and continues as Boston talks to Nick about being recorded by Gap. The music builds as Nick tells Boston it serves him right, and Boston kisses Nick playfully. Boston goes on to talk about not sleeping around, how it feels empty lately. Boston might not be realizing his bond with Nick is making that feel empty. This is the first time Boston has talked to Nick without Nick having to sulk first.
Tumblr media
Song: With You It’s Different by Blue Topaz (again) Scene: Boston and Nick in the Pool Type: Vocal
Starts to play when Boston says “There’s only you” and they kiss. Last time this played was with Top and Mew in the shower, Top saying he cares about Mew’s pleasure.
With You It’s Different, Nick is different for Boston, he feels safe, accepting of Boston’s worst sides, and Boston can be affectionate. There is a bond, but Boston is unable to or unwilling to put words to what he actually wants Nick to be since he’s assuming he’s moving to NYC after college.
Tumblr media
Song: Minimal Meaning by Marten Moses (again) Scene: Top looking at Boston in the pool Type: Vocal
The same song that plays in the café while Mew is insecure about the waiter and Top. Here it starts when Top sees Boston with Nick, mirroring his unease about what Boston might be planning with getting close to Nick.

The big Boston Vs Ray fight… let’s talk about why?
1. Boston is only caring about himself. Boston wants to make Ray feel as shit as he does. He can’t take the cutesy shit when in Boston’s mind Ray should be as hurt by the truth as Boston is. (The boring answer. Kind of doubt this. Boston does like Ray and Mew there is a reason why they have been friends for years.)
2. Boston feels uncomfortable with SandRay because it is a side step from BostonNick. Boston likes to tell the truth. Ton is hurt by Mew calling him about Top (for whatever reason not going into that again). He has been omitting the truth from Nick about Top. Possibly he feels bad about it since Nick is definitely as in love with him as Sand is in love with Ray. When he’s calling Ray out it’s projection. He doesn’t think things are going to work out with Nick and it scares him. Boston loves the truth. Really look at his lines 90% are true. It’s probably eating at him that he and ray are stewing in lies so he cold shock treatment Ray and Sand because he can’t do that to himself and Nick although he wants it to happen subconsciously. (Humm maybe? But I think Boston is semi blind to what’s going on with him and Nick.)
3. Boston does want what’s best for Ray. Boston in his own fucked up way care about his friend that is genuinely why he took Mew and Ray’s photo. That’s why in his black room in the intro he has photos of the gang. Boston doesn’t want Ray to two time himself. Boston sees that Ray is still obsessed with Mew and to Boston it is for the best that Sand who is love eyes at Ray not waste his time. Ton was trying to save Ray from getting in deeper with Sand. Ton has only seen this tiny window into SandRay and Ton already feels like he’s failed Mew who is currently sleeping with Top. Ton is trying to rip the bandaid off for his friend in his own fucked up way. (Possible.)
4. Boston Likes Ray not in a friendly way. Talked about this before but is still going strong by this scene. Nick tries to pull Boston to his room initially but Boston wants to stay with Sand and Ray. Boston feels extremely competitive with Mew because that’s who Ray likes. Boston when he gets drunk can’t hold back the truth that might get his objective of getting with Ray. Ton believes Ray only sees Sand as a friend but he can’t hold back the truth that Mew is currently fucking Top. Ton bringing up the photo of RayMew is because Ton still feels salty about it and wants Ray to get over Mew and end things with Sand because it’s annoying and in the way. Ton has no problem pushing Nick out the way because he doesn’t care he’s 100% focused on telling Ray what’s actually going on. He wants Ray to get over mew not just play rebound game with Sand. But the reasoning is so Boston can move in because Ray is his actual type and has been his goal for years. (Unlikely but it’s fun.)

