HPB haul today
Thankfully, I didn't go nuts this time.... 😮💨 😅
Not like I could possibly need another copy of The Great Gatsby, but here we are; it's in the Chiltern collection. The bright-ass shiny pink thing is another journal by Flame Tree, quoting Pride and Prejudice. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is also a Flame Tree edition. I have an old copy of Dune, and I'm trying to find the rest of the series; here's book five. And I have some books by Carl Sagan but not any of his fiction; today I changed that.

I just fell asleep on the floor and had a dream that Daniel Thrasher was crabwalking in my living room while making direct eye contact and when I asked if he was ok he said "it's crab walking time" while backing himself down a set of stairs and out of sight

At this point, vines feel a lot more like chains.
Bdubs is used to it, horribly used to it. That feeling of thorns over his skin, wrapping tight as emotions take over.
Even now, years later, he still recognizes it. The scratching of old scars. Of poison ivy. A feeling of helplessness as something seemed to take over.
He looks to the tree over him, white and black branches seeming to swirl or droop in unhealthy ways. It makes his stomach churn.
But he needed a new tree and a new path, he needed something here and alive.
It stares down at him, those same words whispering through his ears. That he was simply a puppet, an item. Something to king others, not like a god but—
“Staring at the tree, again?” Gem asks quietly.
“You can hear it too, right?” Bdubs says in a murmured voice.
She looks at him, worry in her expression as her eyes drift back to the tree before them. It had gone silent, completely silent, only a hum of wind going through branches.
“Sometimes.” Slowly, the other dryad nods her head. “But I never hear what it says, just feel it.”
Bdubs fidgets with his cloak, stepping from one hoof to the other.
“What did you do to make it mad, Bdubs?” It’s not snarky, at least not as much as usual. Instead, her tone is painted in vibrant shades of worry for her friend.
“I gave it life and it saw my curse…” his voice fades into a whisper, “… so it made me theirs.”
There’s a whisper again, a smile on crooked teeth and gnarled bark.
“I need to burn it.”
Wind in leaves simply sounds like another form of cackling as he stares, but turns to Gem.
“Would you help me?”
She seems almost taken aback, blinking slowly as she tilts her head. “Would that even work?”
Bdubs sighs, shoulders heavy as he stares at Gem. “I’d give anything to live again.”

Definitely chose these based on rewatch-ability, rather than warm and fuzzy feelings. I know "The Cell" is -not- a happy film, but I really love the visuals. Kind of a given for anything by Tarsem, though "The Cell" is my fav.
"Pride and Prejudice" (2005) might qualify someday, but I haven't rewatched it enough yet to be a comfort.
"North & South" is def a "hopeless romantic" sort of comfort vibe. Like, bad day?, this is my comfort. I just adore rewatching for the subtle details in the characters' behavior.

Sept 29 - So. MUCH. Scanning. Lots of photos of early years of sister & BILs life together.
Made beef stewed with leeks, carrots, and potatoes as a way of using up some of the leeks leftover after making the tomato sauce.
Sept 30 - Finished scanning another storage box of photos. Nephew did pasta with some of the tomato sauce we made.
Oct 1 - Rescanned the 1905 cycling trip album at a better resolution. Started working my way through a shoebox of mostly photos with some misc stuff. Best finds: stack of Canadian Navy ship identification flash cards from probably WW2. Envelope with a stack of 99 small photos documenting a 1950s trip to BC when my BIL was a chubby cheeked tiny toddler, including photos of the prop plane and very nice train they travelled on at different parts of the trip.
Nephew did supper, it had spice rubbed roast turkey breast served over couscous mixed with roasted veggies, with a lemony yogurt and parsley sauce to top it with.
Oct 2 - Finished going through shoebox. Best find today was a photo of my BIL with 70s hair and sideburns. Also spent some time on rearranging and putting away some of the stuff spread out all over still from the nephew and I sorting through the boxes last month.
I made supper; there was ground lamb in the freezer the nephew asked me to find a use for so I mixed it with minced garlic, minced fresh rosemary, salt, pepper, and a little lemon juice, and formed it into patties to pan fry (I originally thought meatballs but patties were less work to make). Cooked some calrose rice in chicken stock with halved mini tomatoes and dried oregano. Braised sliced leeks in butter and more stock with minced garlic and finished if off with some cream.
That's three meals that have used leeks and there is still one last leek remaining to use up.
