this is what healing looks like for her she shines so bright ever since she has let her vulnerability come through and allow herself to be protected by her trusted loved ones

its insane how many of one piece's quirks have insane plot twist reasons behind them. like no one expects there to be a reason why the world is made entirely out of islands, or why the technology is so strange.

these worldbuilding details are played off so casually that you don't think too much about them too much. why would you? one piece is such a weird series that you just adjust to it!

ive seen so many people joke about how one piece has robots and cloning but no cars and they have to use snails as telephones. the concept is so ridiculous that you don't think on it at all.

so when its revealed that this world used to be super technologically advanced before the world government's creation you lose ur fucking mind!!

and thats happening again now with the reveal that this world has been slowly mass flooding for centuries now!! this might happen more in the future so im gonna think myself into a hole over what other silly quirks could be lore important later

Absolutely obsessed with this color spread. Chopper as the pawns. Brook and Usopp as bishops. Franky and Jimbei as rooks (and doesn't this one fit particularly well?). Nami, bedecked in gold, as the queen. Sanji and Zoro as knights (of course). And Luffy as a king, because what else? Robin, the manipulative one, the planner, as the player who moves the pieces. The king is a fighting Piece.

Hello. I missed the raws of ch 1113 and I was wondering what were the exact words Vegapunk uses when he declares their world is sinking in the last panel.

I'm curious how literal those words are, and if there's a more metaphorical feeling behind them regarding the decline of their world.

it seems to be quite straightforward and literal! the line is この世界は海に沈む/kono sekai wa umi ni shizumu. kono sekai = this world; umi ni = in the ocean; shizumu = will sink.

it is interesting to me that the verb shizumu is conjugated here with the simple present/future tense, which means it's saying something that will happen, not something that has already started happening. if you wanted to say "this world is sinking into the ocean," for instance, you'd probably say shizundeiru instead.

Chapter 1113 Spoilers

Out of all the things I thought Vegapunk was going to say, this was not one of them. This completely took me by surprise.

But what is so interesting is that looking back over the series, the world sinking makes sense. This isn't just some left field no build up kinda reveal, there were hints. Water 7 slowly sinking with each Aqua Laguna, the destruction of Lulusia directly leading to the rise in ocean levels worldwide.

Hell, even aspects of the series that I thought I understood have been put into a new perspective. I had viewed the Red Line as symbolic in its extreme height. The Celestial Dragons look down on humanity and view themselves as god-like, so their residence is located at the highest point in the One Piece world. But now, I'm also thinking that the height of the Red Line is also due to the fact that the World Government knows that the world is sinking (and could very well be the cause of it) making its height practical in addition to being symbolic. (This is operating under the theory that the Red Line was artificially created).

Even just the nature of the islands has been put into question for me. Were they always islands, or were they at some point larger landmasses that sunk to the point of being islands?

God, Oda is so good at writing mysteries and recontextualizing information that even 25 years into the series he is STILL able to surprise his audience. I can't wait to see were this reveal goes.
