My Top 15 Vaporwave Horror Movies

I thought I would put together a list of vaporwave/dreamcore/liminal aesthetic horror movies that I find to feel outside of time and space. That's sort of my vibe here on tumblr, and I also like the mantra of "if there's something you want to see that no one has made yet, make it yourself." These are films that I personally love, and the list not meant to be definitive. Remember also that art is subjective. I hope someone out there finds at least one film they want to add to their watchlist! It's been a minute since I've seen some of them, so let me know if I need to correct something.

15. Mandy (2018)

I wish I could add pictures for all of these entries, but I can still only add 10 pictures to a post blah. It's such a shame because I wanted to show off that gorgeous aesthetics of all these films. Oh well. This is a revenge flick about a cult kidnapping Nick Cage's girlfriend and him losing his marbles about it. Definitely recommend if you're the mood for vibes and/or Nick Cage NickCageing.

14. Come True (2020)

This is a haunting, fantastic vibes movie. It feels so otherworldly. It's about a homeless young person participating in a sleep study to be able to safely get some sleep. It would be an almost perfect film if it weren't for the just garbage ending. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, just skip the last 5 minutes, and take it for what the rest of the film is: beautiful.

13. Braid (2018)

This film follows a couple of young drug dealers on the run from their supplier crashing at a mentally unwell friend's house. The catch is they have to play along with their host's unhinged "game" while they hide out. Not gonna lie, this film is trippy af and definitely not for everyone. I can guarantee that no matter what, it is a ride.

12. Perfect Blue (1997)

A pop star retires to become a full-time actor, which angers some of her fans. Her sense of reality becomes warped when one obsessive fan begins to stalk her. I don't love some of the turns this movie takes when it comes to mental health, but it's hard to deny this film is classic that has stunning animation.

11. Skinamarink (2022)

This controversial found footage movie is sort of hard to describe because it's so otherworldly. Basically, two kids wake up one night to find their dad and all of their doors and windows are missing. Everything about this nostalgic yet terrifying film is vibes and aesthetic: liminal, vaporwave, voidcore, dreamcore, you name it. It feels like a fever dream, and it's a nightmarish journey you won't soon forget, for better or worse.

10. Vivarium (2019)

A couple are looking for a home to share. They follow a strange realtor to an even stranger labyrinthine neighborhood that seems to have no escape. If you're into liminal spaces, this film will definitely scratch that itch for you.

9. Revenge (2017)

This is a r*pe revenge tale that has absolutely beautiful scenery and cinematography. I love the sweeping liminal landscapes and vibrant vaporwave colors. It's a standard plot as far as the genre goes, but it's directed by a woman, so it has a different angle that I find to be superior to most films of the genre.

8. Don't Worry Darling (2022)

A 1950s housewife begins to suspect that something about her utopian community is not what it seems. This film seems to be a bit controversial, too, for some reason. Whatever the case may be, I adore the liminality and dreamy feel of this film. You really get a sense that this world is outside of time and space.

7. It Follows (2014)

This film is straight up about a sexually transmitted curse. Jay sleeps with her boyfriend for the first time, and then finds out she must outpace this demon that can take the shape of anyone forever lest it kill her, or she must pass the curse on to someone else. The shots in this film are to die for. Especially for connoisseurs of the liminal, vaporwave, and dreamcore. Highly recommend for the visuals and music alone.

6. House (1977)

Gorgeous decides to stay with her aunt to hopefully get closer with a group of six of her friends. The girls come to find her aunt's house is more than meets the eye. The visuals and absurdity are what make this movie. It's a classic for a reason.

5. Akira (1988)

Tetsuo gains psychic abilities via a secret military project and becomes mad with power. It's up to his friends and a small group of psychics to stop him. This is another classic anime. Its 1980s futuristic mentality really lends itself to the vaporwave atmosphere of the cityscape. I highly recommend this classic if you haven't seen it.

4. Censor (2021)

Enid is a serious film censor with a shrouded past that includes her long-missing sister. She watches a film that bears eerie resemblance to her vague childhood memories that begin to take hold of her as tries to piece them together. I don't think I'm totally clear on when this film takes place, which is what I love about it. It has a spooky surreal quality that will both draw you in and unsettle you.

3. She Dies Tomorrow (2020)

Amy is convinced she is going to die tomorrow. Her friend Jane comes by to comfort her, and then becomes consumed by the thought she will die tomorrow as well. This film is as strange as it is beautiful. It will either leave you in tears or confused af or both.

2. The Neon Demon (2016)

Jesse is a very young, gifted model who is new in town (probably LA). She quickly signs with an agent and begins getting gigs, breeding the contempt of the established models around her. This is probably one of the most visually appealing films I've ever seen. The music is on point. The low key acting is a vibe. I just adore this film. 10/10, highly recommend.

