GDT Hyperfixation Vibes :)
OK so what with the Pinocchio news/interviews coming out this is just a super friendly reminder that Del Toro has ALWAYS been this sincere, this earnest, and this anti-authoritarian!! Even his more lighthearted films, like the Hellboy movies and Pacific Rim, feature rebellious protagonists who aren’t rebellious just cause it’s fun and edgy, but because the systems holding them back are corrupt and not really meant to be trusted.
In the case of Hellboy, the BPRD did keep him safe and away from those who might want to hurt him, but they’re also having him hunt down those of his own kind. At the end of The Golden Army, he, Abe, and Liz straight up leave the organization – they’re polite about it, but they’re also firm: this is no way to live and work. Their monsterhood (i.e. their authenticity) cannot truly exist within the confines of an organization that hunts monsters.
Pacific Rim is a little different, Raleigh is naturally cocksure in a Han Solo type way, he’s a maverick, etc, but he and Mako both know that they’re drift compatible and yeah, that’s going against Pentecost’s wishes, but they stick to their guns because that’s how they know they’re going to win!! (Side note, I really appreciate Mako telling Raleigh that she doesn’t actually want to disobey her father, that she wants to be respectful of him, because he’s a reasonable authority figure who has her best interests at heart. PacRim definitely goes less on the “disobedience” theme and is more about teamwork, cooperation, community, etc, but Raleigh and Newt both have a stubborn streak, and when they trust their respective guts, things Happen. Risks are taken and they pay off.)
Nightmare Alley is also a bit of a variant here because it’s noir and Stan Carlisle is probably the most anti-heroic del Toro protagonist we’ve seen thus far, in keeping with the genre and is also true to the original novel. Stan’s disobedience (in doing “spook shows” when specifically told not to, for the sake of the audience) is not heroic, it’s all because he’s greedy and insecure and wants to see how high he can climb. Whereas other GDT characters have their disobedience shown as brave, Stan’s is decidedly dishonest and motivated by ego and it gets him in the end (capitalist commentary, perhaps?). Again, that’s all keeping in line with the genre and the OG source material, GDT’s take on Nightmare Alley is pretty damn accurate to the book.
All of this is to say – all his work has an anti-authority stance, even the more kid-friendly stuff. I’m really excited to see what his take on Pinocchio is going to look like, I miss the Devil’s Backbone/Pan’s Labyrinth/Shape of Water days of anti-fascist fairytales.

Og fallen angel grian anon here. Methinks you'd like Devil's Backbone by The Civil Wars as a Grian/Scar song <3
Oh, god. Oh god that hurts so much.
Oh Lord, Oh Lord, what do I do?
I've fallen for someone who's nothing like you
He's raised on the edge of the devil's backbone
Oh I just wanna take him home
God,,,, this really is a fallen Angel Grian song,,, but it’s so good as a song for them either way!! Grian seeing everything wrong with Scar— being there for every scam and every kill— and choosing to stay to the end.
Give me the burden, give me the blame
I'll shoulder the load, and I'll swallow the shame
Give me the burden, give me the blame
How many, how many Hail Marys is it gonna take?
Don't care if he's guilty, don't care if he's not
He's good and he's bad and he's all that I've got
Oh Lord, Oh Lord, I'm begging you please
Don't take that sinner from me
Oh don't take that sinner from me
Grian getting so attached and being willing to do anything to stay. Grian getting backstabbed and forgiving Scar so easily. God, this song is perfect in the cruelest way.
God,,, feel free to send more Grian & Scar song recs!! Loved doing this one :))

hdhshsd i have 4 songs from tmear in my top ten songs of the year and broken bones is number 1 with it being played 1211 times this year
That is pretty damn incredible, dear :)
I’m sure if I checked how much I played these songs, it would be ... a lot. Broken Bones is up there, yep. The songs I’ve likely abused the most would be the ones I consider the OG space cowboy inspiration, like Trouble and Bad Company ... and Short Change Heroes. *ponders* Hm, the ones I’ve played more in recent months are probably Graves, Blood on My Name and Devil’s Backbone, amongst a few others that are from the many recommendations I’ve been given :)
I’m so glad you could find some music to enjoy in this series of mine! A good chunk of them came from kind people telling me about songs that put space cowboys in their heads, too. My music rec tag has a lot of it, if you wanna see more :)
*hugs* Thank you so much for reading about these space cowboys, and jamming to the tunes that put them in my head :) *many more hugs*

