Under the Miracle Cherry Tree - Overall review
Tumblr media
I had to make a separate post on this drama, even if I wasn’t trying out this overall review thing, I needed more space to talk about this drama. It really entered my top favourite dramas, i’m still not over it, not yet. This is a masterpiece in my opinion, and there’s so much to say about it so, without any further due, I’ll just start my review.
Plot
The story revolves around a teenager suddenly coming back to life and reconnecting with his friends. And mostly, making them reunite. One thing I really liked about  this drama is the fact that there is main plot, which is about Kota being brought back to life, but every episode could almost be taken separately because they have a one episode plot line. Of course, it’s all a chronology in the same story, but really if this was on specific day on TV and you miss a week, you would be easily able to follow. The simplicity of the plot, the scenario, everything was on point, everything was coherent. Nothing was unnecessary.
I think the major strength of this drama was the way it talked about mourning and going on after losing a loved one. I lost just recently my grandad, it’s not the same as losing the one you have a crush on, but I could relate to Mei’s journey. And even Iori’s journey, with the guilt he bears. And we kind of know all along the outcome of the whole story, but we still want to keep on watching. Also, it’s just such a perfect circle, when we got at the end of the last episode, I felt it was very satisfying.
One other thing I liked is that even though they added some under-plots if I may say like this, they were always relevant to the main plot, there wasn’t any additions that didn’t make sense or was just there to make us feel good or to put it simply, only to fill the blanks. Everything was well balanced.
This drama deserves a solid 10/10 for me. It was fresh and unique, even though it’s not the first a deceased character comes back to life. This drama was just spot on real.
Acting
As opposed to when I started watching J-drama, the acting style just changed so much, I see more and more mature themes and that’s what I really like about Japanese dramas, even though I still like shows like Hana Kimi where everything was over the top. In this specific one, it’s honestly so real,  you would tend to forget that they are acting. Not even once did I got pulled out of the story because the acting was too forced or literally too bad. I genuinely laughed and cried along with the characters of the story. It felt pretty intimate. Sano Hayato and Iitoyo Marie did an excellent job and I’m only mentioning the two of them because they were the main leads. But everyone was very good. I wouldn’t say it was perfect, sometimes I kind of thought that some emotions weren’t conveyed exactly well, but overall, it was.
A good 9/10.
Soundtrack
I have to talk about the music all alone for this drama. There weren’t a lot songs for it, but the soundtrack was just so on point, whenever the “theme” song I would feel my heart start beating faster and it built the anticipation very well. Plus the melody was just so beautiful. I think that listening to it right now would stir up the same feelings then when I watched because it just fitted the whole plot and aesthetics so well.
Another 10/10
Visuals
There’s not much to say about costumes and props because it then again a modern day drama. Some outfits might have been questionnable to me, but fashion in Japan and Canada are different, which is totally normal, so I can’t have any judgement on that. However, one thing worthy of noting is the cinematography. The shots are beautiful. The set of the drama too. There was lots of thought behind it, seriously and like... It was just amazing. Not only was the story interesting, but it was visually enchanting. So I was very pleased. It’s always such a  shame when a movie or a drama have such a great plot and everything, but visuals from 20 years ago. It shouldn’t be that important, but it still is. Because we tend to watch less of what isn’t pleasing to the eye.
Again, solid 9/10
Would I recommend or not?
I absolutely recommend this drama. If it’s not on your watchlist, I suggest you consider adding it. I you like stories about friendship, about mystery and growth, this drama is absolutely for you. It’s well written, the plot is refreshing and interesting. The episodes are short and there’s not many of them so you’ll watch through everything pretty quickly. I would rewatch it. That’s just how much I enjoyed it.