1. The Platform (2019)

A man wakes up in a prison that is an indescribable liminal pit where there are a seemingly never-ending number of levels. A platform full of food is lowered through each level once a day, and everyone on the lower levels must fight to survive. This film is just so utterly anticapitalist and gorgeous that I can't help but sing its praises. I think everyone should watch this movie at least once. It is horrifying yet eye-opening. Certainly one of my favorite films of all time.

SKZ-TALKER. Jeongin is sitting on the floor eating, Chichi in a tracksuit enters the room.

"Not ready, as usual."

Chichi looks at him, adjusting the waistband of her pants.

"Because I'm always last." She giggled softly and sat down on the floor next to him.

"Did you eat?" Chichi shakes her head and immediately gets a plastic container of seafood soup in her hand. "I thought so."

SKZ-TALKER. Chichi records and points to Jeongin's small figure behind her - Jeongin has his makeup done. Chichi laughs softly. "Cute. Cute, cute... If you think he's small here, you're wrong, that's his natural height. Really! Smolinnie..."

During one of the interviews, Chichi, as a woman, was offered a blanket on her lap, but she of course refused. Jeongin sitting next to her took it instead of her and instead of on her lap, he wrapped it around her shoulders.

YFNChichi! Episode. Chichi reads the comments when Jeongin enters the room, he is barely visible but STAY have good eyes. Chichi turns off the sound when talking to him and stands up moments later before returning with a plastic box. She turns the sound back on.

"Mac and cheese! I mentioned today that I was craving it and here it is! Miracles really do happen." She laughs a little.

YFNChichi! Episode at the hotel. Chichi fixes her hair and reads the comments.

"Who's your roommate? Oh, it's I.N. It's always I.N. When we're asked who would like to share a room with whom, his quickest answer is me. He's really lovely and makes sure I eat right. I have a huge problem with that, but thanks to him I eat often and healthily. Also, we have a lot of things we would like to watch together, so during such stays we slowly make our watchlist complete!"

A short compilation of how Jeongin always waits for Chichi to see where she sits, only to sit next to her moments later. There are also a few moments in the compilation where the other members specifically leave room for him next to Chichi.

Episode of the variety show, Stray Kids are at the game center. Chichi tries to get a stuffed animal from the machine but fails miserably, so she gives up and joins Changbin and Felix in the food area. Meanwhile, Jeongin walks over to the same prize machine and, after struggling for a while, gets a stuffed cow.

Chichi later posts a picture with it on Bubble with the following description:

"You've been watching the XYZ Show, right?

I couldn't get Panchan (the name given to the stuffed animal), but I.N got it for me!

He has a really good heart and great skills... I wish I could play games like him someday.

I.N, thank you and greetings from Panchan from my bed! ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ"

Oh my gosh, thank you so much! Really... Stray Kids' choreographies are a bit complex right? When I'm in the process of creating them, I always call I.N for advice when I'm not sure. Then he comes around and tries to sing a part of the song by dancing my choreography, then I know if it's really too difficult or not and I know what to improve. I.N is really amazing, I can call in the middle of the night and he comes up tight and ready. Of course I try not to call too often!"

Rebecca Roanhorse's Tread of Angels novella. this is an urban magic old west religious fantasy novella. VERY sangfielle friendsatthetable vibes, there's an old west mining town centered around the body of the demon Abbadon, which is being mined for its powerful properties. demons and angels have sort of interbred throughout the human population. there is some deeply nerdy catholic bullshit and i say that as someone who was in catholic school for fifteen years. actually let's just take Roanhorse's explanation

the setting and premise are not where the novella bites off way more than it can chew. the main character, a cardsharp, has a chanteuse sister being held accused of a murder and she's got 48hrs to prove her innocence. the time limit and general structure is good, and it uses its side characters wisely, there's just a fuck of a lot of them.

in general, this novella does not have the emotional room to make its emotional beats really count. for example, there was a second breakup with an ex after a night of passion that mostly just left me confused. more broadly, the main character has an oldest sister's selfsacrificing nature that has twisted into utter ruthlessness with regards to her sister, and i'm both impressed Roanhorse managed to convey that in so few pages and annoyed bc i really wanted to see more of that in way more detail. due to the nature of it being a novella, the series of escalating decisions she takes feel very jagged in their escalation. i hope that makes sense.

it's got really interesting ideas! i want to know more about the ideas! i wish this was a full book instead of a novella, so the ending hits a little better instead of a Well That Just Happened way. from this interview it seems Roanhorse also wanted it to be a full book, but it was sort of a "i need something short and sweet so i don't go insane while adapting my other book for TV" (which is very exciting!!!)

really a bizarre set of films. extremely unemployed energy in this watchlist this week. largely composed of "what's on my letterboxed watchlist and also available for free on tubi, with brief forays into hulu"

Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons (2013, dir. Chow). loved the overall visual design of the antagonists and the monsters, did not overall love this movie. it is a solid martial arts showcase and the first twenty minutes with freshwater JAWS are the most tightly plotted. it kind of flounders (lol) after that. can't find a gif i like.