I’m in a worldbuilding mood!
There’s a lot of places featured in Heaven’s Tiny Daggers, some of them real, some of them made up, and not all of them fully fleshed out yet. Here’s the full list:
*Lilith’s Collar: a small industrial town in Ohio, just on the edge of the Devil’s Backbone forest path. The girls of Heaven’s Tiny Daggers are from here!
Cleveland, Ohio: Where the fateful Crossroad Burials concert took place, where Grace set Aster on fire and kicked off the entire plot.
Warped Tour: The OG emo music festival, where Heaven’s Tiny Daggers get their big break and play alongside The Crossroad Burials, The Resurrectionists, and Cat Dammit! And the Dammit Dolls
*La Bellemort: A haunted mansion in New Orleans used as an elite retreat for new up and comers in the music industry. Heaven’s Tiny Daggers, Crossroad Burials, Resurrectionists, and Dammit Dolls stay here over the summer of 2006 to work on their latest albums, and gradually lose their minds...
Radio City Music Hall: Where the 2006 VMAs took place, and Heaven’s Tiny Daggers launch their first single from their third album. The Immortal Time Travellers and Helene Saturnine disrupt the awards show to give a warning of a conspiracy against the women in the music industry (and all hell breaks loose...)
The Hacienda: A notorious nightclub in Manchester, UK owned by Factory Records and New Order. Aster takes Grace here for her 15th birthday to see a local band in the 90s right before she signs her contract to start the Crossroad Burials.
CBGBs: A grotty bar in New York that launched many punk rock bands’ careers. In 1978, the Blitz Benefit was held to support Johnny Blitz (from the Dead Boys), who was stabbed in a knife fight. Grace and Aster’s father (a record exec) threatens a couple groupies here to stop ruining his bands’ reputation.
The Mudd Club: A New York club that held a Rock N Roll Funeral Ball in 1979 to honour legends lost, with a full procession to boot. Helene and Haigh get caught in a starcrossed affair here, with ramifications they’re still reeling from decades later...
*La Guerra: A time travelling parade float that gets Heaven’s Tiny Daggers and The Crossroad Burials out of some sticky situations. There have been sightings of La Guerra throughout the decades, helmed by The Immortal Time Travellers, often joined by various emo bands, who perform for one night only, and disappear once more. The float cannot be tracked, nor can it be caught, because it’s constantly on the move.
* = made up places for the novel.
Feel free to send me any questions!!!

LOVE NEVER DIES BY ALW, GIVE ME UR TAKES HOT OR OTHERWISE
vicky im so sorry, tumblr is a terrible website that ate this ask for a while BUT I AM HERE WITH MY LND TAKES, HOT OR OTHERWISE. THIS IS LONG IM SORRY!!!
Favourite Character: Meg! Her character development is so interesting and tragic, LND from her point of view is like a Shakespearean tragedy
Least Favourite Character: Gustave. please stop asking this nine year old boy to sing. i do not enjoy it.
Favourite OBC Cast Member: Sierra Boggess, a true sweetheart and killer soprano
Favourite Current Cast Member (If Applicable): N/A (I think? last i heard there was a north american tour but i’m not sure if it’s still running_)
Favourite Song: Dear Old Friend, but the rewritten version they used in the australian production that is Passive Aggressive to the Maximum. I love how cheery it sounds while everyone’s like :) Oh :) :) It’s You :) :) :)
Least Favourite Song: The Beauty Underneath. not a fan of the rock-style singing in tandem with gustave’s ultra-high harmony.
Favourite Act (If Applicable): Act II. the dramatic irony of knowing the phantom has stacked the game so that christine and raoul literally cannot win, and the reprises in Act II, both from Act I and from POTO, are Dummy Good (specifically i am thinking of the devil take the hindmost quartet and the reprise of twisted every way from phantom in the before the performance sequence)
Favourite Ship: i am a raoul apologist all the way through, raoul/christine until i die sorry
Least Favourite Ship: raoul and erik??? is a thing that i will Never understand. they’ve tried to kill each other multiple times but i’m sure somewhere out there is fic about them coparenting gustave.
If There is Something I Would Change about The Musical: HAUTE TAKE!!! love never dies actually has incredible potential and could be good!! the score is solid and the plot has a great backbone, but the execution is bad. i think it could be made better if (spoilers) christine didn’t die since she doesn’t have to face the music of her choosing the phantom over raoul; or meg dies instead because there isn’t a lot of closure there about her getting out from under the phantom’s thumb, and i feel like fatally shooting her best friend will have a big impact on her (already fragile) psyche. i also think it could be better if the ambiguity about gustave’s parentage was removed; in the novel The Phantom of Manhattan (which inspired LND), raoul was unable to have children for Reasons so both he and christine knew that gustave was not biologically his. i never felt like that was a big enough drive for him to gamble his entire life on the performance. i would’ve saddled him with old family debts and the responsibility of being the comte de chagny since his older brother passed away in the OG novel that would’ve pressured him to make bad decisions that resulted in him desperately needing money
Ratings: 7/10
leave a musical in my ask and i’ll reply!!

Hey :) What is your top 5 black rangers and why ?
Tumblr media
Tommy Oliver (Dinothunder)
Was never a fan of his red ranger days, so this was a great look for him. He made a good mentor and had some of his edge back.
Tumblr media
Adam Park ( MMPR)
He was an adorable cutie who could kick so much ass.
Tumblr media
Zack Taylor (MMPR)
How could you not adore Zack? He had charisma and was just a great ranger. The backbone of the OG team
Tumblr media
Dillon (RPM)
He just had that devil may care attitude but was more then that. He showed depth and was beyond badass. Dan Ewing did a phenomenal job.
Tumblr media
Chase Randall (Dinocharge)
Such a fun character in a season of fun characters.
