avid historical fashion enthusiast here to remind you that corsets and stays were not created as ancient methods of torture.

sure, i am not going to deny that some women did tightlace their corsets — however, not everyone was struggling to breathe and fainting everywhere like fucking goats. part of a corset’s purpose was aesthetic and fashion, but it was also for support. most women still lived their lives, they weren’t just lying around being damsels in distress with itty bitty waists and zero lung capacity.

i just think it’s scary how hollywood has popularized the misconception that corsets are made to be tightlaced — for example, if someone who isn't well educated about historical fashions buys a corset for a costume, they might think it’s normal if they can’t breathe, and that’s dangerous. i cannot emphasize that enough.

when i was performing in a production of beauty and the beast earlier this year, some of the girls — my friends — were tightening their corsets to seriously dangerous extents, and that fucking scared me. i felt like a broken record telling them to loosen their corsets, but all they knew was pirates of the caribbean (that one scene pisses me off sO BAD) and bridgerton (i am NOT gonna start on the corset tightening scene in bridgerton s1, i do not need to get on that soap box).

i get burnout (especially with the pandemic) but i still don't get why they had to rush through to finish the campaign. i mean in c1 *spoilers* you had scanlan leave the group due to CHARACTER reasons, they replaced him briefly with a new character, then scanlan came back and they dealt with that emotional fallout all within 20ish eps of the finale. so if they were willing to derail the story because character motivations were a priority, why did they fuck over their own storylines this time?

there really is no logical reason to absolutely derail whatever story they were attempting to tell pre-hiatus and just throw it out the window post hiatus lmao.

like... i totally get being burnt out too! i just wish they'd been more transparent with it tbh! a simple "hey this story is wearing us down. we are not interested in this anymore and its been an exhausting ordeal so we just want to get it over with" would've been FINE going into c2 post hiatus! and the fact that all of it was possible w/o compromising the entirity of what pre-hiatus had set up... like. b moving on from j even, b/y actually being a relationship built on substance not sex jokes. f/j built on understanding and equal give and take not j being all 'i told f i love him but he wont say it back what does it mean? :(" and f making jokes like oo "j's a handful that wife o'mine" w vandren stupid misogynistic shit he completely regressed back into lmao. and i could've remedied the white liberal ending myself and fixed s/g in one fell swoop since the whole cast is full of cowards and in less than 7hrs too. they really dropped the ball w c2 big time its so embarassing to look at lmao