INU-OH (2021, dir. Yuasa) genuinely healed my heart a little i think. queer (complimentary, not queer in the western massachusetts housing coop way) feudal anime glam rock opera. i am sooooooo picky about bad dads in movies as a driving force but this really soothed my daddy issues. stuck the landing on both storytelling and visuals.

Barbarella (1968, dir. Vadim) WOW Jane Fonda was hot. this was both sillier and less porny than i was led to believe (if we ignore the softcore porn opening credits). however horny this movie was it was not brave enough to have some girl-on-girl action with barbarella and the evil empress, even though the evil empress never seems to actually learn her name and just calls her “pretty” or “pretty-pretty”. shoutout to the one fic on ao3 that rectifies this situation. certainly a piece of scifi history, i wish modern scifi was as brave with its theatrical set dressing, i think one viewing is good enough for me bc i cannot stop thinking about how all the women on set might have been treated.

john philip law popped up and i said out loud to my cat “hey i know him from cowboys”

Flower Drum Song (1961, dir. Koster) got conned into watching this by the hotvintagemen poll bc i wanted to see what james shigeta’s deal was, and if he did have a sort of ratpack sensibility as the propaganda described. he does! however this movie is unrelentingly awful. it is so so so slow. all of its comedy is racism-based. it feels like a three and a half hour two-VHS set instead of two hours. i like to think i have a stronger stomach for older media and am able to consider things as products of their times but this is my upper limit i think. one brief fleeting moment of cool production with this triple mirror effect

Dirty Dancing (1987, dir. Ardolino). we were trying to find something to watch on either peacock or hbo max, and when i said "oh i've never seen that" out loud my my best friend said "that's insane we're watching it". i did not hate this movie, but i feel like i missed some critical window of development in which i would have had to see this movie to really love it. i had sort of an abnormal high school experience and i am a smidge too old to relate to bildungsroman any more. but it was cute! it was fine! i think patrick swayze’s jawline could cut glass. this film was made after Roe v Wade (1973) and i feel like the backstreet abortion b-plot has done this interesting 180 from sort of a historical novelty to a real threat and terror again. fun!

im doing the thing where i play a game for ten minutes, put it down, and then pick it back up again, which is probably not terrific for the health of my elderly switch. but whatever. what have i been up to in breath of the wild?

not a ton of progress map-wise, but did make it up to zora’s domain.

i was planning on the camel being the first divine beast, to get that over with bc i had such a devil of a time in my last playthrough, but the thing about the desert is it’s really far away.

dicked around the dueling peaks stables for a while without managing to defeat that guardian and unlock that shrine. so it goes. i think i really need an actual guardian shield from one of the minor tests of strength shrines instead of a normie shield. this line and sidequest made me laugh— it wasn’t terribly hard to find this little cache but it was a tricky bit of gliding.

didn’t realize the horses don’t have that much vertical threat perception, just like real horses. this little band walked right under me and i failed to glide down and land perfectly on someone’s back, which did freak them all out.

i think my new favorite place in a game is this little grove clinging to the side of the dueling peaks. it felt very peaceful and cozy. nothing can get me up there and there’s more than enough room to make a little campfire and cook dinner and not roll off the mountain in a sleeping bag the middle of the night.

also fully kitted out my house bc i had a very successful mining expedition along dueling peaks. EXTREMELY forgiving and generous secondary opening area imo, thanks game

i started this glitch sampler pattern by tumblr's own mathysphere (not @'d bc this is a fuck of a long post) at the beginning of the pandemic, june 2020, while thinking "eh let's give this friends at the table counterweight thing a shot" got most of the way through both counterweight and this piece, put it down bc i was so annoyed with all the confetti stitches (random one-off stitches of colors that aren't anywhere near other stitches of the same color. i think i resorted to fraychek at several points in the rover square) and then put it down so long i had to throw it out during the great moth debacle, bc it was partly eaten.

here's what it will look like finished, and a link to buy the pattern

i think this time around i am a much better technical stitcher (the first crack at this i didn't know the loop method of starting, or pin stitches, or really any alternate endings except running the tail under the last few stitches). i usually stitch with three strands bc i like the look, but i think the loop method with three strands is overly fiddly. i have not picked up cross stitch since mmmm 2021, but any mistakes or unevenness in this will simply contribute to the glitch effect. i'm going to go back and backstitch the four "frames" and key portions of the sampler to highlight portions of the glitches (eg the yellow and blue centers of the spiral galaxy, the interior of the eclipse, perhaps add an antenna to the rover).

still not my tidiest back, but hey. it's going to sit in a frame and not have any sort of friction or extra force applied to it ever

i am really looking forward to framing this in a deep shadowbox, i have an idea about how to mat it with little melty cutouts for the drips at the bottom.

