I love Shoma's skating a lot, and I just rewatched Worlds 2022 Oboe for the 4898375834th time and... it hits me just how he has improved so much. What I love about him when I first saw him was how he never gave up on his performance, how he's still able to commit even though he made mistakes, and his skating can still make me feel. But when I watch Worlds 2022 Oboe... I realize that Shoma is now also someone who can skate a program to perfection. It was sublime.
Shoma definitely has improved and perfected his abilities, both technically and artistically.
I think in the past Shoma often was almost too much emotionally flowing with his performance that it lead to slips in concentration which then resulted into mistakes. With Oboe I think he finally found the calmness to do both, skate perfectly and perform emotionally too. Oboe was sublime, it was perfect. It was a masterpiece down to the fingertips. Shoma imo was always a superior performer but now he balances it with perfect skates and this is just such a leap of bounds.
And I think the program Oboe was exactly what Shoma needed - especially for himself - to trust his abilities and to find the confidence in his skating. A confident Shoma with this level of perfection can do anything and I am sure his future is bright.
Thank goodness for Oboe! Thank goodness for Shoma's skating! And thank you Shoma for your skating and never giving up! ❤️
I am looking ahead with excitement towards the next season!

Review of “Mozart/Strauss: Oboe Concertos.” Cristina Gomez Godoy, oboe; Daniel Barenboim, West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. Warner Classics 0190295077600
It’s true the oboe takes something of a backseat when it comes to being the featured instrument in a concerto, but there have been a surprising number of such concertos since the introduction of the oboe in the mid seventeenth century. Composers like Albinoni, Bach, Handel, Scarlatti, Telemann, Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Weber, R. Strauss, plus a perhaps surprising plethora of more-modern composers have all contributed to the genre. On the current disc, oboist Cristina Gomez Godoy, conductor Daniel Barenboim, and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra offer two popular examples of their kind, one from Mozart and a later one from Richard Strauss.
