Sketching some Na'vi. Saw Avatar 2 yesterday and it's so beautiful! I got the same feeling as the first time I saw it--awestruck by the tech and the nirvana like visuals. I definitely recommend it to be viewed twice, even thrice!

Watched Stranger by the Shore and it's the best thing ever!!
Tumblr media
My mind is still processing things, but the relationship between Shun and Mio is beautiful. I wish Mio's character is more explored since he's the protagonist as well but I love how they showed internalised homophobia in Shun.
This is my third time watching an anime movie (first Your Name, second Spirited Away), and tbh I found some parts of it hard to understand. It would've been less confusing if this was a series, and the characters would've been developed well, but I love how Shun and Mio's relationship was portrayed. Although Shun took an interest in him when Mio was 17, they were in a relationship when Mio was 20, hence he was a full-grown adult. Their age gap was 7 years, and I wish it was much closer, as a review of it said. But the chemistry between the two main characters was a chef's kiss and I love how their relationship progressed. Their relationship wasn't creepy at all, thankfully.
Tumblr media
The sex scene was my favorite. It wasn't even remotely sexual, as it explores the feelings the characters have for each other, with Shun's mental state being explored. It isn't your typical sex scene used to fetishize their relationship, but it digs deeper into their characters and it is emotional (the KinnPorsche bathroom scene in episode 7 made me realize my preference for emotional sex scenes). When they cuddle after having sex, which wasn't so great, then zooming in to Shun crying as he cuddles Mio made me cry as well.
In this case, gay people were shown to be humans. Their sexuality didn't define them. I liked that Shun and Mio weren't the only same-sex couple since there was a happy lesbian couple too.
Tumblr media
Looks like I need to watch the movie again to understand it better because my thoughts aren't clear atm, but this movie was successful in making me cry. I liked Mio and I wish his character was explored as someone who was recovering from grief, but I think the makers focussed more on Shun and there was not enough time to cover Mio's side of the story. Might make another blog on this move (will write a more detailed review on WordPress), but thanks for reading (for those who stumbled through this.)

Finished watching Once Upon A Crime and it was gorgeous! I highly recommend it for the comedy, character design, costuming, hair, makeup, and mystery. If you like fairytales, twists, and sitcom like comedy, this might be the one for you.
Can’t say I agree with the ending bc I would argue for self defense and who deserves what but it’s cute. Very original and I love fairytales having a spin! 😆 Bless the witches. Iconic laughter 🤭

A long, long time ago, there was a Demon-Woman. She lived on trees. She had feet that were twisted all the way around. That blood-thirsty Demon waited...

Happy Queer Media Monday!
Today: The Blue Caftan (2022)
A very recent movie, so if you are lucky, you might still catch it in a cinema. (Time stamp: March 2023)
Tumblr media
(From left to right: Youssef, Mina and Halim, eating together.)
The Blue Caftan is telling the story of a married couple who run a traditional tailor shop in Morocco. The husband, Halim, is gay. At the beginning of the movie, he starts to make a blue caftan for a rich client. Over the time it takes for him to finish, we get to watch the developing feelings between him and his young apprentice, Youssef, as well as the progression of the wife’s, Mina’s, terminal breast cancer.
While the summary does sound a little bleak, this movie is so full of love and tenderness, it seriously softens the pain to something beautiful. While it is made very clear through the acting that Halim is not sexually attracted to his wife, his and Mina’s relationship is very deep and loving. Mina does show some animosity towards Youssef at the beginning, but as her illness progresses, she comes to accept and even appreciate him, so it really is three people who care deeply about one another up against Life. There is also a lot of nonsexual intimacy going on, mostly between Halim and Mina, but also between Halim and Youssef. All in all, it is a very soft, tender movie, that still deals with some very heavy topics.
The Blue Caftan premiered 2022 in Cannes, won multiple prizes at film festivals, and is Morocco’s official submission at the 2023 Oscars shortlist in the "International Feature Film" category.
I can’t really link much about it, but here is the IMBD page.
Queer Media Monday is an action I started to talk about some important and/or interesting parts of our queer heritage, that people, especially young people who are only just beginning to discover the wealth of stories out there, should be aware of. Please feel free to join in on the fun and make your own posts about things you personally find important!

“That was the challenge, to create this final chapter [”No Time to Die”]. The key to it really was in bringing Léa Seydoux [Dr. Madeleine Swann] back. This woman is such an incredible actress. She is so truthful, and so real. That’s what made the relationship between them [Swann and Bond] really work, that you really believe this woman. And it’s so moving, her whole portrayal of this character. From the moment she’s in the car and she says ‘I have something to tell you’. And Daniel [Craig] is in his mindset and he shuts her up, ‘I bet you do’. To the last few moments, which are just heartbreaking, when she says ‘But everything’s good now.’ I really think that Léa was so key to making the emotional stakes of this movie so high...was brilliant in creating the opening of this movie when you realize that you’re seeing the backstory of the woman who is the most important woman in the Bond series.”
- James Bond series producer Barbara Broccoli on Léa Seydoux in No Time to Die