This show did an incredible job portraying two people who have different levels/intensities of desire for one another and I was *floored* when Ryuji responded to Amane's confession in episode 4 with so much care, thoughtfulness and respect for both Amane's desire and his own boundaries. "Please make it one sided for a while" will live in my head rent free for the foreseeable future.

And Amane and Ryuji's conversation at the beach in the finale was another heartfelt and expertly written moment. I deeply adore how Ryuji basically went "I miss you and want to meet you whenever I feel like it, and if that means being a lover, then so be it. Let's date".

So yeah, I'm in love with this highly articulate, fictional, Japanese teenage boy

Current WIP: Ohhhhh man, SO MANY. The most pressing one is a retrospective meta on the Only Friends finale, which I must release into the wild before people move on from the show

with all the submissions you got so far, were there any that made you curious about the source material?

Oh definitely. I've heard of 'Your Turn to Die' before, but the submissions I've gotten have just piqued my interest further.

Also 'Those Snow White Notes' has been on my watchlist for a while, and I found the Souichi Tanuma submission really compelling, so it's definitely rose in priority level.

I thought the Aesop Carl submission was very funny, so I'm curious about 'Identity V' now too.

Some other things that I already knew of, but hadn't seen/read, that intrigued me:

Currently reading: Um! Well, as far as actual books go, uh... 😅 Although, I did buy This is How We Lose the Time War (by recommendation of a certain Bigolas Dickolas XD) that I need to get to. And also Camp Damascus, haha.

Current fic: God, too many to count. 😰 But I am super duper looking forward to the conclusion of @eomma-jpeg's absolutely phenomenal Trigun fic, In the Meadow! :D (Last chapter comes out TOMORROW, I'M SO EXCITED!!!)

Also really wanna read @noaafishfieldguide's Trigun mermaid!AU fic, omg. Really need to get to that someday? As well as like a hundred other assorted Trigun fics, omg. XD

Currently watching: Uh... Well, I binged a whole bunch of really sad history videos about terrible things that happened last night. Does that count? 😅 Nah, but for reals, the only show I'm watching rn is the Rurouni Kenshin reboot? Haha, it's just that and rewatching Trigun and TriStamp over and over when I'm not on YouTube. XD

Next on my watchlist: FUCKIN CASTLEVANIA NOCTURNE, BOIS!!!!!!!! HOLY SHIT, I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THAT SHOW?!?!?!?! There are also a handful of movies I'm interested in, too, if I ever get around to them, omg. And, y'know... TriStamp season 2, whenever that will be, omg.

Current obsession: I'm sure y'all might have picked up on this by now, but I have fallen hard back into Trigun, omgggggggg. It's actually ridiculous how much this has no taken over my life. 😫 But besides that, my love of Genshin Impact has been rekindled with the update, so I'm like back on board with that, too? To a lesser degree, I'm also lowkey obsessing over FFXVI because that game was amazing and it seems like no one's talking about it for some reason, omg. And also hyped about whatever new pieces of FFVII Remake info is trickling down. Oh, and CASTLEVANIA NOCTURE OF COURSE, OHOHOHOHOHOHO! And, last but not least, there is always my lingering love of DBH there in my periphery. Ah, I will never fully leave that one I think. XD

idk if this was asked already but have you watched/read Red, White & Royal Blue? The movie surprised me bc it was actually well done. But consider this!!! son of the first american female president Desmond Miles meet-disasters prince Altair, second son of the british princess Maud and syrian dignitary(?) Umar. Malik is Altair's older brother bc he has the energy : D Connor is Desmond's cousin bc i love him. its difficult for Desmond as ppl expect him to live up to Altair's reputation as the prodigious but aloof prince or whatever. In the books Alex Clairemont-Diaz has a sister who pretends to date Prince Henry when rumors of their relationship was going around, Desmond needs a big sister we should give him a sister. Okay, so let’s set up the backstory for this one!

For this one, how about Desmond is the son of Jennifer Scott, the first American female president (sidebar: in this one, the Kenways have been in America for centuries so they’re an American family coming from ‘old money’).

This would make Ratonhnhaké:ton his cousin while Haytham suffers as the the little brother of the president XD

Of course, Edward is the best grandfather who may or may not be helping any shenanigans Desmond gets into. Ratonhnhaké:ton swears he’s there to keep an eye on his cousin but ends up helping him instead.