Sand witnessing Ray drink like that after his argument with Boston must really hit different especially after Ray told him how his mother drank herself to death. Honestly, his alcoholism and substance abuse might be a bigger issue in their relationship than Mew. I'm scared but also curious to see how they'll tackle this

I cannot stress enough what this week's episode of Only Friends meant to me...
I'm still trying to pretend like the last few minutes of the episode didn't happen and that Boston DID NOT ruin my boy Sand's bday, but alas we must address what happened.
Sand is easily the character that I relate to the most because of the constant movement within a day, and the feeling of loneliness that comes as a result. When you meet someone who brings a welcome distraction, it is difficult not to put that person in a special corner in your heart; hence the obvious weakness he has for Ray.
I thought the concept of the 25th hour was super romantic, and very original (I think I would melt if someone referred to spending time with me as their 25th hour). I really admired Ray's dedication towards his heart (and Sand's) in trying to move on from Mew. Their evolvement as friends, and as a romantic pairing, doesn't feel like Ray is replacing Mew with Sand, but rather accepting that Mew is someone he can love as a friend, and Sand is someone he can love romantically.
I actually didn't think it was bad that Ray is referring to Sand as his friend, as that is the boundary that has been established thus far, and neither has made a move to communicate a change. But I too am only weak for First Kanaphan's doe eyes and sad expressions (I had a visceral reaction to seeing him cry).
According to the preview, it seems like shit hits the fan in the next episode. But I'm gonna be totally honest, I'm mainly watching this show because I'm HOOKED on FK's chemistry and story line. So if things blow up between them in the next couple of episodes, then hopefully that'll mean they'll work through their issues and end up together (although I'm sad to say I don't think there's much hope for our couples within this universe).
See you guys next week!

For the first time I feel actually grateful the next episode is a week away bc that's the least amount of time I need to recover from EP5. Sandray BROKE ME, bostonnick saved me until they broke me again and topmew meh as usual but they had the best storyline hands down. The metaphor with mews eyes is fucking genius.
I think I'm done for today, Tumblr will probably ban me for spamming but I think I got it all out of my system and can sleep in peace. Good night internet

Only Friends Music EP5 (part 2/2)
Part one covers the first half of Ep5, or you can find other episodes on my pinned comment.
This is a series of posts taking a closer look at the music of Only Friends. Reminder: Playing with the music is like body language, it moves with the conversation. Verbal says something either through lyrics or something like a song title.
[2/4 cont.]
Tumblr media
Song: Miniboss by Lasse Lyx Scene: Concert, girl comes up to talk to Ray Type: Vocal, Playful
Starts as Sand says “You never paid attention to me” and continues playing without the guitar while Sand and Ray banter. The conversation is another hint that Sand has been watching Ray before they met. Or at least Sand has been paying attention to Ray. “If it wasn’t my glorious kindness for giving you a ride home that day, you wouldn’t even have spared me a glance.” Sand brings up the savior thing, and Ray makes a joke about giving generous tips to Sand. But Ray’s real test is money, with the music dispersing when Ray offers to give Sand money for the beer, and starting up again as Ray nods and lets Sand pay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Song: Flo by Molife Scene: Girl talks to Ray at the concert Type: Vocal
Ray just goes with the flow and is polite to the girl talking to him. The song stops as Sand rejoins him with the beer. I wanted to add both pictures because of the difference in smiles.
Tumblr media
Song: Night Love by JEKD  Scene: Song sung by band at concert Type: Vocal
Lyrics in the show:
I see you passing by, walking through the night And you are so beautiful, standing under that light Meeting you tonight, is it coincidental or fated But the loneliness we both share has now been sated On this dark night, I just want to keep you by my side On this long night, I fear someone might change your mind  I need you right now, let’s make the night mean something Night love, baby, it’s nightlife It’s about you and me in a sexy night Night love, baby, it’s nightlife Only you, my sexy lady
Another Thai song for Ray and Sand, another song with loneliness, another song with fear of someone else. Sand is fearing Mew and Ray’s relationship, even as Sand spends more time with Ray, building their relationship on uncertain and unspoken grounds. They’re building a sandcastle, easily kicked over or washed away by the waves.

Song: Minimal Meaning by Marten Moses Scene: Top and Mew hold hands in front of the host stand. Type: Verbal
Starts when the host glances at Top and Mew holding hands. Mew views it as judgment from the host, third time this song has played this episode. This is the second time this song has told us about Mew’s insecurities, and once with Top’s feeling of unease.

Song: And So It Begins by Across the Great Valley Scene: Mew “Sees” Top with his other senses Type: Vocal
Mew lets go of his senses completely and just sees Top as he wants him to be. Mew’s Top is more expressive, smiles more, and seems softer.