Citizen Kane, 1941 - ★★★★★
Tumblr media
I have never enjoyed this movie as much as I have this time. Just this time, I found that it immediately clicked. From the groundbreaking integration and replication of newsreel footage to give you all the set-up and still manage to leave you within a labyrinthine plot would have been dynamite at the time; confusing but explosive; and today it's still great, it leaves you wondering if this is a documentary or a traditional film. The unfurling of the plot you already know is to come is very Shakespearean, ensuring that character is embellished rather than the plot being centred.
The simplicity of the thrust of the plot belies its deeper themes and the interview format still holds up. But I’m more in love this time with the still outlandish elements: the fact that we don’t see the character taking us through his journey. He’s a cypher; A stand in. Rooms are muddy with cigarette smoke and cut with fantastic jump cuts and German expressionism shots; It’s the balance and mixture and boldness of this film; the use of framing and frames, paintings, reflections. Doorways to enter one man and watch someone leave another. For a film that mixes so many styles (for example an entire montage where a principal character breaks the fourth wall!) it feels completely and utterly fluid and cleverly conceived in its entirety. Just comparing it to Maltese Falcon same year, the difference between film conceived still as theatre and film as a medium are clear in this year alone.
The way the spectre of Kane refuses the traditions of two-shots and instead glides over behind people, peers from between the wrought-iron and curtains; The stunning close ups; and the way people talk over each other constantly in a way that we’re used to now, but back then would have confounded, is this real? Remember this is only 3 years after the War of The Worlds radio broadcast. I love how bold this film was allowed to be without studio interference, only in the 60’s and 70’s would directors start to replicate some of the techniques used in this film.
Orson Welles as Kane is smooth and tightly wound. I found watching his downfall electric, sad and deeply human. And more than anything, present: The two newspapers, one already cooked with the headline FRAUD AT THE POLLS, in particular.
The black and white image is beautiful, maybe the best I've ever seen. Contrast pops on outfits, sets and cinematography are amazing. No detail is lost and yet it doesn't seem too greyscale or too black and white, too dark or too blown out; In the sets you have streamers hanging and pooled around columns like shredded newspaper, the interior of Kane laid bare, undone, the beginning of his downfall.
When we see Kane's expression in his opera house it’s a whirlwind; he's stalwart and blinded, driven against all odds, alone. A shaft of light on his face like the fires of his ego, his need to be right. Which is why it's a subtle wonder why his wife, singing on stage, is not as terrible as the audience makes her out to be; Maybe it’s Kane hearing her how he wants to hear her. His infallible view of his own success. And when he claps, he’s clapping alone. He has fallen.
The sound design of the waning opera, the diegetic moment of the woman screaming after the slap, frames during fights with inert dolls in them, that jump-scare with the bird, and many more tiny details mean the film is utterly loaded with a ton of subtle clues. And as tense, immediate and awkward in places as if it was made today. I’m astounded how similar Orson Welles directing style is to David Fincher's (albeit without Fincher's adherence of coverage) with the carefully used application of dialogue and sound, blending cutting edge technology, camera tricks and techniques. I’m looking forward to doubling this film with a viewing of Fincher's Mank.
The ending (Rosebud) reveal isn’t a surprise anymore but that’s not the point. It's an elegant ending that can reframe the previous hour and a half almost any way you want, and to pull out from the film the themes that meant the most to you. Citizen Kane is enduring for its impact and influence at the time, for altering the path of cinema. But it endures now as a superb character drama, for its timeless messages and for its sheer and utter craft on display.
The film has in its closing act, the people all around Kane, his staff, silently watching his demise impassionately, like the statues he collects, they are, to him, also ultimately empty. And when we see the sheer collection of belongings catalogued after Kane's death, they stretch out before us like New York City. This was Kane's Xanadu and it's not just a grand name for a grand place; Kane tried to rule, he tried, like the Kings of old, to be loved by his subjects, to bridge their differences, but they turned against him. The newsreel at the start, the modern equivalent of a beheading, with the same enduring finality.

Evaluation Question: Comparison
“In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?”