As for the Auditores… hhhhmmmm. Perhaps they’re Desmond’s cousins from his father’s side (William Auditore Scott being the youngest brother of Giovanni Auditore) and he grew up with them so they’re more like siblings than cousins?

To Altaïr’s side…

Altaïr would be the second son of the British Princess Maud after she remarried the Syrian dignitary Umar (and it was a huuuggee scandal) who already had two sons, Malik and Kadar. This means that Malik and Kadar would be older than Altaïr (with Kadar being a year older maybe?) and would be his half brothers.

Who were Maud’s first son?

Jacob Fyre who has an older twin, the crown princess Evie Frye.

That’s right! We’re making Altaïr have a complicated big family in this one!

Also, we can change up the whole ‘sister pretends to date the prince’ and have Evie pretend-date Desmond instead, doing it as a favor to Altaïr and also because she does care for her younger brother.

So, in this case, Altaïr is torn between two families, the royal family who are pushing so much expectations and duties to him which he’s able to meet and his father’s family who worries about him and thinks all that royal ‘power’ is getting in his head (they’re worried about his arrogance as well as this problem of his of believing he has to be the best at everything). His accomplishments are also driving a wedge between him and his older siblings, especially with Evie who is supposed to be the crown princess but is always compared to her younger half-brother while Jacob ignores it the way he always does (so yeah, Altaïr’s royal family is screwed up… oh, did I mention we’ll have Minerva as Maud’s mother and reigning queen to add more drama in the royal family? I didn’t? Well, now you know XD)

And then we have Desmond Scott, the charming oldest son of the president of the United State, who always act like everything is okay and he’s having a great time, even when he has heard and read all the comparisons being ‘whispered’ behind his back comparing him to Altaïr’s reputation, not knowing that Altaïr is annoyed by Desmond’s friendly ‘laziness’ (he gets along with Jacob sooo well it’s scary) and it took him a while to realize that he was actually jealous of Desmond because he makes it look like living with such powerful parents was… easy.

Enjoyable even.

And the more they spend time together, the more they realize that their jealousy was transforming into something much more deeper…

… and more dangerous.

(I know you wanted Desmond to get a big sister but I was thinking who we could add and it was either Layla or Lucy (or Rebecca or Bishop???) in my mind but it felt like that wouldn’t work for some reason so, instead, Altaïr gets the Frye twins as his older siblings XD Desmond instead gets to have two younger siblings. One of them is Arno, of course, because Arno deserves a happy childhood and maybe… Lucy? idk)

Weekend thoughts.

So I've had an album to help deal with anxiety for the past couple of years, and I think I now have an album to promote self-confidence and hype myself up before an event. Beyonce's Renaissance has been played regularly this semester (almost) straight through. It's great for a power walk to campus.

UGH okay so six months to the day after my last day of undergrad my school-supplied free HBO Max subscription was cruelly ripped from my grasp without warning. I knew it was coming eventually, and I've been working on clearing my watchlist for months. Unfortunately, their bet was totally on point. I immediately resubscribed. And best believe imma watch every CENT's worth (I watch a minimum of 1-2 Batman episodes a day these days, and when you consider the convenience, the cost isn't bad). So it seems that my streaming service hopping has begun, as it's neither necessary nor responsible to pay for several services that all have the same role. (I might let Max go over break to focus on reading and watching shows on my parents' accounts at home.)

My... ceramics-friend (a cohort member) invited me to a friendsgiving she was hosting (she knows a lot of people who live in the area), and it was not a bad time at all. I get nervous in situations (lol there could be a full stop right here) where I only know the host, but a couple of people I knew/was acquainted with showed up and that made things a bit better. I employed my usual strategy of "find a place to sit and then stay there" and that was good. I didn't stay to the end, but pretty close. I did meet some really cool people!! (Side note: I don't really drink bc I don't care for the taste, but we're now at the age where a goldenish drink is more likely to be gin with other flavors than apple juice and now I know that it is absolutely necessary to ask what something is before filling a glass (but best believe I finished my whole (tiny) glass like a big girl). I tell people that I'm a bit stunted due to covid but truthfully it's just because I'm pathetic boring uh uhh.. intensely introverted (still gotta mind how I talk about myself these days, even an unchecked joke could set my progress back)).

This summer I'd bought two pairs of Docs (one on a whim and then another that I'd wanted for years and years) because they were both ridiculously discounted. I'd broken in the impulse pair over the last several months (1461 patents, they're going to be my ~conference docs~ I think) then a week or so ago decided to start breaking in the other pair (1460 Nappa). Ngl, I thought they were a huge mistake at first. Tight, inflexible, tough to put on. My feet HURT. But. After a couple of days out (only a few hours at a time), they feel quite a bit better. Still months to go, I know, but I feel relieved.

