It’s always embarrassing when a character in a book is a writer and publishes a book that you’re told is incredibly well-written and a best-seller and you get a suspicious amount of fawning over how brilliant the character’s book is and how clever the title is and how glowing the reviews are, until you realise you’ve been ambushed by an insidious form of self-insert fanfiction in what looked like serious literature. I once read a book in which a character was writing a book whose plot was “structured like a cathedral” and I was like well that sounds nice, I wish I was reading that book instead. It’s fine to have a character who’s a successful writer but as a rule it’s not a good idea to frustrate your reader by making her feel like the book you wrote is inferior to the fictional book
#one of my least favourite books i read this year had a character that wrote a book with a title that was honestly not that clever#but the author (of the actual book) went on and on explaining how deep and subtle the hidden meaning of the title#of the imaginary book was#and you're like we get it and 2 chapters later the writer character is giving a radio interview to a journalist who#raves about how intelligent the book's title is and ugh

Dust's nightmare
Dust has nightmares about fighting and killing here and there, but the ones that really stick with him are the ones that are just... memories. Things he can never have again.
What he can have though, is a distraction when he wakes up to help him settle and make sure he's not alone with his thoughts for too long

Kinda wild to use the testimony of a known liar, jester and unreliable witness such as Mushroom to attack Aegon, when Mushroom also claimed that Daemon had Rhaenyra pleasure him when she was 8, a little girl. He also claimed to have advances with Rhaenyra himself. So if you use Mushroom’s testimony, bring up his whole story, be consistent :)

Over the past four decades, Minoru Nomata has developed a lexicon of imaginary architectonic and topographical forms to create paintings that transcend specifics of time and place. This book presents a grand overview of his visionary works, which combine the familiar with the mysterious and the heroic with the haunting. It is especially the forms of construction – structural beams, frameworks, tarpaulins, and netting – that are the hallmarks of these fantastical architectures. Notions of the picturesque and sublime combine in Nomata’s later paintings, where the structures seem increasingly fragile, with reduced material volume, greater height, or wrapped in tendril-like scaffolding.

it’s so depressing how online book influencers will encourage people to consume as fast as possible and listen to audiobooks on 2x speed and skim entire passages just to reach an insane reading target. at that point reading doesn’t become enjoyable anymore

you guys, lore-building is hard. writing and incorporating canon compliant plot when you wanna just lean into the romance so hard. send strength. I know why sjm chooses to have all of her FMCs trained/ mentored by their love interests, bc its fun as hell and provides so much easy relationship building and is lovely in its own way. but I cannot. And im giving it my all bc I have a dire need for Elain's story to evolve around her own journey equally in parts with her romance ... but good lord i need wine.