Although the definitions of codes and conventions may be common knowledge at this point in my media career at A2, it is important to keep in mind exactly what they are, so I know what I should use as reference when creating my own content.
Codes are simply devices used in media products, (also called micro elements) that make up the whole, finished product (also called the macro representation). These include symbolic, technical, enigma, institutional and referential codes and they are everything that the audience sees, hears, thinks and feels. For example, institutional codes make the studio that created the film known to the audience in the form of titles appearing at the beginning and end of a film. Enigma codes, however, are within the film itself and make the audience ask questions, keeping them captivated. Conventions could be described as ‘generally accepted’ ways of showing things - they define what is ‘okay’ to do and what is not and work together with codes to create the entire film.
Main Task - Short Film
In order to ensure that I cover every aspect of my short film in terms of the way it uses, develops and challenges forms and conventions of real media products, I will break it down systematically into its core elements; location, costume/props, cinematography, editing and narrative. I will show how I have taken inspiration from, developed further or challenged the conventions of each respective element within the genre.
Location
My short film is set in the modern day. The genre of the film is leaning towards comedy, although the focus of the film is a fantasy-type world that the character lives in. Nevertheless, the general setting is everyday locations such as a suburban house and a school. As most media texts of this genre share this setting, my short film is conventional.
Tumblr media
^ This image shows the location of the protagonist’s house. It is a quiet area, showing that the he and the other characters in the short film are all ‘normal people’. This was the intended setting for the film, as it allows for the plot to occur (it allows the protagonist, Will, to enter and exit his dream world and return to the normal one, thus creating the comedic effect). Many comedy films are set in the modern day, as they allow for the creation of everyday scenarios that the audience can relate to. For instance, a comedy set in either the future or the past would have to make reference to elements of the modern day in order for humour to be understood or even created.
An example of a modern comedy film that is set in the modern day is Office Christmas Party:
Tumblr media
^ Released late 2016, Office Christmas Party follows all the conventions of a comedy film, the setting included. It is set in modern day, in an office building, where the majority of the film takes place. This is an environment that is common to and is visited by many people everyday - the audience will understand e.g. office etiquette and the hierarchical system of employee and employer, allowing a film in the comedy genre to take advantage of this and break these conventions to create humorous situations that would otherwise need more context or exposition to be understood.
The same is seen in my short film, except I have not limited myself to just one location; my short film takes place across a wide range of locations, from an ordinary suburban house, to a school, to a library. In this way, the setting appeals to every kind of person. Although the intended audience for my media product is young adults, especially as the protagonist of the film is themselves a young adult, the scenes in the film are set in areas recognisable by everyone, where comedy can easily be created by subverting conventions of everyday social situations without explanation as to why what the audience is seeing or hearing is funny - it is easily understood.
Costume / Props
Costume
The mise en scène costume codes are both conventional and unconventional for the kind of short film that I am creating. For example:
Tumblr media
^ The protagonist, Will, is wearing clothing that is appropriate to the time setting of the short film. He is wearing a hoodie with jeans and trainers, so his costume not only matches the current time period, but also the conventional/stereotypical clothes of people his age. However, the colour of his clothes is what truly characterises the protagonist - the colour grey is commonly associated with darkness or depression, along with black, but instead of creating a sombre atmosphere like one might suspect, it serves to represent the difference between Will and the rest of the characters in the film world. Whereas everyone else is wearing ‘normal’ clothes, i.e. modern clothing, Will seeks to be different.
Additionally, Will’s apparel changes all throughout the film, depending on which dream he is in. In each of the dreams, he is dressed as stereotypically as possible to represent the character he is supposed to be. For instance, when Will is dreaming of being a spy, the audience would be able to connote from his outfit that he is in fact a spy due to the mise en scène costume code of a black trench coat and fedora.
Another example of appropriate mise en scène costume codes in my short film is when Will is dreaming about being a professional footballer;
Tumblr media
The audience can easily tell from his outfit what he is supposed to be - he is wearing a standard ‘football kit’.