Last thing: after having my third eye opened to the idea of building equity through a house and feeling intense rage against the idea of renting for the rest of my life (specifically if I choose to settle in one place), I've come to realize that this foreverrent thing touches more than just housing. I want to own my favorite albums now, my favorite movies, shows. I don't want my ability to consume my favorite media to be at the mercy of a streaming service. The most difficult part of that though (after figuring out the list of what I want to own and also paying for it over time) is figuring out where to store the hard copies. This might be a problem I spend more time working out this summer when there's less going on, but now that I'm ~radicalized~ I just wanted to state that it's on my radar. It's probably not reasonable to chip away at this while I'm in this apartment since it won't be my final place in grad school and I don't want to move more boxes than needed.

Today I'm thankful for.. uhm uhh OH I'm thankful that the clicking noises don't wake me up at night anymore.

I wonder how much of that half circle skirt I'll be able to complete at home over break [edit, four days later: none]. May have to hem during winter break.

Also the M9 reunion post-apogee was SO FUN k bye

A/N: I don't really like this one but I wanna get this out of my drafts. I wrote this while he was still in Dallas :(

You were never a selfish type of person. You'd always make sure others around you were doing great before you even thought of yourself, even then sometimes you forgot that you were responsible for taking care of yourself. In the case of your boyfriend getting hurt, that's selflessness was heightened.

After Jamie dislocated his shoulder in a game against Nashville your mother mode was immediately activated. The first few days you were the worst, treating him like a fragile baby every second, doubt it seemed a bit overbearing but Jamie slightly enjoyed it.

One of the things that he found highly unnecessary was your sleeping pattern. Since Jamie got hurt you would wait till he fell asleep before you even thought about getting sleep. It's been like this for 2 weeks already and no matter how many times Jamie said he would be okay if you went to sleep before him you wouldn't budge. Your body won't allow you to do that and it has become a regular routine now.

"You're ridiculous," Jamie said as he got ready to go to bed while you sat with a laptop on your lap preparing to binge a show for a few hours.

"That's your title babe, not mines." You spoke not even looking in his direction knowing he was rolling his eyes.

"Seriously, fall asleep with me, I wanna cuddle." He whined making you look over at the 6 foot 7 hockey player, it was interesting how he can go from 'big rig' to a big teddy bear.

"You can do a lot of cuddling with that shoulder huh." You teased knowing he can't cuddle the way he wants to.

"You suck." He pouted laying his head aggressively against the pillow like a child.

"Yes, you know I'm a pro at that." You said laughing before continuing to look at your watchlist for tonight.

A few days after that incident life became busy, you were working more and Jamie was working even harder with rehab since the doctor said he could be back training next week if he kept his progress up. With working more, it meant that you became more tired causing you to sleep earlier. You would sneak a few naps here and there when he was at rehab, but you were still in mother mode over Jamie's injury even though he was out of the sling and it was getting better. Practically back to normal.

"Yeah, she probably is waiting up for me," Jamie spoke on the phone to his mother who called to check up on the pair.

"She is so good, I'm so glad you're with her, but she needs to take care of herself also." Mama Oleksiak said to her son who couldn't agree more.

"Oh I tried, believe me. I will not try and argue about it again." He said chuckling at the memory of when he tried to argue with her the first time, let's just say he couldn't get a word in.

"Oh yes, you will not win an argument with her." His mother chuckled with him also.

"It is im-" He went on as he began to walk through the living room but stopped when he saw her sleeping with her work spread out through the table.

"Is everything okay?" His mother asked concerned at the sudden silence.

"She's sleeping." Jamie whispered.

"Really?!" His mother said in shock.

"Yeah, I'll call you tomorrow mom, I don't want to wake her up, I love you." Jamie said before saying goodbye to his mother.

He couldn't remember the last time she fell asleep this early and before him. It was unlike her to do that. She knows his rehab time and if she took a nap she was up before he got home, he knew that she would do that even if she tried to hide it. Quietly placing his stuff down he made his way over to her making sure not to make any noise. Cleaning up her area he was surprised that she didn't wake up from the noise, she was a light sleeper when she got into 'mother mode'.

Looking down at her he couldn't believe that he got so lucky, how did he get this lucky. Noticing she was moving in her sleep was an indication she was going to wake up soon making him move from his spot so he didn't look like a creep although this wasn't the first time he watched her sleep if he was being honest.

"My god." He heard her mumble making him chuckle.

"Holy shit, baby! I'm sorry I thought I'd be up by the time you got home." She said getting up a little too fast which made her dizzy.

"Slow down there, I don't know why you're apologizing. You took a nap because you're tired, people do that." He said sitting down and pulling her into his side as she immediately relaxed knowing it was his good shoulder.

"I know but I'm usually up before you get home, I don't know how I overslept."