Song: Window With A View by Sleepaway Camp Scene: Parking garage Sand talks about his dream Type: Vocal
Lyrics in show:
One more night in my head Stirring up dust and kicking cobwebs Looking for a light I’ve never known Will be it be out in the wilderness or will it be homegrown
Lyrics not in show:
One more night with the dead I’ve been spending more time with them than the living And if you’re just the company that you keep I’ll stay where I am for eternity I don’t know If something’s going to come my way I don’t know But give me just a little taste ‘Cause I need something To hold onto I need more than just a window A window with a view And all this looking out Is just a symptom of a heart filled with doubt ‘Cause when I start looking in I can’t tell the end from the beginning I don’t know If something’s going to come my way I don’t know  But give me just a little taste I need something To hold onto I need more than just a window A window with a view
Sand is stagnant, kicking cobwebs in his head. He's doubtful, unable to take a step play for an audience, he's holding onto Ray even though he's afraid because Ray offers him a (ray of)light, a taste of something different.
This episode is all about Sand living his life by what he needs far more than what he wants, how every minute of the day is important and used to the fullest to save for the future and survive in the present. But this episode, and this song are about how that’s not always enough, “I need more than just a window, [I need] a window with a view” Sand is looking for something more, hope for the future and the dreams he thinks about in the quiet moments. Sand sits there with Ray and tells him of his dream and the song speaks of his uncertainty mixed with his need for something more, a whisper of a dream, a ray of hope.
Ray, in episode 6, accuses Sand of not caring about singing, that he only wants the money. Which is not completely wrong, and it isn't completely right. Sand does care about singing, but he's using it to live, and seems content with the money it brings in. He doesn't want to lose what he has in order to possibly start perusing a bigger dream. Sand doesn’t dare to take that next step and dream that he might play at those festivals.
The song ends when Sand yells “Huh” in the phone call and his real life intrudes on his dreams once again.

Song: รักคุณเข้าแล้ว I’ve fallen for you by Micro  Scene: Ray sings on stage for Sand Type: Vocal
Lyrics heard and translated by the show [lyrics in brackets translated by me]:
I’ve fallen for you  I’ve truly fallen for you They say I’m unamicable Truth is I’m just shy around you I’ve fallen for you Now I’ve gone and fallen for you [It’s hard to flirt with you  I don’t dare take the risk I want to look again]  I look at you You turn around You nearly knock me off my feet I’ve fallen for you
Ray has used singing and music to try to express and process his emotions and feelings in the show before, and this time he chooses this song to sing to Sand. He’s getting as close to a confession as he can right now, Ray’s been the one pushing their relationship to this point, and Sand’s been drawing lines in the sand (sorry?). Sand's trying to protect himself from Ray, but at the same time enjoying being around Ray. But this last line, defining who they are to each other, is the scariest line to cross. And one of the most important if they want to to fix their foundation.
A lyric that isn’t in the show is “Maybe I’ll sing a song to let you know (how I feel)” which is what he seems to be doing. Ray is uncertain, unable to move forward, but enjoying the past few days he's had with Sand. While Ray is up on stage singing this song, Sand’s mom figures them out and asks “I don’t think he’s just a friend” and Sand looks like he was going to deny it before he rethinks and says “I guess not, let's wait and see.”

Song: With You It’s Different by Blue Topaz Scene: Mew and Top hug in apartment Type: Vocal
Mew sees that Top has posted their picture to Instagram, with the caption “One day with broken glasses kid”. Top says he never has posted anything like that with anyone before, and the music starts after Top hugs Mew and asks him to stay over. It’s the third time this song has played, second in this episode.

Song: The Faintest Touch by Howard Harper-Barnes  Scene: Top and Mew kiss Type: Vocal, Playful
While they kiss and awkwardly take off their own clothes, there is no music, which makes it a little more awkward to watch. The music that plays after Top asks Mew if he can see it disjointed and has no melody. Which given the themes of this and previous episodes about sight, senses, reading people, being high, and being bewitched, makes me wonder if the question should be “Are you bewitched by me?”
As Top steps in closer to Mew, and the disjointed music settles into an orchestra piece right before Top says “I love you” and they kiss again. As Mew sits on the couch, the first notes of The Faintest Touch plays.