Props
The props used in my short film this year are a lot more involved than last year, making them a lot more conventional as well. For example, I wanted the protagonist to be the kind of person that is interested in fantasy. The way I decided to show this was physically, in the form of a prop.
Tumblr media
^ As one of the ‘dream sequences’ that the protagonist was to go through involved him being dressed as a spy, I thought it fitting to merge the genres of fantasy and a spy-thriller in a comic book prop. However, as I was not able to find any material that I could deem usable for the short film, I had to create the comic book covers myself. As it was not necessary for the audience to see the inside of the comic book, only the creation of the exterior was required. As the prop was only to be seen by the audience for a short amount of time, simplicity in the design was crucial, so the audience could tell immediately what type of comic book it is - therefore, I named the comic book “SPY”, in large letters on the front. The small details add a lot to his character and helps conform to the convention that the main character of a film is usually a little bit different than everyone else. I have made another blog post on the creation of the covers.
Another example of a prop that was required for one of the dream sequences was an electric guitar. This is as Will dreams in the short film that he is playing the riff of a song (”Layla” by Eric Clapton) on the guitar.
Tumblr media
^ This is from the shortest dream in the short film, and occurs when Will is walking to school, listening to the same song. The guitar was required for the verisimilitude of this scene.
This scene does not necessarily challenge the conventions of other short films, but the audience does not expect it; a character listening to music is something you might see quite often, but having them play the song they are listening to is unique to my short film and feels more natural due to the fantasy-comedy genre.
Cinematography
The cinematography of my short film is quite conventional of comedies. There is a mixture of all different types of shot. This is as there is not a specific theme required that the shots have to follow, but rather that the shots I used had to be the most appropriate for the situation. For example, an audience might expect to see many close-ups or extreme close-ups in a drama film, as that is the best kind of shot to evoke emotion from an audience, as the they can clearly see the character’s facial expressions, whereas in my short film, many different shot types were required to match the situation and to give every scene a different feeling/emotion/atmosphere.
Tumblr media
^ One of the few close-ups in the short film, used here in a conversation between Will and another character.
Tumblr media
^ A still from Titanic (1997), where a close-up is used of the protagonist Jack, incorporated through an over-the-shoulder shot. In this way, the cinematography of my short film uses conventions that are seen across various media products, adapting them for my use.
Editing
Continuity
I made use of continuity techniques all throughout my short film in order to ensure that it was smooth and enjoyable to view.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here, match on action is used to continue the shot of Will walking up to the sign on the bookcase to the next shot where he points to the “sport” section. Match on action is a very conventional editing method and is seen across all kinds of media products. Another editing technique that I made use of was shot-reverse-shot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shot-reverse-shot is used during a conversation between Will and Ben in the library. This technique allows me to show which character is speaking and also allows me to show the facial expressions / reactions of a character to what the other person said. Above, Will and Ben talk about a football game that they saw, with the first shot also incorporating an over-the-shoulder shot of Ben. This is a very conventional method of editing and can be seen in many media products (like the example above from Titanic).
Additionally, I used continuity to show the protagonist’s interest in sport, or specifically, football. In Scene 1 in the bedroom, various football trophies are visible during the establishing shot on the character’s window sill;
[insert picture]
Moreover, the character’s duvet is a West Ham United one. Then, later in the short film, when he is dreaming of being a footballer, he is wearing a WHU football kit. Every film and short film uses continuity like this in order for it to be more believable - it adds to the verisimilitude of the film. Therefore, I made sure that I paid attention to these smaller details to make the character and the film world more alive and real.