"Look at me. You need to take care of yourself also. I may be the one with an injury but taking care of your health is just as important. I don't want to hear any arguments about it because you know it's true. I promise I'm okay, I got news today that I can start doing my regular workouts. I'm all good."

"You are so lucky I'm too tired to fight." She mumbled making him laugh as he placed a kiss on top of her head.

"So is there a way I can fall asleep cuddling you?" He asked making her chuckle at his 100th attempt the past week alone.

"You really are getting me in a vulnerable state. Smart man." She groggily said making the hockey player laugh while pulling her to their shared bedroom.

Anime fandom questions! Are you active in any fandoms at the moment? Do you write any fan fictions or do fanart?

Hello Anon!

Oh boy, this is an interesting question. I haven't really been super active in any fandoms apart from liking people's posts and chatting with friends casually about series. The last fandom I was super into was Yuri!!! On Ice, where I used to write fanfiction and RP. Also used to do the same with Ouran. When it comes to participating in fandom, all I can really do is analyze and write--cannot draw to save my life!

I also used to participate way more in fandom when I had more time (sorry to my followers for the dead dash!), but my the past few years my brain has turned to mush, and I've been broadening my entertainment horizons and not watching anime quite as consistently as I used to. Been maybe sticking with 2-3 ongoing series a season and trying to binge my watchlist when the mood strikes.

Right now, I've been mildly obsessed with Heaven Official's Blessing, which my friend had me read in its entirety. The second season or the anime just finished a couple weeks ago.

Spy X Family is another one that I am head over heels for, stay up to date with the manga, and am very excited for more anime. Blue Exorcist picked up again, and while I'm super excited this part in the manga is getting animated, I'm feeling this season is super fast paced (even the audio seems sped up to me), and it's not giving me as much life as the manga did during this arc.

As for the series I'm currently watching (and casually poking my toe in fandom for)...that would be Frieren, which is absolutely lovely, and I will probably wind up continuing with the manga when it is finished.

What are some series you’ve been wanting get into?

Oh, this is such an interesting question. Also, I am so sorry I'm late in answering this - work has been insane and a couple days have made me just too sad to do anything besides come home and sit and veg (we have an issue with theft in our town...a lot of cars and homes get broken into and we had a client get their methadone lockbox stolen, which is a huge deal because we can't just do a compassionate care extension for something so heavily restricted like that).

Anyway, to get around to answering the question - there's a lot of series I want to get into. I, of course, want to reread and rewatch all my fandoms because I've been a while in doing so for most of them. I've really been wanting to do a rewatch of Doctor Who again after hearing about a reader's rewatch, as well as Supernatural (still never did finish the final season). I have a bunch of series on my Crunchyroll watchlist but I need to finish Jujutsu Kaisen and Haikyuu, though I keep getting interrupted by other shows (rewatching Criminal Minds and Ronin Warriors as well), by writing, by reading (got a lot of new novels for Christmas) or by some crafting I'm working on. I'd love to not only rewatch the first season of Mob Psycho but finish the series and I'd like to reread/rewatch My Hero Academia and get caught up on that one. I hear really great things about Golden Kamuy and Demon Slayer both and they've been on my list for a while. I keep seeing a ton of Baldur's Gate posts but I don't have the system or money to play it so I kind of want to watch some people's playthrough's of that. I'm a sucker for being able to watch good playthroughs.

What about you, anon dear? Are there any series you've been really into? Any you want to check out or any you'd recommend checking out?

Honestly, it's never going to happen because, though tumblr is great in a lot of ways, it's not really great for interaction anymore, I've noticed...but honestly, I love doing watches of shows or such when I have people to do so with and I'd love to do monthly or bi-monthly, even quarter-yearly watches with my readers, where we can all watch something together and rant about it and talk about the shows.

oh lord my watchlist is quite long HAHAHA the fall of the house of usher is a recent add since it JUST came out, but i'm really excited to watch, i want to finish the west wing (i got to like season 5 and then i was graduating and then we moved and then i never picked it back up), AND i want to watch cowboy bebop at some point (i am among the heathens that has only seen the live action netflix but listen LISTEN john cho was there!!!!)

depends on how nice and the weather! i rotate between a shirt, tie, slacks outfit, a nice button up with a sweater over it and slacks outfit, and if its like ~casual nice~ i'll just do a button up and my nice jeans (i've been told this is very midwestern american of me)

this is a tough question, i really don't know! i think i tend to feel that more with people than places for a lot of really complex reasons that i won't get into on a tumblr post HAHAHA

Okay I'm trying to be chill about the fact my computers busted and I can't edit sooo here's my favorite horror films I watched in 2023!! So far, at least, I'll update if I find some more great ones in the next month. These are in no particular order.