Song: Forbidden Love by OTE Scene: Sand’s house Type: Vocal
No lyrics in the show:
Laughs came so easily tonight You’re aware I’m prepared to keep you tight ‘Cause everything you did tonight I swear in every sense you did it right I’d like to keep this piece of mind Don’t wanna lose myself now In forbidden love My heart mends so easily tonight Just get it, get it right Gimme some now, gimme some more  (x4) Love felt so real to me tonight I’m aware I have to prepare to lose it right I like to hang with you Don’t wanna get into  Forbidden love Laughs came so easily tonight Just get it, get it right Gimme some now, gimme some more (x4) Forbidden love(x4)
Song plays at the scene change, sounding like it’s coming through a radio. Ray is on Sand’s balcony, and Sand gives him an edible. Even though there are no lyrics in the episode, they’re worth looking at. In the first verse, “Laughs came easily tonight,” It's easy for Sand and Ray to be together, they want to keep this relationship as it is, it feels good. It’s still forbidden love, Sand has told Ray multiple times that he can separate love and sex, that they should stay friends. Ray and Sand keep coming back to this forbidden love.
Love felt so real to me tonight I’m aware I have to prepare to lose it right

Song: Drifting Away by Mama Zula Scene: Boston, Nick, Sand, Ray party Type: Vocal
Lyrics heard in show:
How long will I have to wait How long have we been too late Now I wish that we never met So that I didn't have to try to forget you
Full song lyrics:
Give me something Something good I'm wasted on the thought of you Head is spinning, I can't move Smoking eyes In a groove  No, I Can't can't get you of on my mind You're still Still, still with me all the time How long will I have to wait How long have we been too late Now I wish that we never met So that I didn't have to try to forget you Drifting away (I am) Drifting away Wasted youth Wasted love Once filled with potential but I wasted it I'm wasted on the thought of you Don't know how to cut me loose (Cut me loose) Can't can't get you of on my mind You're still Still, still with me all the time How long will I have to wait How long have we been too late Now I wish that we never met So that I didn't have to try to forget you How long will I have to wait How long have we been too late Now I wish that we never met So that I didn't have to try to forget you Drifting away (Now I'm) Drifting away Drifting away Drifting away
They edited the song, so the lyrics during the party ask the question: how long does it take to forget someone? It’s too late to have the conversation that they should have had, their relationship is too fragile. Boston wouldn’t be able to kick their sandcastle over and ruin everything.
Themes of fading away have been around since episode 3, with Don’t Let Me Be This Way, played in the scene with Ray and Sand eating Sand’s railroad rice.
Oh God please don't Don't let me be this way, I Can't breathe, I can't I can't communicate, I Find every way To start another day and How many more Cycles before I Fade?
Then there are two mentions of fading away in Falling Through from Sand and Ray's motorcycle ride earlier in the episode.
You said that an angel will illuminate the sky But my reflection is slowly fading out In the vision of you and I … You said you were sorry but I know you had to leave And maybe that’s why I’ve been fading out At least that’s how I feel
But now, now we have the wish for the feelings to go away, wishing these feelings never had happened like in Tell Me Something New from the Sand and Mew kitchen scene at the beginning of the episode.
In the last scene of this episode, Ray is going to watch their relationship drift away, unable to find the words to fix it.

Song: Trouble by Trouble The Eastern Plain Scene: Ray and Sand in bed Type: Vocal
Lyrics heard in show are edited:
You wait, but still it’s Trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble now
Full lyrics:
Oh hear, the ocean is near Where you dug a hole And buried my fear And we, scattered like trees Sometimes in line But I’m down all the time You wait, but still it’s  Trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble Too late, it’s all Trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble now Arrive late at the scene Nothing makes sense  Don’t know what you mean You can’t put all things aside There’s no way out and  God knows I’ve tried  For better, or worse it’s  Trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble So save your tears it’s  ‘Cause it’s trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble now You take all that is left Nothing to mourn And no looking back A sigh, we’re caught in the wind Where our story ends Another begins You wait, but still it’s Trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble  Too late, it’s all Trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble now
Song starts after Ray says happy birthday to Sand’s back. Sand has turned away, verbally and physically turned away from Ray and their fragile cracked relationship shatters. The words Sand has been dreading this whole time were thrown into his face, in a stronger relationship Sand would have the courage to ask Ray what Mew means to him. If they had fixed the foundations before, they would be able to talk.
Ray sees no way out, Sand sees nothing to mourn.