Narrative
The narrative of my short film could be viewed as conventional, as it follows the life of a teenager in the modern world. It is conventional, as my short film is a comedy, and many films in the comedy genre are also set in modern times, so that the humour and jokes contained within the film can be more relatable to the audience. Contextual factors play a large role in the creation of comedy and one could argue that they are the foundations of comedy. For example, many of Shakespeare’s plays contained jokes or situational humour that a modern audience would not understand and therefore not enjoy as was intended; they would not decode the preferred reading that Shakespeare had in mind when writing the plays as humour and language have evolved over time.
Overall, my short film is quite conventional in most aspects. This is as I had limited opportunity to challenge what would normally be considered conventional, because of the fact that I chose to create a comedy. Although the setting (modern day, past, future) is more flexible in terms of changeability, almost everything else has to conform to preset conventions in order for the genre to work.

Reading Week Task
Our reading week task involved an initial insight into fashion film. We were asked to look at a number of films suggested by our tutor Karen to watch whilst also answering a number of questions that she had set. It provided an easy, non-complicated way to engage with the unit before accessing any tutorials or seminars to provide more details.
Below are the questions that were asked: 1. What fashion films you have seen that give you an insight into the designer/brand?
2. What are the advantages of using film as part of promotional and marketing activity?
3. What role would film play as part of a campaign, positioning, marketing, publicity? 4. The advantages and disadvantages of creating a film for a brand/designer?
Question 1 I looked at not only the fashion films that we had been encouraged to look at but I also found a few myself. I felt it provided a real insight to the fashion film industry and potential elements that I could incorporate or reproduce that I found successful. Click on title of film to view it.
Lucky Star by Alan Crocetti
This fashion film really engages with the product it is trying to sell. There are no distractions away from the product. All the model’s activity is centered around the product. I think the music plays a really important feature of this film, I think it gives a really contemporary vibe to the video and creates a scene that may not have been created without the choice and style of music. The cinematography and lighting complements well, it has this dark, mysterious ambiance to it. It just displays really well what the product they are trying to sell is, whilst also making it an attractive product. The styling of the shoot is well done, as the eyes are not drawn into the garments that are worn only the accessories.
Tourne de Transmission x River Island This fashion film focuses a lot more on the message and feel that the film delivers. Although features of the garment are enhanced such as zoomed shots of the boots or focused shots from the neck down highlight the garment, I feel the main striking element is the choice of location and scenery. I really liked the style of placing other videos over the location scenery in the background, it gave it a really contemporary feel. The simplicity in the choice of model, only having one made you focus solely on him, making it not confusing or cluttered. The continuous use of floating sheets added something unique and arty to the film, rather than just filming the plain scenery. The colouring and filter used gave a slightly cool mood to the film, making it feel edgy and modern. It takes a fairly common shooting location and makes it really interesting, well suited to the product.
"Rising Tensions" by Agi & Sam x the Woolmark Company Although quite a simple concept, of a model walking through a series of locations, the combination of the two videos filmed in conjunction make it an interesting film to watch. The choice of location has a contemporary vibe to it, a lot of fashion shoots and films are set in these run-down council estates feeling places, I think it makes the clothing really stand out. I think what I found really interesting as well as it almost displays the type of consumer of the product, where they would wear the garments to, what their daily activities are without having to do much, by just following the series of models around you get a feel for it yourself. The music really adds the contemporary feeling this film gives off and works well in time with the videos. What is also interesting is you find it difficult of which side to follow so you end up watching bits of each one, whatever takes your eye at that particular scene, whether perhaps it is busier, or the lighting is more capturing.  But I feel it is one of those films that you could watch many times and spot something new each time, which may draw a higher audience to watching it numerous of times. I don’t think it focuses solely on the product unlike Lucky Star, but it is clear what it is portraying, and the styling displays the clothing well. Sometimes over emphasis on the product can leave no questioning or real interest for the consumer as it is almost handed to them, how they should feel about the product. This defiantly has a more intelligent and artistic vibe to it.