Talk To Me (2023) LOVED IT. I was genuinely really really stressed while watching it. Honestly give me a character I like and put them through the ringer and I will be invested. I REALLY wanted Riley to make it. I know some people don't like the end but I did. It's a very existential and depressing ending but I thought it was fitting.

Sissy (2022) This is a super super underrated movie. Barely any discussion of it all online. I thought it was incredible; it perfectly nailed what it feels like to be in a social situation you know you don't belong in. I felt called out several times. Cecilia is a really fascinating character too, and I loved the social media aspect.

Creep 2 (2017) I couldn't believe how into this movie I was. It's basically just two really weird characters manipulating each other (with one being way way way more successful than the other) and it's so wild to watch. I liked the first Creep but the relationship here was so fascinating. I almost feel like this movie would have been better as a standalone bc we as the audience know that Aaron is a serial killer. It would be fascinating to be like Sara and not know for sure. Either way though, I loved it, I hope they make a third one.

Terrifier 2 (2022) Dude I LOVED this movie!! Controversial opinion maybe but I thought it was fantastic. Sienna is such an amazing character, Art the Clown was on his A game. I weirdly resonated with the family stuff (i got emotional at points) The special effects were great. I know it has a reputation. And it has earned that reputation. I have found no one I can comfortably show this movie to that I trust isn't going to be horribly traumatized. Which sucks bc when I saw this in theaters I got like. Sexually harassed. And I dont want it to happen when I see the third one. I wish I had a buddy I could take. But regardless every time I watch it I have a blast, and I really wanna make a video discussing this series soon bc I have so many thoughts!!

Halloween (1978) Yeah everyone was right this movie is awesome. I'm totally going to add it to my halloween watchlist every year.

Candyman (1993) Yeah again it's really really good, everyone was right lol. Really dragging my feet on the remake bc honestly this movie is basically perfect.

Cube (1997) I always thought I'd like Cube. And I did. It's really weird and psychological and cool. I watched it like 11 months ago so I don't feel like I have a lot to say right now, but I just remember how much I was invested while watching it and how much I gushed about it after I finished.

Deadstream (2022) Honestly this was most fun I had with a movie all year. I was dying laughing the entire time. I've watched it three times and I sent the opening scene to everyone I know. It's just a very funny and very spot on parody of YouTubers and I love it

Fresh (2022) I don't love the abrupt ending but the rest is basically perfect. The levels of performance during the dinner scene OH MY GOD. And it's a really fun and disturbing exploration of how terrible dating is and I appreciate that a lot.

Hereditary (2015) This movie hurt the entire time and I loved it. Toni Collette's performance is the best I have ever seen, I am actually furious she wasn't nominated. Her screams man, they are haunting. Also really realistic dream dialogue I pegged right away it was a dream bc that's exactly how people talk in my dreams. This is a movie with a lot of layers and something about it resonated with me, especially after the terrible terrible year I had.

Midsommar (2019) I vibed with this one hardcore. I think its just weirdly cathartic to see someone in a bad social situation get accepted while the person who put them in that situation gets rejected. Again because of the terrible year I had. But also its bad that that happens! Like its creepy how easy it is to be taken in by a cult. I also didn't feel the length at all I was very very invested the whole time. My friend Emily absolutely hates this movie though lol

Trick R Treat (2007): I didn't find it scary at all. But I vibed with it. It just FELT like Halloween, and some of the stories really really worked for me. Particularly the werewolf one and the one with the zombie kids.

VHS (2012): This is entirely because of the Amateur Night and 10/31/98 segments. I love those segments to death, I've watched them over and over. I still haven't watched Siren (the full length Amateur Night adaption) but I am so psyched they kept the same actress. She was an absolute star I'm planning on watching it entirely for her.

It Follows (2014) I know I can't keep saying I vibed with these movies but I did. I love the dreamlike quality, the ambiguity, the idea behind the monster is actually one of the most terrifying things I can imagine. Even if you get rid of it there's a chance it'll come back to you so you're never safe. Certain sequences were really really cool. Also one of the best jumpscares of all time in this. Like I don't even like jumpscares, they never get me, but this one did! Also I adore the opening sequence and how it's complete nonsense until you rewatch it and realize what's happening.

Infinity Pool (2023) I went in completely 100% blind. It was a wild ride that's for sure. I said "oh fuck me" full volume at one point if that tells you anything. Honestly I have nothing to say about the plot but the feelings this movie evoked in me were intense. Really good movie for someone who secretly hates themselves and is scared that everyone around them does too, I guess, because it captures that feeling perfectly.

#grace talks #Honorary mention goes to All Hallows Eve because those last thirty minutes are AMAZING. The rest of the movie is pretty eh though #VHS 2 and 94 are great too btw #I just like those two segments in VHS A LOT #Skinamarink was cool I just don't think I really ever want to watch it again tbh #horror movies