Fear & Loafing by House of Holland This fashion film was quite long compared to the others I had looked at. I think the length of the film actually made me disengage with it quite easily. I would say for the first two minutes I was watching I was really interested in it, but I slowly lost interest. I think the choice of few cut scenes towards the middle half especially in scenes such as the car driving up the hill made it tiering to watch. Clearly this film is largely based around it’s location choice and adapts the model regarding the particular scenes. I think the clothing and product stand out really well against the scenery and make the product look really desirable, using a fairly androgynous model make you focus solely on the clothing. The combination of scenery and location shooting make the film interesting. The section at the end where the model is going crazy adds a slightly odd side of the film, perhaps something quite different. The pink hue tones throughout give it a consistent colour theme and make it coherent.
The Chair Man by Alexandra Kinga Fekete This fashion film takes quite a different approach. It stays in the same setting and location the whole time not moving the camera angle once. However, it remains really punchy and interesting. The colouring of the set works really well and lends itself to the garments displayed, all four outfits pop out from the wall colour, making it sell the product really well. I think the model used has a very charming alluring aesthetic to him which makes you not want to take your eyes of him. The constant and frequent cutting between shots makes the video almost dance to the beat of the music. It keeps it interesting and gripping. The movement and interaction the model has with the chair and books/ newspapers keeps him moving and working in different positions meaning although he is remaining in one solid place, he makes it interesting. The music works really well in relation to the vibe and the video style that the film is trying to produce. It gives a really retro vibe whilst also being contemporary and interesting.
Go Wild by Qiayi Hu The coherent and cohesive colours used in the film make it really capturing. A sense of retro pop art theme is felt due to the pop like bright colouring. I think the product of the garments are sold well and stand out well although remaining with the colour theme of the section either the blue, pink, green etc. I think it has quite a weird edge to it, although a fairly simple concept the way the model behaves and acts in relation to unusual props etc. makes it really different. The styling of the model is an element really in fitting with the rest of the desired look of the film. The upbeat, uplifting music style works well in relation to the film and plays a key part in working well with the transitions of the clips. The continuous switching between angles and shots makes it engage constantly for the viewer. I think the timing of this film is ideal, it is neither to short nor too long and keeps the viewer engaged throughout.
Fashion Film: "OOF" - Lee Minhyoeng This short and snappy film really sells the products well. The garments themselves are quite wacky, distinctive and unusual so the film is coherent with the product. The garments jump out at the viewer against the pastel pink background making it clear its desired purpose. The music works well in line with the quick transitions and movements of the model. The length of the film is quite short, but I feel it does it justice as you as the viewer are engaged the whole time. The styling of the model such as the strange hair style gives it that weird vibe. The use of the unusual props also achieves the slightly unusual vibe the film and garments give off. It has a really cohesive aesthetic that works really well in line with the product giving it a really desirable effect. I think it sells the products really effectively.
Girl On Fashion" ft. Kendall Jenner - A Fashion Film by Ben Toms This film has quite a creepy, quite unique vibe to it. However, it works really well. The editing and effects used throughout the short film make it feel so unique. I think it displays the garments well, as they are so bold and out there it is not difficult for them to stand out well. The variations in hair and makeup make using just the one model work really well and each scene is something different. Interaction with large props makes the scenes eye catching and add to the quirkiness of the film. Coherent colouring is used with a slightly dated effect, using blush pink and pale blues making it feel slightly retro. The interesting music and quick cuts between scenes give it a modern feel.
Monsters - Fashion Film The coherent colours used in this film is to what stands out to me the most. The fairly simple colour palette is used throughout, coherent across the garments, hair and makeup, backdrops and props used. The use of colour gives it a really clear and unique identity. It has quite a fun and poppy personality to the film. The choice of model expression and interaction gives it this fun and relaxed vibe. I think it sells the product well, without shoving it down your throat, simple angles zooming in on features combined with other features or activities draw you into the product well. The music is in keeping with the fun, upbeat feeling of the film. Again, there is something quite quirky and weird about the film but it keeps it interesting.
ARIES by Ben Sansbury and Fergus Purcell This film had quite a creepy vibe to it. The haunting music and weird displays of models edited in a way to make it look quite homemade and thrown together gives it its really unique vibe, something I had not seen before. I think it sells the product ok, but I don’t think this is the purpose of the film. It has a greater artistic and creative identity than to just sell the product. I think the style of the film gives it quite a space age style and contemporary stylish theme to it.  Its grungy style identity lends itself well to the products and the brand it is representing.
Le Picnic by Dom Jones x River Island This film began with a quite cutesy, idealistic vintage theme to it, and quickly became a quirky, original and independent identity for a film. It had quite a humorous vibe to it. I think the products are displayed in a interesting way, with the model interacting with them but in quite a distinctive way such as squashing the jewellery flies on her cupcake. The music works well in line with the film and the speed of transitions and cut scenes. There is something quite contrastingly grungy about the film in the middle section when the use of varied colours take over the screen as the model thrashes around. I think it has a really interesting narrative and quite an interesting story to the film which isn’t normally seen within these kind of fashion films.
Beautiful Ones by Helen Lawrence I think there is something quite nostalgic about this short film. It has quite a grungy, homemade stylized theme to it but that is what makes it quite relatable. It feels slightly retro and vintage but also modern, by use and choice of models, and the garments worn. It presents a really easy relatable theme of a group of young people going on a night out but does so in quite a beautiful way. The garments are displayed well and are obvious without making the film solely about the clothing. It presents characters of each model and gives a much more relatable feel than many fashion films. The colouring of the film is quite dark and dingy with coherent shades of purples, pinks and red hues given of from the club setting. The music works well and fits to quite a David Bowie style of theme.
Question 2 I think using film as a promotional and marketing activity could be seen to have many advantages. It is a universal means of advertising, pretty much everyone can relate to film, I feel all can be engaged by a successful film. Films can be displayed across a number of mediums such as the TV, social media, at showings, catwalks etc. Therefore there is a large opportunity for them to be viewed and therefore resulting in consumers perhaps showing larger interest into the products displayed. I feel they are more user interactive and user friendly, people engage with films better than perhaps written work of even photography as the catch the eyes of viewers and are easy to watch. Film can display quite a lot about a brands identity, personality and values, perhaps more than photos can do. Monetarily gain can also be a factor to why using film can be beneficial. Advertisement can make you a lot of money from videos such as on YouTube the non-skip advertisements make customers more likely to watch and engage with the video. Sharing videos can be largely cost effective such as through social media and other agencies you can advertise for pretty much next to nothing.
Question 3 Film could play a variety of roles dependent on the desired result of that film for that particular brand. It could act as the way that the product is advertised and displayed to the consumer, or the way the brand identity is displayed to the consumer, or even both. It can really help create a platform that can be displayed to a large consumer market to display whatever that brand wants to sell itself as, as well as its product. It can create such a larger scope for publicity and as a means of getting the brands name, image, identity and products out to a large audience. Through audio, visuals, themes, model choice, location, style a real image of a brand can be created. A lot of information about a product or brand can be displayed in a short space of time which is a crucial marketing strategy.
Question 4  Advantages: • Cost efficient way of marketing and displaying products out to a larger audience. • Easy way to display a lot of information about a brand/ designer in a short space of time. • Some fashion films can be really cheap to make- especially those with a homemade feel to them and can have the exact desired effects for half the price of high budget fashion films. • A really good way to portray a brands identity and message to an audience. • Shows creative identity and style. • Uses a different style of media to potentially boost sales which could work well in a campaign. • Suitable to a larger cliental as film is an easy way to display information for ‘lazy’ consumers. • In today’s modern media platform there is many cost efficient and easy ways to display fashion films for almost next to nothing. • They can help spark debates, opinions, likes and dislikes of consumer feedback and response.
